Kremlin says Boris Johnson’s claim about Putin missile strike threat “is a lie”

Battles are underway in the south and east of Ukraine as authorities report more casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure on Monday.

Donetsk region

Donetsk region continues to see some of the heaviest fighting. On Monday, the Ukrainian military said that Russian forces are trying to advance toward Lyman, Bakhmut and Avdiivka.

At least one person was killed in the city of Krasnohorivka, said Pavlo Kyrylenko, the head of the Donetsk region military administration.

Kherson region

Russian forces have fired 42 times in the region in the last 24 hours, the regional military administration said Monday. “The enemy attacked civilian settlements of the region with artillery, MLRS, mortars, tanks, and infantry fighting vehicles,” it said.

At least three people were killed by Russian shelling in the city of Kherson on Sunday and eight civilians sustained injuries of varying severity, the regional military administration said.

Kharkiv region

At least one person was killed and three wounded in the city of Kharkiv on Sunday, said Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv region military administration.

Preliminary investigations suggest the missile was fired from an S-300 air defense system, he said.

“The missile hit a 4-story residential building in the Kyivsky district,” said Syniehubov. “The upper floors and roof of the building were destroyed, and a large-scale fire broke out.”

Kupiansk, Vovchansk, Strilecha, Dvorichna and other towns came under enemy fire, added Syniehubov, with private houses, shops and other buildings damaged.

In Kupiansk, a 41-year-old man was wounded as a result of enemy shelling, he said.

Zaporizhzhia region

The situation remains relatively stable as Russian forces are concentrating on holding occupied territories in the region, the Zaporizhzhia region military administration said Monday.

Russian shelling damaged residential houses and buildings in various parts of the region, the regional police said.

Strength Training for Women: 3 Reasons Dakota Johnson’s Trainer Recommends It

  • Strength training has myriad benefits and is important for women.
  • Celebrity trainer Luke Worthington shared three of the biggest ones with Insider.
  • Resistance training can be empowering, help with fat loss, and reduce osteoporosis risk.

Strength training is hugely beneficial for people of any age, but historically it’s been seen as the reserve of men.

Data suggests that’s gradually changing, with more and more women trying resistance training for both the mental and physical health benefits.

UK-based personal trainer Luke Worthington is a vocal advocate for women lifting weights, having trained high profile women including Dakota Johnson, Winnie Harlow, Jodie Comer, and Naomi Campbell.

Luke Worthington is a personal trainer based in London.

Luke Worthington

The qualified sports scientist, nutritionist, and strength and conditioning specialist has over 20 years’ experience in the health and fitness industry, and on January 9 launches a strength training app called 3×52. It’s designed with women in mind and based on his unique “3 x 52” philosophy.

Worthington told Insider about 85% of his clients over the last 10 years have been women, and they’ve all responded to strength training “very quickly and have found it very empowering.”

“It’s not that cardio isn’t worth it,” personal trainer Anna Victoria added. “Cardio has an important place in a balanced training routine, especially when it comes to our overall health, but there are benefits unique to strength training from which women especially could vastly improve their results and quality of life.”

A post shared by Anna Victoria (@annavictoria)

If you’re still on the fence about adding resistance to your workouts — be that with a barbell, dumbbells, kettlebells, or your bodyweight alone — Worthington shared some of the main reasons women should strength train, from reducing osteoporosis risk to fat loss.

1. Being strong makes daily tasks easier

Simply being stronger makes life easier, Worthington said.

When you are stronger, everyday tasks become easier, be it carrying a suitcase up a flight of stairs, picking up a child, or moving house, both experts said.

“The transfer over to the everyday tasks, being able to do things you couldn’t before, and feeling more empowered in that is key,” Worthington said.

Strength will also make all other activities easier, be it running, tennis, or ballet, and will reduce the injury risk from anything else you might do, Worthington said.

Consistent weight lifting can help people feel strong and capable both in the gym and outside it, Victoria said.

As well as boosted confidence, strength training can improve mental health. A May 2018 study in JAMA Psychiatry, for example, found that weight lifting reduced the frequency and severity of depressive symptoms and anxiety.

2. Resistance training strengthens bones

Strength training can improve bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis, which is particularly important as you age and particularly for women who start losing more bone earlier than men, according to research.

Because of this, women are four times more likely than men to have osteoporosis and twice as likely to fracture a bone as they get older, according to a July 2011 study in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.

“When you contract and extend a muscle while lifting weights, it places stress on the tendons that connect it to the bone,” Victoria said. “The bone responds to this tension by getting stronger. And increasing the load over time only makes them stronger (just like muscles), this is called Wolff’s Law.”

Not only can strength training delay the onset of osteoporosis but it can also reverse it, and it’s never too late to start, Worthington said.

He trains a 62-year-old woman who is actually healing holes in her pelvis, and this has been directly attributed to regular strength work. “She’s stronger than she’s ever been,” Worthington said.

3. Strength training helps create a lean, ‘toned’ physique

The concept of toning muscles in a myth, but creating the look many people describe as “toned” means building some muscle and having low enough body fat to see it, and strength training is essential for this.

If you have already built muscle, strength training can help you maintain it, while losing fat by eating in a calorie deficit can reveal muscle definition. If you haven’t built muscle yet, strength training — while eating enough — is the way to do that, Worthington said.

Strength training to build muscle can also help change your body composition, or muscle to fat ratio, by raising your resting metabolic rate, meaning you burn more calories at rest, which helps you lose fat, Victoria said. A June 2015 study in the Journal of Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport found that resistance training boosted participants’ resting metabolic rate after exercise, when compared to steady-state cardio.

If you are in a calorie deficit to lose weight but don’t do any resistance training, you will lose both muscle and fat, meaning that although you may get smaller, you are likely to have what’s known as a “skinny fat” physique, Worthington said. To keep the muscle you need to repeatedly use it by strength training, he said.

“While cardio can also help reduce body fat, if you’re comparing them minute-for-minute, resistance training has a greater effect on age-related abdominal fat than cardio does,” Victoria said, citing a December 2014 study in the journal Obesity.

19-year-old Khorry Ramey too you to witness Kevin Johnson’s execution: Judge

A 19-year-old woman is too young to witness the state of Missouri execute her father, who was sentenced to death for killing a police officer when he was a teen, a federal judge ruled.

Khorry Ramey requested to be present for Kevin Johnson’s final moments, but US District Judge Brian Wimes said in a ruling that execution witnesses need to be at least 21 years old, NBC News reported.

Missouri and Nevada are the only states that require witnesses to be 21, Ramey’s attorneys argued.

“I’m heartbroken that I won’t be able to be with my dad in his last moments,” Ramey said in a statement, adding that he “has worked very hard to rehabilitate himself in prison. I pray that [Gov. Mike] Parson will give my dad clemency.”

Johnson, now 37, is scheduled to die by lethal injection Nov. 29 for the 2005 killing of Kirkwood Police Officer William McEntee, a crime he committed when he was 19 and Ramey was 2.

He selected his daughter as one of the five people permitted to witness his death, but the Missouri Department of Corrections rejected the request, a move the ACLU argued violates both the First and Fourteenth amendments.

“Missouri executes people, like Mr. Johnson, for crimes committed as adults but before their 21st birthday illustrates the irrationality of the statute’s requirement that execution witnesses not only be adults but also at least 21 years old,” the filing states.

Missing her father’s execution will cause Ramey “irreparable harm,” her attorneys said.

In a court declaration earlier this week, Ramey called Johnson “the most important person in my life.”

Ramey and Johnson have a very close relationship and he is her only living parent, the ACLU said. She witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of an ex-boyfriend when she was just 4 years old.

With the execution date looming, Johnson’s attorneys are filing appeals to save his life. They admit Johnson’s guilt, but argue that a history of mental illness and argue his age at the time of the crime should warrant court intervention. They also claim racism played a role in his death penalty sentencing — Johnson is black and McEntee was white.

McEntee arrived at Johnson’s home in 2005 to serve an arrest warrant to Johnson, who police believed violated the probation he was on for assaulting his girlfriend.

When McEntee showed up at the house, Johnson’s younger brother, Joseph “Bam Bam” Long, 12, ran next door to their grandmother’s house, where he collapsed and began having a seizure.

Johnson testified that McEntee kept the boys’ mother from going into the house to help the seizing boy. Joseph later died at a hospital.

Upon seeing McEntee in the neighborhood later that evening, Johnson approached the officer and shot him twice.

“The surviving victims of Johnson’s crimes have waited long enough for justice, and every day longer that they must wait is a day they are denied the chance to finally make peace with their loss,” stated a state petition filed last week by the Missouri Attorney General’s Office to the Supreme Court.

More details on UFC vet Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson’s illness, cause of death

The MMA community was left in mourning on Sunday after the death of former UFC title challenger Anthony Johnson came to light. Many of his contemporaries, whether it was former rivals or teammates, shared their well-wishes for the late “Rumble.”

What wasn’t immediately revealed was the cause of his death. All everyone knew was that the 38-year-old had been dealing with a serious medical condition in 2021. Recently, his manager Ali Abdelaziz asked for prayers because Johnson was “not doing well.”

But as Yahoo! Sports revealed in a recent report, Johnson died due to organ failure from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, a rare immune disorder.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is usually a treatable form of cancer with a survival rate of 73%. It is one of the more common kinds of cancer (4%), although its incidence and mortality rates are “strongly related to age” and more frequently seen on people over the age of 65.

Former training partner and ex-champion Kamaru Usman also spoke with Yahoo! and revealed that Johnson was undergoing dialysis during one of their last encounters a few months back.

“You know, it was a little like [the late actor] Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick kept his issue private and we were all so shocked and surprised [when he died in 2020]. Rumble would give you these nonchalant stories, and he was having dialysis on his kidneys but he never really told you fully what was going on.

“He didn’t want to be treated differently. He didn’t want people to see him losing all this weight and going through these situations and treating him differently because of what was going on. He was such an incredible athlete.

“He had the feet of a welterweight and the power of a heavyweight and he was able to transfer that throughout his career. He was truly special and gifted and he didn’t really have to try hard. He felt he was working hard, but there were levels he didn’t go to, maybe didn’t want to go to.

“He was natural. I admired that so much. He made it look easy. He’d hit a guy and the guy would just crumble. I mean, I worked so hard and put this time in and I’d wind up and hit this guy with everything and he’d be standing there. Rumble was a different caliber than the rest of us.”

Johnson (23-6) last saw action at Bellator 258 in May 2021 against José Augusto Azevedo, whom he knocked out in round two.

How much has Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam collected at the box office so far?

Since its release, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has been electrifying audiences like the man himself. It has helped the DCEU take a giant step forward and establish the universe in a solid fashion.

Johnson stars as the titular anti-hero, whose brand of justice is very different from the conventional one the DC heroes follow. His story and subsequent clash with the good guys make up the film, with audiences flocking in large numbers to see how the plot unfolds.

At the time of writing, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has been running in movie theaters for two weeks. Box office earnings have been solid, with the film earning $256 million worldwide.

This number will surely increase in the coming days and put a smile on the WWE legend’s face.

Dwayne Johnson’s thoughts on Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson has been linked with the Black Adam character since 2014. Initially, he was supposed to star as the villain alongside the hero Shazam. However, the producers gave Adam his own movie first before he mixed it up with Billy Batson.

Johnson had previously stated that Black Adam would usher in a new era in the DC Universe. He explained what he meant by that, revealing that the film was made with the sole intention of giving fans something exciting to watch.

“I have been saying for some time, there’s a new era in the DC Universe that’s about to begin. What I really meant by, ‘This is a new era in the DC Universe,’ is listening to the fans. And doing our best to give the fans what they want. I’ve been waiting for someone to step up and address the fans and say, ‘Hey, we hear you,’” Johnson added. “So finally, after many months turned into many years, we ended up with what we ended up at. And the whole goal and intention now is to this new era, new time. Now let’s build out.” [H/T CinemaBlend]

This phenomenal 90% AUDIENCE SCORE for #BlackAdam is so gratifying for so many reasons.15 yearsTHANK YOU for all so much for all the love and support 🙏🏾🌎🖤In the end, the only thing that matters to me is sending the people home happy. And that’s what I’ll always fight for.⚡️ https://t.co/3fm0GrVSQU

The movie was released on October 21, 2022, in the United States and a day earlier in some other countries. It grossed $117.2 million in the United States and Canada and $139.3 million in other territories, bringing its worldwide total to $256.5 million.

Black Adam beat out Shazam! in opening day earnings, grossing $26.7 million compared to the latter’s $20.4 million. The film became the highest opening weekend earner of Dwayne Johnson’s career, earning $67 million and making it the fifth-highest October opening weekend ever for a movie.

It is another feather in The Rock’s cap – one that he will cherish as much as his first WWE Championship win.
