Taron Egerton Hopes He’ll Get to Play Wolverine in the MCU

Ever since Fox got themselves snatched up Disney and Kevin Feige made it clear that the mutants would be making their way to the MCU eventually, there’s been no shortage of speculation about who’ll be playing the new batch of X-Men. Moreso than Professor X or Magneto, Wolverine is the one that everyone’s got some opinion on. These days, we now know there’s nothing stopping Hugh Jackman from coming back to the role (and the frankly absurd diet needed to maintain it) that launched him into cinematic stardom. But there’s been no shortage of folks who want someone new to take the reigns, and one actor is now specifically making their desires clear rather than simply dancing around the subject and hoping to be John Krasinski’d into an eventual film.

Specifically, it’s Taron Egerton of Kingsman and Rocketman fame (or more importantly, Moomintroll) who wants to get in on the comic book action. He said as such to the New York Times; while promoting his upcoming Apple TV+ show Black Bird, Egerton admitted that he has spoken with Marvel Studios employees, including Kevin Feige, about getting involved in the superhero game. While it’s something he’s hoping to take a shot at, he also knows that there’s some big shoes to fill, regardless of whoever eventually plays the character. “I’d be excited, but I’d be apprehensive as well,” he said. “Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.” Back in 2019, the actor talked about being aware of fans wanting him in the role, and was flattered that they were rooting for him.

Talking with Feige raises the chances of Egerton getting a shot to play Wolverine just slightly, but it’s equally possible that Feige and crew have someone else in mind for him to play. Since Marvel has just so much stuff in various stages of production, we won’t really know what Egerton’s future is until we know. Maybe he’ll wind up being Wolverine, mayhaps he’ll get locked in for Human Torch or Nova. (Maybe he’d be a good Cyclops?) Either way, it’s doubtful that he won’t wind up playing a superhero eventually, since basically everyone does…it’s just a matter of whom it’ll be.

Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness leak seems to confirm John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic

Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness’ leak seems to confirm that The Office star John Krasinski will play Mr Fantastic

John Krasinski has come a long way from a paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The actor, 42, seems to be playing a big role in the upcoming Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness movie, opening Friday.

A leaked scene from the film seemed to confirm that Krasinski will play Mr. Fantastic, the iconic elastic character and leader of the Fantastic 4 from the Marvel comic books.

In one of the stills released, Krasinski stood in the forefront of an image while several other Marvel characters backed him up.

He wore a blue and black latex suit, the character’s iconic look, with a big ‘4’ directly in the middle of his chest.

His light brown hair was combed over and he had a large bushy beard covering his face.

TMZ reported that the characters in the background are Captain Marvel, though not the Brie Larson version of the character, Captain Carter and Black Bolt.

Legendary actor Patrick Stewart will reportedly reprise his role as Charles Xavier from the X-Men franchise for the movie.

The film, set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Dr. Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, after he uses a forbidden spell to walk into alternate universes.

However, a threat emerges that will force Strange and his trusty ally Wong (Benedict Wong) to seek out the help of the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

Screen test: Years ago, the husband of Emily Blunt auditioned to play Captain America and got as far as a screen test before the role went to Chris Evans (pictured here 2015)

Fans have thought Krasinski would play a great Mr. Fantastic for a long time with many of them photoshopping the costume on pictures of him.

In addition, the A Quiet Place director also has ties to the MCU. Years ago, the husband of Emily Blunt auditioned to play Captain America and got as far as a screen test before the role went to Chris Evans.

Krasinski even put on the Captain America suit though he explained seeing one Marvel actor’s ripped body really put a damper on the situation.

‘I was putting on the suit, just watching it, I was like, “This is so amazing,” he said in an interview on Conan back in 2016. ‘And I got about right to my waist and was still shirtless, feeling pretty good about myself. It wasn’t 13 Hours yet, but I felt pretty good.

‘And all of a sudden Chris Hemsworth walked by as Thor and he’s like “Hey, mate,’ and I went “I’m good, this is stupid. It’s okay. I’m not Captain America.”‘

Matt Damon turned down 10 percent of Avatar profits

“Could have had two glasses of water with that Avatar cash.”

Hey, here’s a quick, fun math question: What’s 10 percent of $2.847 billion? If you answered “So much money that Matt Damon could have bought one of those islands where they let you hunt a guy, because who’s going to stop you, it’s your dang island,” then, congratulations: You have passed a very important class in cinematic math that Matt Damon, tragically, did not.

Because, as it turns out, that big bag of cash is exactly what Damon apparently passed on a decade back, when James Cameron came knocking asking if he might want to star in a little movie called Avatar—offering 10 percent of the profits in an effort to lure the name star on to his plucky lil’ project. But, as Damon revealed in a session at Cannes this weekend, he turned the role down, because he was committed to the Jason Bourne movies at the time, and wanted to make the “moral” choice, i.e.—the choice where you don’t end up getting $200 million for your private murder island. “I will go down in history,” Damon said in his masterclass at the film festival. “You will never meet an actor who turned down more money.”

To be fair, Damon didn’t seem to be too bothered by the missed payday, laughing about it with the audience and recalling telling the same anecdote to his pal John Krasinski, who responded by noting that, “Nothing would be different in your life if you had done Avatar, except you and me would be having this conversation in space.” Also, it meant that Sam Worthington got to play the character of Jake Sully, and while the largely unknown Worthington definitely didn’t get the same deal offered to him, it does mean we get the ongoing paradox of the planet’s most successful movie starring a guy whose face we couldn’t pick out of a lineup to save our lives.

Per Deadline, Damon also held court on a number of other topics during his panel—ostensibly in support of Stillwater, which is premiering at the festival. That includes his near-misses with directing (most notably on Manchester By The Sea), and what life is like when you’re hanging out with Brad Pitt, one of the few people on the planet more ridiculously famous than Matt Damon: “It was absolute madness,” Damon said, describing a trip with Pitt to the Monaco Grand Prix. “I got arm-barred by security and I had to say, ‘I’m with Brad!’”
