Jane Fonda says her ‘knees gave way’ when she met ‘gorgeous’ Tom Brady: ‘I had to hold onto something’

Jane Fonda gushed over meeting NFL legend Tom Brady on the set of their upcoming movie “80 For Brady.”

The 85-year-old actress starred alongside Lily Tomlin, Sally Field and Rita Moreno in the sports comedy which was produced by Brady’s 199 Productions and features a cameo appearance by the 7-time Super Bowl Champion.

Fonda described becoming starstruck upon meeting Brady, 45, during the film’s premiere screening at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Friday night.

“Tom Brady, I think he went into all of our trailers individually,” she recalled during a Q & A, according to Variety. “And when he walked into my trailer at the end, my knees gave way.”

The “Book Club” star continued, “I had to hold onto something. I mean, he is gorgeous. He is so gorgeous.”

TOM BRADY SHARES FIRST LOOK AT ‘80 FOR BRADY’ WITH JANE FONDA, SALLY FIELD, LILY TOMLIN AND RITA MORENO

The “Book Club” star continued, “I had to hold onto something. I mean, he is gorgeous. He is so gorgeous.”

In the movie, Fonda, Moreno, Field and Tomlin play four best friends and Brady superfans who travel together to Houston, Texas to see the New England Patriots take on the Atlanta Falcons in the 2017 Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LI featured the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history after the Patriots overcame a 23-8 deficit to win the game. In addition to Brady, other Patriots players appeared in the movie including former tight end Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski, retired wide receiver Julian Edelman and former wide receiver Danny Amendola.

During the screening, Field told the audience that she was waiting to meet the star athletes before they arrived.

“I was the one out there welcoming everybody,” the 76-year-old actress remembered.

“There was no one else,” Tomlin, 82, quipped, per Variety.”No PAs out there, just Sally.”

Field continued, “I was out there, ‘Hi, guys! I’m so glad you’re here!”

She added, “I wanted them to feel comfortable. I was a fan and I was out there welcoming them.”

Fonda went on to praise Brady for his good manners, recalling, “Tom was so gracious when he first came on the set to buy lunch.”

The two-time Academy Award winner continued, “It was the first time he went to each of our trailers, which were our dressing rooms, and he introduced himself as though we didn’t know who he was.”

“But again, a true gentleman. He was gracious. And I had one of those huge football sweatshirts waiting for him because my nephew is an enormous fan, and he was so gracious. And [Tom] wrote on it for him, and my nephew now has that on the wall in a frame. [Tom] just has very good manners like that.”

Fonda also raved about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback on the red carpet ahead of the premiere. “”He was kind and humble, which is hard to believe considering how brilliant he is at what he does, but it’s true. He was also sweet and polite,” she told the Hollywood Reporter.

The New York native added, “My knees actually got weak when he walked into my trailer. I’m in awe of that kind of skill. When somebody is the best in the world at what they do, you have to honor that and respect it. I was just awestruck.”

During her interview with THR, Tomlin complimented Brady on his acting skills. “He’s a good actor,” she told the outlet. “He’s very personable and unassuming.”

She went on to describe Brady’s performance during a long scene that they share together in the film.

The “Grace & Frankie” alum said, “Just looking at his face and his eyes and watching him listen to me as an actor trying to reciprocate in the same way. I felt like I was that [real-life] woman from Boston who was in her 80s. I felt, in fact, as though he was my son when I had to do this speech with him.”

Based on a true story, “80 For Brady” follows four friends who set their sights on seeing Brady play in the Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons.
(Paramount Pictures Corporation)

“He’s clearly a performer,” Field told THR. “He knows where to put any kind of adrenaline he might have and knows how to ride it over the top. He’s a jaw-dropping, once-in-a-lifetime athlete and that’s really hard to be around.

“Just the fact that I was there, I mean, I’ve been a fan and watched him play — who hasn’t? He’s really staggering, not only for his physical skills but for his mental skills. He’s a chess player out there [on the field].”

Last summer, Brady told THR that he was very impressed while watching the veteran actresses perform on set.

“We found the most amazing actresses,” the first-time producer said. “Lily, Jane, Rita and Sally. They brought it all to life. At the end of the day, watching them act and watching them perform was so cool.”

Directed by Kyle Marvin, the movie also starred Billy Porter, Rob Corddry,  Sara Gilbert, Glynn Turman, Bob Balaban, Ron Funches, Jimmy O. Yang Harry Hamlin and Guy Fieri.

“80 For Brady” will be released in theaters on February 3.

Jane Fonda has spoken about her cancer diagnosis for the first time, writing in a lengthy blog post that she feels ‘stronger than she has in years.’

The actress, 84, shared that she was ‘deeply moved and uplifted by the expressions of love from fans,’ after revealing last week she’d been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

In a post on her official blog, Jane also shared that she was due to start chemotherapy in three weeks time, and despite battling the disease twice before, she’s been told her condition is ‘very treatable.’

Updated: Jane Fonda has revealed she feels ‘stronger than she has in years,’ as she discussed her cancer diagnosis for the first time

Cancer: The actress, posted that she was ‘deeply moved and uplifted’ by the expressions of love from her fans in a post on her blog, which she tweeted on Tuesday

In the post, Jane wrote: ‘I have been deeply moved and uplifted by all the expressions of love and support since I made public the fact that I’ve been diagnosed with B-cell Non-Hodgins Lymphoma.

‘My heartfelt thanks to all. The messages of love and support mean the world to me.’

‘I want to say again that this is a very treatable cancer and much progress has been made with the medicines patients are given,’ she added.

‘Since last week, so many people have written to me or posted that they have had this type of cancer and have been cancer-free for many decades.

Moved: ‘I have been deeply moved and uplifted by all the expressions of love and support since I made public the fact that I’ve been diagnosed with B-cell Non-Hodgins Lymphoma. My heartfelt thanks to all. The messages of love and support mean the world to me,’ Fonda began

‘Well, I’ll soon be 85 so I won’t have to worry about ”many decades.” One will do just fine.’

Detailing her current state of health, Jane explained she is feeling well ahead of her first chemotherapy session in three weeks time, and is following her doctor’s advice to keep active.

She added: ‘Today, about 3 weeks from my first chemo session, I must tell you that I feel stronger than I have in years.

‘The doctor told me the best antidote to the tiredness that chemotherapy can cause is to move. Walk. And I have been walking. Very early before the record heat kicks in. Also working out.’

Jane also shared a YouTube video that showed her doing squats against a large green ball while holding a pair of dumbbells.

Fonda noted that this is not her first bout with the disease, as she has survived breast cancer, ‘and come through very well and she will do so again.’

She continued: ‘As I said in my statement last week, I am painfully aware that the top-drawer treatment I receive is not something everyone in this country can count on and I consider that a travesty. It isn’t fair, and I will continue to fight for quality health care for all.’

She also noted that she is committed to her work ‘confronting the urgent climate crisis, caused by fossil fuels’ and will continue to campaign for the cause despite her health battle.

Cancer: Fonda added this is not her first bout with the disease, as she has survived breast cancer, ‘and come through very well and I will do so again’

‘This diagnosis has only made me more determined than ever to continue to end the deadly effects of fossil fuels,’ she continued.

‘While most of us know that fossil fuels are the primary cause of the climate crisis, many may not know that fossil fuel emissions also cause cancer as well as other major health problems like birth defects, childhood leukemia, heart attacks, strokes, lung disease and preterm birth,’ Fonda said.

She added that we as a society, ‘must come together to put an end to this deadly correlation,’ and that too many families have suffered.

Determined: ‘This diagnosis has only made me more determined than ever to continue to end the deadly effects of fossil fuels,’ she continued

Power: ‘It does not have to be this way. We have it within our power to change this and I intend to do everything in my power to do so. This cancer will not deter me,’ she insisted

‘It does not have to be this way. We have it within our power to change this and I intend to do everything in my power to do so. This cancer will not deter me,’ she insisted.

She went onto ask her fans to visit JanePAC.com, ‘to learn about our work to elect climate champions across the country and counter the outsized influence fossil fuel companies have on our government,’ while asking them to donate, ‘whatever you can.’

‘We need you, your friends, your family and colleagues. With the crucial midterms around the corner, it’s all hands on deck!’ she said.

She also asked fans to visit FireDrillFridays.org to learn how they can participate in various actions around the country.

The actions include the livestream on Friday, September 9, ‘featuring marine biologist John Hocevar, Director of Greenpeace’s oceans campaign who will tell us what happened at the recent UN Global Ocean Treaty.

‘Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for your loving thoughts!’ she concluded.

Sad news: On Friday, Jane took to Instagram to reveal she’d been diagnosed with cancer for the third time

On Friday, Jane took to Instagram to reveal she’d been diagnosed with cancer for the third time.

She wrote: ‘So, my dear friends, I have something personal I want to share.

‘I’ve been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and have started chemo treatments. This is a very treatable cancer. 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky.’

The thrice-married star, who has previously battled the disease, went on to say she was ‘lucky’ to ‘have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatment.’

Fonda, a two-time Oscar winner, added that she is ‘privileged as a celebrity.’

She has previously been diagnosed with both breast and skin cancer, and blamed the latter on her past love of sunbathing.

Fonda says she attended the 2016 Golden Globes in a ruffled white dress designed to disguise recent surgery she’d had to remove her breast.

She told Vogue: ‘I get out of the car and I have the strange white dress with all the ruffles? That’s because I’d just had a mastectomy and I had to cover my bandages.’

In her Instagram post, Fonda reassured fans and loved ones and said she would need to acclimate to a new reality as she fights the cancer.

‘Cancer is a teacher and I’m paying attention to the lessons it holds for me,’ she wrote. ‘One thing it’s shown me already is the importance of community. Of growing and deepening one’s community so that we are not alone.

‘And the cancer, along with my age – almost 85 – definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.’

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the body’s immune system, with symptoms including swollen lymph nodes, abdominal and chest pain, fevers, fatigue and weight loss.

Tough time: The star explained that she while she would be receiving chemotherapy, she was hopeful for a good outcome

The cancer can occur at any age, but the risks increases with age as it’s most common in people 60 and over, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The news comes on the heels of the final episode of Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s adult Netflix comedy series, Grace and Frankie, which aired the last season in April.

Fonda who has previously suffered from breast and skin cancer said in a 2019 interview that she ‘had a lot of cancer’ and that her battle was a ‘ongoing process’.

‘I’ve had a lot of cancer’ The Klute star said. ‘I was a sun-worshipper. When I have a day off, I frequently go to my skin doctor and have things cut off me by a surgeon.’

In 2010, she had a breast cancer scare, but doctors quickly discovered the cancer had not spread.

At the time, Fonda wrote of the scare on her internet blog: ‘I had a scare with a non-invasive breast cancer but it is ALL OUT NOW!!!’.

‘Iam so lucky,’ she added. ‘We got it early and it was, as I said,non-invasive. I want to thank my friends and fans who have writtenbeautiful letters. It has meant a lot to me.’

Recalling the 2016 Golden Globes, where she was nominated for best supporting actress in Youth, she said: ‘I get out of the car and I have the strange white dress with all the ruffles? That’s because I’d just had a mastectomy and I had to cover my bandages.’

The two-time Academy Award winner, who underwent a lumpectomy for breast cancer in 2010, added her battle is a ‘ongoing process’.

Candid: The star, who previously battled breast cancer, revealed she wore a white gown to the Golden Globes in 2016 that hid her surgery bandages

In 2018 Fonda had a cancerous growth removed from her lower lip, which was likely basal-cell carcinoma (the most common form of skin cancer).

‘I just want to explain the bandage,’ the 80-year-old acting legend told the AOL BUILD Series audience.

‘I just had a cancer taken from my lip. I thought it was going to heal in time before I came before you, but it’s fine. I just want to explain it. I don’t normally go around like this. The world is falling apart. What’s a lip?’

Fonda has been open about the health implications of getting older, admitting her ‘whole body hurts’ because of osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break.

‘The fact that I hurt a lot – my body hurts – is a surprise to me, and it’s not because of all that working out,’ she said.

‘It’s genetic. My father Henry had it, my brother Peter had it. Your cartilage disappears and then it’s bone on bone, and then “ow”. But we live in a time where you can just get a new one.’

Cancer of the lymph nodes which affects 13,700 new people every year in the UK

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph nodes, which is the body’s disease-fighting network.

That network consists of the spleen, bone marrow, lymph nodes and thymus gland.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma can occur anywhere in the body but is usually first noticed in the lymph nodes around sufferers’ necks.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma affects around 13,700 new people every year in the UK. In the US, more than 74,600 people are diagnosed annually.

It is more common in males than females, and it is commonly diagnosed either in a patient’s early 20s or after the age of 55.

Five-year survival rates:

Survival can vary widely with NHL.

The general survival rate for five years is 70 percent, and the chance of living 10 years is approximately 60 percent.

Symptoms include:

  • Painless swellings in the neck, armpit or groin
  • Heavy night sweating
  • Unexplained weight loss of more than one-tenth of a person’s body
  • Itching

Risk factors:

  • over 75
  • have a weak immune system
  • suffer from celiac disease
  • have a family history of the condition
  • have had other types of cancer

Treatment:

It depends on the number and locations of the body affected by Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Therapy typically includes chemotherapy.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma: What is the cancer that Jane Fonda announced she has?

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Two-time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda announced on Instagram on Friday that she’s been diagnosed with a treatable form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“So, my dear friends, I have something personal I want to share,” the 84-year-old wrote.

“I’ve been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and have started chemo treatments,” Fonda also said.

Cancer occurs when cells in the body grow out of control, according to the American Cancer Society. Almost any cell in the human body can become cancerous and spread to other parts of the body, the same source also explained.

JANE FONDA ANNOUNCES CANCER DIAGNOSIS: ‘VERY TREATABLE’

But what is non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, exactly?

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) is a type of cancer that begins in the immune system.

Jane Fonda announced on Friday that she is suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma — a type of cancer that can start anywhere in the body where lymph tissue is located.

The immune system helps fight infection, but sometimes a cancer can start in the white blood cells called lymphocytes and cause non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the society added.

It is a general term that is used for many types of lymphoma that occurs most often in adults, per the association.

Approximately 2% of men and women will be diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at some point during their lifetime, according to the National Cancer Institute’s data from 2017-2019.

The institute estimates that 763,401 people were living with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the United States in 2019.

Where does lymphoma start?

“Lymphomas can start anywhere in the body where lymph tissue is found,” according to the American Cancer Society’s website.

These include lymph nodes, which are small, bean-shaped structures that are connected by a network of lymphatic vessels.

They’re located throughout the body, such as inside the chest and abdomen and pelvis. Lymph tissue is also found in the spleen, bone marrow, thymus, tonsils and digestive tract.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms include fever, night sweats and weight loss as well as a swelling of lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Patients may feel persistent fatigue, coughing, shortness of breath or chest pain.

What are the different types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma?

“The lymph system is made up mainly of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infections,” according to the American Cancer Society’s website.

There are two types of lymphocytes: B cells or T cells.

B cells help the body fight germs by creating antibodies — which in turn help the body neutralize them.

“There are several types of T cells. Some T cells destroy germs or abnormal cells in the body,” according to the American Cancer Society.

Some 763,401 people were living with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the United States in 2019, according to National Cancer Institute estimates.

“Other T cells help boost or slow the activity of other immune system cells.”

Although lymphoma can start in either type of cell line, B-cell lymphomas are most common.

What causes NHL?

Lymphocytes usually go through a life cycle, in which old lymphocytes die — and then the body replaces them.

“In non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, your lymphocytes don’t die, and your body keeps creating new ones,” according to the Mayo Clinic’s website.

“This oversupply of lymphocytes crowds into your lymph nodes, causing them to swell.”

Some lymphomas are more aggressive

Lymphomas also can be categorized by how fast they grow and spread to other parts of the body.

Some are known as “indolent,” which means they grow and spread slowly, so they might not need to be treated when first diagnosed.

“The most common type of indolent lymphoma in the United States is follicular lymphoma,” according to the American Cancer Society.

Fonda posted on Instagram that she feels lucky because she has a “very treatable cancer” with an 80% survivable rate.

Aggressive lymphomas, however, grow and spread rapidly, so treatment is often started immediately.

“The most common type of aggressive lymphoma in the United States is diffuse large B cell lymphoma,” per the American Cancer Society. “Regardless of how quickly they grow, all non-Hodgkin lymphomas can spread to other parts of the lymph system if not treated.”

Eventually, they can also spread to other parts of the body.

STUDY SUGGESTS ALCOHOL AND SMOKING CAUSE ALMOST HALF OF GLOBAL CANCER DEATHS

The overall five-year relative survival rate for NHL is 73.8%, per the National Cancer Institute’s 2012 to 2018 data.

Fonda posted on Instagram that she feels lucky because she has a “very treatable cancer” with an 80% survivable rate, although she did not specify the exact type she has.

What are the risk factors?

Some people are more at risk for NHL, including those who take medications to depress the immune system and patients with certain viral infections, such as HIV or the virus that can cause mononucleosis known as Epstein-Barr virus, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The cancer is also associated with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, which causes stomach ulcers as well as certain chemicals that are used to kill insects and weeds, per Mayo Clinic.

NEW STUDY SUGGESTS YOU SHOULD STOP EATING ULTRA-PROCESSED FOODS

And people over the age of 60 are at higher risk, although anyone can get the cancer, per Mayo Clinic.

Fonda say she’ll continue her environmental activism

“I’m doing chemo for six months and am handling the treatments quite well and, believe me, I will not let any of this interfere with my climate activism,” said Fonda, who is also an advocate for environmental issues.

She was inspired by Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg in 2019, she said, to become an advocate for the climate change, starting “Fire Drill Fridays” to raise awareness of environmental challenges, according to her website.

She was arrested multiple times that year after organizing protests on the climate crisis in Washington, D.C, according to The New York Times.
