No Way Home’ crosses $1 billion mark at worldwide box office

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is a global phenomenon.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” cruised past the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office Sunday, making it the highest-grossing movie of the pandemic-rattled year, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“No Way Home” hurtled to that financial milestone after just two weeks in multiplexes. The superhero smash has netted $467.3 million from North American theaters and $587.1 million more from international markets, the studio said.

The movie easily conquered the three-day holiday weekend in North America, too, grossing about $81 million from 4,336 locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Peter Parker’s climb to the top of the box-office charts came even as the omicron variant of the coronavirus spread rapidly across the U.S., raising new concerns about indoor activities.

The film has sprinted past “even the most ambitious expectations and amid the headwinds presented by the omicron variant,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, which tracks box office data.

The last film to reach $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales was “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” (2019), according to Comscore.

“No Way Home” is the third chapter in the cycle of Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. The latest installment features a supporting turn from Benedict Cumberbatch as the Marvel sorcerer Doctor Strange.

The series is a collaboration between the Disney-owned powerhouse Marvel Studios and Sony, which owns film rights to the Spider-Man character.

“Sing 2,” an animated musical featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, claimed the No. 2 spot on the domestic charts, earning $23.76 million from 3,892 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. (The movie was distributed by Universal Pictures, a unit of NBC News’ parent company, NBCUniversal.)

The holiday weekend’s other major new releases turned in less commanding commercial performances.

“The Matrix Resurrections,” the fourth installment in the mind-bending science fiction series, collected $22.5 million in North America after debuting Wednesday, including $12 million over the three-day weekend, according to Warner Bros.

“Resurrections” premiered simultaneously on the ad-free version of the streaming service HBO Max. The platform does not publicly disclose viewership data, making it difficult to estimate how many people saw the movie during its opening weekend.

The new “Matrix” has so far drawn a mixed critical response, notching a 66 percent “fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B- in CinemaScore exit polls as of Sunday morning.

“The King’s Man,” the third entry in Matthew Vaughn’s violent “Kingsman” spy series, nabbed $10 million in North American theaters after debuting Wednesday, including $6.3 million over the three-day weekend.

Cardiologists Explain How To Track Blood Pressure At Home

If your blood pressure is top-of-mind right now, you’re not alone. Nearly half of adults in the United States have high blood pressure, a condition that puts them at risk for developing heart disease and stroke. A recent study published by the American Heart Association found that blood pressure rates rose among middle-aged American adults during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given just how many people in the country have high blood pressure (also known as hypertension), it’s understandable that you’d start to think about keeping tabs on your blood pressure situation (and exploring diet and exercise habits that might improve cardiovascular health). Luckily, checking your blood pressure is easy enough to do: Most drugstores carry blood pressure monitors you can use at home. But, is this something you should do? Here’s what you need to know about monitoring your blood pressure at home every day—and who can benefit from it—according to cardiologists.

Okay, what is blood pressure

Your blood pressure is the pressure of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Your arteries, in case you’re not familiar with them, are tiny tubes in your body that carry blood from your heart to other parts of your body.

When you have your blood pressure taken, you’ll see two numbers. The first one is your systolic blood pressure, and this number indicates how much pressure your blood is exerting against your artery walls as your heart beats. The second number is the diastolic blood pressure, and it tells you how much pressure your blood is exerting when your heart is resting in between beats. The American College of Cardiology (ACA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) define hypertension as blood pressure at or above 130/80 mmHg. Ideally, you want your blood pressure to be less than 120/80 mmHg, which is what the organizations consider “normal.”

Your blood pressure naturally goes up and down during the day but, if it stays high for more extended periods, it raises the risk of heart damage. In fact, American Heart Association says high blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease, and nearly 75 percent of all heart disease cases involve high blood pressure levels.

When should someone check their blood pressure at home?

“Knowing your blood pressure is helpful for identifying risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, like stroke,” says Jennifer Wong, MD, cardiologist and medical director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at MemorialCare Heart and Vascular Institute at Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California. Technically, anybody can check their blood pressure at home, but cardiologists say there are a few groups that would benefit most:

1. You’ve already been diagnosed with hypertension

“If you have a diagnosis of hypertension and take medicine, it’s useful to have a home blood pressure cuff to check blood pressure periodically and make sure it’s well-controlled,” says Jennifer Haythe, MD, co-director of the Women’s Center for Cardiovascular Health at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and cardiologist at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia.

2. Your blood pressure was high at your doctor’s office, but you’ve never had an issue before

This is what’s known as “white coat hypertension,” which is when your blood pressure goes up at your doctor’s office, Dr. Haythe says. If this happens to you, “it’s helpful to check your blood pressure at home daily for a week and make sure it’s truly normal,” she says.

3. You’re on medication that could raise your blood pressure

Certain medications—including antidepressants and corticosteroids—can raise your blood pressure, says Holly S. Andersen, MD, an attending cardiologist and associate professor of clinical medicine at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center. If you recently went on a new medication with the potential to raise your blood pressure, she says it might be “useful” to take readings at home.

4. You’re pregnant and your last reading was iffy

During pregnancy, you can develop a condition known as preeclampsia, which is high blood pressure when you’re pregnant. People who are pregnant “could benefit from a home blood pressure cuff to make sure they aren’t developing preeclampsia, especially toward the last several weeks of pregnancy,” Dr. Haythe says.

5. You have a lot of risk factors for hypertension

A range of things that can put you at a higher-than-normal risk of developing hypertension, including having diabetes, eating an unhealthy diet, having obesity, not being as physically active as you should, and drinking more than the recommended amount, according to the CDC.

6. You never go to the doctor

It’s generally recommended that you see your primary care physician at least once a year, but “younger people don’t usually go the doctor as much,” Dr. Wong says. If you don’t see your GP often and you have risk factors for high blood pressure, “having a home monitor can be useful,” Dr. Wong says.

5. Tips for checking your blood pressure at home

1. Try to check around the same time

“It is good to do this at the same time each day as your blood pressure changes throughout the day,” Andersen says. Just a heads up, though: It’s best not to take your blood pressure first thing. “Your blood pressure after awakening is most often the highest blood pressure of the day,” Dr. Andersen says.

2. Make sure you’re seated

The AHA recommends sitting with your back straight and supported (i.e., on a dining chair, not a sofa). Your feet should be flat on the floor, and your legs should not be crossed. You’ll want your arm supported on a flat surface like a table with the upper arm at heart level

3. Wait a few minutes before you take your reading

The AHA recommends emptying your bladder and having five minutes of “quiet rest” before taking your measurements. “You want to be relaxed,” Dr. Wong says. “Your physical activity and stress can affect the reading.”

4. Take two to three readings, a minute apart

The AHA suggests taking two to three readings, with a minute break in between. Andersen recommends taking off the cuff completely between readings. “Leaving it on, partially inflated, will alter the readings,” she says. By the way, “if the results vary significantly, there is something wrong with the device,” Dr. Haythe says.

5. Don’t drink caffeine or exercise 30 minutes beforehand

“Caffeine can elevate your blood pressure, so it is best to avoid for 30 minutes before taking your reading,” Dr. Andersen explains. “Your blood pressure increases as you exercise, and it will take a few minutes for it to return to baseline.”

If you find that your blood pressure is consistently high, it’s time to call your doctor, Dr. Wong says. “You’ll want to see your doctor and come up with a treatment plan,” she says. “We tend to start with lifestyle modifications and go from there. But getting treated is crucial.”

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Is Biggest Movie of the Year Worldwide

“Spider-Man: No Way Home’s” box office prowess knows no bounds.

The latest entry in the Tom Holland-led trilogy will become the biggest movie of the year worldwide on Friday, Christmas Eve.

It’s set to cross the $1 billion mark on Christmas Day. At 11 days, it would be the second-fastest to hit that milestone (behind 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” at five days and tied with 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War”). It would also be the first theatrical release of the pandemic to join the billion-dollar club — even without China, the largest box office market in the world.

“No Way Home” made $29.3 million domestically on Thursday, bringing its seven-day gross to $385.8 million — the third-highest seven-day gross of all time, the highest seven-day gross in the “Spider-Man” franchise, and the second-highest seven-day gross ever for December and for a superhero film.

The Thursday earning is the third-highest Thursday gross of December of all time, and the highest Thursday take for Sony, the “Spider-Man” franchise and for a superhero pic.

Internationally, it brought in $32.2 million on Thursday, bumping its overseas total to $490.2 million and global haul to $876.0 million.

“The Matrix Resurrections,” meanwhile, made $6.4 million on Wednesday and $4.1 million on Thursday from 3,552 venues in North America for a two-day total of $10.5 million. Picking up 20 years after 2003’s “The Matrix Revolutions,” the sci-fi adventure is expected to finish the holiday weekend with $40 million to $50 million. If it hits the higher end of estimates, “Resurrections” would beat “Dune” ($41 million) to become Warner Bros.’ top opening of the year.

Another sequel, “Sing 2,” earned $8.1 million on Wednesday and $7.5 million on Thursday at 3,892 North America locations for a total of $15.6 million. Including ticket sales from Thanksgiving weekend advanced screenings, it’s grossed $17.2 million so far. The family-friendly musical is on track to rack up at least $40 million by Sunday.

In total, seven new films opened this weekend, including “The King’s Man,” “The Tender Bar,” “A Journal for Jordan,” “American Underdog” and “Licorice Pizza.” But none of them will top “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which debuted to a record-breaking $260 million last weekend.

On Monday, “No Way Home” raked in another $37 million, and early estimates for this weekend predicted the superhero movie would make another $100 million this weekend.

“Sing 2” and “The Matrix Resurrections,” which both opened on Wednesday, are vying for the No. 2 spot. Directed by Garth Jennings, the “Sing” sequel stars Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Nick Kroll, Pharrell Williams, Taron Egerton and Bono as animated animals who perform hits like Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” and Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

The fourth “Matrix” movie, directed by Lana Wachowski, sees the return of Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity — though neither remembers the past. “The Matrix Resurrections,” which debuted simultaneously on HBO Max, also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Jada Pinkett Smith.

No Way Home’ Will Be First $1 Billion Movie At Pandemic Box Office – Deadline

FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home ends the week with $385.8M, the third-best opening week at the domestic box office of all time after Avengers: Endgame ($473.9M, 2019) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($390.8M, 2015). Sony reports that the film on Saturday will become the first $1 billion-grossing movie of the pandemic at the global box office.

Spidey is pacing 1% behind the running domestic total of Force Awakens, however, it remains to be seen whether the Jon Watts-directed MCU title can keep up with the Lucasfilm sequel, that movie hitting $571.4M on its 11th day of release (Monday). Still, should No Way Home fall short of that figure, it’s like complaining about how far Mike Trout hit two home runs.

No Way Home earned $29.3M stateside on Thursday at 4,336 theaters, +9% from Wednesday. That’s the sixth-highest Thursday for a movie in regular release after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith ($50M, 2005), The Matrix Reloaded ($37.5M, 2003), The Hangover Part II ($31.6M, 2011), Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ($30.58M, 2019) and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones ($30.1M, 2002).

Due to Christmas Eve and theaters going quiet for the evening as many celebrate or head to church, expect ticket sales to be down. The Star Wars movies that played at Christmas — Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker and Rogue One — saw an average daily box office drop on Christmas Eve of 33%. Force Awakens made the most on Christmas Eve with $27.3M, followed by Rise of Skywalker with $20.2M, Last Jedi with $17.6M and Rogue One with $15.3M. Force Awakens holds the Christmas Day record for the most made by any film with $49.3M domestic.

Comscore reports 100% of schools and colleges on holiday break for the rest of the year.

Sing 2
Universal

In second for Thursday was Illumination/Universal’s Sing 2 which took in $7.5M at 3,892 venues, an 8% dip, for a two day gross of $15.4M, which is 25% behind the two days of Sing. Those Black Friday weekend previews amounted to $1.6M and puts the running total for Sing 2 at $17.2M. The outlook for the sequel is great with at least $40M-$42M for five days. Great Comscore/Screen Engine PostTrack exits here for the Garth Jennings directed and written sequel in addition to its A+ CinemaScore with 91% positive and a 78% recommend from the general crowds and kids under 12 giving it a 92% positive and 67% recommend. The animated sequel leaned 66% women with 33% under 17, a draw which will climb throughout the holidays and a diversity pull of 39% Caucasian, 32% Hispanic and Latino, 16% Black and 13% Asian/other. Sing 2 is doing very well in the Mid-West and Southern part of the U.S.

Warner Bros

Warner Bros/Village Roadshow’s Matrix Resurrections ranked third with $4.1M on Thursday, -36% from Wednesday for a two-day take of $10.5M. Currently the Lana Wachowski-directed sequel is pacing 44% ahead of Christmas 2016’s sci-fi movie Passengers which made $7.3M in two days; that movie resulting in a $14.8M 3-day, $22.1M 5-day. On top of that B- CinemaScore, PostTrack early audience exits for Matrix Resurrections aren’t good with 60% positive, a 46% recommend, not to mention that HBO Max availability doesn’t help ticket sales. Those who showed up were men at 66% with 57% between 25-54 and a diversity make-up of 39% Caucasian, 22% Hispanic and Latino, 19% Black and 20% Asian/other. West and the Southwest are showing the best ticket sales for the sequel/reboot with close to a third of the movie’s business coming from Imax and PLF screens.

20th Century Studios

20th Century Studios/Disney’s The King’s Man is the least of the new wide holiday releases with an estimated $1.3M on Thursday, ranking 4th, -41% from Wednesday for a two-day gross of $3.6M. We’ll update with Disney’s official AM estimate when that comes in. Most of the movie’s business is coming from the West and the South, with PostTrak exits that are better than Matrix Resurrections at 77% positive, 60% recommend. Men are buying tickets at 66% with just over half the pic’s business from the 18-34 demographic and 43% over 45 years old. Caucasians repped 47% of the B.O., followed by 25% Hispanic and Latino, 10% Black and 18% Asian/other. Through five days, this prequel may not even make it to double digits. Eek.

Los Angeles Lakers bid adieu in home arena’s final game as Staples Center

LOS ANGELES — Fans at Thursday night’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs commemorated the arena known for more than 22 years as Staples Center at its final event before it will be christened as Crypto.com Arena on Saturday.

“Staples,” as it was known colloquially in Los Angeles, became synonymous with the Lakers’ championship teams headlined by Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and Pau Gasol and coached by Phil Jackson. The Lakers won the NBA championship each of their first three seasons at Staples Center, and won three additional titles while calling the building home.

At halftime of the Lakers’ 138-110 loss to San Antonio, the team held player introductions for former Lakers Gary Payton, Byron Scott, Luke Walton, Metta Sandiford-Artest and Robert Horry, as each trotted out to stand amid six trophies each resting on a plinth on the court.

Staples Center also hosted three NBA All-Star Games whose MVPs were O’Neal, Bryant and LeBron James, respectively. The 2011 All-Star Weekend featured LA Clippers forward Blake Griffin’s storied dunk over a car on All-Star Saturday. In addition, Bryant’s 81-point milestone in 2006 as well as his 60-point performance in his final NBA game in 2016 took place on the hardwood at Staples Center.

AEG Worldwide, the owner of the arena that has housed the Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers for the past 20 years, sold the naming rights to office-supply giant Staples in 1997 for $116 million for a term of 20 years that began when the arena opened its doors in downtown Los Angeles in 1999.

The building will be rebranded as Crypto.com Arena on Christmas Day, when the Lakers face the Brooklyn Nets (8p, ESPN). The Singapore-based cryptocurrency platform purchased the rights from AEG for $700 million over 20 years, according to multiple reports.

FDA authorizes Merck antiviral pill to treat COVID at home: Updates

A day after authorizing the first antiviral pill to treat COVID-19, the Food and Drug Administration on Thursday authorized a second: Merck’s molnupiravir.

The prescription medication, which can be taken at home, is designed to stop the progression of COVID-19 from mild to severe symptoms in people at high risk. In data presented to an FDA advisory panel in late November, the drug was shown to prevent 30% of infections from progressing – far fewer than Pfizer’s antiviral Paxlovid, which the FDA authorized on Wednesday.

Molnupiravir, produced also by Ridgeback Biotherapeutics should be given within five days of COVID-19 symptoms beginning and should only be given to adults because it may affect bone and cartilage growth, the FDA noted. The drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy because animal studies suggest it may damage the fetus.

Several doctors told USA TODAY that they would only prescribe molnupiravir if they had no other alternative, and the FDA seemed to echo that by noting in its authorization announcement that the drug is to be used by people at high risk for severe disease “for whom alternative COVID-19 treatment options authorized by the FDA are not accessible or clinically appropriate.”

“There are a lot of question marks still to answer, however, If I had nothing else to provide to a patient that was at high risk, that’s a risk-reward discussion with a patient,” said Michael Ganio, senior director of Pharmacy Practice and Quality at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. “That decision may lean in favor of molnupiravir if it was available.”

The U.S. government has pre-purchased 3.1 million courses of molnupiravir, for about $2.2 billion. Merck said it was ready to ship hundreds of thousands of courses within days of authorization and 1 million courses over the next few weeks in the U.S. Ten million courses of treatment are ready to be packaged and distributed worldwide. Paxlovid is also expected to be in short supply at first because it is difficult and time-consuming to manufacture.

Worried that a new COVID-19 wave could overwhelm understaffed U.S. hospitals, federal officials on Thursday loosened rules that call on health care workers to stay out of work for 10 days if they test positive.

Those workers now will be allowed to come back to work after seven days if they test negative and don’t have symptoms. Isolation time can be cut if there are severe staffing shortages, according to the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance.

“As the health care community prepares for an anticipated surge in patients due to omicron, CDC is updating our recommendations to reflect what we know about infection and exposure in the context of vaccination and booster doses,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in a statement.

“Our goal is to keep health care personnel and patients safe, and to address and prevent undue burden on our healthcare facilities,” she added.

Isolation is designed to keep infected people away from uninfected people, to prevent further spread of the virus.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday that Manhattan’s annual celebration will require additional COVID-19 protections including vaccination and mask requirements. The event is completely outdoors.

Attendees who are age 5 or over must present proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter the event.

To allow for social distancing, certain areas will allow fewer viewers than usual.

“There is a lot to celebrate and these additional safety measures will keep the fully vaccinated crowd safe and healthy as we ring in the New Year,” Mayor de Blasio said in a press release.

The annual Times Square New Year’s event usually hosts about 58,000 people in viewing areas. This year’s celebration will only host around 15,000 and visitors won’t be allowed to enter areas until 3 pm ET.

“The mayor has made the right move to take precautionary measures as we learn to live with COVID and fight the Omicron variant,” Mayor-elect Eric Adams said.

Positive COVID test? Here’s what to do.

Testing positive for COVID-19 starts a confusing, disruptive and at times frightening process — one that millions of Americans will likely go through in coming weeks as the omicron variant rapidly spreads this holiday season.

First, you need to isolate. That’s a more intense version of quarantining — it means cutting off contact with other people as much as possible, so that you reduce your chances of infecting them. It also means forgoing travel, not going to work and even limiting contact with people in your own household who aren’t infected.

The CDC says it’s a necessary step whether you’re vaccinated or unvaccinated; showing symptoms or feeling fine.

Everyone who tests positive for COVID-19 should also monitor their symptoms. And people who are unvaccinated or at high risk for severe disease should be extra vigilant for symptoms that might require emergency care. Call your doctor for early treatment options.

How long should you isolate? How long will I be contagious? What if you are a close contact with someone who tested positive? Here’s what you should know about omicron and COVID this holiday season.

Just when it seemed like life could approach some semblance of normalcy, COVID has come roaring back, casting a shadow over Christmas services for millions.

The rapid surge of the highly contagious omicron variant had local health experts offering blunt advice Wednesday: Stay away from crowded Christmas Masses and holiday parties this weekend.

“If people are going to gather in places of worship, they should be prepared for the fact that they will be exposed to the variant,” said Perry Halkitis, dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health. Read more here.

A disorienting torrent of new information about the omicron coronavirus variant continues to flow as Americans finalize their holiday plans – traditions that once again will have profound public health consequences.

Some news appears ominous, including a new projection suggesting about half of the nation can expect to become infected with the variant in the next few months. That’s an unprecedented number of cases, a number that once would have been expected to result in untold suffering.

But the projection can also be grouped in with a growing scientific consensus that an omicron infection appears to be less risky than previous variants. Scientists are still sorting out the role of vaccines, prior infection, demographics and the virus’ many mutations in this trend. Meanwhile, two British studies added more evidence to the theory that omicron is milder than delta, showing a lower risk of hospitalization.

But on Wednesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci cautioned that celebrating the spread of a likely less-severe version of COVID-19 is premature: “You can’t count on anything when you’re dealing with a virus that has fooled us so many times before,” Fauci said.

COVID-19 cases in the United States have increased about 36% in just the last week, a USA TODAY analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. The U.S. went from reporting about 120,000 cases a day to more than 160,000.

Maryland has joined New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., in reporting a record number of cases, while Maine again reported a record number of deaths.

Across the United States, about 88 communities reported a record number of cases, the analysis shows. Those include heavily populated counties around Boston, Chicago, New York City, New Haven and Providence, as well as about 30 municipalities in Puerto Rico.

The Supreme Court announced Wednesday it will hear oral arguments in a number of challenges to President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine-or-testing requirements for large employers and health care facilities.

The high court was already considering several appeals about those requirements on an emergency basis – which rarely involve oral arguments – but the court announced it would take a more formal approach to the cases and scheduled arguments for Jan. 7.

The justices deferred action on the challenges until after then.

While largely a procedural move, the development signaled the nation’s highest court may be prepared to wade into the thorny issue of vaccine mandates for the first time during the coronavirus pandemic. The court has turned away challenges to other such regulations in Indiana, Maine and New York, allowing state or local vaccine mandates to remain in effect.

Ohio laid out more details Wednesday about its strategy to combat the surge of COVID-19 patients that understaffed hospitals are facing after reporting a record daily high in the number of new COVID-19 cases Tuesday: 12,502. The state broke it again Wednesday reporting 12,864 new cases.

Hospitalizations are also reaching levels not seen since last winter’s surge when vaccines were just becoming available. As of Tuesday, there were 4,797 Ohioans in the hospital for the virus – one in four patients at Ohio hospitals.

The situation has gotten to the point that Gov. Mike DeWine announced he would send 1,050 Ohio National Guard members to assist hospitals to handle the influx of patients. Facilities are understaffed as workers leave the profession, many of whom are worn out by the pandemic. DeWine also said Ohio was working with a company to bring in nurses from out of state.

“Mr. Ratray denies he ever laid a hand on her or did anything in regards to anything like that,” his attorney Scott Adams said.

And Just Like That… comes 23 years after the original TV series debuted – and 11 years since the second movie, with Sarah, Cynthia and Kristin all returning without Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones.

Filming started in New York City back in June, with production wrapping just weeks ago.

Photos taken from the Paris set caused quite the uproar among fans, as Carrie was spotted kissing a new character, played by Jon Tenney.

Last week’s episode saw Carrie having to deal with Big’s will, where is comes out that he left $1m to his ex wife Natasha Naginsky.

Fans began wildly speculating about the marital status of Carrie and her long-time on-and-off lover Mr. Big (Chris Noth), who finally tied the knot at the end of the first Sex and the City movie.

The trailers released for the new 10-episode series seem to indicate that they’re still quite the happy couple, though given their on-and-off history, it’s possible they could split at some time in the series.

Still, while promoting the show night on The Late Show with Steven Colbert recently, Cynthia and Kristin essentially confirmed that they filmed ‘fake scenes’ to throw rabid fans off.

‘Yes, definitely!’ Kristin exclaimed, while Cynthia shook her head with a wry smile and said, ‘Absolutely not.’

Colbert pointed at Kristin and said, ‘I believe you,’ and when Colbert asked again, Cynthia shrugged and conceded, ‘It might be true.’

They didn’t mention any specific scenes, so it’s unclear if the Paris kissing scene with Jon Tenney was ‘fake’ or not.

Other returning stars include Evan Handler (Harry Goldblatt), David Eigenberg (Steve Brady), and the late Willie Garson, who filmed three episodes as Carrie’s longtime friend Stanford Blatch, before passing away from pancreatic cancer in September at age 57.

And Just Like That… was created by Michael Patrick King, based on the books by Candace Bushnell.

The latest episode comes as Chris Noth, who played Mr. Big in the hit series faces allegations that he raped and sexually assaulted two women.

The 67-year-old actor emerged in Massachusetts on Wednesday, when he spoke with a photographer to once again deny sexual assault accusations from two women, who aired their allegations in an explosive report in The Hollywood Reporter last week.

When asked for further comment on the matter, Noth simply said: ‘You have my statement right? My statement is out, I rest by my statement, I’ll now let the chips fall where they may. My statement is my statement, that’s all I can give.’

In his statement, Noth denied any accusations that he sexually assaulted two women – although he admitted to having ‘consensual encounters’ with them, both of which are understood to have taken place while he was in a relationship with his wife, Tara Wilson.

After the photographer suggested that Noth is ‘innocent until proven guilty’, the actor replied: ‘Well yeah, but you know that’s the way it is’, before saying he ‘hopes’ that he will get to spend the holidays with his wife of nine years and their two sons.

Killed off: Big was killed off in episode one of the series, two weeks before the actor Chris Noth was hit with allegations that he raped and sexually assaulted two women – which he vehemently denies

The report – which featured allegations from two women using the pseudonyms Zoe, now 40, and Lily, now 31, who claim that Noth raped them in 2004 and 2015, respectively – is said to have left the actor’s wife, Tara Wilson, devastated, with sources saying that she is ‘very upset’ and planning to spend Christmas away from her husband, with whom she shares two sons.

Wilson and Noth share two children: Orion, 13, and Keats, 18 months.

Further speculation about the future of the couple’s relationship was prompted this week when DailyMail.com published exclusive images of Wilson, 42, outside the family’s home in Sherman Oaks, California, without her wedding ring on, nearly 3,000 miles away from the Berkshires property where her husband is currently staying.

In the wake of The Hollywood Reporter article, on other woman has come forward to accuse Noth of groping her, while actress Zoe Lister-Jones recalled behavior that made her describe him as a ‘predator’; he has since lost a planned $12 million deal to sell his tequila brand and was fired from the series The Equalizer.

On Monday evening, the actor’s Sex and the City co-stars, Sarah, Cynthia, and Kristin, issued a statement about the accusations made against him, saying: ‘We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth.

‘We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it.’

Denial: Noth denied accusations that he sexually assaulted two women – although he admitted to having ‘consensual encounters’ with them, both of which are understood to have taken place while he was in a relationship with wife, Tara Wilson (pictured)
