Tiffany Haddish claims she lost all jobs amid child molestation lawsuit

Tiffany Haddish claims she “lost everything” as a result of the now-dismissed allegations of child molestation and grooming made against her and fellow comic Aries Spears.

“All my gigs, gone. Everything, gone,” she told TMZ on Wednesday. “I don’t have no job, bro.”

According to IMDB, Haddish, 42, has two projects in post-production, but none that she is currently filming or listed as in pre-production.

She also has no upcoming tour dates for her comedy tour, per Ticketmaster.

Haddish and Spears, 47, were accused of grooming and molesting a brother and sister when they were 14 and 7 years old, respectively, in a lawsuit filed earlier this month.

The alleged victims claimed Haddish coerced them into participating in explicit comedy skits.

One of the shoots allegedly involved the “Girls Trip” star teaching the alleged victim’s sister, known only as Jane Doe in court records, how to mimic fellatio for a skit about kids arguing over a sub sandwich.

The suit also claimed that the little boy was molested by Haddish and Spears while filming a disturbing video published via Funny Or Die and more online platforms, titled “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes.”

However, the two siblings who made the accusations dismissed the lawsuit this week.

“My family and I have known Tiffany Haddish for many years – and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us,” the woman told TMZ on Tuesday, on behalf of herself and her brother.

“We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.”

For his part, Spears previously slammed the claims, calling them “extortion.”

Accusers drop lawsuit against Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears

A surprising story has come to a surprisingly quick end: The anonymous siblings who accused comedians Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears of “intentional infliction of emotional distress, gross negligence, sexual battery, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse of a minor” in a lawsuit earlier this month over a comedy sketch with Spears and Haddish that the siblings filmed when they were children have dropped their complaint and filed for a dismissal with prejudice—meaning that the matter is fully resolved and cannot be refiled.

On top of that, one of the siblings (identified only as Jane Doe) released the following statement (via Deadline): “My family and i have known Tiffany Haddish for many years—and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us. We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.”

While that statement doesn’t mention Spears, his status as a co-defendant in this suit means that any claims against him have also been dropped. Spears posted about the suit getting dropped on his Instagram, but Haddish hasn’t offered any kind of public statement since distancing herself from the sketch in question shortly after the accusations came out. Filmed in 2014, the sketch was called “Through A Pedophile’s Eyes” and involved Spears playing a pedophile character opposite Jane Doe’s brother—who was 7 years old at the time and reportedly called his mother, crying, after filming was finished. (We went over specific descriptions of what was in the sketch in a previous report, if you really want to know.)

With Spears’ post being the only statement we have to go off of, it’s unclear if there was any kind of settlement or what else might have prompted this turn of events. Deadline says that last week there were “whispers of some sort of agreement,” but that’s all.

Accuser Demands DA Arrest Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears ‘Immediately’ in Child Sexual Abuse Case

The Jane Doe suing Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears for sexual abuse of a minor, among other accusations, is now calling on the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to “immediately arrest and prosecute” the comedians.

On Monday, Jane Doe filed a pro se lawsuit on behalf of both herself and her 15-year-old brother—whom the complaint names with the alias “John.” According to the lawsuit, Jane and John knew Haddish as an “auntie” thanks to her long-standing friendship with their mother. They were 14 and 7 years old, respectively, when the complaint alleges that Haddish and Spears recruited them for comedy videos in which each child was asked to perform sexually suggestive acts on camera.

In a letter to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón obtained by The Daily Beast, Jane points out—as The Daily Beast initially reported—that her mother filed a report with Las Vegas police in January of 2020, in which she named both Haddish and Spears. (The Daily Beast has seen a copy of the report.) The letter alleges that since Las Vegas authorities transferred the case to the LAPD, the officer assigned to the case “has done nothing with this complaint.”

“This matter’s breadth and complexity require your jurisdictional powers and resources to tackle and end the stream depravity committed by Haddish and Spears,” Jane’s letter to the District Attorney’s Office concludes. “My brother and I are prepared to speak with investigators and prosecutors from your office and provide you with irrefutable evidence that substantiates our allegations.”

Andrew Brettler, an attorney representing Haddish, has issued a statement on her behalf denying what he calls “bogus claims” and alleging that the siblings’ mother “has been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years.” Debra Opri, an attorney representing Spears, told the Washington Post that her client “isn’t going to fall for any shakedown.” Haddish herself posted a statement to her social media channels on Monday saying that while she was legally bound from discussing the case, “I deeply regret having agreed to act in it.”

In the summer of 2013, when Jane was 14 years old, the lawsuit alleges that Haddish recruited her for a commercial. A year later, Haddish allegedly recruited John for a separate video that the lawsuit claims she described to his mother as a sizzle reel for Nickelodeon. In both cases, Spears and Haddish allegedly asked the children to perform sexually suggestive acts on camera.

My brother and I are prepared to speak with investigators and prosecutors from your office and provide you with irrefutable evidence that substantiates our allegations.

When Jane entered the studio to record her commercial in 2013, the complaint claims that Spears asked her to mimic a video in which a group of co-eds ate a subway sandwich in a sexually suggestive manner, even down to the noises. When Jane sat silent, Haddish allegedly joined the pair and instructed the minor regarding “how to give fellatio, including movements, noises, moaning, and groaning,” the complaint states.

Speaking with The Daily Beast, Jane said she tried to shrug off what happened at the time. But the lawsuit alleges that Jane, like her brother John, remains traumatized by Haddish and Spears’ actions. “Plaintiff Jane Doe is 22 years of age now and has never dated,” the lawsuit states. “She is scared that she will be taken advantage of again and led down a path of false trust like the path that Haddish led her down.”

John’s video was allegedly shot a year later in Aries Spears’ home; while Jane allegedly attended the shoot as a chaperone, the lawsuit claims Haddish separated the two upon arrival. Spears allegedly told John’s mother that his footage had been deleted, but in 2018 the lawsuit alleges that the family became aware that a sketch had been made and, in fact, was still online. In the video, titled “The Mind of a Pedophile” and published on the site Funny or Die and elsewhere, Haddish plays the 7-year-old’s mother and leaves him with a pedophilic babysitter played by Spears. The children’s mother was horrified; Funny or Die called it “absolutely disgusting” and said it was uploaded as user-generated content, and that they removed it as soon as they learned of its existence.

The Daily Beast has viewed a recording of the video, in which John spends most of his time clad only in underwear while Spears leers at him and, at one point, applies baby oil to the child’s body. By the end of the video, John is seen rubbing baby oil on his shirtless babysitter’s shoulder. The lawsuit claims that John still places bandages over the cameras of his electronics out of fear of being recorded and quotes a testimony he wrote in therapy that states his experience during the shoot “fucked me up bad.” Jane’s letter alleges that the original video, with sound, includes R Kelly’s song “Bump n’ Grind” playing in the background.

Jane’s lawsuit accuses both comedians of intentional infliction of emotional distress, gross negligence, sexual battery, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse of a minor, and Haddish is further accused of negligent supervision/failure to warn, breach of fiduciary duty, and constructive fraud. She is seeking general and special damages, as well as “any appropriate statutory damages.”

In the statement from John’s therapy cited in the lawsuit, the now 15-year-old writes, “I don’t got no friends, I don’t trust nobody, I’m scared of adults, I refuse to be recorded or take pictures because I am scared of weird-ass adults trying to do nasty stuff to me again. I spend all of my time in my room and do not go anywhere because I don’t trust anybody.”

Tiffany Haddish Responds to Child Sexual Abuse Lawsuit, Regrets Sketch

Tiffany Haddish has spoken out in response to the child sexual abuse lawsuit that was filed against her and comedian Aries Spears.

“I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I’m right there with you,” Haddish wrote on Instagram. “Unfortunately because there is an ongoing legal case, there’s very little that I can say right now. But, clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all — and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.”

Filed last week by an anonymous woman, the lawsuit alleges that Haddish and Spears exploited Jane Doe, now 22, and her brother John Doe, now 14, in two comedy sketches filmed when they were children.

In one clip titled “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes,” Spears’ character plays a pedophile lusting after John Doe, who was 7 years old at the time, according to the lawsuit. Haddish plays the boy’s mother, who leaves her child with the man. According to The Daily Beast, “John [Doe] spends most of the video clad only in his underwear as Spears’ character leers at him through two holes cut into a newspaper he pretends to read. During the sketch, the camera zooms in suggestively on the 7-year-old’s buttocks and crotch while he plays. Spears sprays baby oil onto the child’s back and massages it into his shoulders in one scene, and at another point the child plays with a train in a manner that suggests phallic masturbation. In another sequence, Spears smokes a cigarette while observing the child nude in a bathtub and pours water on his feet.”

The video ends with text that reads: “Watch who you leave your kids with.” Funny or Die, where Spears originally uploaded the video, removed the clip in 2018 and told The Daily Beast it was “absolutely disgusting.”

Haddish’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, said in a statement to Vanity Fair that the plaintiff’s mother, Trizah Morris, has “been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years.”

Brettler continued: “Every attorney who has initially taken on her case — and there were several — ultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless and Ms. Haddish would not be shaken down. Now, Ms. Morris has her adult daughter representing herself in this lawsuit. The two of them will together face the consequences of pursuing this frivolous action.”

Tiffany Haddish Says She Deeply Regrets Acting in “Through A Pedophile’s Eyes” Sketch – The Hollywood Reporter

Tiffany Haddish says she deeply regrets acting in an old sketch with Aries Spears that has sparked a wave of criticism following a lawsuit from an anonymous woman who accused the comedians of exploiting her and her brother in sexually charged video skits when they were children.

“I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I’m right there with you. Unfortunately, because there is an ongoing legal case, there’s very little that I can say right now,” she posted on social media. “But, clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all – and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.”

Haddish and Spears were sued on Aug. 30 by a self-represented Jane Doe. The complaint alleges the woman and her younger brother were duped into participating in the skits as kids. The video featuring the brother, who according to the complaint was 7 at the time and was filmed in his underwear, was called “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes.” The clip showed Spears’ character lusting after the boy to the soundtrack of R. Kelly’s “Bump and Grind,” and ends with the boy showing an interest in the man and the warning “watch who you leave your kids with.” Haddish is featured as the mom who repeatedly leaves her son alone with Spears for various reasons. Funny or Die, where the comedians’ video had been posted, said it was removed in 2018 and called it “absolutely disgusting.”

In response to the suit, Haddish’s attorney Andrew Brettler called the claims “bogus” and said Doe’s mother had been trying to bring them for years.

“Every attorney who has initially taken on her case — and there were several — ultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless and Ms. Haddish would not be shaken down,” Brettler said. “Now, [her] adult daughter representing herself in this lawsuit. The two of them will together face the consequences of pursuing this frivolous action.”

The news comes as Haddish, a longtime comic whose career exploded with the 2017 release of Girls Trip, continues to be an in-demand star. She is a lead of Apple’s The Afterparty, which has been renewed for a second season, and the animated series Tuca & Bertie for Adult Swim. Her next film project is Haunted Mansion for family-friendly Disney; she’s expected to promote it at the company’s upcoming D23 fan expo. If and how Haddish’s current and future projects will be impacted remains to be seen.

Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears reps call child sexual abuse suit a ‘shakedown’

The complainants are referred to as “Jane Doe” and “John Doe” in the suit, which states their names are being withheld to protect their privacy.

According to the complaint, a copy of which was obtained by CNN, “Jane Doe” and “John Doe” were 14 and 7, respectively, when they allege that Haddish and Spears had them participate in sexually suggestive videos in separate incidents in 2013 and 2014.

When reached for comment by CNN, attorneys for Haddish and Spears called the allegations “bogus” and a “shakedown,” respectively.

According to the complaint, Haddish was a “longtime family friend” of the mother of the siblings who filed the lawsuit.

“Jane Doe” was enrolled in a comedy camp in 2013, where Haddish was a guest speaker and told the then-teen girl “she had a perfect role for her,” the complaint states.

The star allegedly drove the girl to a studio where she and Spears showed her a video of “an older man and a college-age woman” eating a sandwich simultaneously from either end, while “moaning and making sexual noises as they both ate the sandwich in a manner that simulated the act of fellatio.”

“Spears then told Plaintiff Jane Doe that he wanted her to mimic what she had seen on the screen, including the noises precisely like what she heard throughout the video,” the suit states. “Plaintiff Jane Doe, nervous and disgusted, didn’t say anything until Haddish came into the room next to her and sat down. Haddish verbally explained what was expected of Plaintiff Jane Doe and then showed Plaintiff Jane Doe how to give fellatio, including movements, noises, moaning, and groaning.”

“Physically, emotionally, and mentally uncomfortable, Plaintiff Jane Doe mimicked the acts that Haddish and Spears wanted her to do so she could go home,” the complaint continues.

Haddish allegedly then paid her $100 and sent her home, according to the complaint.

“John Doe” alleges that in summer 2014, Haddish “offered to book, arrange, and film Mr. Doe content for a Nickelodeon sizzle reel at the home of Spears. Haddish claimed the reel would be used to book Mr. Doe on Nickelodeon.”

“Upon information and belief, Haddish and Spears removed the 7-year-old victim from his sister, placed him upstairs in a bedroom, and stripped the child down to his underwear,” according to the suit. “The video was entitled ‘Through A Pedophiles Eyes’ and shows Spears lusting over the 7-year-old child” and rubbing his back.

Haddish was present during the filming of the entire video, the complaint states.

Photos allegedly from the video shoot are included in the complaint.

An attorney for Haddish said in a statement to CNN that the plaintiff’s mother “has been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years.”

“Every attorney who has initially taken on her case — and there were several — ultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless and Ms. Haddish would not be shaken down,” the statement read, adding that the mother “has her adult daughter representing herself in this lawsuit. The two of them will together face the consequences of pursuing this frivolous action.”

The mother of the plaintiffs is named in the statement. CNN is not including her name in our reporting to protect the privacy of her then-minor children. Jane Doe is now 22 and the legal guardian of John Doe, now 15, according to the complaint.

“He isn’t going to fall for any shakedown,” Debra Opri, an attorney for Spears, said in a statement to CNN.

Tiffany Haddish And Aries Spears Face Child Sexual Abuse Allegations

The two alleged victims are the children of one of Haddish’s former friends, according to the lawsuit.

The complaint alleges that Haddish brought Jane Doe to a Hollywood studio to film a “sexually suggestive” video in which the comedians asked her to watch a video featuring a group of women eating a sandwich and “moaning and making sexual noises as they both ate the sandwich in a manner that simulated the act of fellatio.”

The plaintiff alleges that Spears then told Jane Doe that he wanted her to mimic what she had seen on the screen, “including the noises precisely like what she had heard throughout the video.” Haddish then allegedly showed Jane Doe how to give fellatio “including movements, noises, moaning and groaning.”

“Haddish forced a 14-year-old victim to perform simulated fellatio to record commercial sex acts and the production of child pornography,” the lawsuit states.

When the scene was over, the plaintiff alleges that Haddish paid her $100 and sent her home. The plaintiff never spoke out about the experience.

A year later, in 2014, Haddish reached out to the mother about filming another video, this time with her 7-year-old son, John Doe. The video was a comedy skit titled “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes.”

The lawsuit alleges John was stripped “down to his underwear” and that the video shows Spears “lusting over the 7-year-old child and molesting him throughout the video.” The plaintiffs also allege that Haddish was present during the filming of the video.

Once filming ended, the lawsuit states that John “called his mother crying, saying he did not want to film anymore.”

The mother said that she was never aware of what had been filmed until four years later in 2018 when she received an alert from celebrity news site Bossip, which referenced the video, “Mind of a Pedophile,” that featured John.

Initially, the lawsuit alleges that Haddish denied knowledge of the video, but then said the footage was just “dark comedy.”

Since the incident, plaintiff Jane Doe, now 22, claims that the trauma has prevented her from dating because “she is scared that she will be taken advantage of and led down a path of false trust,” the lawsuit states.

As for John, the lawsuit claims that he has “developed a social disorder, depression and anxiety,” that he lives in fear of being watched and recorded.

The lawsuit also alleges that in July 2018, the mother of the plaintiffs attempted to engage in a settlement with Spears concerning the video of John. The settlement, according to the lawsuit, stated that in exchange for $15,000, Plaintiff’s mother was to “indemnify or settle out with Spears for what he did to Mr. Doe.”

The plaintiffs are alleging that the settlement agreement “has no binding legal effect,” as Haddish was not identified as a party. The complaint alleges that Haddish “insinuated she wanted no part of the Spears settlement agreement via text.”

The complaint also alleges that the siblings had no guardian present to represent their interests as minors at the time.

The plaintiffs are pursuing damages and have submitted a demand for a jury trial.
