Trump news latest: Don Jr, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Ray Epps, Stephanie Grisham Jan 6 transcripts released

January 6 panel unveils report, describes Trump ‘conspiracy’

The January 6 House select committee investigating Donald Trump’s role in the 2021 Capitol riot has released another batch of interview and deposition transcripts.

Included in the latest release are some big names from Trumpworld, including Donald Trump Jr, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Stephen Miller.

There are also White House insiders that turned against Trump including Stephanie Grisham and Alyssa Farah Griffin, as well as other key figures including Washington DC mayor Muriel Bowser and Steven Sund of the Capitol Police.

Also published was the interview with Ray Epps, a Trump supporter who marched on the Capitol and was accused of working for the FBI by rightwing conspiracists after he was filmed trying to calm the crowd.

Upon the new Congress taking office on 3 January, the committee will be dissolved. It published its full report before Christmas.

Tomorrow, Mr Trump’s finances will be under the spotlight when the House Ways and Means Committee is expected to release the former president’s tax returns.

Trump’s recycles accusations in latest attack on FBI

Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday morning to launch a new attack against the FBI – citing many of his favourite baseless claims.

He wrote: “So, if the FBI illegally suppressed all of the really bad information on the Biden family (laptop!) at a level never seen before, (“it was Russian disinformation,” they said), while at the same time not letting the many positive things accomplished by “Trump” get out to the public, but would instead put out “bad stuff,” that would be the very definition of the Government’s RIGGING of an Election. Pollsters projected this Scam made a difference of Millions of votes. What are the CONSEQUENCES?”

How do you contact a president? What about during an emergency?

Even in the age of smartphones, apparently, you still call the operator, even if the president is your father.

Failing that or in an emergency such as a violent assault on Congress, you text the chief of staff as Donald Trump Jr told the January 6 committee — in this case, Mark Meadows.

Mr Trump told the panel that he texted Mr Meadows telling him that his father need to “condemn this s***” as the Capitol was attacked.

White House tells GOP to hold their horses on oversight requests

The White House has warned top Republicans who will chair the House Oversight and Judiciary committees that they will have to renew any requests for documents or other oversight requests once the GOP formally takes control of the chamber at the start of the 118th Congress next week.

The Independent obtained letters to Representatives James Comer and Jim Jordan — the incoming chairmen of both committees — from Special Counsel to the President Richard Sauber, in which the White House lawyer said the flurry of demands for documents made by the GOP during the 117th Congress carry no legal or constitutional weight because of longstanding executive branch policy which requires such requests to come from the House majority.

Andrew Feinberg reports from Washington, DC.

‘Stop the steal’ organiser pushes blame onto far-right allies during Jan 6 testimony, transcript reveals

The organizer of the rally that preceded the Capitol riot reportedly threw his MAGA-world peer Charlie Kirk to the wolves during a meeting with the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot.

Ali Alexander, who organised “Stop the Steal,” told the House Select Committee during a closed-door deposition last year that right-wing media figure and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was among those at fault for the riot.

Ray Epps told committee about impact of conspiracy theory on his family

Ray Epps, a Trump supporter and retired US Marine who found himself at the centre of a conspiracy theory that he was an undercover federal agent at the Capitol on January 6 to incite a false flag operation, told the committee about the impact of those accusations on his family.

He said he was saddened that leaders he respected tried to ride the baseless accusations for their own gain and that his family has been the subject of death threats and his business has suffered.

Padres vs. Dodgers score, takeaways: San Diego grabs NLDS lead as bullpen, Trent Grisham help take down L.A.

In the San Diego Padres’ first home playoff game with fans since 2006, the hosts gave the crowd a thrill as the Padres edged the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 2-1. With the win in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, the Padres took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. That means the Padres are one win from eliminating the Dodgers, who won a franchise-record 111 games during the regular season.

Padres starter Blake Snell gutted out 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball, and the San Diego bullpen continued to put zeroes on the board. On offense, Trent Grisham hit his third home run of the 2022 postseason.

The winner of this series will advance to the NLCS to face the winner of the Philadelphia Phillies-Atlanta Braves NLDS.

Now, for takeaways from Game 3.

Tony Gonsolin wasn’t able to give the Dodgers much

Thanks to a forearm injury, Gonsolin missed more than a month down the stretch and only returned in time to make an abbreviated start against the Rockies on Oct. 3. In Game 3 on Friday night, he wasn’t himself. The command was badly lacking, and Gonsolin’s fastball velocity was down a tick or so (just as it was against Colorado in his last start). He endured a 31-pitch first inning, and Dave Roberts was moved to get Andrew Heaney warming up in that first frame. Things could have gotten worse in the second, but Gonsolin was able to escape disaster thanks in part to a Jurickson Profar bunt attempt gone wrong.

Roberts had a leash of 75 pitches or so planned for Gonsolin in Game 3, but he was able to last for just 42 pitches and 1 1/3 innings. Over that span he allowed one run on four hits with one strikeout and one walk. Through the first two games of this series, the Dodgers dialed up eight relief appearances and eight relief innings. Even with the off day before Game 3 and the first-round bye, the L.A. pen is racking up some recent miles. That trend continued on Friday.

The Padres’ bullpen has been nails

Through the first two games of this series, the San Diego bullpen put up these digits: 9 1/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 9 SO, 4 BB. Then in the crucial Game 3, that same pen was tasked with protecting a one-run lead for 11 outs – including Nick Martinez in the sixth inheriting a runner in scoring position with one out. Once again, the San Diego relief corps rose to the challenge and did so against one of the best offenses in MLB. Now for those updated numbers for the NLDS: 13 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 15 SO, 4 BB.

Trent Grisham continued with his postseason fireworks

Pads center fielder and No. 8 hitter Trent Grisham endured a pretty rough regular season at the plate, but he was huge in the Wild Card Series upset over the Mets, as he homered twice in three games. Through the first two games of the NLDS against the Dodgers, Grisham didn’t do much, but he rediscovered his first-round power strike in the fourth inning of Game 3:

That one off Andrew Heaney left the bat at 109.8 mph and traveled 389 feet. That third home run of the 2022 postseason – through just six games played – put Grisham in elite franchise company:

At minimum, he’ll have at least two more games to tie or break Jim Leyritz’s record. Most important is that the Padres probably wouldn’t be in their current situation without Grisham’s October power surge.

The Dodgers again struggled with runners in scoring position

The Dodgers on Friday night came up empty in RISP situations for a second straight game. In Game 3, they went 0 for 9 with RISP, and that means they’re now 0 for their last 19 in such spots. Suffice it to say, the Dodgers are a couple of timely hits away from this series being very different.

History favors the Padres

Not surprisingly, the Padres are in a good position being up 2-1 in a best-of-five series. In the history of the best-of-five League Division Series, a team has taken a 2-1 lead in the series 67 times, and 49 of those teams up 2-1 went on to win the series. Framed another way, just 26.9 percent of teams down 2-1 in the LDS have come back to win said LDS.

For the Dodgers, the first step toward defying the odds and history comes in Game 4 on Saturday. Tyler Anderson goes for L.A. against Joe Musgrove, and first pitch is scheduled for 9:07 p.m. ET back at Petco Park in San Diego. Shortstop Trea Turner may be a game-time decision for the Dodgers. He injured his fingers in Game 3 while diving back to first base on a pick-off attempt. X-rays were negative.

Ex-Trump staff discussing ways to stop him, former spokeswoman Grisham says

Stephanie Grisham, former White House Press Secretary under former President Donald Trump, arrives for a meeting at the O’Neill House office building with the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol on the eve of the first anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack in Washington, U.S., January 5, 2022. WASHINGTON, Jan 6 (Reuters) – Former White House aide Stephanie Grisham, a one-time loyalist but now sharp critic of former President Donald Trump, said on Thursday she is planning talks next week with ex-Trump staffers to discuss working against him in the next round of elections.

In interviews with CNN and Reuters, Grisham said she was compiling a group that so far includes about 15 former Trump White House staff. They include Olivia Troye, a former national security aide to former Vice President Mike Pence, and Anthony Scaramucci, a New York businessman who had a brief stint as Trump’s communications director, she told Reuters.

What influence the group could have is unclear. Trump is supporting a handpicked group of Republican loyalists for seats in the November 2022 congressional elections and pondering another run for the White House in 2024.

More than half of Republicans believe the election was “stolen” from Trump, despite the lack of any evidence, Reuters polling shows.

“I can say that next week, a group of former Trump staff are going to come together, administration officials are going to come together, and we’re going to talk about how we can formally do some things to try and stop him, and also the extremism, that kind of violence and rhetoric that has been talked about and continues to divide our country,” Grisham told CNN.

Grisham testified on Wednesday night before the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. She did not elaborate on her testimony.

Grisham resigned as Melania Trump’s chief of staff on the night of Jan. 6, 2021, after Trump’s refusal to work to halt the protesters’ attack on the Capitol that day. She had also been White House press secretary for a year.

Even if no criminal charges are brought against Trump, Grisham said, the committee “is going to show you know, irrefutable proof that he was behind this.”

Grisham released a tell-all book last year that criticized Trump and his entourage, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now: What I Saw at the Trump White House.”

Exclusive: Stephanie Grisham says ‘I regret’ enabling culture of dishonesty in Trump White House

In an exclusive interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, Stephanie Grisham, one of former President Donald Trump’s most senior and longest-serving advisers, said she regrets enabling a culture of dishonesty at the White House.

“You are talking about this cultural culture of casual dishonesty at the White House, so you were, as press secretary, even if you weren’t getting briefings, enabling that culture, weren’t you?” Stephanopoulos asked Grisham on Good Morning America Monday morning.

Grisham, whose new tell-all book “I’ll Take Your Questions Now” is out this week, responded, “Yes, I was. And I’ve reflected on that and I regret that. Especially now when watching him, and so many people, push the false election narrative. I now want to, in whatever way I can, educate the public about the behaviors within the White House because it does look like he’s going to try to run in 2024.”

Stephanopoulos challenged Grisham, who served nearly the entire four-year term in the Trump White House before resigning after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, asking, “but you stayed until the final two weeks … what took you so long?”

“Yes, that’s a fair question and it’s a complicated question,” Grisham responded, adding that she was at first drawn to Trump’s ability to attract large crowds and his support among Republicans. But she said that when she joined the West Wing, she “started to see what it was really like and I regretted that decision immediately.”

The former president has forcefully responded to the latest tell-all book by a former close ally, with Melania Trump’s office saying in a statement, “The author is desperately trying to rehabilitate her tarnished reputation by manipulating and distorting the truth about Mrs. Trump. Ms. Grisham is a deceitful and troubled individual who doesn’t deserve anyone’s trust.”

Grisham, who also told Stephanopoulos it was the former president who told her not to hold briefings during her time in the role, said she is unsure if she could have done more to protect a young female staffer who she writes in her new book Trump had developed a “unusual interest” in and had “behaved inappropriately” toward.

“Should you have done more to protect her?” Stephanopoulos pressed.

Grisham responded, “I don’t know if I could have, there’s, there’s not an HR department at the White House,” before Stephanopoulos pushed back and suggested she could have brought the issue to White House chief of staff.

“I didn’t feel comfortable talking to Mark Meadows,” Grisham responded. “I don’t believe he would have done anything. So I did the best I could, in terms of never letting her be alone with him in the cabin. I tried to keep her off trips as often as I could. I did the best I could, I think, in that environment.”

Another major theme in the book is the former president’s infatuation with world dictators. Grisham recalls how the former president tried to cozy up to Russia’s Vladimir Putin during an overseas trip for the Group of 20 summit in Osaka in 2019.

“How do you explain why the president was so placating of President Putin?” Stephanopoulos asked. Grisham said that, in her opinion, “I got the feeling that he wanted to impress dictators, I think he almost admired how tough they were.”

While other top aides resigned or were forced out, with some even speaking out against Trump while he was still in office, Grisham stood by the president throughout nearly the entirety of the Trump administration’s four-year term, through numerous controversies — and when asked on Monday by Stephanopoulos if it was a mistake to work for President Trump, she quickly replied, “Yes.”

“Why do it?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“I do believe he gave voice to a lot of people who did feel forgotten,” Grisham said. “But I think that many of us, myself included, got into that White House, and got heavy with power and … we didn’t think about serving the country anymore, it was about surviving.”

Dem New Mexico Gov. Grisham concerned with Biden’s energy agenda: ‘Doesn’t make any sense’

New Mexico Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has concerns with President Biden’s moratorium pausing oil and gas leasing on federal lands that she said “hurts New Mexico.”

Within his first week in office, Biden signed an executive order to temporarily suspend new oil and gas leases on public lands and offshore waters for drilling and fracking for 60 days.

“I’m clearly concerned that right out of the gate with very little guidance, we have an announcement to stall … a moratorium on lease applications, and the reality is: a lot of oil and gas … in the Permian [Basin] is on private land in Texas,” she said during a Wednesday event with the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.

The Delaware Basin is one component of the Permian Basin — the largest oil basin in the U.S. — located partially in the southeastern area of New Mexico.

More than 60% of New Mexico’s oil and gas production is on federal land while 55% of state wells are located on federal land, according to the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD).

ALASKA WAS ‘OPENLY’ TARGETED BY BIDEN ORDER, MURKOWSKI CLAIMS

More than 50 gas companies produce more than a million barrels per day from the Delaware, supporting about 18,000 jobs and helping to produce millions in tax revenue for the state, Forbes reported in January. The New Mexico Legislative Finance Committee confirmed to Fox News that 18,000 is a “fair estimate.”

Twenty-four wells located in the Delaware, about half of which is federal land, produced more than 500,000 barrels of gas in 2020, Forbes reported.

BIDEN’S BAN ON OIL AND GAS LEASES ON FEDERAL LANDS A ‘DIRECT ATTACK’ ON WYOMING, SAYS GOVERNOR

Grisham continued: “So, wherever you are — wherever you are in the country or on the chamber, however you feel about that — you can simply just move, and that just hurts New Mexico, and there are no environmental standards there.”

She added that her administration has “initiated both conversations and a pretty strongly worded letter that this doesn’t make any sense.”

“The last issue is: It’s an economic problem for the state, but rather, it’s also a message to states to not do anything and wait for you to do it, and you’re not going to get as far as fast. If you’re looking for innovation [in] environmental policy, you’re going to stall that,” the governor said.

Biden’s moratorium is an effort to combat climate change in the U.S. The White House did not immediately respond to an inquiry from Fox News.
