Grenade launcher gifted by Ukraine wounds Polish police chief | Russia-Ukraine war News

Polish police chief says the explosion that wounded him last week was caused by grenade launcher – a gift from Ukraine.

Poland’s police chief has said the explosion that left him hospitalised last week was caused by a grenade launcher he had received as a gift from Ukraine.

Jaroslaw Szymczyk’s comments to a local radio station on Saturday are the first to reveal details about the explosion that took place at his office in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Poland’s interior ministry, which announced the incident last week, had not confirmed media reports that the explosion had been caused by a grenade launcher.

Szymczyk told Poland’s RMF FM radio station he had received two used grenade launchers as gifts during a visit to Ukraine and that one of them had been turned into a loudspeaker.

“When I was moving the used grenade launchers, which were gifts from the Ukrainians, there was an explosion,” Szymczyk told the private broadcaster.

He said he was moving the launchers into an upright position at the time when the blast occurred.

“The blast was intense. The force of the shot punctured the floor and damaged the ceiling,” he said.

RMF cited a source from the Polish delegation that visited Ukraine as saying the police chief had received the two launchers from officials as presents during visits to the Ukrainian police and emergency services on December 11 and 12.

Ukrainian officials had assured the Polish delegation the launchers were not loaded, the source told RMF.

The Polish delegation took them back to Warsaw by car before leaving them in the back room of Szymczyk’s office, RMF reported.

The explosion left Szymczyk hospitalised with minor injuries but he has since been discharged.

A civilian employee of the Polish police also suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalisation.

There was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian police or the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Polish authorities are now investigating the incident.

Exploding grenade launcher a gift from Ukraine, Polish police chief says

WARSAW (Reuters) – Poland’s top policeman said that an explosion in his office was caused by a grenade launcher, telling private broadcaster RMF FM that he had received two of the weapons as a gift from Ukraine.

Poland’s interior ministry and prosecutor’s office had not previously confirmed media reports that the explosion on Wednesday, at police headquarters in Warsaw, was caused by a grenade launcher.

Prosecutors said they were investigating the blast, which resulted in Police Commander in Chief Jaroslaw Szymczyk being taken to hospital.

“When I was moving the used grenade launchers, which were gifts from the Ukrainians, there was an explosion,” Szymczyk told RMF FM.

He said he was moving the launchers into an upright position at the time.

RMF cited a source from a Polish delegation that visited Ukraine as saying Szymczyk had received two launchers from officials as presents during visits to the police and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The officials had assured the Polish delegation that the launchers were not loaded, and the delegation took them back to Warsaw by car before leaving them in the back room of Szymczyk’s office, the source told RMF.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm this version of events. Ukrainian police and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A Polish police spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Szymczyk has been criticised over the incident, with commentators with backgrounds in the security services cited by Polish media as saying that military equipment should not have been taken into Poland from outside the European Union or taken into an office.

Police chief fired grenade launcher given as gift by Ukraine, Polish media reports | Poland

Polish prosecutors are investigating a “violent release of energy” at the national police headquarters amid media reports that the chief of police fired a grenade launcher in his office.

Poland’s interior ministry said on Thursday that Jarosław Szymczyk, the police commander in chief, was injured and taken to hospital when a present he received during a visit to Ukraine exploded at police headquarters in Warsaw.

Polish media reported that the present was a grenade launcher and that Szymczyk himself had accidentally fired it in his office, in what would be a serious breach of safety regulations.

In a statement, published on Thursday, a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office said it was investigating “an act consisting of unintentionally causing a violent release of energy that threatened the life or health of many people or property”.

The statement said three people, including Szymczyk, were considered victims, without giving details of possible injuries.

Polish media reported that the blast had damaged a ceiling in the building.

A police spokesperson and a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office both declined to comment further on the issue.

There was no reply from Ukraine’s SBU security service to a Reuters request for comment after they were contacted on Thursday.

Destiny 2 Makes Grenade Launchers Too Powerful, Disables Them

Image: Bungie

Season of Plunder is off to a fun but rocky start, and there’s no better example of that then Destiny 2‘s heavy grenade launchers. Almost all of them have been temporarily disabled just a day into the new update after a glitch was discovered that was making them output more than double their normal damage. The move comes just ahead of the community race for the returning King’s Fall raid on Friday.

Destiny players like Aztecross and others started to notice the glitch soon after Season 18 went live. Grenade launchers were buffed in the latest patch, but some were doing way more damage then the 10 percent that was promised. The Exotic heavy grenade launcher Anarchy and a few others were instead doing 150 percent or more. As a result, some of the game’s weakest legendary weapons suddenly became among its strongest.

Here’s Aztecross’ video breaking it down:

I’ll be honest, I had a lot of fun messing around with my Tarnation with chain reaction during Ketchcrash runs for exactly this reason. Guns I wouldn’t normally touch were suddenly bringing down yellow bars in a single shot. It felt…nice. But it also was never going to last. The massive damage glitch would have obviously thrown a wrench in the King’s Fall raid race scheduled for Friday, so in order to prevent that Bungie has instead disabled almost every heavy grenade launcher in the game until the next hotfix.

It’s a pretty drastic measure and while understandable it still kind of sucks. Normally, a single weapon or piece of gear might be disabled if something’s not working as intended. That’s what Bungie did yesterday with the Icefall Mantle Exotic Titan gauntlets. One player discovered shortly after Season 18 went live that they could combine it with Titans’ new Arc 3.0 thruster dash to initiate an infinite super glitch. Not surprisingly, Bungie took it offline. Now, however, it’s an entire weapon archetype that’s being put in time out. Hopefully not for too long.

It’s far from the only glitch so far this season. There have also been a number of issues around new activities properly recording progress and awarding currency. In those cases, Bungie is recommending players wait until the timer returns them to orbit before leaving and activity. In addition, if you won’t earn new map fragments if there isn’t room in your inventory. Rather than go to the postmaster they’ll never appear in the first place. I learned that one the hard way.

If you want to experience these triumphs and travails for yourself, Destiny 2 and all of its expansions are currently free for the next week on PC and console.

Ukrainian Mother Says Russian Soldiers Left Grenade in Daughter’s Piano

  • A Ukrainian family said they found a bomb in their daughter’s piano after returning to their Bucha home.
  • Bucha, which was occupied by Russians in March, has been home to some of the war’s worst atrocities.
  • Tetyana Monko told Insider that the war is a “real genocide,” but believes Ukraine will defeat Russia.

A Ukrainian family who returned to their plundered home in Bucha following the departure of Russian forces earlier this year discovered what could have been a deadly surprise left behind by enemy soldiers.

When Russian troops descended upon Bucha in late February, Tatiana Monko and her husband were forced to take their two young children and flee, Monko told The Claquers, a Ukrainian arts publication. The family headed for central Ukraine, unsure of when, or if, they would be able to return home.

“As for the war, we feel devastated, because this vile treacherous attack by the Russians has ruined our lives,” Tatiana Monko told Insider.

Bucha, located to the immediate east of Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv, became the site of devastation and destruction as Russian forces laid siege to the city in a violent occupation that lasted through the month of March. Early evidence from the ransacked city suggests hundreds of civilians were killed during Russia’s occupation.

The Russians withdrew from the city in late March, leaving behind a trail of alleged war crimes and thousands of unexploded mines and missiles, according to officials.

“We raised our children in peace and love, and we do not understand how in today’s world Russia can do such horrible things while the whole world is watching,” Monko said.

When Monko and her family finally returned home, they said they discovered their apartment had been occupied by Russian soldiers who left the residence in shambles. Monko told The Claquers that the troops had trampled on traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts in the home, tore down a poster in their daughter’s bedroom, and stolen an accordion belonging to the young girl.

Ukrainian military officials came by to check the home for any explosives, Monko told the outlet. They searched the entire apartment twice — including a piano belonging to Monko’s daughter, Dashunya — but found nothing.

The instrument, which sits center stage in the Monkos’ home, was a favorite among the young girl’s musical collection, her mother told The Claquers. Before the war came to Ukraine, Monko said her daughter was a dedicated piano student who competed in regional chess tournaments and booked cameo roles on TV series.

An array of awards Dashunya has won throughout the years sit proudly displayed atop her piano.

After the Ukrainian troops completed their inspection of the home, Monko said she approached the piano and began playing through all the white keys from left to right. When she reached the middle of the instrument, the keys no longer pressed down.

“I tell my husband, ‘there is something there.’ We had suspicions about them planting bombs before — my husband mentioned that the awards on the shelf were placed in the wrong order,” Monko told The Claquers.

When the military inspectors returned at her request, they discovered and removed a VOG-25P grenade launcher round from Dashunya’s piano.

“This photo symbolizes the ugliness of those who attacked us,” Monko told Insider. “And…not only the leaders of their state, because it was done by ordinary people who enjoy the murders of Ukrainians. This is a real genocide.”

“It is horrible that the world is trying to bargain with Russia, not realizing that their price is our lives. This act — that they left an explosive for a talented child — it speaks for itself,” she added.

But despite the devastation of her country, Monko remains confident that Ukraine will prevail.

“This war is for our right to live on our land,” she said. “That is what we are fighting for today…And in the end, we will win!”
