“Denzel [Washington], He Grabbed Me Up”: After Slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, Will Smith Makes Honest Admission About Last 6 Months in Front of Former NBA Stars
Will Smith made an appearance on the latest episode of former NBA Stars Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes’ All the Smoke podcast. In the episode, the trio discusses Smith’s new movie, life in general, and of course the infamous Oscar incident. While talking about the same, Will Smith made an honest admission that involved 2-time Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington. This admission left the two former NBA stars in awe of the greatness of the Hollywood superstar.

Six months ago, during the Oscars, Will Smith walked up to the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock. The incident transpired after Chris Rock had made a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. While the 2021 Academy Award winner is now banned from the Oscars for ten years, he has apologized to Chris Rock for his actions.

Having said that, Smith received support from NBA champion Stephen Jackson on the issue. Jackson claimed that he understood the intention behind Smith’s actions. Subsequently, Smith opened up about the role Denzel Washington has played in his life for the past six months.
Will Smith opens up to former NBA stars about support from Denzel Washington
During the Oscars, after the slap, video footage showed that Denzel Washington pulled Will Smith to the side and whispered something in his ears. He said, “In your highest moments, be careful; that’s when the devil comes for you.” Right after this, the duo with actor Tyler Perry quickly prayed to settle the tense emotions in Smith.
Since then, Denzel has been a big supportive force in Will Smith’s life. During the podcast, Smith admitted that Denzel has been a real friend to him during this tumultuous time. He said, “Denzel grabbed me up in these last six months. He’s real real.” Matt Barnes added, “you leaned on him, love that for you.”

The duo then asked Smith a question. They said, “If you could see one guest on our show, who would it be?” However, Jackson stated that there was a catch involved. The catch was that Smith had to help them get this guest on their show. After thinking for a few seconds, the veteran actor asked them if Denzel Washington had been on the show before. The two hosts went gaga-gaga over this statement.
All they managed to say for a few seconds was, “wow, oh wow.” Stephen Jackson then proceeded to yell, “Shut the front door.” This sent everyone on air into a fit of laughter.

Baidu claims its robotaxis have grabbed 10% of a ride-hailing market
Chinese tech giant Baidu’s robotaxis have grabbed about 10% of the ride-hailing market in a Beijing suburb, the company said Tuesday

BEIJING — In less than two years, Chinese tech giant Baidu’s robotaxis have grabbed about 10% of the ride-hailing market in a suburb of Beijing city, the company said during an earnings call Tuesday.
Baidu’s U.S.-traded shares fell 6.5% overnight to $137.69 each. Shares are down by more than 7% for the year so far.
The Chinese company said it has more than 100 robotaxis operating in the suburb, with each vehicle running more than 20 trips a day on average. Local rules require human staff to sit in the vehicle with passengers.
In Beijing, Baidu cannot yet operate its robotaxi business on public roads in the central part of the city. According to information from the company, the only part of Beijing where Baidu can charge fares for rides on public roads is in a suburb called Yizhuang.
The region is roughly a 30-minute drive south from the center of China’s capital city. The area is home to many corporations including e-commerce giant JD.com’s headquarters.
Baidu began offering free robotaxi rides in Yizhuang in October 2020, and received approval to collect fares in November 2021.
However, CNBC checks of the Baidu robotaxi app have showed rides remain heavily subsidized, even as of Wednesday.
A half-hour trip from JD.com’s headquarters to a residential area within Yizhuang displayed a fare of 5.36 yuan (79 cents) — and a 48.24 yuan discount.
A check of start-up Pony.ai’s robotaxi app showed the fare for the same route was completely subsidized. Pony.ai received approval to charge fares for its robotaxis in Yizhuang around the same time that Baidu did.
Baidu’s robotaxi business, branded Apollo Go, operates in more than ten cities in China. Apollo Go can charge fares in seven of those cities, the company said.
In Tuesday’s earnings release, Baidu said it ran 287,000 public robotaxi rides in the second quarter, up 46% from the first quarter.
Of that second quarter total, robotaxi rides in Yizhuang accounted for more than 60%, according to CNBC’s calculations.
Jan 6 surprise hearing latest: Trump grabbed steering wheel and attacked Secret Service agent, Cassidy Hutchinson testifies
‘The lie hasn’t gone away’: Jan 6 committee chairman says Trump threat to elections is ongoing
Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows’s top aide Cassidy Hutchinson has testified before the committee investigating the 6 January attacks at the Capitol.
She told the committee that the president said, “I don’t f***ing care that they have weapons,” when he was warned his supporters were heavily armed in the moments before he encouraged them to march on the Capitol.
Once the president finished speaking to throngs of supporters on January 6, he was reportedly “irate” his security staff didn’t want him to make an unplanned visit to the Capitol, so much so that he tried to grab the wheel of the presidential limousine and allegedly attacked a Secret Service agent.
Eventually, according to Ms Hutchinson’s testimony, as rioters breached the Capitol, the president nonchalantly said vice-president Mike Pence “deserves” to have extremists chanting that he should be hung for refusing to overturn the 2020 election.
The former president attacked the testimony, claiming he barely knew the “sick” Ms Hutchinson.
Donald Trump is definitely using Truth Social now…
Donald Trump strangely took days before he made his first posts on Truth Social, his pet social media app.
He’s certainly on the site now, using it to unload on witnesses who testify before the January 6 committee.

Cheney shares article arguing case for prosecuting Trump is getting stronger
Republican representative Liz Cheney, a member of the House select committee investigating the last year’s 6 January attack at the Capitol, retweeted an article that argued that the case to prosecute the former president is getting stronger after the bombshell hearing.
The article, titled “The Case for Prosecuting Donald Trump Just Got Much Stronger” from The Dispatch by David French concluded that Mr Trump may not face criminal charges for his actions but the latest testimonies have helped link the former president to violent actions in the run up to Capitol riots.

Even for Trump, this is a pretty wild story
An “irate” Doanld Trump grabbed the steering wheel of his limousine and attacked a Secret Service agent when he was told he was not being taken to the US Capitol, the January 6 committee has been told in its most stunning hearing yet.
In cool, measured tones, that were in stark contrast to the incidents she was describing, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson said she was told Mr Trump wanted to go to the Capitol so badly he attempted to grab the steering wheel of “The Beast” after being told he was going back to the White House instead.
He also grabbed at the “clavicle” of a Secert Serice agent, Ms Hutchinson testified.
Tony Ornato, then-White House deputy chief of staff, told Ms Hutchinson that Robert Engel, the Secret Service agent in charge on January 6 2021, had repeatedly told Mr Trump on their way back to the White House after his rally speech that it was not safe to go to the Capitol.
Andrew Buncombe has the details.

Watch moment when aide says Trump ‘threw his lunch against wall’
In one of the gripping scenes Cassidy Hutchinson recalled, she Mr Trump threw his lunch — including the plate it had been served on — against the wall of his private dining room. It left behind a smear of ketchup on the wall.
She said it was in reaction to former attorney general William Barr’s declaration that the presidential election had not been tainted by fraud.

Is Donald Trump trying to tamper with January 6 testimony? It sure seems like someone is.
The January 6 committee is alarmed that Donald Trump or his allies may be attempting to tamper with the testimony of witnesses participating in the congressional inquiry.
“Most Americans know that attempting to influence witnesses to testify untruthfully presents very serious concerns,” committee vice chairwoman Liz Cheney said on Tuesday.
The committee shared anonymous testimony on Tuesday from January 6 witnesses detailing mob-style threats from unnamed people inside the Trump camp.
“What they said to me is, as long as I continue to be a team player, they know that I’m on the team, I’m doing the right thing, I’m protecting who I need to protect, you know, I’ll continue to stay in good graces in Trump World,” the witness told legislators.

Aide’s explosive testimony that Trump knew of weapons could bolster civil suits
A lawyer, who is pressing a lawsuit against Donald Trump and others on behalf of 10 Democratic lawmakers said the damming testimony yesterday could give a major boost to the civil lawsuits against the former president.
“The testimony that came today I think was very powerful confirmation that Trump knew and expected the crowd that was assembled was going to engage in violent action directed at the Capitol with the intention of interfering with the ability to ratify the results of the election,” Joseph Sellers said.
He said the claims that Mr Trump was aware of weapons in the crowd were “highly relevant” to the civil suits and could make him liable for his intention of using violence and threats to force members of Congress to overturn the election.
“This evidence goes a good deal towards confirming that that was the purpose of Trump’s actions,” he added.

John Eastman dismisses bid to block phone records from Jan 6 committee
John Eastman, a lawyer linked to Donald Trump’s efforts to reverse the result of the 2020 election, has voluntarily dropped a lawsuit aimed to block the 6 January committee from obtaining his phone records.
In a filing on late Tuesday, Mr Eastman dropped the suit, saying that he has been assured by the committee that it was only to seek his call logs and not the content of the messages.
The House select committee has long said that it does not have the authority to obtain the content of the messages.
It came as he claimed the FBI stopped him outside a restaurant and seized his phone. And a new video appears to show the moment the incident occurred.

ICYMI: Cassidy Hutchinson: Who is ex-Meadows aide testifying before January 6 committee?
The star witness at Tuesday’s last-minute House January 6 select committee hearing wasn’t a top-level Trump confidante such as ex-White House Counsel Pat Cipollone or former vice president Mike Pence.
Instead, it was Cassidy Hutchinson, who ended the Trump administration as a special assistant to the president assigned as then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows’ assistant.
Here’s Andrew Feinberg’s look at the surprising star witness.

Another shocking turn (sorry) in Steering Wheelgate
One of the stranger stories from today’s January 6 hearing is that Donald Trump allegedly lunged for the wheel of a presidential limo when he was upset his staff wouldn’t take him to the Capitol.
The Secret Service has said it is cooperating with the committee to look into what happened.
However, Bobby Engel, a lead Secret Service agent protecting Donald Trump, as well as the presidential limo driver are both prepared to testify that such an incident never occured, according to NBC News.

Dutch reporter Sjoerd den Daas grabbed by Chinese guard during Winter Olympics opening ceremony
A Dutch reporter covering the Winter Olympics in Beijing was manhandled by a Chinese authority during a live shot outside the game’s opening ceremonies.
Dutch public broadcasting correspondent Sjoerd den Daas tried to finish his report while being grabbed, pushed, and yelled at by the red armband-wearing guard before the network cut away from the shot and returned to the studio anchor, a clip from the Friday broadcast showed.
“Our correspondent @sjoerddendaas was pulled away from the camera by security guards at 12.00 pm live in the NOS Journaal. Unfortunately, this is increasingly becoming a daily reality for journalists in China. He is fine and was able to finish his story a few minutes later,” the outlet tweeted in Dutch.
It was not immediately apparent why den Daas was being accosted by the guard as he filed his report outside Bird’s Nest stadium.
Widespread human rights violations and mistreatment of Chinese athletes have cast a pall over the 2022 winter games.

Beijing had ordered international athletes not to talk about China’s aggression, oppression or genocidal abuses during the games. Communist rules also banned fans and athletes from cheering and prohibited overseas spectators.
Mars Rover Perseverance Appears to Have Grabbed Its First Rock Sample
The Perseverance rover had a bit of a false start to its science campaign on Mars last month, when it appeared to have successfully collected a rock only to find its sampling tube empty. In its second coring attempt, NASA directed the rover to a different patch of rock, and images received on Earth today suggest the rover was able to core and secure a Martian rock sample from that second site. Years from now, another mission may pick up Perseverance’s samples and carry them to Earth, where scientists will be able to inspect the Martian material up close.
NASA has yet to confirm that the rover’s extraction was a success, and until they do, there’ll be a bit of uncertainty. Early on September 2, the rover’s social media team confirmed that the rock target had been successfully drilled, posting an image of the rock with a marvelous hole in the middle of it. But that’s no guarantee on its own—a similar image of a hole in the ground indicated that the first rock sample site had been cored, but no rock had actually been retained by the rover. NASA concluded that the first sample likely crumbled to dust, surprising mission scientists who expected the rock to behave differently.
For the latest attempt, we have images from the rover that show it holding up a piece of the Red Planet in its robotic vice grip. They can be compared to later images with the bit of rock absent, suggesting the sample successfully made it into the tube.
If the sampling is affirmed by NASA to be a success, the victory may lie in the constitution of the second rock. The drilled rock is part of a stretch of ridgeline nicknamed Citadelle. Citadelle sticks out of Jezero Crater, the dried-up lake bed on which the rover alighted in February. The site differs from the previous sample attempt site—the Crater Floor Fractured Rough—in that NASA scientists believe it will be a bit more robust, so it won’t break down when the rover abrades away the rock surface and cores the layer underneath.

The cores—Perseverance has room for over 30 more—are a first step toward a better understanding of Mars; if the rock samples don’t shed light on the planet’s past habitability, they will at least indicate something of the planet’s geology. NASA’s ultimate goal is return mission in the early 2030s, which will bring these tubes and their contents to Earth.
Depending on the results, Perseverance could stick around for another try at this stretch of rock or move on to its next target. Eventually, the rover is expected to sample an ancient river delta that once flowed from the lake in Jezero Crater. That’s thought to be the most likely location of stromatolite-like fossils, based on where the microbial organisms crop up on Earth.

Zendaya & Tom Holland Grabbed Date Night Thai Day Before Going Public
Shortly before Tom Holland and Zendaya were smooching in a car for the whole world to see — they were breaking bread on what appears to be a date … and TMZ’s got the photos.
Check out these pics we obtained of Spider-Man and MJ themselves playing out their onscreen romance in real life just 5 days ago … when they hit up a Thai joint near Universal Studios — on the outskirts of Central L.A. — for a little late-night snack mid-week.
Eyewitnesses tell us the newly-announced couple — who made their public debut Friday, when photos surfaced of a steamy make-out sesh from Thursday — rolled into the place around 9ish, separately at first, one after another … both wearing masks, which we’re told they removed once seated near the very front of what appeared to be a pretty empty dining room.
That worked out great for them … as it seems they were trying to maintain a somewhat low profile. Still, they got spotted by what few people were there — and it seems the cat was almost out of the bag, which may very well have prompted their loose lips the following day.
Up until now … it was only rumored Tom and Zen were an item — something they’ve constantly denied over their filming career together — but now, it’s official … the comic book movie chemistry we’ve all seen in the last two flicks is, indeed, real. Shippers can rejoice!
Anyway, as for this outing here … no word yet on what they might’ve chowed down on exactly. We’re also told they didn’t show any obvious signs of PDA in the restaurant itself — but they did appear to be engrossed in quite a stimulating conversation … which you can probably tell from Zendaya’s big hand gestures and Tom’s focused look on his boo.
Maybe they were talking about how awesome it’s gonna be when the world finally realizes Tobey Maguire AND Andrew Garfield both appear in the multi-verse sequel coming out later this year … and that Tobey hits Tom with an Uncle Ben reference that causes waterworks.
Just kidding … we don’t know that to be true whatsoever. But, we can dream, can’t we???
