14 people shot, including 3 children, in East Garfield Park. ‘It’s over by three seconds.’
Fourteen people were shot, including three children, in a drive-by shooting in East Garfield Park on the West Side Monday night, Chicago police said.
The children are 3, 11 and 13 years old, Police Supt. David Brown told reporters. All three were in serious condition. The other victims ranged in age from 31 to 56, police said.
The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. as some people gathered in the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street for a vigil and others were out for Halloween, police said. It was not known who the vigil was for.
“It’s over by three seconds,” Brown said outside Stroger Hospital, where many of the wounded were taken. “The car’s pulling out after driving by and shooting randomly into the crowd.
“We do not have any motive,” he said, adding that officers believe there were two shooters.
“We always worry about retaliation obviously, but we don’t know enough about this, whether it involved a gang conflict or some personal conflict yet, but as soon as we know we’ll share that with the public,” Brown said. “And obviously we’re deploying extra police resources in the area to make sure that we can prevent any retaliation if that’s something that’s real.”
All the victims were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from critical condition to not life-threatening, police said. A 37-year-old man and 48-year-old man were in critical condition, police said. The largest number of wounded were taken to Stroger Hospital.

A woman was struck by a car while trying to escape the shooting, police said. She was in fair condition with scrapes on her body. No one was in custody.
Brown said the shooting was captured on police surveillance video, which investigators are reviewing. Detectives are also waiting for victims to finish being treated so they can interview them.
A reward of up to $15,000 is being offered for information leading to charges or conviction. Anyone with information was asked to submit a tip to cpdtip.com.
Authorities work the scene of a mass shooting that left 14 people injured Monday night. One person was struck by a vehicle at the scene. No one was in custody late Monday.

Chicago shooting: As many as 14 people shot in Garfield Park drive-by at Polk and California, CPD says
CHICAGO (WLS) — As many as 14 people were shot in the city’s Garfield Park neighborhood on Halloween night, Chicago police said.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said the victims range in age from 3 years old to adults in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. There are three juvenile victims: the 3-year-old, an 11-year-old and a teenager who may be 13 years old. Additionally, one person was struck by a car.
Brown said the shooting was a drive-by that was over in a matter of seconds. It happened around 9:30 p.m. and was captured on POD video, which police are reviewing.
The investigation is still in its earliest stages, but Brown said preliminary information indicates there were at least two shooters seen on the video, though that number could change. They appeared to fire indiscriminately into the crowd at California and Polk.
Brown said there were several large groups at the corner, which is a popular gathering spot in the neighborhood. Some were reportedly attending a vigil that appears, at this time, to be unrelated to the shooting.
The victims were taken to several local hospitals including Northwestern Medical Center, Loyola Medical Center and Mt. Sinai, but the largest group was taken to Stroger Hospital. Brown said their conditions range from non-life threatening injuries to critical condition.
There are not yet any reported fatalities.
There is no known motive for the shooting at this time, and Brown said there were no known conflicts at the corner Monday night. Police are waiting for victims to finish being treated so they can interview them.
There is also not yet a description of the car involved or of the offender or offenders, and no one in custody, according to Brown.
The Chicago Fire Department said it had sent at least 10 ambulances to the area of California and Polk.
An investigation by the Chicago Police Department is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Chicago police, and a reward of up to $15,000 is being offered for information leading to charged and/or a conviction in this incident.

This Stray Mod Lets You Play as Garfield the Cat
Stray is an adorable new game about a cat exploring a post-apocalyptic future full of robots, and now, you can play through the whole thing as the laziest, chillest cat of them all: Garfield.
A new mod by modder Chris Rubino replaces the cat in Stray with a surprisingly believable rendition of Garfield of comics fame, right down to the lazy expression and chubby cheeks. That’s it, that’s all it does – no lasagna or Odie or Lorenzo Music voice, just the good old Garfield wandering around a robot city, fending off Zurks, and probably getting into more trouble than Garfield himself ever could at Jon Arbuckle’s house.
For me, the best part of this mod is the deep expression of total ennui on his face:
It’s no surprise that Garfield has entered Stray given that the original kitty is an orange tabby just like him, but other modders have taken it even farther already. There’s a weird mod you can add that replaces Stray’s meowing action with the sound of Heavy Rain protagonist Ethan Mars calling for his lost son. And delightfully, a number of modders are jumping on a new trend of making the cat in Stray look like their own cats at home.
Even though we reviewed a version of Stray sans Garfield, we still found it to be a “delightful cat-based adventure in a cyberpunk world worth exploring.” If you’re picking it up for the first time, there are a number of wonderfully cat-like things you can do in Stray’s world, and IGN has a full wiki guide to help you through from start to finish.
