Fox News Flips Out Over ‘Woke’ Xbox Because Everything Is Stupid

A day after M&M’s canceled their “spokescandies” amid pushback from Fox News hosts who no longer found them sexy, the conservative cable giant found its latest target for outrage: “woke” video game consoles with power-saving features.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that Xbox would offer “carbon aware game downloads and updates” as part of the company’s ongoing effort to reduce carbon emissions and help combat climate change.

“For example, instead of your Xbox waking up during the nightly maintenance window at a random time between 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m., your console will wake up at a time when it can use the most renewable energy in your local energy grid,” the company said, adding: “This decreases fossil fuel dependency and CO2 emissions, and could potentially save you money.”

But because the right-wing outrage machine constantly needs feeding, conservative media outlets and Republican politicians seized on the opportunity to proclaim this as the latest battle in a never-ending culture war.

“First gas stoves, then your coffee, now they’re gunning for your Xbox,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who seems more interested in being a right-wing entertainer than a lawmaker, tweeted on Monday. (For those blissfully unaware, conservatives have been losing their minds lately about possible future regulations on gas appliances, daring liberals to “come and take it.”)

It didn’t take long, of course, for Fox News to jump onboard the faux-rage train. Getting the ball rolling, the network’s digital newsroom published a Monday night piece promoting conservative critics who’d “slammed” the “woke brigade” for coming after video games.

During Tuesday morning’s broadcast of Fox & Friends First, Fox Business anchor Cheryl Casone grumbled that “some woke executive at Microsoft thought this was a good idea” before reading off a series of tweets from right-wing influencers mocking the initiative.

“Aware! Is that the best word?!” Fox & Friends First co-host Todd Piro exclaimed. “I’m really stuck on that language. Carbon aware?! I’ve been aware of carbon most of my adult life. It’s a very important element.”

The following hour, however, Fox News warned viewers that the Big Climate Change is coming for their kids because their video gaming system had a new power-saving function.

“Xbox has also announced that they’re going woke too because of climate change,” Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt declared. “That they are adding a new feature to their default settings. If you own an Xbox you can upload this new program, and it will turn off after so long to save the environment.”

Fox News Radio host Jimmy Failla then sounded the alarm about children being targeted by left-leaning corporations to care about the climate.

“We understand what this is,” the conservative comedian stated. “It’s not that it’s actually going to offset emissions, okay—the level of reduction is infinitesimal. But they’re trying to recruit your kids into climate politics at an earlier age; make them climate conscious now.”

“You’re right,” Earhardt agreed. “They’re going after the children.”

Not to be outdone, Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen echoed Cruz by lumping Microsoft’s decision with the rest of the right’s recent culture war grievances.

“They want to tell you how to live your life. We’re gonna say ‘No, you will not drive a gas-guzzling truck and no, you’re not gonna have a gas stove, you will have an electric stove’” he blared on Fox News’ Outnumbered. “Because every building in New York City cannot have gas anymore, right? This stuff is actually happening. If the climate radicals want to alienate Gen Z, the best way to do it is to take away their Xbox!”

Fox News Executives Hunt Down the Tucker Carlson-Kanye West Leaker

This reporting appears as one of several scooplets featured in this week’s edition of Confider, the newsletter pulling back the curtain on the media. Subscribe here and send your questions, tips, and complaints here.

Fox News executives are “full-on freaked out” about the leak of never-aired clips of Tucker Carlson’s interview with Kayne West, Confider has learned, and the network is closing in on the “mole” who was the source of the embarrassing breach.

A few weeks ago Carlson interviewed West, who now goes by the mononym Ye, and touted him as a brave truth-teller dismissed by liberal elites for his increasingly far-right beliefs and stunts like wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt to Paris Fashion Week.

Despite the Fox News celebration of West’s supposed intellectual heft, unaired snippets leaked to Vice’s Motherboard showed the rapper and fashion mogul peddling openly antisemitic tropes and bizarre claims about “fake children” being used to manipulate his kids. These more embarrassing, newsworthy remarks never made into the final broadcast of Carlson’s chat with the rapper. (The interview was also before Ye threatened online to go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE” before being banned from multiple platforms.)

Fox may be closing in on the leaker, but it’s now almost a week since Vice published the videos. This is a notable detail because in 2012, the last time the network dealt with a major video breach, it found and escorted the leaker—Bill O’Reilly’s then-associate producer Joe Muto—out of the building in less than 24 hours.

“This new leaker learned from my mistakes,” Muto told Confider. “The main reason I got caught is that I wasn’t covering my digital trail particularly well. They’re obviously doing a better job than I did if they haven’t been found yet.”

Following Muto’s leaks to Gawker, the network instituted stricter security protocols for accessing video, making it more difficult to access sensitive outtakes like the Ye ones. “It seems this leaker has found a way around that,” Muto remarked.

If you’re the Kanye video leaker, or anyone else at Fox with some juicy info, we’d love to hear from you. Email us at confider@thedailybeast.com.

Fox News Host Jesse Watters’ Dig at Joe Biden’s Hurricane Ian Response Falls Flat

Jesse Watters attempted to make a wry dig at President Joe Biden on Thursday over his response to Hurricane Ian but came up empty after receiving pushback not from a Democratic-leaning guest but former George W. Bush deputy chief of staff Karl Rove.

The Fox News host tried to give the impression that Biden has been dragging his feet about providing aid to storm-ravaged Florida, despite Gov. Ron DeSantis saying he is “thankful” for the help from the administration, which he has often criticized. On Thursday, Biden approved federal aid to individuals in nine counties, meaning affected residents could receive up to $37,900 for home repairs and the same amount to cover lost personal property.

“Do you think if Ron DeSantis renamed Florida ‘Ukraine,’ Joe Biden would give him the federal aid faster?” Watters asked, regurgitating an argument often heard from his colleagues like Tucker Carlson, who have questioned the amount and frequency of aid to the war-torn nation battling Russia.

“Well, you know what? He did, and Governor DeSantis made this point: that the federal government… the state of Florida sent its initial request, they immediately responded, and said yes,” Rove replied. “They made a request for what’s called individual assistance. And you heard the governor just now reflect on it. The federal government immediately responded and said yes.”

Prior to Rove’s appearance, Watters tuned into a live briefing where DeSantis again voiced his appreciation for FEMA’s help. (After Hurricane Sandy ravaged the New York/New Jersey region in 2013, then-Rep. DeSantis opposed federal money for the cleanup effort, calling it a “put it on the credit card mentality.”)

“So far, we haven’t seen politics when it comes to the delivery of the aid. And let’s hope not,” Rove continued. “Let’s hope that the emergency officials in charge of the federal entity that has to relate to the state keep the politics out of it. That’s what—in Republican and Democratic administrations alike—they’ve done in the past. Let’s hope that they continue to do it in the future.”

Donald Trump Replies to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ Lawsuit on ‘Hannity’

Former President Donald Trump has swung back at New York state Attorney General Letitia James, claiming that instead of targeting him in a massive fraud suit to the tune of $250 million, she should put more effort into reducing crime in New York City. Appearing on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show for part two of his interview with the conservative commentator, Trump was touting his efforts in his dealings with the Taliban when he swiftly switched to crime in America. “In New York, where Letitia James rules, we have the worst crime that we’ve ever had,” Trump said. The Washington Post reported that while “overall, violent crime is up 34%… there have been 13% fewer shooting incidents this year than last” and that “the number of homicides in New York is down 13 percent, not up.” Trump made brief mention of James’ suit, in which she is suing Trump, three of his adult children, and their family real estate company, alleging they overinflated the value of Trump property. “That’s where Letitia James, she should focus on murder and crime in New York where they walk into stores with axes and they start swinging the axes at people,” Trump said. “That’s where she ought to be focused, not on how much is Mar-a-Lago worth.”

Tucker Carlson hits back at Jennifer Lawrence for saying she has nightmares about him

Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night joked about Jennifer Lawrence’s revelation of her ‘nightmares’ about him, laughing that he was not to blame if he appeared in the dreams of Hollywood starlets.

Lawrence, 32, told Vogue magazine that she was sad and angry that some of her relatives supported Donald Trump. Born into a Republican family in Kentucky, she said she struggled to come to terms with their views – and had nightmares about Carlson.

The Fox News host on Tuesday could not resist referencing her claims.

‘When you decide to work in television, you lose control of a lot of things,’ Carlson told his viewers, furrowing his brow.

‘Foremost, the way other people perceive you.

‘So can it really be your fault, are you really responsible, if major Hollywood starlets dream about you?’

He then pulled out a pair of black spectacles.

‘Maybe it’s the sexy glasses,’ he deadpanned.

Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night responded to Jennifer Lawrence’s claim that she has nightmares about him

Carlson joked that Lawrence dreamt of him due to his ‘sexy glasses’

The actress is the cover star of the October issue of the fashion magazine

Lawrence with her family at the 2013 Academy Awards, during which she won an Oscar for her performance as a leading actress in ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’ The actress says political divisions in the Trump era have divided her family

Carlson’s colleague, Trace Gallagher, noted: ‘Jennifer Lawrence sees you in her head at night, the nightmares when she sleeps. She is likely not watching you now, but her parents are probably watching you, because they are fans.’

He pointed out that Lawrence – a passionate Democrat campaigner – was accused by Carlson in 2017 of having ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome,’ after she remarked that the terrible hurricane season was perhaps ‘Mother Nature’s wrath’ at the election of Trump.

Carlson concluded: ‘So she has nightmares about us, nightmares.’

He added: ‘We are flattered. Can’t help it if they dream about you.’

Carlson’s colleague, Trace Gallagher, told him: ‘Jennifer Lawrence sees you in her head at night’

Lawrence, who grew up in an upper-middle class suburb of Kentucky, says she was formerly culturally conservative but reformed her political thinking as she watched Tina Fey’s portrayal of Liz Lemon on the NBC comedy ’30 Rock.’

Lawrence says she has recurring nightmares about Tucker Carlson in a new interview with Vogue

Lawrence, in her Vogue interview, said her father’s support for Trump drove a wedge between them.

‘I just worked so hard in the last five years to forgive my dad and my family and try to understand: It’s different. The information they are getting is different. Their life is different,’ she said.

She added: ‘I’ve tried to get over it and I really can’t. I can’t.’

Lawrence said she could not understand people who were disinterested in politics.

‘I can’t f— with people who aren’t political anymore,’ she said, citing gun control and abortion access as key issues.

‘You live in the United States of America. You have to be political.

‘It’s too dire. Politics are killing people.’

Lawrence, who campaigned for Hillary Clinton, said she was devastated by the 2016 election.

‘It breaks my heart because America had the choice between a woman and a dangerous, dangerous jar of mayonnaise.

‘And they were like, “Well, we can’t have a woman. Let’s go with the jar of mayonnaise.”‘

Lawrence grew up in an upper-middle class suburb of Kentucky where she says being conservative was more cultural than political

‘How could you raise a daughter from birth and believe that she doesn’t deserve equality? How?’ wonders the actress, commenting on the feud with her family she cannot overcome

Lawrence told Vogue that a miscarriage she suffered several years ago in Toronto convinced her of the importance of abortion access for young women.

She says she was ‘100%’ planning to get an abortion prior to the miscarriage, but the overturning of Roe v. Wade catapulted the issue to new importance to her personally, and in terms of her relationship with her family.

‘I don’t want to disparage my family but I know that a lot of people are in a similar position with their families,’ she remarked.

‘How could you raise a daughter from birth and believe that she doesn’t deserve equality? How?’

She says she periodically broaches the subject with her family, but accepts she is not convincing them.

‘I broach the subject in the sense that I unleash text messages. Just: Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. They don’t respond,’ she said.

‘And then I’ll feel bad and send a picture of the baby.’

Trump Lawyers Concoct a Theory That the FBI Is Sabotaging Trump

As news broke that the FBI had seized 10 boxes of evidence while carrying out their search warrant on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago residence, his lawyers were floating the idea that something more sinister might be going down.

Appearing Tuesday evening on Fox News, Trump lawyer Alina Habba expressed concerns about the actions of FBI personnel, alleging the possibility of planted materials.

“Quite honestly, I’m concerned that they may have planted something, you know?” the attorney said. “At this point, who knows? I don’t trust the government, and that’s a very frightening thing as an American.”

Striking a similar tone, Trump lawyer Christina Bobb took issue earlier in the day on Real America’s Voice with “not [being] allowed to observe” the search while being present during the raid on Monday on Trump’s legal behalf.

“No, there is no security that something wasn’t planted,” the lawyer said. “I’m not saying that’s what they did.”

“This was a completely unnecessary power flex. It was a weird flex,” Bobb added. “It’s quite honestly sad to see what they have done to our country.”

Asked by The Daily Beast on Tuesday whether she believes the FBI is playing tricks, Bobb said: “I have no reason at this point in time to believe anyone has made anything up.”

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that National Archives had already seized 15 boxes of documents “and other items” from the resort in January “that Mr. Trump should have handed over to the agency at the end of his term.”

Those boxes contained several documents that federal law requires be turned over once a president leaves office, along with archives that officials described as “classified national security information.”

A source told the newspaper that those documents included correspondence between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, among others. The discovery of those documents led to the involvement of the Justice Department. In June, Justice Department lawyers returned to Mar-a-Lago, where they sought more information about the sensitive material taken from the White House. Investigators were led to a basement where boxes of documents were stored, but investigators “looked around and eventually left,” a source told the Journal.

A June 8 letter from the Justice Department ordered Trump’s legal team to secure the room where the documents were stored. The latest search was undertaken because the FBI believed even more classified documents had been stored at the residence, the paper reported but it is unclear how or if the latest search is connected to the June visit.

The FBI raid might have caused some headaches within Trump’s orbit, but it also now gives MAGAworld allies more than enough material to cast Trump as a victim, which one current adviser sees as a path for Trump to win a second term—or, as some advisers falsely claim, a third term.

“The Biden folks love to talk about preserving ‘norms,’ and now they’re so desperate to ‘get’ Trump that they’re raiding his home and turning him into a martyr,” a Trump adviser told The Daily Beast. “They’re going to mess around and single-handedly get him re-elected.”

Elsewhere, on cable news on Tuesday night, several Trump backers cast doubt on the legitimacy of law enforcement activity at the former president’s estate.

Fox News host Jesse Watters suggested that the FBI is engaging in illegal activity.

“What the FBI is probably doing is planting evidence, which is what they did during the Russia hoax,” Watters asserted, pejoratively referring to the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, a habit among Fox’s primetime hosts. “We also have a hunch they doctored evidence to get the warrant.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also baselessly ginned up fears about evidence tampering.

Referring to the “fake FBI,” Gingrich said on right-wing activist Charlie Kirk’s show, “You’ll notice they didn’t allow anybody on the Trump side into Mar-a-Lago. So we have no idea whether or not they planted evidence.”

Fox News Anchor Harris Faulkner Loses It When Joe Manchin Questions Her Patriotism

Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner briefly lost it during a contentious interview with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) on Tuesday, taking strong issue with the centrist senator asking her if she’s afraid of Democrats doing “something good” for America.

“My father served,” an incensed Faulkner fired back at Manchin at one point, demanding that the West Virginia lawmaker not make it “personal.”

With Manchin taking a media victory lap after finally striking a deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to pass portions of President Joe Biden’s economic agenda, Fox News has quickly turned on their favorite Democrat. After praising him for months for tanking Biden’s Build Back Better legislation, the network’s “disappointed” hosts and commentators have groused about Manchin’s “betrayal.”

Appearing on The Faulkner Focus on Tuesday to explain his support for the newly named Inflation Reduction Act, Manchin parried most of Faulkner’s pointed questions about the bill’s tax structure, spending, and energy investments. For the most part, Manchin continued his appeal to the patriotism of both the anchor and the network’s viewers.

“We need more energy today so—we also need to invest in the energy for the future,” Manchin declared early in the interview. “This is a balanced approach everyone has been talking about. Everyone is upset for whatever reason because they are afraid it is a political bill. It is not a Democrat bill. Not a Republican bill. It is not a green deal. This is a red, white, and blue deal, Harris.”

Manchin also pushed back when Faulkner parroted Republican claims that the new legislation would raise taxes on middle-class Americans, noting that it merely requires large corporations to pay a minimum tax rate of 15 percent.

“Who is paying any taxes that doesn’t have a corporation that has revenue of over a billion dollars a year? Not one person,” the West Virginia senator replied.

“I am asking you a different question than you’re answering. I’m saying Americans $400,000 and below now are going to be taxed. Their taxes will go up,” Faulkner replied.

“That’s wrong,” Manchin retorted. “That’s a lie. A pure, outright lie.”

The conversation only grew more tense when Manchin taunted the Fox News host, at one point urging her to “be optimistic” and “be an American” when she said experts predict U.S. gas prices will rise around Labor Day.

Eventually, Faulkner brought up Manchin’s non-response when recently grilled by Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd on whether he wanted Democrats to stay in power after this year’s midterms. Insisting he didn’t dodge the question, Manchin instead said he is solely focused on getting his deal passed and is unconcerned with political races.

Faulkner, however, continued to press the issue, bringing up Biden’s low approval numbers while stating that “elections are going to need some help” for Democrats.

“Harris, are you scared that we’re going to do something good that will help our country?” Manchin shot back, prompting the Fox anchor to grow apoplectic.

“Of course not! My father served!” Faulkner shouted.

“Well, sounds like you are,” Manchin calmly interjected.

“Are you kidding? Service is in the Bible!” Faulkner continued. “That’s what we do, we serve our fellow man and woman. Of course! Don’t make this personal, because it’s not.”

After that heated moment, Faulkner again pushed Manchin on the low approval ratings Biden is “rocking right now,” remarking that the West Virginia senator doesn’t sound very supportive of his own party.

“I work with what I have here in the majority party we have as a Democratic Party. I’m working with the president, who has accepted the proposal I put forward and negotiated,” Manchin responded. “Balanced energy policy. It’s wonderful for our country. I know people who don’t like the president and don’t like Democrats might be upset. It is not whether you like the president or you like Democrats. Do you like America? Do you want to fight inflation? This bill does it.”

‘Epic disaster’: CNN+ shutdown leaves laid-off staffers furious as Fox News gloats

Staff at CNN’s short-lived streaming service CNN+ have been left ‘aghast and furious’ at management after the decision to end the service after only three weeks – describing it as ‘an absolute debacle.’

CNN’s new CEO Chris Licht – who does not officially take over until May 2 – told staff on Thursday that CNN+ was ending.

The service only began on March 29, and producers had lured over talent including former Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt, actress Eva Longoria, and chef Alison Roman.

The demise of CNN+ was greeted with joy by Fox News figures such as Greg Gutfeld, as well as critics of the network including Donald Trump and his son.

Insiders estimated the network spent $300 million launching and between $100 million and $200 million advertising. CNN had been planning to spend more than $1 billion on CNN+ over four years, two people familiar with the matter told The New York Times.

David Zaslav, who since the beginning of this month has led the newly-merged massive media giant, had been expected to bring in changes.

But one veteran staffer told The Washington Post: ‘We expected them to cut off a few fingers, not the entire arm.’

David Zaslav, the president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, took the helm of the newly-merged media company on April 8.

Chris Wallace, 74, joined Fox News in 2003 and left to host a show on CNN+. His former colleagues have gloated about the collapse of his new home

Stars of CNN+ including Kasie Hunt (third left), Chris Wallace (next to Hunt) and Anderson Cooper (third right) are seen on March 28 celebrating the launch of the streaming service

The new streaming service had been heavily advertised, but only had 150,000 subscribers

The 300 employees who had already started working at CNN+ were left fuming by Thursday’s announcement – despite the network saying it would try to transfer them to open positions in the company.

Layoffs are likely for people who are not placed in new jobs; they would receive at least six months of severance, according to reports.

Plenty within the service felt they had not been given a chance.

‘Many people left their stable jobs at CNN to go to CNN+ and then they pull it right after launch?’ a source told The New York Post.

‘Everyone is aghast and furious.’

Sara Sidner, who moved from LA to New York to host a CNN+ show, told Thursday’s meeting that the decision to end it so soon was ‘mind-blowing’

Another source complained to the paper: ‘The big people will likely be saved, but what about everybody else, the people who do the real work?’

Another was even more blunt.

‘This is f****** crazy, it is nuts.

‘This literally rivals the epic disaster of Quibi,’ the insider said, referring to the short-lived streaming platform that went out of business seven months after it launched in April 2020.

Licht broke the news on Thursday at a meeting held in a TV studio on the 19th floor of CNN’s headquarters in New York.

After his speech, according to The Washington Post, Sara Sidner, a long-serving CNN correspondent who moved from Los Angeles to New York to host a CNN Plus show, stood up and told the shocked crowd: ‘This is mind-blowing, to be perfectly honest.’

She later tweeted: ‘It’s over. It’s been the shortest most amazing ride #CNNPlus team.’

Hunt, reportedly enticed to leave MSNBC with a $1 million contract, tweeted: ‘The journalists I have been privileged to work with on CNN Plus are world class.

‘I am so incredibly proud to be able to call them colleagues.

‘If your organization would like a chance to benefit from their talents, my DMs are open

‘This is *my* job for the foreseeable future.

She added: ‘(Some of you are asking about me. I am proud to be on team CNN. I will be fine. It’s not about me right now.)’

Sources told The Post that CNN ‘overspent on talent’ by giving Wallace $9 million per year.

He is now thought likely to take over the 9 p.m. slot on CNN left vacant after the firing of Chris Cuomo in December.

Donald Trump was among those celebrating the demise of CNN’s new venture.

‘Congratulations to CNN+ on their decision to immediately FOLD for a lack of ratings, or viewers in any way, shape, or form,’ Trump said in a statement issued on Thursday.

‘It was like an empty desert out there despite spending hundreds of millions of dollars and the hiring of low-rated Chris Wallace, a man who tried so hard to be his father, Mike, but lacked the talent and whatever else is necessary to be a star.

‘In any event, it’s just one more piece of CNN and Fake News that we don’t have to bother with anymore!’

His son, Donald Trump Jr, tweeted a mocking meme, showing the famous dancing pallbearers of Ghana, with the CNN logo on the coffin.

The glossy launch party for CNN+ was only three weeks ago, on March 28

Greg Gutfeld, Fox News host, on Thursday was joking repeatedly about the demise of CNN+

Fox News hosts were also gloating about their rival network’s struggles.

Greg Gutfeld joked repeatedly about the situation on Thursday, commenting during a discussion about leaders of the Democratic Party: ‘The Democratic bench is thinner than Chris Wallace’s demo reel from CNN+.’

He later added: ‘BLM has done to black people what Chris Wallace did to CNN+. He enticed them with a promise and then ditched them on the side of the road.’

In another instance he joked, ‘A lot of these solutions that are coming from the left are unreliable, there are solar panels or windmills. Look at CNN+, how much money they invested in wind power by hiring Chris Wallace.’

During the final segment, Gutfeld aired a clip of a bison roaming through a town.

‘I haven’t done a celebrity sighting in awhile,’ he began. ‘As we know, CNN+ closed down, so you see a lot of their talent out on the street.

‘For example, I just looked out at Sixth Avenue, and who did I see just hanging out in front of a tavern? None other than, guess? Chris Wallace, just wandering around.’

The decision to close the streaming service, Licht told staff, was not due to any failure on their park.

The service has attracted 150,000 subscribers so far, paying $5.99 a month, and were on a pace to hit first-year subscription goals.

CNN+ was unable to show the same news shows as CNN, owing to existing contracts with cable tv providers. But they had encouraged their stars like Anderson Cooper to branch out into a parenting show, and had given Don Lemon a chat show.

Yet CNN’s new parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery – officially formed from a merger on April 8 – was unimpressed by the figures.

At any given time, fewer than 10,000 people were watching the service, two people familiar with the numbers told The New York Times.

‘It’s not your fault that you had the rug pulled out from underneath you,’ Licht said on Thursday, according to a recording reviewed by the paper.

‘The new owner came in and said: ‘What a beautiful house! But I need an apartment.’

‘And that doesn’t take anything away from this beautiful house you built. I am proud of it, and I am proud of this team, and I am gutted by what this means for you.’

Father of two, 31, refused heart transplant because he isn’t vaxxed for COVID has heart pump fitted

A 31-year-old father of two has undergone open heart surgery to fit a pump that will only keep him alive another five years after he was refused a transplant because he would not get vaccinated against COVID-19.

DJ Ferguson underwent a procedure to fit a mechanical heart pump, called a left ventricular assist device, which will last for up to five years.

The device was fitted at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, where Ferguson was admitted in November, suffering from a hereditary heart condition that causes his lungs and heart to fill with blood and fluid.

On Wednesday night his mother, Tracey; father, David; and girlfriend Heather Dawson – the mother of his children – told Fox News of their devastation at the hospital’s refusal to grant Ferguson a transplant.

David Ferguson said that the grueling open heart surgery was a last resort, and a poor alternative to a transplant.

‘He had to get the vaccine in order to get that transplant,’ he told Tucker Carlson.

‘His heart deteriorated so much, so quickly, that they had to resort to open heart surgery and doing the L-VAD (left ventricular assist device) mechanical pump,’ he explained.

‘So now my boy has a pump – he’s in recovery. He went through seven hours of surgery.’

His mother, from Mendon, 30 miles southwest of Boston, said: ‘We are devastated by the news.

‘He just got out of open heart surgery yesterday, he had to have a valve put in place.

‘Now he is in need of a transplant.

‘So I find myself – you know, you are sad.’

Tucker Carlson on Wednesday night spoke to Heather Dawson, the girlfriend of DJ Ferguson, and Ferguson’s parents Tracey and David

Ferguson, 31, underwent open heart surgery on Tuesday, his family said

Ferguson is seen with his girlfriend Heather Dawson, the mother of his two children

DJ Ferguson, 31 (pictured) has a hereditary heart condition that causes his lungs and heart to fill with blood and fluid without intervention from intravenous medication. He has been denied a life-saving heart transplant because he refuses to get vaccinated against COVID-19

Factors that can disqualify patients from organ transplants

  • Not being vaccinated for COVID
  • Untreated psychological disorders, like schizophrenia, that could prevent the patient from properly caring for themselves after the transplant
  • A high risk of abusing alcohol after the transplant
  • Active cigarette smoking within six months of the prospective transplant
  • Substance abuse
  • Obesity
  • Severe local or systemic infection
  • Cancer in the last 5 years except localized skin (not melanoma) or stage I breast or prostate
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Age appropriateness (for example, heart transplant recipients should not be more than 70 years of age, according to John Hopkins University guidelines)
  • Inability to make a strong commitment to transplantation
  • Insulin-requiring diabetes mellitus with end-organ damage
  • Irreversible renal failure
  • Acute pulmonary thromboembolism
  • Inability to pay for transplant or post-operative care

Asked by Carlson how she felt, she replied: ‘Where this leaves me?

‘It leaves me just hopeful right now.’

Earlier, she told ABC News her son was not an anti-vaxxer.

‘He’s not an anti-vaxxer. He has all of his vaccines, and he’s an informed patient who is concerned because of his current cardiac crisis,’ she said.

Her son is concerned about the potential for the COVID vaccine to cause an inflammation of the heart. Doctors say, however, that the risk of getting infected by COVID is far more serious than any temporary risk of heart inflammation.

Furthermore, after a transplant the immune system is essentially shut off, to prevent the transplanted organ being rejected – rendering the patient extremely vulnerable.

David Ferguson said their son was an anti-vaxxer.

He said previously that getting vaccinated is ‘kind of against his basic principles’ and that his son ‘doesn’t believe in it.’

‘I think my boy is fighting pretty damn courageously and he has integrity and principles he really believes in – and that makes me respect him all the more,’ he said.

‘It’s his body. It’s his choice.’

Ferguson’s girlfriend Heather Dawson said on Wednesday the ordeal had been ‘terrible’.

‘It sucks because his nurses are amazing,’ she told Carlson.

‘They have been amazing to him. His doctors have been amazing to him.

Boston Brigham and Women’s Hospital (pictured) removed Ferguson from its donor list because has not gotten the COVID-19 vaccine and said in a statement that their aim is to ‘create both the best chance for successful operation and also the patient’s survival after transplantation’

‘But having that dangled over her head at the very last minute, after he had been through all the testing, after he received his letter saying that he was accepted onto the transplant list…

‘It is just so disheartening that they would hang out over his head right the last moment.’

The hospital said it removed Ferguson from the donor list because all transplant recipients needed to be vaccinated in order to ‘create both the best chance for successful operation and also the patient’s survival after transplantation.’

Dawson, in an appeal for funds to support the family, said Ferguson was already ‘high risk’ for the vaccine due to his swollen heart.

‘He is at extremely high risk of sudden death if it does,’ she wrote, of fears his heart could swell. ‘We are literally in a corner right now. This is extremely time sensitive.

‘We’re being pressured to choose a shot that could kill him.

‘This is not just a political issue. People need to have a choice!’ she said.

Ferguson’s family is considering moving him to another hospital, but he may not be able to be moved in his condition

‘After almost 50 days in the hospital with no answers, DJ was finally seen by some of the best cardiac specialists last week,’ Dawson updated on GoFundMe.

‘After running countless tests and scans we learned that DJ is now in severe end stage heart failure, meaning that he is going to need a heart transplant to live.

‘On top of the heart failure his heart is extremely swollen and dilated. Which puts him at high risk of cardiac arrest,’ she said.

‘The bad news is that the transplant board will not actively list him due to his vaccination status.’

The hospital, which has a list of protocols for transplant candidates that includes a ban on lifestyle choices like smoking and alcohol, said requiring the COVID-19 vaccine is common at many medical center’s throughout the country.

The mortality rate for transplant recipients who fall ill with COVID is more than 20 percent, according to UCHealth.

Dr. Arthur Caplan, the head of Medical Ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, told CBS Boston that vaccination is a requirement for transplants because, after receiving a new organ, patients’ immune systems are essentially switched off.

‘The flu could kill you, a cold could kill you, COVID could kill you,’ he said.

‘The organs are scarce, we are not going to distribute them to someone who has a poor chance of living when others who are vaccinated have a better chance post-surgery of surviving.’

Ferguson is not the first patient in need of a transplant who has been denied due to their vaccination status.

In October, Leilani Lutali of Colorado, 56, was taken off the transplant list at a University of Colorado Health hospital because she and her prospective kidney donor Jaimee Fougner, 45, had not received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The pair were placed on a list for those who are ‘non-compliant by not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.’

Lutali, a Born-again Christian, has refused to get inoculated because of the use of stem cells in developing some vaccines.

‘As a Christian, I can’t support anything that has to do with abortion of babies, and the sanctity of life for me is precious,’ Lutali said.

Fougner, Lutali’s friend and potential donor, has also denied the vaccine citing religious reasons.

Cells taken from elective abortions have been used to develop effective vaccines since the 1960s including current vaccines for rubella, chickenpox, hepatitis A, and shingles.

None of the COVID-19 vaccines contain aborted fetal cells, as some social media users have been falsely claiming.

But they did utilize fetal cell lines in their development.

Ohio man Mike Ganin, who is vaccinated against COVID, was denied a kidney transplant last October because his donor hadn’t received her shot.

‘I don’t want to get the vaccine. I’ve got reasons — medical, religious, and also freedom,’ the donor, Sue George, told WKYC.

UCHealth, which operates hospitals and urgent care facilities throughout Colorado, said that the COVID-19 vaccine was one of several measures patients needed to take to give the organ the best chance of not being rejected.

‘An organ transplant is a unique surgery that leads to a lifetime of specialized management to ensure an organ is not rejected, which can lead to serious complications, the need for a subsequent transplant surgery, or even death,’ UCHealth told The Post at the time.

‘Physicians must consider the short and long-term health risks for patients as they consider whether to recommend an organ transplant.’
