Two Distant Planets Could Be Filled With Water

An artist’s rendition of the Kepler-138 system, with the Earth-like water world Kepler-138d in the foreground.

Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have observed two exoplanets that may be examples of a long-hypothesized planetary classification: a water world.

The planets are known as Kepler-138c and Kepler-138d and are located in a star system 218 light-years away, according to a release from the European Space Agency. The team, led by Caroline Piaulet of the Institute for Research on Exoplanets at the University of Montreal, used data from Hubble as well as NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope to determine that the worlds are largely water, making them even wetter than our famously wet home planet. Their findings are published in Nature Astronomy.

“We previously thought that planets that were a bit larger than Earth were big balls of metal and rock, like scaled-up versions of Earth, and that’s why we called them super-Earths,” said Björn Benneke, one of the study authors, in the ESA release. “However, we have now shown that these two planets, Kepler-138c and d, are quite different in nature and that a large fraction of their entire volume is likely composed of water.”

Kepler-138c and Kepler-138d are estimated to be approximately three times the size of Earth and double our own planet’s mass, but with much lower densities.

The research team didn’t directly observe water on the planets, but by comparing the observation data to pre-existing models, they found that they should consist of materials with a density between the gases hydrogen and helium and rock—and the likely candidate is water. With that said, the researchers believe these planets could have incredibly hot atmospheres, meaning their surfaces might not be teeming with vast liquid oceans.

“The temperature in Kepler-138d’s atmosphere is likely above the boiling point of water, and we expect a thick dense atmosphere made of steam on this planet,” said Piaulet. “Only under that steam atmosphere could there potentially be liquid water at high pressure, or even water in another phase that occurs at high pressures, called a supercritical fluid.”

Some of the first direct evidence for the existence of water worlds was found 2012, but subsequent observations have been hard to come by. A study in 2017 suggested that these water worlds could make up a large percentage of potentially habitable exoplanets. Other research in 2019 found that exoplanets larger than Earth—like the Kepler-138 planets—could likely be water worlds with incredibly deep oceans.

While the recent findings are exciting, the research team is looking forward to follow-up work using the Webb Space Telescope to further study the atmospheres of Kepler-138c and d.

Man’s swollen testicle filled with ‘dancing worms’

This brings bizarre new meaning to the term “ballroom dancing.”

A 26-year-old man in India revolted the internet after it was revealed that his swollen right testicle was caused by microscopic worms that had infiltrated his scrotum.

Footage of the parasites “dancing” in the man’s private part is currently going viral online.

“On ultrasound examination (shown in a video), moving structures were seen within a dilated lymphatic channel [thin tubes that transport fluid and white blood cells in the scrotum],” doctors wrote in the case study of the incident, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine‘s latest issue.

The case study reported to the Max Super Specialty Hospital in New Delhi after experiencing “pain and swelling in the scrotum and low-grade fevers” for a month, per the study.

“On examination, there was tenderness and swelling of the right side of the scrotum,” study authors wrote. Subsequent ultrasound scans revealed that the Delhi native had tiny dancers boogying about in his nether region, as seen in the family jewel footage.

Doctors diagnosed the man with lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis, “a neglected tropical disease” that occurs when a mosquito bite infects the patient’s system with a species of microscopic roundworm, according to the World Health Organization.
The New England Journal of Medic

Doctors diagnosed him with lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis, “a neglected tropical disease” that occurs when a mosquito bite infects the patient’s system with a species of microscopic roundworm, according to the World Health Organization. These tiny nematodes cause fluid to block off the lymphatic system, paradoxically causing the scrotum and other body parts to balloon up to pachyderm-esque proportions, hence its nickname.

The aforementioned display was known as “filarial dance sign,” caused by the “undulations of live worms that have migrated into lymphatic channels, causing dilation and dysfunction,” per the study.

The patient was lucky the doctors discovered his testicular infiltrators early. Generally acquired in childhood, elephantiasis symptoms manifest later in life, and often result in permanent disabilities.

Thankfully, doctors were able to evict the man’s scrotal squatters with a three-week regimen of an anti-parasitic drug. When the patient returned, the worms had disappeared completely.

In a much more serious elephantiasis case in 2018, doctors in India removed a whopping 30-pound lump from the leg of a man suffering from the affliction.

Meghan Markle, Harry’s doc filled with ‘inconsistencies’: ‘Nothing in their story stands up,’ expert says

The new reality TV show from the ex-royals, “Harry & Meghan,” has proven one thing if nothing else: Meghan Markle is truly a God-awful actress. We witnessed elements of this while she played a second-fiddle character in “Suits.” Never the star despite what she bangs on about.

The biggest revelation so far is the ever-changing smile of Meghan Markle, who, in the latter part of the show, premieres her new teeth, like Wallace. Not the Wallis as in Simpson, but the cartoon series with Gromit. She flashes those new teeth at every opportunity. You would too. After all, they cost the ex-royal Prince Harry a lot. But back to the plot.

What did we learn?

If I were Netflix, I would think that this is like an old tired soap opera with the best lines and dramatics already served up to that other trash fest that was Oprah Winfrey.

Like Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, Meghan Markle claimed again she had no idea what a royal walkabout was, even though she has — and it has been proven — watched endless documentaries on the late Princess Diana. We’re supposed to believe this utter tosh of a lie and the fact that Harry says Meghan knew how to curtsey while preparing to meet Queen Elizabeth II for the first time.

PRINCE HARRY, MEGHAN MARKLE SHARE INTIMATE DETAILS OF THEIR FIRST ENCOUNTERS IN ‘HARRY & MEGHAN’ DOCUSERIES

Royal expert Neil Sean says there are a lot of inconsistencies in the stories Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are telling.
(Netflix)

I mean, truly, this is without doubt a script that both can’t seem to keep a straight line on.

Up next was the Greta Garbo of the piece — the reclusive mother Doria Ragland, once again like at the royal wedding, filmed all alone. What did she reveal? Nothing other than she knew Harry was the one for her daughter.

Of course, meal and ticket were never mentioned, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that whatever Meghan Markle likes to drizzle as her “truth,” she was actively looking for an English husband, and boy did she hit the jackpot with Harry.

Likewise, Harry seems to deludedly believe that people may have been stunned that he, a ginger, could have landed such a beautiful woman who had brains, clearly not understanding that he held the cache. After all, what was Meghan Markle, but a cable TV actress? Somehow, she has convinced him that she held the power above all else.

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex
(Netflix/Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex)

The biggest problem with the first three episodes so far is simply this: It’s boring. And I mean that with genuine concern. I mean if this is the best they could dredge up, what possible storylines were rejected?

ROYAL PAINS HARRY AND MEGHAN HAVE WORN OUT THEIR WELCOME, SHOULD LOSE THEIR TITLES

Breaking news of shots of Archie’s birthday and the daughter Lilibet, who we never see? And now we know why. They are there to prop up an ailing TV doc, which is very transparent. Meghan Markle made sure to exploit the late Prince Philip, missing out on the fact that as he lay on his deathbed, she had Harry push ahead with the first global attack on the royals with Oprah. Apart from the usual racist comments and slights, was it really all they had?

I mean, let’s be honest. Netflix has shed thousands of subscribers, and in return has gotten acres of free publicity from the hapless duo. But, as a show, it’s a bomb because nothing in their story stands up. Even how they first met has radically changed like so many inconsistencies in the dire podcast she hosted, which took years to make. Nothing is truly real.

The worst bit is that there is even more to come. But unless she outs that the late queen secretly hated royal life, then I can see Meghan Markle and Harry really being left in the lurch as far as family gatherings are concerned.

Still, it may not be too long before the hapless duo resort to reality TV. More so Prince Harry, as Meghan Markle won’t stoop to that level. But happy for Harry to trash his once-loving family that despite what he says, he was, in fact, very close to and loved back.

All that changed when he met a washed-up actress named Meghan Markle who was keen on global power, fame and walking the red carpet, all documented at length by the father she dumped when he too became disposable.

In the trailer of “Harry and Meghan,” Meghan Markle cries while she sits beside Prince Harry.
(Netflix)

Netflix needs to answer three questions in the next installment to make it a hit. What really happened with her father? Can she address the moon bump and the bullying claims? How long does she see this marriage lasting?

If those bombshells are left out, then expect even more folks leaving the streaming giant. But guess what? Like with everything it won’t be Meghan Markle’s fault.

Delta flight from Atlanta to LAX forced to make an emergency landing after smoke filled the cockpit

A Delta flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles had to make an emergency landing after smoke filled the cabin and passengers thought ‘this was the end.’

Delta Flight 2846 made an emergency landing in Albuquerque on Tuesday after a mysterious smoke filled both the passenger cabin and the cockpit.

Video filmed onboard shows the cabin filling with smoke from the front end and passenger and podcaster Gary Vaughn said he could only see a ‘few rows’ in front of him.

‘I knew something catastrophic had happened,’ he said on his podcast.

‘Everybody was crying, everybody was screaming, everybody thought essentially the engines were shut down. And you could hear that we were just kind of gliding…we were still pretty steady. There wasn’t turbulence, there wasn’t anything.’

The pilot told the 193 passengers that they had ‘lost oil pressure in the right engine’ and that it had ‘lost all power,’ Vaughn said.

Throughout the whole process, Vaughn said the four flight attendants were up and handing out water to passengers.

‘The pilot had complete control of the plane. I don’t think he ever lost control of the plane,’ Vaughn said.

‘The screaming, crying people definitely thought that this was the end,’ he said. ‘It was harrowing at best. When you watch movies and see all of the frantic crying and screaming and you hear those types of things, it’s exactly what went on.’

A deadheading pilot on the flight reportedly told Vaughn the smoke was from the engine because it had no oil.

Passenger video shows the eerie scene as smoke filtered toward the back of the plane, significantly heavier toward the front as an alarm blared

Fellow passenger Mason Weiner said on Twitter that the smoke came from ‘burnt oil’ in the engine. Another passenger, who goes by Queen Rainey Reigns on Facebook, also claimed the flight crew told passengers there was no oil in the engine and that the plane was ‘decreasing in altitude.’

Delta has not released an official reason for the smoke. DailyMail.com has reached out for comment.

The pilots were able to land safely at Albuquerque International Sunport, according FAA Public Affairs Specialist Donnell Evans.

Passengers Gary Vaughn (left) and Queen Rainey Reigns (right) were both on the flight. Vaughn described the moment as being in a movie, saying: ‘When I watch disaster movies now, I’ll completely under the terror.’ Rainey agreed, saying she was ‘terrified’ and had thought to herself: ‘Oh my God, am I going to make it?’

Another passenger Mason Weiner said the pilots landed the plane ‘smoothly’ and were ‘amazing’

‘The crew was amazing and made everything as smooth as possible while making an emergency landing in #Albuquerque,’ Weiner wrote.

Various videos posted online by passengers show an eerie looking cabin filling with a light smoke, with a significantly heavier plume toward the front of the plane.

As passengers sat calmly, a piercing emergency alarm went off steadily.

When the plane landed on the runway, a member of the flight crew can be heard in Vaughan’s video telling passengers to ‘keep your seatbelts fastened’ while fire crews checked out the plane before it could taxi to the gate.

Rainey also said the plane started smoking when they were over Texas.

‘Y’all, it’s been a day,’ Rainey said. ‘So we [were] flying, we [were] in the air on the plane over Texas and the inside of our plane started smoking. The fire alarm is going off, like it’s beeping like the house one when there’s too much smoke…it was going off.

‘The plane is just smoking on the inside,’ Rainey, who had been napping on the flight, said on her Facebook Story. ‘What can you do 36,000 feet in the air on a smoking plane? You just sit there and pray for the best. That’s the realization of it all.

‘You just have to talk your way through and affirm your way through it, and that’s what I had to do.

The flight path shows the plane had taken off from Atlanta and landed in Albuquerque

The pilots (pictured) were able to land safely at Albuquerque International Sunport. The FAA is investigating the incident

‘It was an experience,’ she said. ‘I was scared, I was terrified. It was the second scariest that happened in my life…it was a moment of: Oh my God, am I going to make it?’

The plane landed safely and journalist Mark Johnson posted a video of the pilots, thanking them for getting them to Albuquerque.

The FAA is investigating the incident and 193 passengers were rerouted to LAX on a later flight.

Delta Airlines told DailyMail.com in a statement: ‘Nothing is important than the safety of our customers and crew.’

Delta’s maintenance professionals are looking into the plane’s malfunction.

‘Delta did a great job,’ Vaughn said. ‘I think their flight crew was tremendous, they kept everybody calm.’

Vaughn said Delta did offer them a $150 flight credit, but he doesn’t think it is enough after the experience they went through.

‘When I watch disaster movies now, I’ll completely under the terror,’ he said. ‘It was crazy.’
