Exynos 2300 is alive and kicking, coming to these Samsung devices

Ever since Qualcomm mentioned its Snapdragon chips would be used in more Galaxy devices starting in 2023, multiple reports have claimed that the Exynos 2300 is dead and that Samsung will exclusively use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Galaxy S23 series. However, a new report claims that the Exynos 2300 is alive and kicking.

According to tipster @RGcloudS, the 4nm Exynos 2300 chipset exists, and it will power the Galaxy S22 FE and the Galaxy Tab S8 FE. Both devices will reportedly be unveiled during the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 – Part 2 event. The Galaxy S22 FE reportedly replaces the Galaxy A74, which aligns with our previous report.

Exynos 2300 could power Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy Tab S8 FE

The Galaxy S22 FE reportedly features a 108MP ISOCELL HM6 camera and will be priced similarly to the Galaxy A73 5G. This is a considerable upgrade compared to the Galaxy S21 FE’s 12MP primary camera sensor. Hopefully, the device features a dedicated telephoto camera as well.

Another rumor from tipsters @OreXda reiterates that the Galaxy S22 FE is coming soon. The rumor goes on to claim that the Galaxy Buds 2 Live wireless earbuds will also be launched soon. Tipster @dohyun854 claims that the Galaxy S23 FE doesn’t exist.

If these rumors are true, Samsung will replace Galaxy A7x devices with Galaxy S FE phones. It will also use Exynos chips in the foreseeable future despite Samsung MX making its own chip division. If you remember, a rumor recently claimed that System LSI would restrict itself to making automobile chips, and smartphone chips will be designed by Samsung MX’s new chip development division.

Galaxy S22 FE apparently does exist after all and it’s coming soon with Exynos 2300

After many alleged delays, the Galaxy S21 FE was released in early January and there has been a lot of uncertainty about its successor so far, with the most recent reports casting doubt on its existence. The Galaxy S22 FE may not be dead though as a fresh rumor says that it’s coming soon.

Plot twist: Samsung was quietly working on the S22 FE

Budding leaker @OreXda has said that we should expect to see the Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy Buds 2 Live soon and the rumor has been backed by known tipster Dohyun Kim.
All those rumors are starting to make sense now. @RGcloudS, who is also a new leaker, tweeted yesterday that the S22 FE would replace the Galaxy A74. They also said that the phone would be fueled by the Exynos 2300 and would rock a 108MP sensor.
This would be a big step up from the Galaxy S21 FE which has a 12MP main sensor and could help the S22 FE become one of the best camera phones of 2023.

RGcloudS also implied that the Galaxy S22 FE would cost about the same as the A73, which was only launched in few countries with a price of around $500. For reference, the Galaxy S21 FE had a starting price of $700.

It’s best to take these leaks with a heavy helping of salt as we haven’t seen a single concrete leak about the Galaxy S22 FE so far and we all know that Samsung isn’t the best at keeping secrets.

Wild rumor claims Samsung’s Exynos 2300 has a special core for One UI optimization

It has been widely reported that Samsung has ditched the Exynos 2300 in favor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy S23. However, there has been no official word from either Samsung or Qualcomm about the Snapdragon’s exclusivity. Some reports also claim that the Galaxy S23 will use a higher-clocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Now, more information about the Exynos 2300 has appeared.

According to a wild rumor from Twitter user @sto_denebkaitos, the Exynos 2300 has four high-performance CPU cores, four power-efficient CPU cores, and a special core that takes care of One UI performance. That special core could be a Cortex-M series-like unit that focuses on keeping things smooth on the software side. Apparently, the Exynos 2300 scored 4,500 points in Geekbench’s multi-core CPU test.

Preview (opens in a new window)Another tipster @OreXda claims that Samsung created its dream team of engineers in 2020 to create a new processor from the ground up. This team was reportedly made while the development of Exynos 2100 was in progress, and the first chip designed by that team could be launched in 2025. Samsung is reportedly working in collaboration with AMD and Google for this chip, and it could be the most stable and high-performance chip ever used in a Galaxy smartphone.

Samsung could stick with AMD GPU for an in-house chipset designed for Galaxy S25

Rumors claim that Samsung’s flagship smartphone chipset for the Galaxy S25 could have two Cortex-X5 CPU cores, two Cortex-A7xx CPU cores, four Cortex-A5xx CPU cores, and the RDNA3-based AMD GPU with eight cores (four WGP or Workgroup Processors). It could have a special One UI optimization unit, similar to the Exynos 2300, for a smooth UI. This chipset may or may not be branded as Exynos.

Coming back to the possibility of the Exynos 2300 being used in some Galaxy S23, the rumor mill claims that it won’t happen. The chipset may not go into mass production at all, and the Exynos team is reportedly trying to make the Exynos 2400 competitive with the Snapdragon chipset released for 2024 flagship phones.

All of this is really fascinating to read, but you should take this information with a pound of salt. We still don’t know for sure what’s happening with flagship Exynos processors and if Samsung is trying to make a big comeback with a groundbreaking chip for the Galaxy S25. Regarding the Galaxy S23, though, it looks like Samsung is going all in with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Samsung’s next Galaxy S flagship could drop Exynos chips from global variants

Samsung’s next Galaxy S series phone could mark the end of an era. , the company is likely to single-source the processor for its next S series flagship from Qualcomm. That would be a significant departure for Samsung. Over the years, the company has used both Snapdragon and Exynos SoCs in its flagship phones.

The model you got would depend on where you lived. In the US, Galaxy S and Note series phones have exclusively come with Qualcomm chips, much to the envy of Samsung customers in Europe and Asia. In the past, in nearly every situation where Samsung has offered both Snapdragon and Exynos variants of its phones, the former have either outperformed the company’s in-house chips or provided better battery life. Qualcomm processors tend to also offer a more stable experience when it comes to .

Kuo suggests that reality has become too hard for Samsung to ignore. “S23 may not adopt Exynos 2300 made by Samsung 4nm because it can’t compete with SM8550 in all aspects,” he , referring to the next flagship chips from both Samsung and Qualcomm. Kuo adds such a decision would further cement Qualcomm’s dominance in the Android market.

What all of that could mean for the future of Samsung’s Exynos brand is hard to say. The company working with AMD to design and create the Galaxy S22’s , only for that chip to run into many of the same issues that affected its predecessors. In April, Samsung Mobile president TM Roh reportedly told employees the company was working on a chipset that would be “unique” to Samsung smartphones but didn’t elaborate on how that component would be different from the company’s existing Exynos designs.
