Drill rapper Lil Mabu is a model student at a rich prep school

He’s straight outta private school.

Lil Mabu — a drill rapper who has amassed 2.6 million followers by dropping beats about fighting cops, knocking over jewelry stores, and sleeping with “b—hes” — is actually a silver-spoon child of privilege.

He’s a senior at Collegiate School, the nearly 400-year-old Manhattan prep that costs $60,000 a year and has schooled generations of Vanderbilts and Kennedys.

The 17-year-old rapper’s real name is Matthew Peter DeLuca, and he lives at his parents’ five-bed, five-bath, 3,327-square foot condo on the Upper East Side. During school breaks or on weekends, he can escape the Hamptons, where his family owns a 6,182-square foot manse in Water Mill. The two properties are worth close to $12 million total.

Drill rap, a controversial sub-genre which glorifies guns, drugs and violence, has developed a following in recent years among young people. Last February, 18-year-old drill rapper Jayquan McKenley was gunned down in Brooklyn. Mayor Adams has called for drill rap to be banned from social media — though his son is a fan.

Lil Mabu’s lavish life is a far cry from the gritty violence and crime he raps about.

“Can’t say no to the poles and I’m gon’ beat him down with a bat I put an opp in a wheelchair, give me like an hour, I’m leavin’ him flat,” he said in one recent new song called “No Snitching.” The line appears to be a reference to attacking police with a baseball bat. In an accompanying video, Mabu and a friend act out robbing a jewelry store. The video has 6.6 million views on YouTube.

“I call your b—h a wide receiver, she get open easy,” Mabu rapped in a misogynistic tune called “Wicked Witch.”

In another video, Throw, Mabu and a friend get into a staged shootout while leaving Mannys Juice Bar and Grill in Williamsburg, which results in Mabu taking a bullet to the shoulder.

Lil Mabu after getting “shot” in his music video “Throw”

Lil Mabu currently has 1.9 million followers on TikTok, with another 387,000 on Instagram and 331,000 subscribers on YouTube. Several of his social media posts appear to have been filmed inside Collegiate. Others show him getting bemused local reaction to his beats in ritzy Southampton.

“Drill rap is like aggressive music, yeah. Basically kids expressing their feelings, but in their way. It’s the way they do it because they can’t talk to nobody else. Best way to get everything off your chest,” said Chalim Perry, a rapper who has collaborated with Mabu under the name Sha EK.

Perry said Mabu was a “good kid’ and “ready to work” but that his life of privilege was limiting.

“He don’t have street cred, but they just respect it because they know he has music talent,” Perry said.

Mabu’s father, Peter DeLuca, 71, who sometimes makes cameos in his son’s work, might have a bit more street cred.

He is a Manhattan funeral director, who in 2006 was accused by ex-wife Jane DeLuca of conniving with a pair of disgraced Brooklyn judges to cheat her out of millions during their divorce. He’s fought legal turf wars with fellow undertakers and once took a punch to the face after allegedly soliciting future business from a client’s 91-year-old mother.

He also has a rare NYC permit to carry a concealed gun.

Collegiate insiders have been less than amused by the gangland cosplay.

“If this was any other child who did not have a rap career … who said anything close to what this kid is saying they would be expelled and would never be heard from again” one annoyed parent of a recent alum told The Post. “Collegiate used to be Latin and Greek and Math Olympiads, and now it’s TikTok.”

Lil Mabu didn’t always embrace the thug life, earlier videos in his oeuvre, like “Miss Me” have a relaxed, Justin Bieber-esque aesthetic. Before his music career — when he was just Matthew DeLuca — he was known for more conscientious pursuits.

“My name is Matthew DeLuca. I go to the Collegiate School. I am in 9th grade, and my favorite thing about Kids Walk for MSK Kids is getting together with friends and family to support such a wonderful cause,” he said in a Facebook video promoting his work to help pediatric cancer research.

Not all Collegiate insiders are in favor of Lil Mabu’s reputation.

When he attended Middle School at Buckley — where tuition is $55,500 per year — DeLuca was a standout student, even earning the coveted “Headmaster’s Prize for Strength of Character.”

Matthew and Peter DeLuca did not respond to multiple requests for comment from The Post.

“Stepfather Applications” And Ratajkowski’s Cheeky Dance

In the clip, Ratajkowski dances while donning a white, long turtleneck dress by Eterne with black heeled boots and a black purse slung over her shoulder. The My Body author exhaled smoke while dancing and wore her long, brunette tresses in an elegant updo. The mom of son 19-month-old Sylvester wrote in her TikTok, “Me coming out of a sad girl day to check in on the stepfather applications in my DMs,” while a remix of “Paper Planes” by M.I.A. played in the background.

Naturally, fans in the comment section showed their love for Ratajkowski’s “empowered mindset” as one wrote, while others joked that they’d like to “shoot their shot” to impress her and “take her out,” as well. Other users raved about her “cute dress” and “great style” and we couldn’t agree more.

That same night, Ratajkowski posted another video in the same dress while doing her makeup, and giving off more confident vibes. The My Body author set up her phone in front of a mirror, and looked into it while applying lip liner.

The stunner then mouthed a classic quote from Cher to tell us how she really feels about her success and love for being single, as she lip synced the following words: “I love men, I think men are the coolest, but you don’t really need them to live. My mom said to me, ‘you know sweetheart, one day you should settle down and marry a rich man.’ I said, ‘Mom, I am a rich man.’”

To complete her gorg makeup look for the night out, Ratajkowski rocked black eyeliner, mascara, and rosy blush along her high cheekbones. Fans also got a closer look at her updo hairstyle, which included framing tendrils falling at the sides of her face, and she also accessorized her look with silver hoop earrings.

Details of Ratajkowski’s Divorce & Recent Dating History

While Ratajkowski seems to be living it up and having fun with the single life now, many insiders and publications reported that the mom of one’s recent divorce from producer Sebastian Bear-McClard was tumultuous, as he was rumored to have been unfaithful during their four years of marriage. Word first spread online that the couple had called it quits back in July, and their divorce was officially announced in September when she filed for it.

Since then, many sources also linked Ratajkowski to Brad Pitt for a brief fling period in August, and she was also photographed by paparazzi making out with Orazio Rispo, a DJ and son of a luxury realtor while on a date in New York City last month.

Despite Ratajkowski’s jokes about dating and recent TikToks, she made clear in a recent Harper’s Bazaar interview that her son is always her first priority, and that remaining single and focusing on him is her current plan. “I’ve never had such clear priorities in my life,” she told the outlet when sitting down for their November issue. “Number one is Sly, and that’s that. It’s made me re-evaluate what’s important to me, like, what do I want to teach my son?”

She added that she’s also realized that she’s “never been single before,”and opened up about the complicated emotions that have come to the forefront as a result of the painful end to her marriage. She shared that she’s letting herself feel “all the emotions,” Ratajkowski and embracing what she can learn from them. “I feel anger, sadness. I feel excitement. I feel joy. I feel levity,” she said. “Every day is different. The only good thing I know is that I’m feeling all those things, which is nice because it makes me believe that I’ll be OK.”

Russia conducts first nuclear weapons drill since its invasion of Ukraine

Russia conducted its first major nuclear drills since the start of its war on Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin made unfounded claims that Kyiv was seeking to develop a “dirty bomb”, as Moscow continued to ramp up the rhetoric over possible nuclear use in the conflict.

The Russian armed forces on Wednesday practised what defence minister Sergei Shoigu called a “mass nuclear strike with strategic attack forces in response to a nuclear attack by our adversary”, as Putin monitored events via videoconference from the Kremlin.

Addressing security chiefs from a group of ex-Soviet countries after the exercises, Putin said “geopolitical confrontation has sharply increased” and accused the US of using Ukraine as a “battering ram” against Russia.

He repeated claims, without providing evidence, that the US had made Ukraine a “test site for military biological experiments”, complaining that the west was “pumping it up with weapons” and ignoring “provocations” using a dirty bomb, a conventional explosive carrying radioactive material.

Kyiv has vehemently denied the claims and said the Kremlin’s aim was that the spectre of nuclear war would pressure Ukraine’s western backers to accept a peace deal on Russia’s terms.

Ukraine’s defence minister Oleksiy Reznikov said he was “absolutely sure” that Putin’s nuclear rhetoric was part of the “blackmailing of our western partners”, meant to discourage them from providing further weaponry to Kyiv.

Russia’s “Grom” drills tested the three parts of Russia’s nuclear capabilities: the RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile, the missile-carrying K-114 Tula submarine, and two Tu-95 long-range strategic nuclear bombers.

The drills are taking place alongside Nato’s annual nuclear forces exercise, which the alliance has said is designed to ensure that the western nuclear deterrents are “safe, secure and effective”.

Nato’s “Steadfast Noon” drills, which test airborne nuclear forces but no live-fire elements, began this month and will run until October 30 in Belgium, the UK and over the North Sea.

“Nato will not be intimidated or deterred from supporting Ukraine’s right to self-defence,” Nato secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday, a day after rejecting suggestions that the two nuclear drills running concurrently could further heighten already fraught tensions over the war.

“It would have sent an absolutely wrong signal if then suddenly we cancelled that exercise. We’ve also been transparent about the fact we’re conducting these exercises, and it was planned long before the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said a day earlier.

Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, said Russia had notified the US about the drills. “This is a routine annual exercise by Russia,” he said, adding that “in this regard, Russia is complying with its arms control obligations, and its transparency commitments to make those notifications”.

The Russian exercises come amid heightened nuclear rhetoric that western countries fear is an ominous attempt by the Kremlin to fabricate a pretext to escalate Putin’s faltering eight-month invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s counteroffensive continues to inflict humiliating setbacks on Russia’s military, pushing Putin to dial up the rhetoric around the use of nuclear weapons.

Russia held the previous exercise in February just days before Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine and warned the west of “consequences you have never encountered in your history” if it tried to stop him.

Last month, he said Russia would use “all the means at our disposal” to defend itself after annexing four regions of Ukraine and warned that the US created “a precedent” when it dropped nuclear bombs on two Japanese cities at the end of the second world war.

Since then, Ukraine has continued to claw back territory Putin has only just claimed as part of Russia and closed in on Kherson, the only regional capital Moscow has captured throughout the war.

The Grom drills followed calls by Shoigu to his counterparts in China and India, where he repeated the dirty bomb claims. These calls followed similar warnings he made over the weekend to the defence ministers of the US, UK and France — Nato’s three nuclear powers — as well as Turkey, which does not have nuclear weapons but has sought to carve out a role as a mediator in the war.

Ukraine believes Putin has not abandoned his goal to essentially destroy the country in its current form and that he was not prepared to negotiate with Kyiv in good faith.

Russia has left swaths of Ukraine without power after stepping up air strikes on the country’s critical infrastructure facilities such as power plants.

Kyiv had pleaded for help to combat Russia’s onslaught from cruise missiles, air strikes and Iran-made drones. Ukraine is set to receive its first batch of Nasams air defence systems from the US, the most sophisticated air defence system provided to Ukraine so far, according to manufacturer Raytheon.

False alarm: Glendale ‘evacuation alert’ sent to cellphones across LA County was a drill, officials say

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) — A Glendale “public safety alert” that was sent to cellphones and other mobile devices across Los Angeles and Ventura counties on Saturday morning was part of a drill, officials said.

The notification, which was sent shortly after 9 a.m., urged residents of Chevy Chase Canyon to “safely evacuate your home and proceed to the evacuation site” at Glendale Community College.

Minutes later, the city of Glendale tweeted: “THIS IS A DRILL: #MyGlendale is conducting an evacuation exercise in Chevy Chase Canyon.”

Many people who were unnerved by the alert took to social media — at first to express their alarm, followed by bemusement or annoyance.

“Everyone in LA googling where Chevy Chase Canyon is right now,” Marissa Monticolo tweeted.

“How stupid!” Diana Abraham said on Facebook. “Must have scared the people in that area unbelievably.”

About 30 minutes after the first notification, a follow-up was sent out that read: “Disregard evacuation message for Chevy Chase Canyon. Training exercise only.”

4 Marines die in NATO drill in Norway

Four U.S. Marines were killed when their Osprey aircraft crashed in a Norwegian town in the Arctic Circle during a NATO exercise unrelated to the Ukraine war, authorities said Saturday.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere tweeted that they died in the crash on Friday night. The cause was under investigation, but Norwegian police reported bad weather in the area.

“It is with great sadness we have recived the message that four American soldiers died in a plane crash last night,” the Norwegian prime minister tweeted. “Our deepest sympathies go to the soldiers’ families, relatives and fellow soldiers in their unit.”

The Marines, assigned to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, were taking part in a NATO exercise called Cold Response. The U.S. says their identities wouldn’t be immediately provided in keeping with U.S. Defense Department policy of notifying relatives.

The aircraft was an MV-22B Osprey. It “had a crew of four and was out on a training mission in Nordland County” in northern Norway, the country’s armed forces said in a statement.

It was on its way north to Bodoe, where it was scheduled to land just before 6 p.m. Friday. The Osprey crashed in Graetaedalen in Beiarn, south of Bodoe. Police said a search and rescue mission was launched immediately. At 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the police arrived at the scene and confirmed that the crew of four had died.

The annual NATO drills in Norway are unrelated to the war in Ukraine. This year they include around 30,000 troops, 220 aircraft and 50 vessels from 27 countries. The exercises began on March 14 and end on April 1.

The V-22 Ospreys have been involved in a number of deadly crashes in recent years. In 2017, three U.S. Marines were killed when a MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft crashed off the coast of Australia.

In April of 2000, a V-22 Marine tilt-rotor Osprey crashed during a night landing in Arizona. The horrific fireball was recorded by a camera on a second V-22. Nineteen people on board were killed.

What Is a Pocket Hole Jig (and Why Do You Need One)?

Photo: kasarp studio (Shutterstock)

The challenge of hiding hardware when attaching two pieces of wood can be daunting if you’re new to carpentry. If you’re not practiced in making dovetail joints and you don’t own a dado blade—or even know what those things are—making sturdy wood joints that also look nice is difficult. Enter, the pocket hole jig—a tool made for drilling screws at an angle. It is a simpler and cheaper solution for projects that have a “back” side that doesn’t get seen as much, like the wall side of a frame or the underside of a bench. Better yet, even beginners can use it.

A pocket hole jig works by keeping your drill bit at a shallow angle to the surface you’re drilling into without allowing the bit to slip or move. This lets you drill holes to drive a screw from one piece of wood into an adjoining piece without showing on the opposite surface—and without the head of the screw sticking out on the side you’re driving it into. You can use them to hide screws on the back and under sides of furniture and as a quick way to make a corner that’s stronger than one secured by nails or staples.

(The downside to pocket holes is that they’re not as strong as other types of joints that involve trimming the board to overlap, like a lap joint or a mortise and tenon.)

What you need to operate a pocket hole jig

The tools you’ll need to operate a pocket hole jig are:

  • A drill
  • An extra-long drill bit (with a stopper the right size for the screws you’ll be using)
  • Some clamps
  • Your jig
  • Optional: dowels, a flush cut saw, tape measure, and wood glue

You can also get an adapter kit for regular drill bits if you’ve already got a bit that works. Some jigs come with their own stopper bit, so that’s not always required. There are different types of jigs. Some have clamps built in, and some can be clamped in place on your project. If you want to fill your holes after driving your screws, you will also need some dowels. You can get pre-cut pocket hole dowels, but you can also insert a regular dowel peg and use a flush cut saw to strim them to fit.

Depending on what you’re building, you will also need a tape measure and some wood glue to strengthen your joint.

How to use a pocket hole jig

To use the jig, choose where you would like to join your two pieces and mark where the screws will go on the board. Then, position your jig on the board, setting the depth of the jig so your screw will be long enough to capture both of your pieces of wood without breaking the opposite surface. If you’re not sure of the depth, do a test on a piece of scrap wood.

Once you’ve measured where your screws will go, line up the holes in the jig with your marks, clamp the jig firmly in place, and drill your hole. Then, you can line up your joint, clamp your pieces together, and drive your screws. Using clamps to keep your joint square and flush is important because driving a screw at an angle will cause the wood to shift. You can prevent this by clamping your two boards together to a flat surface. Using an angle clamp is the best way to get a square, secure joint.

You can now drill the best wireless charging AirPower alternative right into your desk

Zens is expanding its excellent alternative to Apple’s failed AirPower charger, the Liberty wireless charger, with a new model: the Liberty Built-in charger — which, as the name implies, is designed to be integrated directly into your desk itself for an even more streamlined look.

The original Zens Liberty charger was released back in 2020 and offered an innovative 16-coil design that allowed you to simply place a Qi-compatible phone or device anywhere on the wireless charging pad instead of having to carefully align charging coils or rely on a MagSafe-style magnetic system.

Image: Zens

But the original model rather boringly sat on top of your desk, while the new Liberty Built-in charger is designed to be integrated directly into your nightstand or desktop for a more seamless design. It also adds an extra 30W USB-C charging port, allowing you to directly plug in a phone or tablet for faster charging.

The Zens Built-in is likely destined more for companies to buy in bulk and integrate into office setups rather than for individual customers to buy and drill apart their nightstands in order to get a slightly nicer looking charging setup, although there’s nothing stopping you from buying one and trying it yourself (aside from the necessary woodworking tools and experience, anyway).

The biggest issue with the new built-in model — aside from the carpentry skills needed to actually integrate it into a desk — is that none of the chargers are quite powerful enough. Instead of wirelessly charging two devices at up to 15W each, like the original Liberty charger, the built-in model tops out at 10W each (likely due to the fact that the charger has to share power to the added USB-C port). And while the integrated USB-C charger is shown ambitiously charging a laptop in Zens’ promo image, 30W just isn’t enough for most modern USB-C laptops.

That’s especially true given the price: Zens’ built-in starts at €249.99 (roughly $284) for the plain white model, while the far more interesting-looking glass model costs €279.99 (about $318). That’s a substantial price increase over the original desktop model, which costs $169 in the US for the regular version and $199 for the glass-topped model.

Still, even with those caveats, the new Zens Liberty Built-in is an attractive-looking evolution of the original design. And while it’s unlikely that I’ll be hacking apart my Ikea nightstand anytime soon to try and add an integrated wireless charger to it, I can certainly understand the appeal.

The Zens Liberty Built-in wireless charger will be available in March.

Perseverance Has Run Into a Problem on Mars: Pebbles

A small pile of pebbles is clogging up the Perseverance Mars rover’s operations.

The rover, which is collecting rock samples for eventual return to Earth, began to struggle on Dec. 29, after extracting a core from a rock the mission team nicknamed “Issole.”

According to a NASA blog, the problem occurred in the device that transfers the drill bit and sample out of the rover’s drill arm and into a carousel inside the rover’s chassis for storage.

During the transfer, sensors within the rover recorded a higher-than-normal amount of friction at an unexpected point in the process.

The rover shut down and sent an alert back to Earth. Operators requested more data from the rover, but Perseverance took about a week to respond due to the mismatch between Martian days and Earth days, which restricts how quickly data can transfer.

Once the data arrived, the team ordered the rover to act as its own mechanic by removing the drill bit and undocking its drilling arm in order to photograph its own innards.

The resulting images revealed the problem: a small pile of pebbles inside the carousel. These bits of debris fell off the sample during the transfer process, blocking the drill bit from sitting properly inside the bit carousel.

(NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS)

The carousel is designed to operate even in the presence of some debris, but NASA operators are taking their time to work out a solution.

“This is not the first curve Mars has thrown at us – just the latest,” Louise Jandura, chief engineer for sampling & caching at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, wrote in the blog post.

“One thing we’ve found is that when the engineering challenge is hundreds of millions of miles away (Mars is currently 215 million miles from Earth [346 million kilometers]), it pays to take your time and be thorough. We are going to do that here,” she added.

The Perseverance rover landed on Mars on Feb. 18, 2021. It is exploring Jezero Crater, which was once a river delta.

The goal is to take rock and soil samples to assess the crater for signs that it once hosted life. The rover has equipment that can do some analysis on board, but the hope is that a future Mars mission will be able to retrieve and return the rover’s rock samples to Earth.

This is not the first time the Perseverance team has had to overcome a sampling hiccup. The rover’s very first attempt to collect a rock sample failed. But the rover soon succeeded in collecting a pair of rock samples in quick succession.

Dec 11 (Reuters) – A top Iranian military official warned on Saturday of a “heavy price” for aggressors, state media said, after a report of U.S. and Israeli plans for possible military drills to prepare for strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites if diplomacy fails.

“Providing conditions for military commanders to test Iranian missiles with real targets will cost the aggressors a heavy price,” Nournews, affiliated with Iran’s top security body, said on Twitter, citing an unnamed military official.

A senior U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday that U.S. and Israeli defense chiefs were expected to discuss possible military exercises that would prepare for a worst-case scenario to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities should diplomacy fail and if their nations’ leaders request it. read more
