Todd McFarlane’s Spawn Movie Gets Captain America 4 Writers

Image: New Line Cinema

There is, somehow, a sequel to The Animal happening. The Simpsons takes on It in new Treehouse of Horror images. Plus, director Lee Cronin teases Evil Dead Rise, and new footage from She-Hulk and Rick and Morty. Spoilers now!

The Animal 2

Deadline reports Rob Schneider will reprise his role as Marvin Mange, the police evidence clerk whose organs were replaced with animal parts, in a wholly unexpected sequel to 2001’s The Animal at Tubi. According to the outlet, the sequel will see the character “get into an accident and have to be put together again with new animal parts,” which he’ll use to “hunt down a new uber-animal with powers far beyond his own.”

Spawn

THR has word Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Matthew Mixon are writing a new script for the Spawn reboot at Blumhouse. As of this writing, Jamie Foxx is still on board to play Al Simmons/Spawn, but Jeremy Renner’s involvement as Twitch Williams remains “to be determined.”

Werewolf By Night

During a recent interview with Fandom, Michael Giacchino described the monsters in Werewolf By Night as “person[s] with a problem, who can’t solve it and needs help solving it.”

Too often, even in Marvel movies, a lot of times monsters are just used as something to kill, something to defeat. And I’m like, no, monsters are nothing but a person with a problem, who can’t solve it and needs help solving it. Everything that I loved as a kid about these [monster] films is that they were allegories for people with afflictions that need help. And I felt like that’s the point of view we need to take with this. It cannot just be about ‘Oh, there’s something different, let’s destroy it!’ There’s too much of that going on in our world these days.

I wanted to do something that was about, no, let’s peel back the layers of the onion and understand what’s behind this thing being a monster. Why is it happening? None of these monsters want to be monsters. They don’t want to go around indiscriminately killing people and destroying things. It’s just, that’s their lot in life. Everyone has a lot in life, we all have some struggles, some sort of thing that we’re struggling to solve or deal with within our own selves. And that’s where I want it to go with this story.

Marvel Just Replaced a Key Netflix Daredevil Character In She-Hulk Episode 5

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has brought one shocking revelation after another through its first five episodes, from the unexpected relationship between Madisynn and Wong to the long-awaited social media reign from Jameela Jamil’s Titania. But with each week that passes, one other name has been consistently on MCU fans’ minds ahead of his hotly anticipated comeback: Daredevil.

Warning – the rest of this article contains spoilers for Episode 5 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

In exciting fashion, the first signs of Matt Murdock’s red-suited alter-ego came to the screen in Episode 5 when the camera panned past his red outfit and landed on the new golden-horned mask that he will don in a later episode. While the jury is still out on where Matt himself is, fans now know that his suit is made by Luke Jacobson, the very same person who helped Jen upgrade her own wardrobe.

On the one hand, it’s a thrilling development as fans know that the Man Without Fear is finally inching closer towards his first action in a superhero outfit on Disney+, which was shown off through the promotional tour for She-Hulk. Additionally, it brings some of his potential past into question with discussions still raging about whether Charlie Cox’s work as Daredevil on Netflix is canon with the MCU – particularly thanks to one character that was replaced in Episode 5.

MCU Trades Daredevil Suit Designer for She-Hulk’s

Episode 5 of Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law confirmed that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is now working with Los Angeles-based designer Luke Jacobson on his Daredevil costume.

Marvel Studios

This suit was teased in the episode’s final seconds as the camera zoomed in on a package with a new gold mask, complete with horns on the top. This is the very same mask that fans saw Daredevil use in a couple of seconds of footage from trailers that premiered during She-Hulk‘s promotional run.

Marvel Studios

With Murdock and Jacobson now working together, this indicates that the LA designer has taken over for Melvin Potter from the Daredevil series to make Matt Murdock’s suit, should the Netflix original be considered canon with the MCU.

Netflix

Potter was the character who originally made Daredevil’s main suit at the end of Season 1, although things took a turn for the worse later in the series. He was coerced by Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin to make a new suit for Ben Poindexter/Bullseye in order to frame Matt Murdock, although Potter eventually told Murdock about the plan.

The costume designer ended up getting caught by the FBI for a parole violation while Murdock took down Bullseye and Kingpin, and Potter was eventually put in jail.

Should this storyline be canon in the MCU, this would likely be the reason that Murdock goes to Jacobson looking for a new Daredevil suit. Potter wouldn’t be able to make one from prison, and it would also give him a chance to get something new to try to separate himself from the Bullseye incident.

Daredevil’s Murky Future in the MCU

She-Hulk will be the first time that fans see Daredevil out of his natural New York City habitat as he interacts with Marvel’s other premier lawyer on the west coast. And once he comes, some of those questions about the canon status of Daredevil from Netflix may be answered, but this episode still leaves those mysteries open-ended.

It makes perfect sense why Matt Murdock would have to find a new suit designer if Melvin Potter is still in prison, although it’s still unknown what exactly drives him to fly 3000 miles away from his Hell’s Kitchen home. Another point is that it would be difficult to get a superhero costume like his through airport security if he chose that travel option, with the drive likely being something he couldn’t tackle due to his vision imparity.

On the other hand, this could simply be a way to have the Man Without Fear get a fresh start in the MCU, as he could be early in his run as a hero or simply getting an upgrade to his outfit. And in the end, this may not even be a question that’s answered in She-Hulk’s solo series, as Daredevil will only be around for one of the next four episodes.

Hopefully, more of these questions will be answered for Cox’s fan-favorite hero, especially with just over 18 months until he takes on his next solo journey in Daredevil: Born Again. With this development being so fresh, things could change drastically for the blind lawyer as his tenure in the MCU pushes forward.

The first five episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law are available to stream on Disney+.

She-Hulk’s Comic-Con trailer spoils a cameo with a better cameo

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law
Photo: Disney+, Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios spent a good chunk of its time at San Diego Comic-Con talking about Daredevil, what with Charlie Cox’s version of The Man Without Fear getting his (second) solo show in Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again and Cox benefitting from the MCU hitting the retcon button haaaarrrrrd in a new animated series called Spider-Man: Freshman Year (where we will apparently find out that young Spidey met not only Cox’s Hornhead but new versions of Norman Osborn and Henry Osborn, plus Amadeus Cho and Nico Minoru, before the events of Captain America: Civil War).

But those aren’t the only places where Daredevil popped up this weekend: He also made a quick cameo in the new trailer for Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law series, flipping into frame right at the end and wearing what appears to be a new costume inspired by his original black-and-yellow outfit from the comics (arguably his worst one, to be honest). The trailer cuts away before you see his face, so this could be some kind of cruel fake-out (get hyped, singular fan of D-Man!), but who else carries billy clubs and does flips like that?

Official Trailer | She-Hulk: Attorney at Law | Disney+

Anyway, the rest of the trailer leans hard into comedy, just like the first one did, with Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters bantering with her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) as he trains her in the ways of the Hulk and then getting into some fish-out-of-water hijinks when she returns to New York to start a new life as a giant, green attorney. That’s where she meets various superhero-adjacent characters, like Tim Roth’s Abomination (who was in the last trailer), Benedict Wong’s Wong (from Doctor Strange!), and a group of goons who appear to be classic Marvel villains The Wrecking Crew.

That’s all fun! And the implied existence of sex in the first trailer is even more implied here! Wow! But then Daredevil shows up and that’s all we want to talk and think about. Will She-Hulk and Daredevil get to have a courtroom scene? Will this show acknowledge any events from the Netflix Daredevil show? Will we get to see an appearance from Daredevil’s incorrigible twin brother Mike Murdock (who is definitely a real person and not Matt Murdock in a hat)?

We’ll find out on August 17 when She-Hulk: Attorney At Law premieres on Disney+.

A new Daredevil series is reportedly coming to Disney Plus

The Defender who first headlined Netflix’s partnership with Marvel is coming back in a new Disney Plus series.

Variety reports that Matt Corman (The Brave, Deck the Halls) and Chris Ord (The Enemy Within) have signed on to write a new Daredevil series that could delve into what Matt Murdock was up to in the time after Netflix’s Daredevil show came to an end in 2018. The news comes in the wake of Charlie Cox reprising his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and all of Netflix’s Marvel shows migrating over to Disney Plus earlier this year. While there’s currently no word on whether this new series will directly address the events of the Netflix series, it stands to reason that it would given Vincent D’Onofrio’s reprisal of his Kingpin role for Disney Plus’ Hawkeye.

Now that the multiverse has been breached, Marvel’s in a position to easily weave basically all of its recent stories into the MCU no fuss no muss. A new Daredevil series raises the obvious question of whether Marvel’s considering reviving all of the old Netflix projects and just who all might come back.
