RPG Maker Unite details custom expansions

Get the details below.

■ Two Ways to Modify and Expand RPG Maker Unite‘s Functionality!

Method 1.Using “Addons”

In the RPG Maker series, users have always been able to develop and use scripts known in the community as “plugins” to expand engine functionalities not available by default. Due to this, many users volunteer to develop and generously share plugins with the community, which is how the RPG Maker series gave birth to so many marvelous titles, even as of now!

Similarly, in RPG Maker Unite, users can use “Addons” to enhance and expand the engine. We changed the name due to how the internal processing works differently from past RPG Maker titles, but the concept and usage is identical. However, please do note that like always, we cannot provide official support on the development or usage of Addons. Up to this part we briefly touched on our announcement on September 2, 2022.

—RPG Maker Unite’s Addon Manager UI. This feature allows users to turn ON or OFF on the Addons installed into the game at will.

Method 2.Rewriting the Source Code Through Unity Editor

The second option—which we cannot provide official support for either—is to edit RPG Maker Unite‘s source code directly using Unity Editor. In RPG Maker Unite, users can call out the Unity Editor UI any time as needed. Through this, users can confirm and rewrite a part of the source code however they see fit (Note: with the exception of some DLL files). This is especially useful for large-scale modification! Although the source code is open for viewing in Unity Editor, please do adhere to the EULAs that we will publish later on!

—Users can open Unity Editor from the RPG Maker Unite UI anytime they need it.

—It is possible to have both editors side by side, making modifications while confirming each other simultaneously.

■ Which Method to Choose?

Both Addons and direct editing through Unity uses C# programming language. However, depending on the user’s knowledge level or objectives, there are clear reasons to prefer one over the other.

The biggest difference is whether users wish to modify RPG Maker Unite‘s source code directly or not.

Addons by nature do not modify RPG Maker Unite‘s source code, and thus would not cause conflicts induced by Source Code changes. This is great for developing multiple Addons simultaneously, independently. Merely using other’s Addons is still as easy as always and would not require any programming nor Unity Editor knowledge either. Also, due to not tinkering with the source code, whenever there is an official update to RPG Maker Unite, users can apply it safely too. (Note: Some Addons may need some updates to be compatible with latest updates.)

On the other hand, modification of the source code directly through the Unity Editor would give users unprecedented amounts of freedom. Naturally, this would require a fairly advanced level of programming skills and deep knowledge towards how the Unity Editor and RPG Maker Unite works.

Custom XFX Radeon RX 7900 XTX card has been listed for $1099 by Amazon, XT variant for $979

Custom XFX 7900 XTX get first pricing leak

The XFX RX 7900 Merc 310 series are now listed on Amazon.

The launch of Radeon RX 7900 series is just a few days away. Meanwhile, online retailers such as Amazon are now seemingly ready for the upcoming launch. What is important, it is not just reference cards that are listed by the retailer anymore.

XFX upcoming Speedster MERC 310 GPU had briefly appeared on Amazon with a price and release date. This information is no longer listed by the retailer, but it was captured and shared by hardware leaker @momomo_us. The current page no longer shows this information.

XFX Radeon RX 7900 XT, Source: Amazon

According to this, RX 7900XTX would cost $1099, which is $100 above AMD MSRP. At the same time, custom RX 7900 XT from the same series gets $80 higher price than AMD is suggesting for its reference models. This card would cost $979.

As shown above, both cards would be still significantly cheaper than custom RTX 4080 models currently sold by Amazon and many other retailers. That’s a difference of at least 380 dollars.

We managed to find both listing on Amazon, but none of them has the price or release date as shown above. However, it does appear that price for XFX cards has now been confirmed. Both cards are now set to launch on December 13th, so just when AMD officially lifts its sales embargo.

Custom Radeon RX 7900 series rumored to launch 1 to 2 weeks after AMD reference design

Please note that this post is tagged as a rumor.

Initial launch of AMD Radeon RX 7900 GPUs to be limited to reference models only

Custom Radeon RX 7900 cards rumored to launch 1 to 2 weeks later.

According to the BoardChannels news, the launch of Radeon RX 7900 series on December 13th could initially be limited to ‘public models’. This obviously refers to the MBA (Made by AMD) reference design that is to be offered by all major board partners.

It is said that custom models are to appear 1 to 2 weeks later, without stating any reason. At the time of writing, no board partner has even shared the full specs of their cards, not to mention the fact that only two manufacturers have showcased their cards thus far (ASUS and PowerColor).

AMD Radeon RX 7900 launch rumors, Source: BoardChannels

AMD Radeon launch being limited to reference models is not uncommon, though. This way AMD can ensure that at least for a limited time there will be no overcharge on their cards, simply because they are all the same. On the other hand, custom models may appear at any moment, making it harder to purchase the most desired card.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 Series graphics cards are expected to be available from AMD.com beginning December 13, 2022, and from leading board partners including ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX and Yeston beginning mid-December. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX has an SEP of $999 USD, while the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT has an SEP of $899 USD.

— AMD

Back in September, AMD confirmed to be working with several board partners for the Radeon 7900 launch. At least 10 brands are to have their RX 7900 designs eventually. According to the same quote, those cards are to be available starting from mid-December.

Using custom app icons just got more seamless with iPhone 14 Pro

Apple has never officially let users change iOS app icons. However, thanks to the Shortcuts app, anyone can create a home screen shortcut with a custom icon that opens a specific app. This process comes with the downside of showing a huge banner every time the user taps the icon, but iPhone 14 Pro and Dynamic Island makes using custom app icons much more seamless.

Custom app icons on iPhone 14 Pro

As noted by Parker Ortolani, home screen shortcuts with custom icons no longer show a large banner at the top of the screen, at least on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. That’s because, on these models, iOS now shows a small animation on Dynamic Island to confirm that the shortcut has been successfully executed.

Previously, the banner also caused a delay in the time it took for the user to interact with the app. This delay has now also been removed. Unfortunately, the change is only valid for iPhone 14 Pro users. Those with other iPhone and iPad models still have to deal with the banner when opening a home screen shortcut with custom icon.

Since iOS 14.3, home screen shortcuts no longer open the Shortcuts app before launching the app you set. This alone has made the option compelling for many users despite the banner on the screen. Of course, “changing” app icons in iOS still requires a lot of effort compared to Android.

Even so, there are a lot of iPhone and iPad users who create completely unique home screens with custom icons. Combined with the home screen widgets, also introduced with iOS 14 in 2020, users have found many creative ways to change their home screens.

How to change app icons in iOS

If you want to customize your home screen with different icons, be sure to read our special guide on how to change icon apps running iOS 14 and later. It’s worth noting that you can find multiple icon packs for iOS apps available on the web.
