Eurozone Flash PMIs January 2020: Business activity shrinks again

LONDON — Business activity in the euro zone fell to a two-month low in January, preliminary data showed on Friday, on the back of stricter coronavirus-related lockdowns.

The region is grappling with growing Covid-19 infection rates and tighter restrictions as new strains of the virus spread, causing further economic pain.

Markit’s flash composite PMI for the euro zone, which looks at activity across both manufacturing and services, dropped to 47.5 January, versus 49.1 in December. A reading below 50 represents a contraction in activity.

Chris Williamson, chief business economist at IHS Markit, said a double-dip recession for the euro zone was looking “increasingly inevitable.”

“Tighter Covid-19 restrictions took a further toll on businesses in January,” he said in a statement.

“Output fell at an increased rate, led by worsening conditions in the service sector and a weakening of manufacturing growth to the lowest seen so far in the sector’s seven-month recovery.”

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde acknowledged on Thursday that the pandemic still posed “serious risks” to the euro zone economy.

In addition to the new Covid variants, there are also concerns over a slow vaccination roll-out across the European Union.

“In this environment ample monetary stimulus remains essential,” Lagarde said. The ECB decided at a meeting on Thursday to keep interest rates and its wider stimulus programs unchanged for now, having boosted its support in December.

The ECB expects the euro zone’s GDP (gross domestic product) to expand by 3.9% in 2021, and 2.1% in 2022. This is after a contraction of 7.3% last year. However, these forecasts are dependent on the evolution of the pandemic.

France hires more

Earlier, France’s business activity data also came in at a two-month low, reflecting the imposition of stricter curfews across the country. The country’s composite PMI for January was 47, making a contraction.

However, French businesses hired more employees in January — the first increase in job figures in almost a year.

“The fact that firms have returned to recruitment activity points to some confidence in an economic recovery in the second half of this year,” Eliot Kerr, economist at IHS Markit said, in a statement.

In Germany, business activity managed to grow slightly in January, with the flash composite output index coming in at 50.8. However, the reading represented a seven-month low for Europe’s economic engine.

Phil Smith, associate director at IHS Markit, highlighted a slower momentum in manufacturing activity in the country, and a continued hit to the services sector during January.

“All in all, the German economy has made a slow start to the year, and the extension of the current containment measures until at least mid-February means this looks like being the picture for several more weeks to come,” he said.

The German government decided some days ago to extend the national lockdown until Feb. 14.

Dave Chappelle Tests Positive for COVID-19, Cancels Texas Shows

Dave Chappelle has canceled performances scheduled at Stubbs in Austin, Texas after testing positive for COVID-19, TMZ reports and Chappelle’s representative confirmed to Pitchfork. The canceled dates were among a handful the comedian had booked through this weekend. He had already performed the first of the Austin gigs on Wednesday. Tickets are being refunded.

“Chappelle has safely conducted socially-distanced shows in Ohio since June 2020 and he moved those shows to Austin during the winter,” a statement from Chappelle’s representative reads. “Chappelle implemented COVID-19 protocols which included rapid testing for the audience and daily testing for himself and his team. His diligent testing enabled him to immediately respond by quarantining, thus mitigating the spread of the virus. Chappelle is asymptomatic.”

Chappelle began hosting outdoor, socially distanced performances in his current home state of Ohio since June. His guests included Common, Tiffany Haddish, John Mayer, and several others. After hosting a block party to celebrate the Fourth of July, Chappelle emceed the first post-election episode of Saturday Night Live at the beginning of November.

Earlier this week, Chappelle was photographed maskless with Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, and Grimes. Grimes posted about her own recent experience with the virus on January 9.

Texas doctor charged with stealing COVID-19 vaccine doses

A Texas doctor has been charged with stealing nine doses of the coveted COVID-19 vaccine while working at a county vaccination site, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Dr. Hasan Gokal, who worked with the Harris County Public Health system, is accused of stealing a vial that contained the doses from a vaccination site in Humble on Dec. 29, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a statement.

A week later, Gokal bragged about the theft to a co-worker, who then complained to his supervisors, Ogg said.

Gokal was later fired from his job.

Ogg said Gokal stole the doses to give them to his family and friends, leaving those who need a shot the most without one.

“He abused his position to place his friends and family in line in front of people who had gone through the lawful process to be there,” Ogg said of Gokal. “What he did was illegal and he’ll be held accountable under the law.”

Lawyer Paul Doyle defended his client arguing the vaccine would have expired anyway.

“Dr. Gokal is a dedicated public servant who ensured that COVID-19 vaccine dosages that would have otherwise expired went into the arms of people who met the criteria for receiving it,” Doyle said in a statement to KHOU11.

“Harris County would have preferred Dr. Gokal let the vaccines go to waste and are attempting to disparage this man’s reputation in the process to support this policy. We look forward to our day in court to right this wrong,” the lawyer continued.

Gokal faces up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Riverside County to change coronavirus vaccine appointment website after complaints – Press Enterprise

Riverside County is changing its website that books coronavirus vaccination appointments after scores of complaints from residents who said the site crashed or failed to schedule a shot once they filled out online forms.

The announcement came hours after an appointment window, which started at noon Thursday, Jan. 21, closed after just 32 minutes for six county-run clinics scheduled for the next few days in Perris, Lake Elsinore and Indio. Almost 4,000 appointments were booked, one for each available vaccine dose. Last week, more than 11,000 appointments were full in less than two hours Friday, Jan. 15.

A new website link will be announced soon, county officials said late Thursday afternoon in a news release.

For many, it has been a struggle just to log onto the county site. They took to social media and email to report website crashes and reported filling out forms only to find out no appointments were available.

“It was like trying to buy concert tickets with the site crashing, constantly reloading, and then finally getting in only to fill out all of my information to find out all the appointments were taken,” wrote Kathleen Orr, a 49-year-old Riverside resident and 8th grade middle school teacher, who tried getting an appointment at noon.

She added: “I don’t know of one teacher who was successful in getting an appointment today when the new sites opened up.”

Gary Dailey, a 69-year-old Riverside man, sought an appointment via the county website and also through Albertsons pharmacy.

“I just love how the (county) website is set up, if you are lucky enough to get on,” he said sarcastically via email. “I love repeatedly filling out the forms until I get to the very end where I actually make the appointment only to find out there are none, or better yet, the website vapor locks and you have to start all over from the beginning.”

In the release, county officials blamed “a technical issue in the website code (that) was uncovered at the time” the appointment window opened.

“Unfortunately, when many residents attempted to visit the appointment website, they saw a timeout screen,” the release states.

“Residents are understandably frustrated that the appointment website did not perform today,” Interim County Executive Officer Juan C. Perez said in the release. “While we worked with our vendor to ensure it would be operational today, unfortunately, it was not. Frankly, that’s unacceptable. We apologize for this unfortunate situation and will soon direct residents to a new website.”

Riverside County officials have also reminded residents that there are other options beyond the county, such as doctors, pharmacies and urgent-care clinics but stressed that the demand for shots exceeds the supply.

In an email to a constituent, Jeff Greene, chief of staff to Riverside County Supervisor Kevin Jeffries, wrote that part of the problem was Gov. Gavin Newsom’s announcement that counties could start offering the vaccine to those 65 and older — “we have nowhere near sufficient vaccine supplies to fill that need.”

“The previous plan with tiers and phases had its own frustrations and confusions, but it had at least been designed to make smaller groups eligible at once, so the system wouldn’t be overwhelmed,” Greene wrote.

“This week, we only had 3,900 doses total available to the county, and those appointments disappeared within a half hour (Thursday), with the system completely crashing for many/most/all of the unsuccessful applicants … The county bought significant extra bandwidth capacity for this week, but the website vendor apparently had other problems that contributed to the crashing of the site.”

Another issue, Greene wrote, is the state website used to complete the registration.

“Our own website is simply directing people to the CALVAX.org system operated by the state,” he wrote. “And not only has their platform been crashing regularly, but they are also responsible for the very frustrating process that doesn’t tell you there is no space available until after you’ve submitted all your information, unlike a private sector ticket site that holds your spot while you fill in the form.

Riverside County has no control over that, and other counties are seeing the same problem, he said.

San Bernardino County spokesman David Wert said users of that county’s vaccination website run into problems when clicking a link that takes them to the state website to fill out information to book an appointment. Often, users fill out pages of personal information, only to find there are no appointments available, he said.

The county is so frustrated, Wert added, that it’s considering creating its own online appointment booking system, though that would take a considerable amount of time and money.

Riverside County officials also said that when appointments open on their new website, it will still link to the state’s vaccine registration portal. If all appointments are booked when completing the state’s registration, residents won’t be able to schedule a time, the release stated.

THIS NUMBER HAS BEEN STABLE FOR THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS A STATEWIDE 6,000 PEOPLE WITH ACTIVE INFECTION. OUR TEST POSITIVITY RATE IS AVERAGING ABOUT 7.7% OVER THE LAST WEEK THIS IS DOWN FROM 8.7% LAST WEEK. THAT IS GOOD NEWS. TH STATEWIDE 270 PEOPLE HOSPITALIZED WITH COVID-19 ACROSS OUR STATE. THIS NUMBER IS ALSO NOW DOWN BELOW 300 FOR THE LAST TWO OR THREE DAYS. SADLY, THERE ARE 12 NEW PEOPLE WE ARE ANNOUNCING THAT HAVE DIED FROM COVID-19 BRINGING THE TOTAL TO 897 TOTAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIED FROM COVID-19 DURING THIS PANDEMIC. NINE OUT OF THE 12 INDIVIDUALS ARE PEOPLE ASSOCIATED WITH LONG-TERM CARE AND IN THE LAST WEEK, THERE HAVE BEEN A TOTAL OF 70 PEOPLE THAT HAVE DIE FROMMED FROM COVID-19 IN OUR STATE. WE’RE AVERAGING TEN PEOPLE PER DAY DIEING FROM COVID-19. TERM INS OF UPDATED DID GUIDANCE WE HAVE. WE DID RELEASE HEALTH ALERT NETWORK MESSAGE EARLIER THIS WEEK TO OUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND THE PUBLIC HEALTHPARTNERS MAKING THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT WE ARE NO LONGER RECOMMENDING O REQUIRING A AFTER AN EX PROBE ARE POSH SURE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19 NO THAT MEANS SOMEONE HAS RECEIVED TWO DOSES OF ONE OF THE CURRENT LY AVAILABLE COVID-19 VACCINES AND IS 14 DAYS BEYON THE SECOND DOSE AND REQUIRED TO QUARANTINE AFTER THE CLOSE CONTACT EXPOSURE YOU ARE OR THE TRAVEL RELATED RISK FACTOR. WE ARE NO LONGER RECOMMENDING WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSE WITH COVID-19 THROUGH PCR O ANTIGEN-BASED TESTING IN THE PRIOR 90 DAYS NOW THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO PEOPLE WHO ARE CLIN DYING NOTIONED BASED ON SYMPTOMS LINE AND DOES NOT APPLY TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD ANTIBODY TEST LOOKING FOR ANTIBODIES BECAUSE IT DOES NOT GIVE INDICATION FOR WHEN SOMEONE MAY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED FOR SOMEONE WHO IS DIAGNOSE BY PCR BASED TEST IN THE PRIOR 90 DAYS THOSE INDIVIDUALS ALSO ARE NO LONGER REQUIR TO QAR REASON TEE AFTER AN EXPOSURE OR TRAVEL RELATED RISK FACTOR. NOW, THIS IS NOT A FREE PASS TO TRAVEL NOR IS IT A FREE PASS TO RELAX RESTRICTIONS AND WE CONTINUE TO RECOMMEND AGAINST ANY NONESSENTIAL TRAVEL, IN FACT, THE CDC OR THIS WEEK RELEASED AYE DUGSAL GUIDANCE FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL GIVEN THE NE CIRCULATING STRAINS OF THE VIES THAT YOU ARE BEING SEEN GLOBALLY SO CONTINUE TO BE RECOMMENDATION AROUND RESTRICTING NONESSENTIAL TRAVEL AND PEOPLE IMMEDIATE TO CONTINUE TO FOLLOW ALL THE OTHER MITIGATION GUIDANC INCLUDING AVOIDING SOCIAL AND GROUP GATHERINGS, PRACTICING SOCIAL DISTANCING, WEARING FACE MASK WHEN PEOPLE ARE OUT OF THE HOME IN PUBLIC PLACES AND CONTINUING WITH ALL OF THE OTHER LAYERS OF PROTECTION WE HAVE RECOMMENDED ALL OF THIS GUIDANCE CONTINUES TO APPLY TO PEOPLE WHOLE MAY BE FULLY VACCINATED OR PREVIOUSLY INFECTED. NOW THE REASON FOR THIS BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT NO VACCINE IS 100%. WE’RE STILL LEARNING ABOUT HOW LONG PROTECTION LASTS AFTER SOMEBODY IS VACCINATED AND IN FACT VACCINE STUDIES ARE CURRENTLY BEING UNDERTAKEN TO TRY TO QUANTIFY HOW EFFECTIVE VACCINES ARE AT VENTING ASIM TO GNATTIC SPREAD OR TRANSMISSION AS I MENTIONED THERE ARE NEW STRAINS OF CONCERN THAT ARE CIRCULATING GLOBALLY AND SO WHILE WE RELAX THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE FULLY VACCINATED OR PREVIOUSLY INFECTED WE CONTINUE TO NEED TO TAKE A MULTI LAYER APPROACH TO PREVENT THE SPREAD O COVID-19 AND STILL EMPHASIZING THE NEED FOR PEOPLE TO AVOID NONESSENTIAL TRAVEL, AVOID THE SOCIAL AND GROUP GATHERINGS A PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND WEAR FASHION MASK WHENEVER OUT OF THE HOME AND IN PUBLIC PLACES. WE ARE STILL VERY MUCH IN THE MIDST OF THIS PANDEMIC BE A NEED TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TOP STOP AND CONTROL SPREAD OF THIS VIRUS. WITH THAT I WILL HAND THINGS OVER TO THE COMMISSIONER, THANKS. >> GOOD AFTERNOON, AM GOING TO DO THE VACCINE UPDATE, FIRST, THEN FOLLOW THAT WITH OUR LONG-TERM CARE OUTBREAK UPDATE. SO T DATE, 86275 FIRST DOSES OF VACCINE HAVE BEEN IN N HAMPSHIRE AND 53432 PEOPLE HAVE SERVED THE FIRST DOSE OF THE COVID-19 VACCINE A! IN ADDITION, THE SECOND DOSE OF VACCINE. THIS WEEK WE RERECEIVE ADDITIONAL 17175 DOSES OF VACCINE WHICH WILL BE USED TO CONTINUE VACCINATING OUR HIGHEST RISK HEALTH CARE WORKERS, OUR FIRST RESPONDERS AND THE LONG TERM CARE FACILITY RESIDENTS AND STAFF WE EXPECT TO RECEIVE A SIMILAR AMOUNT OF VACCINE NEXT WEEK MORE THAN 30,000 PEOPLE HAVE REGISTERED TO RECEIVE VACCINE AT OUR STATE-RUN VACCINATION SITES AND ABOUT 15,000 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN VACCINATED AT THOSE SITES TO DAT THE SITES ARE CURRENTLY OPEN TO HIGH RISK AMBULATORY CARE PROVIDE EARN FIRST RESPONDERS. AS WE MOVE BEYOND PHASE 1A WE WILL START TO LET THE PUBLIC KNOW WHEN THEY ARE ELIGIBLE TO GO TO THE SITES. BETWEEN WALGREENS PHARMACIES, 96 LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY CLINGS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED TO DATE AND MORE THAN 12,000 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN VACCINATED THROU THE PROGRAMS. FOR LONG-TERM CARE OUTBREAK UPDATE, WE HAVE TEN OUTBREAKS TO CLOSE TODAY. BEDFORD HILLS CENTER, COREVILLE AT MEDFORD, CARLISLE PLACE. FAIRVIEW SENIOR LIVING, GREEN MOUNTAIN TREATMENT CENTER. HANOVER HILL, LAKES REGION COMMUNITY SERVICES, FAIRVIEW HOME, PROSPECT ACADEMY, STABILIZATION CENTER RESIDENTS AT SALEM WOODS AND WARD HEALTH REHAB AND NURSING CENTER SO THOSE ARE ALL CLOSED EFFECTIVE TODAY. 1 NEW OUTBREAKS TO ANNOUN VIRTUAL AND MANCHESTER, CARRIAGE HILL ASSISTED LIVING, DOVER CENTER FOR HEALTH AGE REHAB, GRAYSTONE FARMS, KEEN CENTER HANOVER, LAFAYETTE CENTER, LANGDON PLACE O NASHUA, MEREDITH BAYCOL LONNI CLUB AND REHAB AND NURSE AND SUMMER HILL ASSISTED LIVING. THAT IS ALL I HAVE. THANK YOU. GOVERNOR: TERRIFIC. THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER. SO TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO USE THE LOVELY BOARD HERE FOR LITTLE BIT OF A PRESENTATION AND TO OUTLINE THE PROCESS, BY WITH WHICH OUR CITIZENS MAY REG STORE RECEIVE THE VACCINE AS IT BECOMES AVAILABLE WITH OUR PHASED ROLLOUT. HERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, WE CONTINUE TO ADMINISTER VACCINES AT A HIGHER RATE THAN MOST STATES. WE ARE RANKED 12th HOPE TO CDC CHART IN TERMS OF ADMINISTRATION. AS WAS JUST OUTLINED EVERY BIT OF VACCINE THAT COME HAS TO THE STATE WITHIN A MATTER OF DAYS IS DISGROUND THE HOSPITALLANCE LONG TERM CARE FA SILL SILLY IS AS IT HAS BEEN REQUESTED. WE WILL TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF A STEPBACK AND REVIEW THE PHASES WE TALKED ABOUT LAST WEEK. THE 1A, 1B, 2A, A PHASES. IT IS HARD TO READ. WE’RE IN PHASE 1A AS A LOT OF FOLKS KNOW. THOSE ARE HIGH RISK HEALTH WORKERS THE FIRST RESPONDERS AND OF COURSE THE OLDER ADULTS LIVING IN RESIDENTIAL CARE SETTINGS WHERE A LOT OF THE OUTBREAKS AND REALLY THE HIGHEST AND MOST VULNERABLE OF THE CITIZENS ARE AND HAVE BEEN UNFORTUNATELY BEEN GETTING COVID. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, WE ARE GOING TO REALLY START, WE ARE IN PHASE 1A AND REMAIN IN 1A, OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, WE ARE GOING TO START MOVING INTO PHASE 1B WHICH WE OUTLINED A LITTLE BIT EARLIER. PHASE 1B OUR INDIVIDUALS PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED THAT WAS GOING TO BE INDIVIDUALS 75 YEARS OR OLDER AND THE SIGNIFICANT CHANGE WE ARE ANNOUNCING TODAY IS PER THE C RECOMMENDATIONS AND TALKING TO OTHER GOVERNORS WHERE MOST STATES ARE GOING AND THIS MAKES SENSE. WE ARE GOING TO MOVE THAT IF YOU ARE 65 YEARS OR OLDER YOU ARE NOW CONSIDERED NOT PHASE 2A BUT PHASE 1B IN A MATTER OF A COUPLE OF WEEKS WE ARE GOING TO OUTLINE HOW YOU CAN REG STORE OBTAIN THE VACCINE ALSO INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE MEDICALLY VULNERABLE OR SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER RISK INCLUDING IF I MAY FAMILY CAREGIVERS OF CHILDREN THAT ARE ALSO MEDICALLY VULNERABLE OR OF HIGH RISK, AGAIN, THE VACCINE IS NOT AUTHORIZED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 16 OR UNDER, AND I SHOULD SAY, UNDER 16, AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE’RE BUILDING THAT SHIELD, BUILDING THAT BUFFER OF PROTECTS FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS AND ANY FAMILY CARE GIVERS OF THOSE CHILDREN ALSO QUALIFY UNDER PHASE 1B. STAFF AND RESIDENTS AT IDD FACILITIES, AND THEN, OUR CORRECTION OFFICERRANCE STAFF AS WELL, AGAIN, MAKING SURE WE ARE PROVIDING THAT BUB FELL YOU WILL, THAT SHIELD FOR SOME HIGH RISK INDIVIDUALS OVER IN PHASE 2A, IN THE COMING MONTHS WHEN WE GET TO 2A. AGAIN, THAT WILL INCLUDE SCHOOL AND CHILD CARE STAFF SO OUR TEACHERS REALLY WILL BE WITH ADDED TO THAT AS WELL AS THE NEXT ROUND OF INDIVIDUALS BETWEEN AND 65 YEARS OLD. PHASE 2B WE START GETTING INTO AN AGE ABOUT A BASED PHASE AT THIS POINT. 50 TO 64-YEAR-OLD. THEN PHASE 3A AND 3B AGAIN NOW GETTING TO THE UNDER 50 RANGE OF INDIVIDUALS THAT DON’T HAVE UNDERLYING HEALTH CONDITIONS SO IT IS ABOUT MAKING SURE 1A AND 1B ARE THE STATE’S MOST VULNERABLE CITIZEN WHENCE WE LOOK AT INDIVIDUALS 60 AND OLDER WHEN YOU LOOK A THE FATALITIES FROM COVID-19 THE HUNDREDS OF INDIVIDUALS WE HAVE LOST IN M NEW HAMPSHIRE. 95% OF THEM ARE 65 YEARS OLD AND OLDER. SO OUR HOPE IS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF WHAT WE’RE DISCUSSION TODAY IS AS WE GET AND GET THROUGH PHASE 1B IN THE COMING MONTHS THAT REALLY HELPS PROTECT 95% OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE OF THE HIGHEST RISK AND UNFORTUNATELY HAVE BEEN VICTIMS OF REALLY OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. SO WE’LL GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE IF WE COULD. SO PHASE 1A, AGAIN, HIGH RISK HEALTH WOE, TAUBED ABOUT THIS A LITTLE BIT. 110,000 PEOPLE WITHIN THIS POPULATION. 56,000 HAVE NOW RECEIVED THEIR FIRST SHOT ALREADY. WE HAVE RECEIVED ABOUT 86,000 DOSES OF THE VACCINE SO WE ARE REALLY MOVING IT OUT AS FAST AS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CAN GIVES. THE TEAM IS DOING A GREAT JOB. HE HAS COME IN AND HELPED MANAGE A LOT THE PROCESS ON THE VACCINE SIDE AND DOING TREMENDOUS JOB. A LOT OF HELP FROM THE HOSPITALS AND THAT MAKES IT AVAILABLE TO THE FIRST RESPONDERS AND OF COURSE THE MORE FEDERALLY DRIVEN BRAM THE PARTNERS AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THE CVS WE GIVE THEM ALL THE VACCINE THEY NEE AND ALL SIGNED UP. AND CV CYST GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS AND LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE ABLE TO MEET THE SCHEDULE THAT WE ORIGINALLY LAID OUT TO GET THE TOLL BE H FOLKS THE FIRST AND SECOND SHOT. WE ARE IN PHASE 1A ONGOING THROUGH THE END OF FEBRUARY MAYBE INTO EARLY MARCH POSSIBLY. THE GOOD NEWS THAT IS WE ARE ON SCHEDULE TO TAKE CARE OF OUR MOST VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS. AS WE GO INTO PHASE 1B. LET’S BRING THAT UP. A LITTLE LARGE ABOUT 300,000 INDIVIDUALS. 1.35 MILLION PEOPLE IN THE STATE. SO YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT JUST UNDER 25% OF THE STATE OR SO WILL MAKE UP PHASE 1B. A LARGE POPULATION SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE A SYSTEM IN PLACE TO MAKE IT SIMPLE, TO MAKE IT EASY, AND EFFECTIVE F INDIVIDUALS TO GET THEIR VACCINATIONS SO OF COURSE WE DISCUSSED THE MEDICALLY VULNERABLE AT A SIGNIFICANT RISK AND THOS FAMILY CAREGIVERS. AGAIN, THOSE WILL BE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE AT LEA TWO OF THE MEDICAL CONDITIONS AFFINED BY THE CDC OF BEING HIGH RISK AND IT COULD BE CANCER. KITE BE COPD, THINGS OF THAT NATURE. WILL HAVE THE STAFF AND RESIDENT OF THE CORRECTION OFFICERS AND STAFF AND POPULATIONS THAT EXPERIENCED HEALTH DISPARITIES SO WE TALK A LOT ABOUT, WE HAVE POPULATIONS, ALL ACROSS NEW HAMPSHIRE, PRIMARILY, FRANKLY IN THE INNER CITIES THAT DON’T GET THE SAME ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE AS MANY OTHERS DO. WE SET ASIDE A PORTION OF THE SLK SEN AND TALK ABOUT HOW THAT WILL ROLL OUT. THAT WILL BE STARTING AT THE END OF JANUARY AS WELL AS PART OF PHASE 1B THEN OF COURSE THE NEW CHANGES AS MAKING SURE THAT INDIVIDUALS OVER 65, 65 AND OLDER UL I SHOULD SAY CAN START GETTING THEIR VACCINATION HOW DO YOU DO. HOW DO WE DO IT WHATS THIS HE NEXT STEP IN WE REALLY WORKED HARD TO PUT AND WE ARE PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE TEAM AND DOING PHENOMENAL JOB TO MAKE SURE WE’RE GOING TO BE PREPARED. EVERYTHING WE DISCUSSED TODAY IS HOW TO SIGN UP AND HOW TO REGISTER IF YOU ARE PART OF THAT 1B POPULATION. HOW DO I REG REG TER TO GET MY VACCINE THAT MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT I WANT FOLKS TO TAKE AWAY. FIRST OFF THE REGISTRATION NOT OPEN TODAY. IT WILL BE OPEN ON JANUARY 22nd. THE REASON IS, THAT AS WE FINALIZE TO MAKE SURE THE SYSTEM IS UP AND RUNNING, DOCTORS AND SOME OF THE MEDICAL PROVIDERS ARE GOING TO BE PART OF THIS PROCESS. WE HAVE SIMPLIFIED IT. WOE MADE IT VERY, VERY SIMPLE. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE GET ALL THE INFORMATION OUT AND WHEN FOLKS GO TON THE WEBSITE AS BEGINNING JANUARY 22nd, THE VACCINATIONS STARTING THEMSELVES ACTUALLY ON THE 26th SORB WHERE LETS TAKE ABOUT THE FIRST GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS YOU ARE 65 AND UP. ANYONE 65 AND OLDER CAN NOW GET A VACCINATION AS PART OF GROUP 1B, SO DIDN’T FY YOURSELF AS MER THAN 65 AND HOPE NIGER ONE KNOWS THAT. YOU ARE SIMPLY GOING TO GO TO THE REGISTRATION WEBSITE. IT IS CALLE VACCINES.NH. GOV AND PUT UP THE WEBSITE A COUPLE OF TIMES OVER THE PROCESS HERE AND REGISTER ON-LINE. YOU GO ON THERE. YOU GO LISTEN TO. THEN YOU WILL RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION E-MAIL BACK THAT WILL ALLOW WITH YOU A LINK TO PICK THE LOCATION AND TIME. REGISTER. GOT A CONFIRMATION E-MAIL BACK. USE THE LINK. I PICK THE LOCATION ARE KISSING AND TIME. YOU HAVE WHAT TIME WORKS BEST FOR YOU. THEN YOU SHOW UP. YOU JUST MAKE SURE YOU SHOW UP WITH SOME SORT OF PROOF OF I.D. WITH THE BIRTH DATE TO ENSURE YOU ARE 65 AND OLDER THEN THAT IS IT. IT I REALLY TRYING TO MAKE IT THAT SIMPLE AND THAT IS THE MAJORITY OF FOLKS WITHIN THE 300,000 POPULATION OF 1B AND WE TRIED TO NARROW IT DOWN TO THAT SIMPLICITY. ON JANUARY 22nd YOU CAN GO TO VACCINES.NH. GOV AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO REGISTER AND YOU ARE OFF AND RUNNING. SO THERE IS ANOTHER POPULATION HERE THAT WE TALK A LOT ABOUT WHICH WE CONSIDER MEDICALLY VULNERABLE OR INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT PUT THEM AT SIGNIFICANT RY K THEY MAY BE UNDER 65 BUT OTHER CONDITIONS THAT PUT THEM AT SIGNIFICANT RISK FOR THE VACCINE AND FAMILY CARE GIVERSES OF KIDS THAT MAY HAVE THE VULNERABILITIES. SO THE FIRST THING WE ARE GOING TO ASK YOU TO DO IS SIMPLY PICK UP THE FEN AND CALL THE DOCTOR. CONTACT THE DOCTOR. YOU WILL RESEE. YOU CALL IT REFERRAL OR JUST SOME SORT OF CERTIFICATION IF YOU WILLLE FROM THE DOCTOR THAT CONFIRMS THAT YOU DO HAVE A COUPLE OF THESE CONDITIONS THAT HAVE BEEN OUTLINED AND THEN, THEN EITHER GOING THROUGH THE DOCTOR OR THE DOCTOR WILL NOTIFY THE STAT AND PICK YOUR TIME AND YOU ARE OFF AND RUNNING. SO IT IS JUST ADDING ONE EXTRA STEP VERY SIMPLE OF CALLING THE DOCTOR, THE DOCTOR CONFIRMS YOU HAVE THE CONDITIONS THEN YOU ARE OFF AND RUNNING IN THE SYSTEM WHERE YOU ARE PICKING A TIME AND THEN RECEIVING THE VACCINE AT YOUR CONVENIENCE. THE OTHER GROUPS WE TALKED ABOUT ARE CORRECTION STAFF SO THESE ARE FOLKS THAT MAY BE WORKING IN OUR STATE PRISONS OR IN THE COUNTY JAILS. THE PUBLIC LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH NETWORKS WILL DIRECTLY CONTACT THOSE FACILITIES TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY SCHEDULE AND ALLOW ACCESS TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO COME UNDER THE VAT CORY CATEGORY OF CORRECTION STAFF IN PHASE 1B, SO THE PUBLIC HEALTH NETWORK WILL REACH OUT TO THOSE FOLKS AS WELL AS INDIVIDUALS THAT MAY HAVE DEVELOPMENTAL DISICTS AND RESIDING IN A CONGREGATE SETTING IN THE STAFF AND WILL BE CONTACTED AS WELL BY THE PUBLIC HEALTH NETWORKS TO SCHEDULE TIME THEY CAN CAN COME IN AND SOMEONE CAN PROVIDE THE VACCINATION. SO GAIN, PROBABLY SOMETIME IN THE FEBRUARY TO MARCH TIMEFRAME THERE FOR THE FIRST VACCINATIONS BUT SCHEDULED OBVIOUSLY IN JUST THE COMING WEE MOONEDS HERE. THEN FINALLY, WE TALK ABOUT THE DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTED POPULATIONS. THESE ARE FOLKS WHO THROUGH VARIETY OF DIFFERENT REASONS DON’T HAVE THE EASE OF ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE THAT A LOT OF FOLKS HAVE. SOMETIMES IT COULD BE A LANGUAGE BARRIER. A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT THINGS. PREDOM SANTLY YOU SEE THIS AFFECTED POPULATION IN OUR SMALL CITIES OF MANCHESTER OR CONCORD OR NASHUA. KITE BE ANYWHERE ACROSS THE STATE. WE STARTED THIS PROCESS REALLY. WE HAVE DONE TRAINING AND OUTREACH THAT IS WELL UNDERWAY. WE HAVE DONE TRAINING FOR WELL OVER 100 INDIVIDUALS AND THEN REALLY GETTING THAT MASSAGING CAMPAIGN OUT THERE. HOW TO ACCESS IT. THE SAFETY OF THE VACCINE. WHAT INDIVIDUALS IMMEDIATE TO KNOW TO UNDERSTAND IT AND FEEL COMFORTABLE ABOUT GETTING THE VACCINE AND THE REGIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH NETWORKS ARE COORDINATING ALL OF THIS AND WILL BE DISPRIB BUTTING THROUGH MOBILE VACCINATION CLINICS. THAT IS HOW WE START THIS PROCESS. AGAIN, IN THE MANCHESTER CONCORD AND THE NASHUA AREA, AND THE VACCINATION PROCESS WILL BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 26th SO THAT PROCESS IS WELL UNDERWAY AND MAKING SURE NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND IN THIS ENTIRE PROCESS SO TO SUM UP A LITTLE BIT. APPOINTMENT REGISTRATIONS WILL OPEN ON JANUARY 22nd. THAT IS NEXT FRIDAY, I THINK, CORRECT? I HOPE I GOT IT. YEP. I HAVE THAT CORRECT. SO IN ABOUT EIGHT DAYS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GO ON THE WEBSITE AND VACCINE.NH. GOV AND YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AND THE HOTLINE IS BEING STAFFED UP. AUM SURE THERE IS GOING TO BE A LOT OF QUESTIONS. PLEASE BE PATIENT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. YOU CAN GO TO THE NH. GOV/COVID-19. THAT HAS BEEN THE WEBSITE THE CENTRALIZED WEBSITE FOR LOTS OF DIFFERENT PIECE OF INFORMATION. BUZZ AGAIN, BE PAY SHINS GOING TO BE KEY. WE CAN ONLY DISTRIBUTE IT AND FIND FOLKS UP AS WE KNOW THE VACCINES COMING IN. RIGHT NOW, ON AVERAGE WELL, WE MAY GET 17 OR 18,000 VIALS OF VACCINE. WE DON’T, WE HAVE CONFIDENCE THAT NUMBER WON’T GO DOWN. WE HAVE BEEN PROMISED IT WILL GO UP. ONE THING I HAVE LEARNED FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS DON’T BANK ON THAT 110%. SO AS MORE VACCINE BECOMES AVAILABLE, MORE SPOTS TO REGISTER YOURSELF FOR THE VACCINE BECOME AVAILABLE WITHIN OUR SYSTEM. WE DON’T WANT T BASICALLY OVERPROMISE UNDER DELIVER, SO OUR SYSTEM WILL HAVE ENOUGH SPOTS TO SIGN UP AS WE ARE ASSURED THAT VACCINE WILL BE COMING IN OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS THEN MORE VACCINE AND GREAT WE’LL BE ABLE TO ADD MORE VACCINE IN SO WE WANT FOLKS TO BE PATIENT. CUE GO ON JANUARY 22nd, 2 3RD AND REGISTER. YOU MA I GET PUSHED OUT TWO, THREE, FIVE SIX WEEKS BECAUSE WE CAN ONLY REGISTER THOSE FOR THAT AMOUNT OF VACCINE WE KNOW WE ARE COMING IN. AGAIN, THE TEAM HAS DONE A GREAT JOB MOVING IT OUT. I HAVE A LOT OF CONFIDENCE SEEING WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS THE TEAM CAN PERFORM, GET THESE AND FIXED SITES OR OTHER OPPORTUNITIES AND MAKE SUR THE LOCATIONING DISTRIBUTING AND ADMINISTERING THE VACCINE AS ANTICIPATED SO HOPEFULLY THIS IS GOOD NEWS WE KNOW THERE IS A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND WE HAVE OPENED UP FOR 300,000 PEOPLE NOW TO ART PA OF PHASE 1B IF THEY SO CHOOSE. MANDATE HERE OF COURSE IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO IT. THEN THE NEXT WEEK SORE THEY CAN GO THE WEBSITE AND 3:00 START THE PROCESS OR IF NEED BE, JUST PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU QUALIFIED AS PART OF THE MEDICALLY VULNERABLE POPULATION. ONE LAST THING I WANT TO TALK ABOUT A LITTLE BIT OFF THE TOP OFIC OF VACCINES BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS HAS HAD A LOT OF NEWS BOTH LOCALLY AND NATIONALL A BRIEF UPDATE ON THE POTENTIAL FRANKLY FOR CIVIL UNREST HERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY. IT HAS GLUED US TO THE NEWSCHANNEL TO SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING OUT THERE AS NOT JUST THE INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT-ELECT BIDEN COMES UP, BUT ALSO SOME OF THE THREA WE HAVE HEARD LOCALLY AS WELL. AS THOUGH FBI HAS WARNED. STATES SHOULD BE PREPARED AND POTENTIAL THREATS AT ALL 50 STATE CAPITOLS STARTING THIS WEEKEND THROUGH THE INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT-ELECT JOE BIDEN. I HAVE BEEN ASSURED BY THE NEW HAMPSHIRE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY WE ARE PREPARED TONE SURE THAT ANY PROTESTERS ARE ABLY TO FREELY EXPRESS THEIR RIGHT TO DEMONSTRATION PROVIDED OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE SAFE AND COMPLY WITH STATE AND LOCAL GUIDELINES AND STATE POTIONS A ARE CONSTANTLY COMMUNICATING WITH THE FEDERAL AND LOCAL PARTNERS TO REVIEW ALL THE INTELLIGENCE TO UNDERSTAND THE POTENTIAL IMPACT ON NEW HAMPSHIRE AND PLAN ACCORDING TOLY FOR WHATEVER INFORMATION MAY BE OUT THERE. WE HAVE WILL HAVE THE NATIONAL GUARD ON STANDBY TO BE DEPLOYED IF NEEDED BUT WE FEEL CONFIDENT IF ANYTHING SHOULD ARISE, OUR TEAM HAS DONE ANENTIAL AL JOB OF HANDLING ANY POTENTIAL UNREST WE DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING TO BE DIFFERENT. WITH THAT, WE CAN OPEN IT UP FOR QUESTION >> HOW DOES SOMEONE REGISTER IF THEY DON’T HAVE INTERNET ACCESS. A WELL, YOU CAN CAL YOU CALL THE DOCTOR TO B REFERRED AS PART OF YOU KNOW, AND THE DOCTOR CAN ESSENTIALLY SIGN YOU UP AND IF YOU DON’T HAVE INTERNET ACCESS, YOU COULD USE THE 201 HOT LYNNE AND POTENTIALLY HELP AGAIN GET YOU ACCESS >> THEY ARE GOING TO BE CONNECTED. >> WELL, YEAH. IF YOU ARE 60 AND OLDER. RIGHT. THAT’S THE POP LAGS WE ARE TALK ABOUT. IF YOU ARE 65 ANDLE OTHER IT IS A MATTER OF REGISTERING OVER 56. AND PROOF OF THAT YOU SHOW UP OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE. SO YEAH. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A LOVED ONE OR CAREGIVER OR WHATEVER THAT COULD GET YOU INTERNET ACCESS AGAIN, SOMEONE CAN BE ON THE FEN AND SOMEONE CAN HELP YOU SIGN UP. YOU HAVE TO SHOW PROOF ARE OVER 65 WHEN YOU SHOW UP ANOTHER VACCINATION. >> OH, YEAH. COMMISSIONER SHOULD HAVE BEEN PINTED 17,000 VACCINES. WHAT IF YOU ARE APPROACHING THIS POINT. 65. THE MIDDLE OF MARCH YOU ARE 65 AND SO I MIGHT NOT GET AN APPOINTMENT FOR SIX WEEKS WHEN I REACH OUT AND GET ONE AND DO CALL IN? GOVERNOR: AS SOON AS YOU TURN 65 YOU CAN GO ON THE WEBSITE AND REGISTER. YEAH. THAT IS PROBABLY THE BEST THING I COULD RECOMMEND. AND AGAIN, WE ARE ASKING FOLKS TO BE PATIENT. MY GUESS IS YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET PINT FOR THE NEXT DAY OR THE NEXT WEEK. THERE WILL BE A LOT OF DEMAND OUT THERE AS PRACTICALLY UNDERSTOOD AND WE THINK AGAIN, IF 18,000 VIALS ARE COMING IN AND MINIMUM OVER THE NEXT TEN WEEKS, THAT IS A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY FOR FOLKS IT DOESN’T GET US TO THE FULL 300,000 AND WE HAVE TO FINISH OUT THE LONG-TERM CARE AND SECOND DOSES COMING IN. WE HEARD A LOT OF VERY POSITIVE TALK FROM WASHINGTON THAT THEY ARE SENDING MORE. AND I HAD CALL WITH BOTH THE VICE PRESIDENT AND ALEX AZAR EARLIER. SECRETARY AZARIER THIS WEEK AND WE HEARD A L AND THAT WAR IS COMING. I GAIN DON’T WANT TO SAY AM DOUBTING IT OTHER ON THAT SAY I THINK WE APPRECIATE AND BELIEVE IT WHEN WE SITE THEN WE HAVE A SYSTEM THAT CAN ADJUST ACCORDINGL YEAH >> THAN THREE MONTH WINDOW WHO HAD COVID AND THE ANTIBODIES CAN THEY GET THE VACCINE WITHIN THE 90 D PERIOD. GOVERNOR: YEAH. SURE. DOCTOR? >> IT IS A GOOD QUESTION. YES. PEOPLE CANNOT GET THE VACCINE IF THEY ARE STILL SUPPOSED TO BE ON ISOLATION DUE TO INFECTION BUT ONCE THEY ARE OFF ISOLATION THEY CAN GET THE VACCINE AT ANY POINT ONCE THEY ARE NOT INFECTIOUS ANY MORE. THE ONLY CAVE I HAVE ATE TO THAT IF SOMEBODY HAS GOT ONE OF THESE THERAPIES, ONE OF THE ANTIBODY TREATMENTS. THERE IS A CALF I HAVE ATE THAT PEOPLE WHO HAVE GOT IN THIS THERAPY SHOULDN’T GET THE VACCINE WITHIN 90 DAYS SO SORT TWO OF GROUPS HERE. ONE IS PEOPLE WITH COVID-19 CAN GET AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT ON ISOLATION AND SOMEBODY HAS GOTTEN ONE OF THESE MEDICAL THERAPIES THE MONO CLONAL ANTIBODY THERAPIES THAT ARE THROUGHOUT AND THEY HAVE TO WAIT A FULL 90 DAY >> REPORT ARE YOU AWA OF SPEAN SICK OF THREATS? OVERALL, WHAT IS YOUR CONDITI THAT SOMETHING SIM CLOOP PEN HERE. GOVERNOR: I CANNOT DISCUSS ANYTHING TOO SPECIFIC. ARE VERY PREPARED AND CAN HANDLE ANYTHING THA WE ARE CONNECTED TO ANY INTELLIGENCE THAT WE DO. I AM ALWAYS CONCERNED. I WOULD NEVER SIT BACK AND SAY WHAT HAPPENED IN WASHINGTON CAN’T HAPPEN HEAR. IT CAN HAPPEN ANYWAY. SO WE ARE GOING TO BE PREPARED FOR THAT. FOR THAT CONTINGENCY IF GOD FORBID IT SHOULD HAPPEN. I THINK PROTESTING IS FINE. HAVING A VOICE IS ABSOLUTELY FIND. STATE HOUSE GROUNDS ARE THERE. THEY ARE OPEN. NO I? IF FOLKS WANT TO COME UP AND HAVE A VOICE. THAT IS THE RIGHT PLACE, THE RIGHT TIME TO DO IT PROVIDE THEY ARE SAFE FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES AND REGULATION OF SAFETY THAT WE EXPECT FROM FOLKS. >> GIVEN THE FACT THAT, SORRY THE GRANITE STARTERS CAN CARRY GUNS DOES THAT HEIGHT IN THE LEVEL OF CONCERN GOVERNOR: NO. REPORTER: DO YOU FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE BEE RESPONSIBLE GOVERNOR: YEAH. THEY ALWAYS HAVE BEEN. NOT AN ISSUE. YEAH. SORRY. DO YOU HAVE ONE. REPORTER: YEAH. I FORGOT. SORR GOVERNOR: SOMETIMES YOU FOR GET THE QUESTION. IT IS OK REPORTER: AND MEDICALLY VULNERABLE POPULATION AND SOME CLINICIANS YOU GOT THAT SEPARAT REFERRAL THERE AND IS THAT GOING TO BE TIME-CONSUMING. WE DID HEAR THIS WE HEARD FROM SOME DOCTORS. IS ALL OF THIS ALREADY ON AUTOMATIC? GOVERNOR: THE NEXT BUN NEXT ONE. MEDICALLY VULNERABLE. THERE YOU GO. MEDICALL VULNERABLE. YOU HAVE TO HAVE TWO CONDITIONS. THE CONDITIONS ARE SEVERE. YOU WOULDN’T HAVE THESE CONDITIONS WITHOUT THE DOCTOR KNOWING ABOUT IT. THEY ARE EASILY EYE DIDN’T FINAL. YEAH. YOU FROM SIMILAR TO REFERRAL FRANKLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET BLOOD WOK OR SOMETHING. THE DOCTOR WANTS TO MAKE SURE MAYBE A PRESCRIPTION YOU ARE GETTING AND THE PLED SINCE NOT GOING TO CONFLICT WITH ANYTHING YOU HAVE. YEAH. WE MIGHT REQUIRE FOLKS WORKING OR CHECKING YOUR CHART OR YOUR FILE. THE POPULATION HERE. IT IS BALLPARK NUMBER. TO 90,000 INDIVIDUALS POTENTIALLY. SOMETHING LAKE THIS. THAT IS A ROUGH GUESS, PLEASE. IT MAY TAKE FEW WEEKS. A LOT FOLKS CALLING THEIR DOCTORS. THEY WILL HAVE TO DO EXTRA WOR HEAR. IF IT MEANS GETTING ONE TO THE FRONT OF THE LANE AND CANCER AND SHOULD BE IN THE FRONT OF THE LINE. THEN, YEAH. CHECK THE CHART AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE THERE. THAT IS SIMPLE. YOU SIGN UP AND G DOCTORS HAVE A LOT OF FLEX BIBLE. WE ARE NOT KEEPING THEM IN THE TIGHT BOX. AGE WE MAKE THAT DETERMINATION ON BE HALF OF THESE. EVEN IF SOMETHING IS NOT ON THE LIST OR FEEL SOMEONE I OF SEVERE CONDITION AND SEVERE RISK I SHOULD SAY FOR COVID. DOCTORS HAVE DIGRESSION TO ALLOW TO IT MOVE FORWARD. >> ALL RIGHT. HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO THIS CRITICISM AND OVER PATROL BEING ABLE TO GO BEFORE TEACHERS. SKI PATROL PROVIDING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE AND ESSENTIALLY FRONT LINE MEDICAL FRONT LINE MEDICAL SERVICES LIKE EMT. THEY ARE EMT SO TEACHERS DONE PROVIDE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE AND WE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO. IT IS LAKE SCHOOL NURSE. THEY GET TO GO EARLIER, TOO. IF THEY ARE PROVIDING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AN REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE JOB TITLE IS THOSE ARE THE FOLKS WE VACCINATE, YEAH. BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE TO RUSH IN TO TAKE CARE OF SOMEONE THAT IS VULNERABLE. YEAH. >> DOE HAVE A STATUS UPDATE ON THE JAIL AND HOW THAT IS GOING AND HOW MANY CASES? >> IN TERMS OF NUMBERS I DON’T KNOW REPORT. >> SO HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY CORRECTION WITH 104 RESIDENT CASES AND 24 STAFF CASES NEW HAMPSHIRE PUBLIC HEALTH IS NO WORKING WITH THE HILLS BORO HOUSE OF CORRECTIONS TWICE A WEEK ON SITE TO PROVIDE THEM IN PERSON GUIDANCE AND CONSULTATION TO HELP TREND DOWN THE OUTBREAK RIGHT NOW. SO THEY ARE VERY ACTIVE IN THAT OUTBREAK. >> SURE. >> WOULD YOU LIKE COMMENTING AND WE TALKED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO ABOUT THE PROJECTIONS AMONG HEALTH CARE WORKERS. S THAT IMPROVED AT WALL THE STATUS NOW? >> YEAH. IT HAS IMPROVED. WHAT WE’RE SEEING IS THERE A PEOPLE NO MATTER WHAT THE NEW TREATMENT OR THE NEW TECHNOLOGY WHERE PEOPLE ARE UPFRONT SAYING YES WILL TAKE THIS AND THEN THERE IS FLAGS THAT WILL SAY I WILL WATCH MY COWORKERS TAKE IT AND IF THEY ARE OK THEN WILL TAKE. THAT IS WHAT WE’RE SEEING NOW IS HEALTH CARE WORKERS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN AMBIVALENT OR HESITANT IN THE FIRST WEEK OR TWO ARE NOW STEPPING UP AT FURTHER CLINICCANCE SAYING OK. I WANT TO GIT NOW. OK. WE’RE SEEING THAT RATE OF ACCEPTANCE GOING UP IN THE HEALTH CARE FIELD, YES. GOVERNOR. DO WE HAVE QUESTIONS ON THE PHONE? >> SURE, GOVERNOR. WE DO. THE FIRST QUESTION FRO W “THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.” HOLLY, PLEASE GO AHEADED WITH YOUR QUESTION. REPORTER: HI. FOLLOWING UP THE EARLIER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROCESS WHEN WE ARE IN THE NEXT PHASE AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS PRIMARY CARE DOCTORS AND OTHERS ALSO LEARN ABOUT JUS HAVING THE WORK TO HANDLE ALL OF THESE AND PEOPLE NEED THE ELIGIBILITY AND CONCERNED ABOUT THAT LOCATION. IT IS THERE ANY PLANS TO USE A EXTRA FUNDING TO THOSE PROVIDERS TO COVER THOSE KIND OF COSTS? >> NO. NO. LOOK. ARE QUESTIONING FOR FOLKS TO CALL THE DOCTOR TO CONFIRM YOU HAVE TWO OF THE VERY SEVERE MEDICAL CONDITIONS. YES. LOT OF THOUGH WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CONFIRMED BECAUSE — I DON’T KNOW MANY FOLKS WHO HAVE CANCER OR GOING THROUGH CANCER TREATMENT AND THEIR DOCTOR DOESN’T IMMEDIATELY KNOW ABOUT IT. A LOT OF IT WILL BE PRETTY EASY, FRANKLY, AND THERE COULD BE PATIENTS I THOSE THAT DOCTORS DON’T KNOW AS WELL AND THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH. SUPPOSE THAT COULD TAKE A LITTLE EXTRA TIME. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT THE BIG PEST HEALTH CRISIS IN THE STATE’S HISTORY. IF OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS DOCTORS HAVE TO SPEND EXTRA TIME GOING THROUGH AND DOUBLE-CHECKING THOSE ARE MEDICALLY VULNERABLE ARE FIRST IN LINE AS THEY SHOULD BE AND THAN I THINK THAT IS A VERY APPROPRIATE SYSTEM AND IT IS ASKING A SIMPLE SYSTEM AND ALL THEY DO IS SAY THEY CHECK THE BOX AND PUT THEM IN THE SYSTEM TO GET REGISTERED. I CAN’T THINK OF ANYTHING SIMPLER. TOM DO THE OTH WAY. ARE OPENING IT UP TO EVERYBODY IN THE STATE. IF THERE IS NO VERIFICATION AND SAYING THOSE THAT ARE VULNERABLE SHOULD BE GOING FIRST HO WAY TO VERIFY ANY OF THAT. NO CHECKS ON THAT SYSTE THE RISK IS THAT EVERYBODY PILES IN. THEY TEST TO WHATEVER THEY WANT. THOSE THAT ARE MEDICALLY VULNERABLE BECAUSE OF THE LIMITATION OF VAC STREN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ARE PUSHED TO THE BACK O THE LINE. THAT IS NOT FAIR. THAT IS NOT RIGHT. THAT IS NOT GOING TO GET FA ACTUALLYS AND THE RISK LEVEL DOWN THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. OF COURSE. YEAH. WE’RE ASKING EVERYONE IS PUTTING IN EXTRA HOURS HERE. EVERYBODY IS. AND YOU KNOW, I APPRECIATE YOU KNOW, I APPRECIATE THAT I GUESS THERE COULD BE DOCTORS WITH A FEW HUNDRED PHONE CALLS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS. YOU KNOW? IT IS A LITTLE EXTRA WORK. I TOTALLY GETS IT. I APPRECIATE IT. YES. WE’RE ASKING THEM TO DO THAT ON BEHALF OF THOUGH WHO NEED TO GO FIRST WHO NEED HAIR LIVES PROTECTED BECAUSE THEY ARE VULNERABLE AND SEEN THE RATE SO HIGH FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT CAN BE MEDICALLY VULNERABL THE NEXT QUESTION COMES FROM PAUL HAYS WITH THE CALEDONIA RECORD. PAUL, PLEASE GO AHEAD WITH THE QUESTION. REPORTER: HI. WE’RE CONNING UP ON MLK DAY. WE ARE COMING UP ON MLK DAY. CAN YOU POINT OUT TO GOVERNOR: I AM SORRY, EXAMPLES OF PROGRESS CONCERNING SOCIAL AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY? CONCERNING WHAT WE’RE DOING WITH THE COMMISSION AND LAW ENFORCEMENT IN PARTICULAR? YOU MENTIONED MINNEAPOLIS. WANT TO MAKE SURE I AM ANTICIPATING YOUR QUESTION APPROPRIATELY. REPORTER: RIGHT. SOCIAL JUSTICE CAUSES IN GENERA YOU KNOW? SHOULD POINT TO OTH ASPECTS OF MAKE PROGRESS IN THOSE GENERAL AREAS. GOVERNOR: WELL I GOT SAY. THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY COMMISSION WAS — WUT A DOUBT THE MOST PROGRESSIVE YOU ARE GOING TO FIND. ONE OF THE BEST PAIGE PROCESSES YOU WILL FINAL ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE FACT WE DID IT WITH SUCH SPEED. WE DID IT WITH SUCH INCLUSION FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT TO THE THOSE ASKING FOR IT AND DEMANDING AND RIGHTLY EXPECTING SOME SENSE OF BALANCE IN THE SYSTEMS AND YOU CALL SOCIAL JUST TINS THE SYSTEM AND MORE ACCOUNTABILITY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT WHATEVER IT MAY BE. THE FACT THAT WE PUT FORTH SO MANY RECOMMENDATION ALL OF WHICH WERE UNANIMOUS AMONGST THAT GROUP AND ALL OF WHICH. I COULD GO THROUGH AND START LISTING EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF THAT. THERE WERE WAS SO. IT TOUCHED LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. IT TOUCHED OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM AND IT TOUCHED OUR DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY ALL ASPECTS OF IT. IT TOUCHED OUR PAR OF OUR CULTURE CULTURAL ASPECTS OF THE COMMUNITY WITHIN THE COME THINS THEMSELVESES SO THAT COMMISSION WAS REALLY ALL ENCOMPASSING WHICH IS WHY IT DID A PHENOMENAL JOB SO I DON’T MEAN TO BE — GIVE YOU THE BRAVE THINK OF ANSWER OTHER THAN SAY ALL THE DIFFERENT RECOMMENDATIONS BUILT INTO THAT I THINK WERE TREMENDOUS THEN JUST RAISING THAT HEIGHTENED AWARENESS FOR ALL OF US. WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE WITH OUR SCHOOLS WHATEVER IT MAY BE THAT WE HAVE TO TAKE OUR DISCUSSION TO THE NEXT LEVEL. WE HAVE TOUND ERRED STANDING IT. WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE ALL SIDES HAVE A VIEWPOINT. WE’RE NOT GOING TO AGREE ON EVERYVIEW PINT IN EVERY ACTION ITEM GOING FORWARD BUT THE FACT THAK SO MUCH OF WHAT WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH UNANIMOUS AND IN AGREEMENT AND A LOT OF IT IS LEGISLATIVELY DRIVEN SOME OF IT EXECUTIVE ORDER DRIVEN. SOME OF IT IS FUNDING AND RENNING MEN DATIONS PUT FORTH IN THE COMMUNITY, SO THERE IS A LOFT MEAT ON THE BONES SO TO SAY. THAT JOIST THE FIRST STEP, RIGHT. THE WHOLE POINT IS. LET’S START GETTING THIS. SOME OF THIS AND THAT UNDER THE WINGS AND THEN WE’LL MAKE IT A LIVING BREATHING DOCUMENT AND REVISIT IT AGAIN IN SEX MONTHS OAR YEAR OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE. SEE WHAT WORKS AND DIDN’T AND PUT NEW STUFF ON THE TABLE. I THINK WE TAKE SOME VERY PROGRESSIVE AND APPROPRIATE STEPS IN ALL MANNERS OF THAT ISSUE. >> AND THE NEXT QUESTION COMES FROM NANCY WEST WITH NEW HAMPSHIRE. NANCY, PLEASE GO AHEAD WITH YOUR QUESTION. >> YEAH. GOOD AFTERNOON, GOVERNOR. I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS. I UNDERSTANDED YOU HAVE TO REVIEW EACH QUESTIONER AFTER THEY ARE DONE ASKING THE QUESTION. I WILL ASK THEM ALL UPFRONT. GOVERNOR: SURE. REPORTER: UNFORTUNATELY, PAUL TRACY DID A GREAT JOB COVERING THE PRESS CONFERENCES IS UNAVAILABLE TODAY. GOVERNOR: I WILL WRITE THEM DOWN AS YOU GO. I WILL WRITE THEM DOWN. GO AHEAD >> Reporter: I SHOULD HAVE WHERE IT BE THEM DOWN. OK. THEY ARE CONCERNED BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO DRIVE EVEN THE FIRST RESPONDERS TO GET THE VACCINATIONS. THERE ARE NO VACCINATION SITES AND EMERGENCY VACCINATION SITES. THAT IS GOING TO CONTINUE WHEN THE BARS CHANGE? ALSO DO WE HAVE A SHORT AGE OF VAC SEEPS? I MEAN IF WE HAVE MORE VACCINES COULD PEOPLE BE VACCINATED QUICKER? WHAT COULD SPEED UP THE PROCESS OF GETTING MORE VACCINES MORE QUICKLY IN NEW HAMPSHIRE? THEN THE OTHER THING IN THE REGION WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT IS THE LOOK OF COMMUNICATION. EVEN THE PEOPLE WHO A PART OF THEIR COVID IN THE AREASES HAVE NO IDEA, NO CL WHAT TO EXPECT IN THEM COOING DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS I AM ALSO SAYING THE DOCTORS WILL BE HOLD. WHAT IS NOW EXPECTED OF THEM. AND ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR BACK FAR MINUTE PERHAPS TEACHERS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED MEDICAL CARE HOPEFULLY TO STUDENTS THAT THEY HAVE CLOSE CONTACT AND WHY ARE THEY YOU KNOW SO FAR DOWN THE LADDE ON GETTING THE VACCINE WHEN I THINK A LOT OF FAMILIES AND A LOT OF TEACHERS WOULD FEEL A LOT MORE CONFIDENT ABOUT KEEPING AL AND GETTING THE SCHOOLS REOPENED AND IF THE TEACHERS WERE ABLE TO GET THE VACCINE A LOT OF QUESTIONS. NOW THE VACCINE REMAINS AT WHAT YOU HOPE FOR MORE. AROUND 18,000 DOSES A WEE HOW LONG IL I WILL IT TAK >> OK. I AM READY. HERE WE GO. OK. I WROTE DOWN AS FAST AS I COULD. I WILL DO MY BEST. CONCER ABOUT THE DISTANCE THAT SOME OF THE FIRST RESPONDERS RESPOND. GROUP 1A WAS THE HIGHEST RISK POPULATION AS WALT AS FIRST RESPONDERS WERE PLE OPEN WITHED UP SIX FIXED SIGHTINGS ACROSS THE STATE WHERE WE HAVE THOSE OPEN NOW. >> WE WILL BAL A ADDING MORE. THE QUICK ANSWER TON THE ANSWER. AS WE EXPAND THE POPULATIONS THAT WILL NEED VACCINATION AND WILL BE EXPANDING OUR FIXED SITE AS WELL. AND MAYBE SOME HOSPITALS THAT OPEN THEIR OWN FIXED SITES SO IT IS REALLY A FUNCTION OF THE AMOUNT OF VACCINE WHERE WE AR RECEIVING AND THE VEIL K AND WE GO TO 1B AS WE REALLY EXPANDING THAT TO ANOTHER 300 THOUSAND INDIVIDUALS WE WILL DEFINITELY BE EXPANDING THE NUMBER OF SITES ACROSS THE STATE TO MAKE IT EASIER AND MORE ACCESSIBLE OF COURSE. SO DO WE HAVE A SHORTAGE OF VACCINES WE USE EVERY BIT OF VACCINE THAT GOES IN, GOES RIGHT NOW. WE DON’T HOLD ON TO ANY IT. OTHER THAN A DAY OR SO TO GET IT TO WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE IF IT WERE DOM TO THE STATE. MOST OF THE VACCINE IS SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO EITHER CVS AND WALGREENS FOR THE LONG TERM CARE OPENER THE HOSPITALS DIRECTLY AND IN THE FUTURE. 1:00 T SHIPMENT AND LOGISTICS WORK VERY WELL. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SIMPL PROVIDES US OUR SHARE PRETTY MUCH EQUAL TO EVERY OTHER STATE. AND WE GET THAT AS FAST A AS WE CAN. I THINK WE ARE RANKED 12th AS OF TODAY. THAT CAN MOVE UP AND DOWN. I THINK WE ARE RANKE IN TERMS OF GETTING IT OUT QUICKLY AND THIS I ADMINISTRATION. THAT IS SHOTS IN ARMS AND DISTRIBUTION AND ALMOST EVERYTHING AND SHOTS IN ARMS WERE RANKED 12th SO THAT IS A GOOD MARKER BUT WE’LL KEEP IT UP AND ALWAYS LOVE TO SEE THINGS GO A LITTLE FASTER IF WE COULD. THE MAIN 90% OF OUR FACTORS SIM BLAH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS KNOW PROVIDING TO US. SO THOUGH THIRD QUESTION WAS A LOOK OF COMMUNICATION AND IN TERMS OF WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS THE COMING DAINS WEEKS I GAVE YOU 20 MINUTES OF WHAT TO EXPECT AND WHO WILL BE WITH IN THE PHASES AND EXACTLY WHAT TO DO AS A CITIZEN IF YOU QUALIFY AS ONE OF THOSE PHASES FROM WHO TO CALL OR WHAT WEB STATE TO VISIT AND WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AND WHY THE DATES THE TIMES AND THEY MAILS THAT WHE FOLKS REGISTER INTO THE SYSTEM THEY WILL GET A CONFIRMATION E-MAIL THAT WILL TAKE THEM TOLL A SITE WHERE THEY PICKED LOCATION AND TIME BASED ON AVAILABILITY. SO THAT IS IT. WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE THINGS SIMPLE AND I THINK WE’LL ALSO BE GETTING BETWEEN NOW AND THE 22nd WE’LL KEEP COMMUNICATING WITH DOCTORRANCE MAKING SURE THEY GET THEIR HEALTH ALERTS NOTIFICATIONS IN TERMS OF THAT IS HEALTH ALERT THAT IS WHAT IT IS. TERM INS OF WHAT IS EXED ON THEIR END FAN THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS WHO TO CONTACT AND HOW TO MAKE THESE CERTIFICATIONS OR ER FROMMALS IF YOU WILL AND INTO THE SYSTEM AND ALLOW FOLK STROS ACCESS THAT ARE VULNERABLE SO WE’LL CONTINUE TO TALK TO THEM AND WORK WITH THEM AND AGAIN WE HAVE THAT IS WHY YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO EDGE ARE REGISTER FOR ANOTHER WEEK AND MAKE SURE WE DOT THE I HE AND CROSS THE T’S TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS READY TO GO AND MEET THE EXPECT TATION OF THE CITIZENS. TEAMER LOOK. WE APPRECIATE THAT TEACHERS ARE IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH KIDS BUT GETTING THE VACCINE RIGHT NOW HAS TO BE ABOUT THOSE THAT ARE OF THE HIGHEST RISK OF FATALITY THOSE OF THE HIGHEST RISK OF BEING PUT IN A HOSPITAL AND THOSE THAT CARE FOR THOSE THAT ARE OF HIGHEST RISK OF HAVING FATALITY OR BEEPING IN THE HOSPITAL. THAT IS THE FIRST 400,000 INDIVIDUALS BY ALL MENS THE TEACHERS MEETS ANY OF THE MEDICAL CONDITIONS AND TEACHER IS OVER 65 AND THEY ARE IN IT LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE. BUT THIS ALL HAS TO BE ABOUT LOWERING THE DEATH RATE AND THE HOSPITALIZATION RATE. TEACHERS OTHER THAN HEALTH CARE WORKERS ARE REALLY THE ONLY OTHER WORK FORCE THAT HAS BEEN OUTLINED AND IDENTIFIED AS HAVING A SPECIFIC PLACE IN THE PROCESS. WE GOT LETTERS AND REQUESTS FROM CERT ARE VIRTUALLY EVERY VIVIYOU CAN HANE GIN FROM T RADIO BROADCASTERS TO THE MEATPACKERS EVERYONE MAKING A CASE WHY THEY SHOW BE FIRST AND APPRECIATE ALL OF THAT. I REALLY DO. YOU ARE NO? HE FOR ALL. AND I WILL GO BROADER THAN THE TEACHERS IF I MAY. LET’S TAKE FOLKS WHO WORKED IN A GROCERY STER AND CONTACT ALL THE TIME. WE APPRECIATE THAT. IT IS HO THE WORKER IN THE GROCERY STORE PER SAY. THE HEALTHY 40-YEAR-OLD WORKER. IT IS NOT THEM THAT HAS TO BE PRIORITIZED TODAY. IT MAY MAY BE AND IT IS THEIR PARENTS OR IT IS THEIR LOVED ONE OR NEIGHBORS THAT HAS MEDICAL CONDITION AND THEY HAVE TO COME BEFORE THAT WORKER. THEN THEY WE’LL GET THAT WORKER LIKE ME. FARLEY HEALTHY. 46 YEARS OLD. I LOOKED UP THE OTHER DAY. IT WAS 46 I KEEP SAYING 47. AM STILL 46 APPARENTLY T. THERE WILL BE A TIME FOR MY DEMOGRAPHIC AS WELL. WE KNOW A LOT OF INDIVIDUALS COME IN CONTACT WITH INDIVIDUAL TEACHERS OR OTHERWISE BUT WE HAVE TO PUT THOSE INDIVIDUALS OF HIGH HEST RISKS ABOUT EVER THEM. THAT ONLY MAKES LOGICAL SONS. SO I A APPRECIATE THE NO ONE WANTS TO GET SCHOOLS OPEN I THINK EVERY SCHOOL CAN BE OPEN ACROSS THE STATE WITHOUT A DOUBT AND SAFELY AND I AM FRUSTRATED THAT THERE IS A LOT OF PUSHBACK FROM FOLKS I KNOW THE TEACHERS UNION HAS BEEN CLEAR. THEY DON’T WANT TO OPEN CERTAIN SCHOOLS. THAT IS WHY DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICAN IS A LIKE I DON’T CARE WHAT THE PARTY AFFILIATION IS. PARENTS ARE BEGGING FOR SCHOOLSES TO OPEN UP. THEY SHOULD BE OPEN. AND MAKI SURES THE ARE VULNERABLE IT IS ONLY FAIR AND THAT IS WHAT PAIGEING THIS CRIES CRISIS US IS ALL ABOUT. THEN, BE WHAT DO WE DO IF T VACCINE AMOUNT DOESN’T CHANGE IN IF WE ARE ONLY GETTING A ROUND NUMBER, BALLPARK, 20,000 VIALS OF VACCINE WEEK. YEAH. WE’LL GET OUT AS FAST AS WE CAN. WE’LL STICK AND WORK THROUGH THE PRAY ORGANIZATION AS FAST AS WE CAN. SURE. IT WOULD TAKE A LONG TIME TO GET THROUGH 1.35 MILLION PEOPLE. NOW WE KNOW NOT EVERYBODY WOULD TAKE IT. MAYBE YOU WOULD GET 7% OR 757% THAT IS A BALLPARK MUM BEFORE HE INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THE STATE THAT MAY WANT THE VACCINE. MAYBE LESS. SO YOU STILL TALKING ABOUT HAVING TO VACCINATE 6 TO 7 TO 800,000 PEOPLE AND AT 20,000 VIALS A WEEK NO KNOWING EVERYONE NEEDS TWO DOSES THAT WOULD TAKE QUITE SOME TIME. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS THOSE, WILL SAY IT, THE 400,000 PEOPLE THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IN PHASE 1A, PHASE 1B, THAT MAKE UP THE DEMOGRAPHICS THAT COMPRISE 95% OF THE FATALITIES TEACHERS IN THEMSELVES DON’T MAKE UP 95% OF THE FATALITIES. GROCERY STORES IN THEMSELVES DOP MAKE UP 59 WERE? 65 AND OLDER THAT IS 95% OF THE FATALITIES. THAT IS Y AS FAST AS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL GIVE IT US TO. WE’LL PUT IT IN AROUNDS AND THE FOLKS HAVE TO COME FIRST. WHEN THAT MAP PENS WHEN THE FIRST 400,000 HAVE THE FIRST AND SECOND DOSE. I WOULDN’T KNOW HOW YOU WOULD NOT SEE. A MASSIVE DROP IN FATALITIES. THAT IS ONLY THE NEXT LOGICAL STEP UNLESS THE VIRUS WERE TO MU TAUT AGAIN OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. WE FEEL VERY, VERY CONFIDENT THIS IS THE RATING WAY TO GO AND THIS IS HE HOW WE GET OUT OF THE SITUATION FASTER. AND THAT IS WHAT IT IS BAWL A THIS POINT. WE KNOW THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL AND WANT TO GET OUT AS FAST AS WE CAN. OK. I GOT ALL FIVE THERE. OK. LET’S DO IT. YOU BET. REPORTER: ALL RIGHT. THE NEXT QUESTION FROM JORDAN AT NEW HAMPSHIRE PUB BLIG RADIO. JORDAN, PLEASE GO AHEAD WITH YOUR QUESTIO REPORTER: YEAH. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU ARE TAKING ANY ACTION AGAINST THE NURSIN FACILITIES THAT PRIORITIZES NUMBERS ALONG MESS ARE RESIDENTS AND HEALTH CARE WOE. THERE IS ANY PLANS FOR THINGS LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN? THEY HAPPEN TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN’T HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE? >> THE STATES INTO PLANS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST THAT INDIVIDUAL FACILITY AND I THINK WE ALL WERE SHOCKED WHEN WE HEARD THEY H PUT INDIVIDUALS AHEAD OF OTHER FOLKS THAT PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRIORITIZED AND WE HOPE IT SERVES AS AN EXAM POLE TO OTHERS ACROSS THE STATE AND THEY GOT TO PLAY BY THE RULES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. IT SEEMS TO BE ISOLATED AM WE HOPE IT REMAINS THAT WA >> GOVERNOR, CAN WE HEAR FROM THREE ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE SEEN NEW VARIANTS OF T COVID 307UP? >> YEAH. THANKS FOR THAT QUESTION. QUESTION IS ABOUT THE NEW VARIANT OR THE CIRCULATI STRAINS OF THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS AND THE SHORT ANSWER IS NO. WE HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED, YET, ANY OF THESE NEW MERGING VARIANTS OF CONCERN THAT ARE BEING SEEN 3:00 IN OTHER PLACINGS OF THE WORLD LIKE THE UK AND SOUTH AFRICA, BRAZIL, NOW OTHER PLACES IN THE UNITED STATES. I WILL SAY THAT THERE IS EXPECTATION THAT AS WITH ANY VIES THAT YOU CIRCULATES THERE IS A CERTAIN RATE OF CHANGE OR MUTATION IN THE VIRUS AND I THINK WHAT HAS BEEN SEEN WITH THE VARIANTS ARE THERE ARE MORE MUTATIONS THAT HAS LEAD TO SOME CONCERN ABOUT THESE STRAINS BEING MORE INFECTIOUS OR MORE TRANSMISSIBLE AND SPREAD BETWEEN PEOPLE. THERE ARE EFFORTS UNDERWAY NOT ONLY IN NEW HAMPSHIRE BUT ALSO NATIONALLY TO IN CRASS THE GENETIC SEQUENCING OF POSITIVE SPECIMENS THAT HAVE TO TRAY TO IDENTIFY IF AND WHEN WE HAVE ANY OF THESE VARANS IDENTIFIED IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND SO OUR PUBLIC HEALTH LAB IS CURRENTLY WORKING TO TRY INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF GENETIC TESTING WE ARE DOING ON THE STRAINS AND BUT WE HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED YET AND CERTAINLY WE WITH WILL BE HEARING MORE ABOUT IT IF AND WHEN WE DO. >> THANKS. >> GOVERNOR, REGARDING THE POTENTIAL LAST ONE, AS FOR NEIGHBORS OF THE STATE HOUSE, BUSINESS, RESIDENTS NEARBY, HAVE YOU HAD ANY SORT OF COMMUNICATION WITH THEM? IF SO, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MESSAGE? GOVERNOR: I HAVE NOT HAD DIRECT COMMUNICATION. I KNOW THE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY DOES NOT STATE THE STATE HOUSE INDIVIDUALLY. THERE ARE OTHER POTENTIAL TARGETS IN THE STATE AND LOOKING AT THAT AS WELL. OBVIOUSLY COMMUNICATING TO MAKE SURE THAT PRESS SINCE KNOWN AND CAN ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AMONGST THE COMMUNITY. LEAVE THAT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY AND THE NATIONAL GUARD. REPORTER: GOVERNOR, A SEARCHES BREAKDOWN IN PHASE 1B AND HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE GETTING THEIR SHOT FROM PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN VERSUS FIXED LOCATIONS? THERE IS A BALLPARK SENSE OF HOW THAT IS? >> THE QUESTION, SO THE QUESTION IS, WHAT BALLPARK PERCENTAGE OF HOW MUCH WILL BE WHERE FOLKS WILL BE GETTING I THINK THE MAJORITY WILL LAKELY COME FROM MOST OF THE FIXED SITE AND THE EASIEST WAY TO DO IT OR THE HOSPITAL BUT I DON’T KNOW IF — BECAUSE THE WAY THE VACCINE COMES IN, FOR EXAMPLE. IT IS IT PFIZER WE GET 900 IN A SHIPMENT AT ONCE. SO TO TAKE THAT AND BREAK IT UP AND SEND FIVE DOSES TO DR. SMITH AND FIVE DOSES TO DR. JONES, THAT BECOMES DIFFICULT. LE PEOPLE HAVE TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS TO GO TO SEE THEIR DOCTOR AND THAT AND OPPOSED TO THE FIXED SITES WHERE WE’RE TEARING THEM OUT A LOT FASTER TO GET THE THREW-PUT WE WANT TO SEE AND WE’LL TRY TO PUSH PEOPLE TO HAVE THEIR OWN SYSTEMS SET UP OR FIXED SITES AND A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR FOLLOWS BUT ALL OF WHICH ARE DESIGNED FOR FAST THREW PUT. REPORTER: DECIDE WHEN A CERTAIN PHASE IS DONE AND MOVE ON. PROBABLY WON’T BE 100% FINISHED. WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE SIGN? THERE IS NO LINE. WHEN ARE WE DONE IN WE’RE NOT BECAUSE TKCALLY MAYBE SOMEONE YOU WILL GO INA LONG TOMORROW CARE IN MAY OR MARCH OR APRIL AND THEN THEY BECOME AVAILABLE. END THAT BULK WE HAVE NOW. AND MAJORITY AND THEN ONGOING PROCESS AND IT WILL BE KIND OF A MAINTENANCE INITIAL AND THE BOOSTE SHOTS SO NO, THEY DON’T END BUT THEY WILL OBVIOUSLY AND MOST OF THE FOLKS AS WE ENTER MARCH WILL BE PRAIM ARLEY IN THE 1B GROUP AND STILL SOME MAYBE SOME FOLKS DECIDE NOT GET THE VACCINE TODAY THAT IS OK. MAYBE THEY CHOOSE TO DO IT TWO MONTHS FROM NOW AND THEY CAN DO THAT. IF THEY ARE IN PHASE 1 TODAY. THE DOOR DOESN’T SHUT ON THEM TOMORROW. REPORTER: IF WE HAVE FOLKS THAT WEEK WHO COOPERATE. WE GOT SYSTE. WE COULD DO THIS. IN OTHER WORDS WE COULD BE A FIXED SITE TO DELIVER VACCINE FOR THE STATE AS THIS RAMPS UP FURTHER AND FURTHER. I AM SURE YOU HAVE SEEN THE DODGER STADI NOW. THEY GIVE AS MAN NUZ AS 12,000. GILLETTE STADIUM IS A SITED. THAT IS AN OPTION GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND ACTUALLY GOING A VACCINATION SITE SYSTEM THAT GOES BEYOND THE FIXED SITE. GOVERNOR. ABSOLUTELY. YEAH. WE TALKED ABOUT HOW TO OPEN UP A MASSIVE VACCINATION SITE. I THINK AS MASSACHUSETTS IS USING GILLETTE STADIUM, MAYBE. RIGHT NOW WE GET 17,000 DOSES A WEEK. YOU CAN MOVE ALMOST THAT MUCH THROUGH IN A COUPLE OF DAYS DID AT ONE OF THOSE MASS SITES AND SINGLE SITE HERE. WE DON’T GET ENOUGH VACCINE TO RAMP UP TO THAT LEV YET. THAT IS ON THE TABLE. WE COULD OPEN IT UP AS POSSIBILITY AND GREAT, GREAT OPTION FRANKLY IF WE STARTED ROLLING I 50-60-100,000 VIALS A WEEK OR SOMETHING LIKE TO. AND HAVING GIANT SITE THAT COULD CHURN IT OUT. THAT IS ON THE TABL GOVERNOR: INTERNALS OF THE CONGRESSIONAL VOTE? I WAS CLEAR. YOU KNOW, WHEN IT COMES TO THE ACTUAL — TO TAKE A STEP BACK TO WHAT HAPPENED A WEEK AGO WEDNESDAY, AND I REALLY DO BELIEVE AND I THINK MOST PEOPLE WOOL AGREE THE PRESIDENT’S WORDS REALLY INSITED THE UNFORTUNATE ACTIONS THAT TOOK PLACE FOLLOWING THAT. I GOT TO BE FRANK. I AM NOT TRYING TO BE DISMISSIVE OF IT. CONGRESS — I WILL DEFER TO CONGRESS TO MAKE THOSE DECISION. WE GOT SO MUCH ON OUR PLATE NOW. I DON’T HAVE A SA SAY IN THAT PROCESS. DON’T HAVE INPUT IN THAT PROCESS. I AM TRYING TO MANAGE VACCINES, A BUDGET, COVID. WE GOT A LOT ON OUR PLATE. IT WOULD BE A DISSERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE IF I STARTED FOCUSING ON WASHINGTON, D.C. AND NOT WHAT IS AT HOME, SO I WILL LEAVE IT THERE. OK. GREAT. ALL RIGHT. THANKS EVERYONE. AGAIN WE’LL BE BACK NEXT WEEK AND WE’LL HAVE MORE INFORMATION AND ANSWER MORE QUESTIONS AND CLEARLY THE TEAM HERE IN THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE HAS DONE PHENOMENAL JOB MOVING THE VACCINE OUT. WE HAVE A PLAN WE WANT CITIZENS TO KNOW WHAT TO DO WHEN THIS INFORMATION WILL BE THAT WE PRESENTED WILL BE AVAILABLE OB THE WEBSITE SO FEEL FREE TO GO AND REVIEW AND THEN AGAIN. TH VACCINES.NH. GOV THAT WILL BE UP UP AND RUNNING ON JANUARY 22nd FOR THOSE IN PHASE 1B AND WE ARE GOING TO HAVE AS MANY AVAILABLE SLOTS AS VACCINE THAT WE ARE GOING TO GET. AS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GIVES MORE. WE’LL OPEN UP MORE OF THOSE TIME SLOTS TO MAKE IT AVAILABLE SO WE ASK FOLKS TO BE PATIENT AND TRIED TO MAKE IT AS SIMPLE AS PROCESS WE AS WE DOON ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN AND WE ALL GET INT

NATIONAL UPDATES

Coronavirus deaths are rising in nearly two-thirds of American states as a winter surge pushes the overall toll toward 400,000. Mutations are rapidly popping up, and the longer it takes to vaccinate people, the more likely it is that a variant that can elude current tests, treatments and vaccines could emerge. The coronavirus is becoming more genetically diverse, and health officials say the high rate of new cases is the main reason.

Layered face masks have been spotted on everyone from President-elect Joe Biden to New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick to essential workers on public transportation and at the grocery store. But is wearing two face masks actually more effective than wearing one? Here’s what experts had to say.

Emerging evidence suggests new coronavirus variant could be problematic for vaccines

The variant was first spotted in South Africa in October and has now been found in more than a dozen countries.

In both studies, the work was done in the lab and not in people, so more research is needed to gauge the true threat of the new variant.

In the most recent study, which was small, researchers took antibodies from six people who were hospitalized with Covid-19 before the new variant was discovered. They found to varying degrees, that antibodies for all six of the survivors were unable to fully fight off the virus.

“I think the evidence is building that these mutations — and I think other mutations — will emerge across the globe — and are emerging already — that are escaping antibodies from previous infection,” Alex Sigal, a virologist at the Africa Health Research Institute and the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, told CNN. “It’s concerning.”

It’s unclear whether this means someone would be vulnerable to the new variant if they’d already had Covid-19, or what this might mean for people who’ve been vaccinated.

Sigal’s findings were very similar to those of a study released Tuesday by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa.

“When you see two groups independently arriving at same basic answer, that good — there’s more consonance that they are correct,” said Jesse Bloom, a virologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

A third study, also released Tuesday, showed that mutations in the new variant allowed them to evade some of the immunity induced by vaccination, but it was far from a complete escape.

That study looked at far fewer mutations in the variant than the South African studies examined.

None of the studies were peer reviewed or published in medical journals.

While scientists work out whether these variants are particularly dangerous — and studies are underway in several labs worldwide — one thing is clear: Get the vaccine if you can.

“I would for sure get it if I could,” Sigal said. “My father-in-law had the opportunity to fly to Israel and get it, and I was shooing him out of the house because you can’t get it here in South Africa.”

A trio of studies

In his research, Sigal found that antibodies from all six study subjects failed to fully fight off the new variant.

“One participant had a fairly good response, but nobody escaped unscathed,” he said.

The study was posted on the website for KRISP, the Kwazulu-Natal Research Innnovation and Sequencing Platform. The other two studies were posted on a pre-print server.

In the study that had similar findings, blood was drawn from 44 people in South Africa who’d had Covid-19. Nearly all of their cases were confirmed to have occurred prior to September, which is before the variant was spotted in South Africa.

The researchers then looked to see whether their antibodies would fight off the new variant.

For about half of the 44 people, their antibodies were powerless against the new variant. For the other half, the antibody response was weakened, but not totally knocked out.

In the third study, done at Rockefeller University, researchers looked at blood from 20 people who had received either the Moderna or the Pfizer vaccine. Different mutations in the viruses did allow some escape from some types of antibodies, but the volunteers’ immune systems threw an army of different types of antibodies at the viruses.

The Rockefeller study looked at fewer mutations than the two South African studies. It looked at three key mutations on the spikes that sit atop the coronavirus, since that’s the part of the virus targeted by the vaccines.

“That’s useful, but still not the complete story,” said John Moore, a vaccine researcher at Weill Cornell Medicine.

The South African studies, however, used the virus itself, or a model of it, which contained eight spike mutations.
