New York Yankees newcomer Corey Kluber takes another step after 2 lost years

TAMPA, Fla. — Corey Kluber overcame occasional wildness, allowing two runs and four hits over four innings in his second spring start, and the New York Yankees beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 on Saturday.

Kluber is a two-time Cy Young Award winner with his third team in three years. He has thrown just one official inning since being hit on the right forearm by a comebacker in May 2019 and tearing a muscle in his right shoulder in his Texas debut last July.

Kluber hit two batters, threw a wild pitch and allowed a third-inning solo homer to Troy Stokes Jr. on Saturday. He struck out two in an outing in which the Pirates went down in order just once.

“Some pitches, probably, could have been located a little better, been a little sharper,” Kluber said. “The home run, first pitch, left it a little too much over the plate. Definitely some stuff to work on. Fine-tuning location, things like that.

“I was happy with the way I felt physically.”

The right-hander allowed a leadoff double and hit a batter in the first inning but got out of the jam with a double play. After a perfect second, Kluber gave up Stokes’ homer and then avoided further damage by working out of a two-on, one-out situation.

Kluber, who turns 35 in April, struck out three over two perfect innings in his other start on March 3 against Toronto. He had a live batting-practice session five days later.

After losing to the eventual American League champion Tampa Bay Rays in a five-game division series last year, the Yankees allowed Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton and J.A. Happ to become free agents. They signed Kluber to a one-year, $11 million contract and acquired Jameson Taillon from Pittsburgh for four prospects.

“Looks like himself,” Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu said. “Ball’s moving all over the place.”

New York’s projected rotation also includes ace Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery. Deivi Garcia and Domingo German are among the candidates for the fifth starter spot.

Free-Agent Center Corey Linsley Not Expected to Return to Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. – At the end of the season, All-Pro center Corey Linsley said there had been no talks with the Green Bay Packers toward a new contract.

With the start of free agency less than three weeks away, that has not changed, a source said on Wednesday. The expectation is that Linsley will be playing elsewhere in 2021 and the Packers will be looking to replace their starting center from the past seven seasons.

While there is time to work out a deal with Linsley, it seems unlikely to happen. The Packers had all season to engage in talks with Linsley, and the season ended almost exactly one month ago.

“My agent hasn’t had any talks with the Packers,” Linsley said one day after a bitter loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game – Linsley’s fourth empty trip to the title game in his seven seasons. “That’s obviously not to say something couldn’t happen, but up to this point it’s kind of been complimentary but nothing of substance. We’ll move forward with that. It is what it is. I felt like I personally had a good year. We obviously didn’t get the goal that we wanted to, but I felt like I put out some good film. Hopefully a team values that and we’ll move into free agency with that in mind.”

Linsley’s is a fascinating free agency.

He was voted first-team All-Pro and, for what it’s worth, was by far ProFootballFocus.com’s highest-rated center. According to Sports Info Solutions, Linsley didn’t allow a sack or a stuff (a tackle at or behind the line of scrimmage vs. the run). Among centers with 500-plus snaps, he had the third-lowest blown-block rate at 0.6 percent, according to SIS. He wasn’t penalized, either.

On the other hand, Linsley missed three full games and most of two others due to injuries. After not missing a snap in 2017 and 2018, he played 88 percent in 2019 and 71 percent in 2020. And he’s going to turn 30 right about the time training camps are opening next summer.

The Packers being $11.45 million over the projected salary cap certainly doesn’t help facilitate a re-signing. While there are levers to pull to create ample space, there are 10 centers making at least $10 million per season, led by Ryan Kelly’s $12.4 million average.

The Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens should be among the suitors. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ new coach, Urban Meyer, coached Linsley at Ohio State. The Jaguars have a standout center in Brandon Linder but Linder played guard in college and as a rookie.

Linsley hasn’t been just a superb center but he’s been a pillar of the community. He was the team’s nominee for prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

However, by season’s end, Linsley sounded prepared to leave his teammates and community connections behind.

“I had a talk with a buddy of mine in town,” Linsley said. “The relationships that we made, shoot, we didn’t see anybody this year, anyways, so it’s kind of like a gap year from that standpoint, but the relationships that we built, we’ll always keep in contact with people and see them. Again, it might be infrequent, not as much as it would’ve been here, but our home’s in Ohio, anyway, so it was going to happen sooner or later.

“But we love the people that we’ve met here, the relationships that we’ve built. We’ve been so many fortunate to be a part of so many people’s lives and them being a part of ours. If it doesn’t happen, it stinks. The guys in the locker room, I’m going to miss the guys in the locker room for sure. This locker room’s a great locker room. Again, if it doesn’t happen, the dudes in here are fantastic leaders, can’t say enough about them. So, that’s going to be tough but, other than that, this is a business. I mean it is what it is. Some guys, that’s just what happens.”

Corey Feldman accuses Marilyn Manson of ‘decades long mental and emotional abuse’ in wake of allegations

Manson has denied the allegations, calling them “horrible distortions of reality”. The singer has yet to address Feldman’s claims.

“THE NIGHT @MARILYNMANSON TRIED 2 USE & ABUSE ME AS HIS PLAY TOY BY TRYING 2 MANIPULATE ME N2 [INTO] BREAKING MY 5 YRS of SOBRIETY 2 SNORT COCOAINE W HIM, WHILE GAS LIGHTING ME 4 HIS PRESS TOUR ON #MECHANICALANIMALS WAS WHERE THE DECADES LONG MENTAL & EMOTIONAL ABUSE BEGAN,” wrote Feldman.

The Lost Boys actor continued to state that he was “LUCKILY” not physically harmed, however, claims that the alleged incident “WAS JUST THE BEGINNING OF MY NIGHTMARE!”.

He added: “#ISTANDWITH EVAN & ANY & ALL SURVIVORS OF HIS DEMENTED ABUSE.”

Feldman – who also starred in The Goonies and Stand By Me – claimed that Manson has been “obsessed” with him for over 20 years.

The 49-year-old pointed to the “several passages about me in his book #LONGROADOUTOFHELL”.

Long Road Out of Hell is Manson’s autobiography, which was released in February 1998.

Feldman added that he first met the shock rocker at the premiere for Howard Stern’s 1997 film Private Parts in New York, where “the #GROOMING process began”.

“He grabbed my face in front of the crowd and kissed me w his Black Lip Stick that I couldn’t rub off all night. He proceeded 2 gush over me telling me what a ‘Huge fan’ of mine he was,” said Feldman. “All of this is documented in his book!”

“He brags about it as if I was a special needs person he was making fun of,” he added.

The actor claimed that Manson “heavily pursued a friendship w me. Telling me I was his idol. Telling me he actually got his whole style by watching my film #DREAMALITTLEDREAM & my character #BOBBYKELLER was the inspiration 4 this entire look. IDK if it was the truth but he used it to manipulate me”.

The 1989 romantic comedy Dream a Little Dream saw Feldman play teenager Bobby Keller.

The Independent has contacted Manson’s representative for comment.

On Monday (1 February), Wood, who was in a relationship with Manson between 2007 to 2010, named him as her alleged abuser, writing in an Instagram post: “The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson.

“He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.”

In an Instagram post, Manson wrote: “My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”
