Elon Musk claps back as Saudi prince speaks out on potential Twitter takeover

Tesla CEO Elon Musk clapped back after Saudi Arabian billionaire Prince Alawaleed bin Talal rejected his offer to purchase Twitter for $43 billion.
“I don’t believe that the proposed offer by @elonmusk ($54.20) comes close to the intrinsic value of @Twitter given its growth prospects,” Alaweed tweeted Thursday. “Being one of the largest & long-term shareholders of Twitter, [Kingdom Holding Company] & I reject this offer.”

Alaweed owns a 4.45% stake in Twitter, while Kingdom Holding, the company he owns, owns 0.72% of the company.

“Interesting,” Musk cheekily responded on Twitter. “Just two questions, if I may. How much of Twitter does the Kingdom own, directly & indirectly? What are the Kingdom’s views on journalistic freedom of speech?”
Saudi Arabia’s law does not provide for freedom of expression or for freedom of the press, the U.S. State Department reported in 2018.
“Mass media and all other vehicles of expression shall employ civil and polite language, contribute towards the education of the nation, and strengthen unity,” the Basic Law specifies. “The media are prohibited from committing acts that lead to disorder and division, affect the security of the state or its public relations, or undermine human dignity and rights.”

Authorities are responsible for regulating and determining which speech or expression undermines internal security, and the government can ban or suspend media outlets if it concludes they violated the press and publications law.
The Biden administration declassified a report last year, a report which blamed Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for approving the operation to capture or kill journalist and dissident Jamal Khashoggi.

The Justice Department charged two former Twitter employees in 2019, accusing them of spying for Saudi Arabia in order to target the regime’s critics. When podcaster Alex Barredo brought this to Musk’s attention, he signified his interest in the story.
Musk’s moves on Twitter have bolstered the company’s stock price.

The market value of the social media giant hit $40 billion when he revealed his 9.2% stake in the company this month, according to Dow Jones Market Data Group, up from $29.9 billion back on Jan. 31 when he first began loading up on shares unbeknownst to the investing public.

Kourtney Kardashian isn’t letting anyone critique her role as a mom.
After sharing a series of photos Wednesday from her family’s luxurious vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the Poosh founder, 42, received a comment from one Instagram user who said that the mom of three was “finally” with her kids.
“Oh wow you’re with your kids finally????” the user wrote.
Kardashian, who shares kids Mason, 11, Penelope, 9, and Reign, 6, with ex Scott Disick, promptly replied to the comment, “I’m with my kids every day thank God, social media isn’t always real life. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️”
In the carousel of photos simply captioned, “At sunset,” Kardashian can be seen perched on top of a horse with two of her kids, Penelope and Reign, on horses next to her.

In addition to the family horseback riding photos, Kardashian posted a few cute pics of herself, Penelope and Reign on the beach together. The family trip was in honor of the reality star’s fiancé Travis Barker’s 46th birthday.
Earlier in the day, Barker, who celebrated his birthday on Nov. 14, took to social media to share the incredible surprise his fiancée gifted him for his special day.
“When your dream girl gets you your dream car,” he captioned a series of black-and-white photos of what looks like a black Buick from the ’80s.
In October, the Blink-182 drummer solidified their relationship after he got down on one knee and proposed to Kardashian on the beach at sunset in Montecito, California, while surrounded by candles and hundreds of red roses.
“Kourtney is of course ecstatic,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “She can’t wait to marry Travis. She would also love to have a baby with him.”
William Shatner claps back at George Takei’s body-shaming comments following Blue Origin flight: ‘Don’t hate’
William Shatner had a sassy response to his “Star Trek co-star George Takei, who mocked the 90-year-old actor’s body shape amid his historic flight to space this week.
Taking to Twitter on Friday night, Shatner accused Takei of only becoming relevant when he name-checks him.
“Don’t hate George. The only time he gets press is when he talks bad about me,” Shatner’s tweet reads.
It continues: “He claims 50+ years ago I took away a camera angle that denied him 30 more seconds of prime time TV. I’m giving it back to him now by letting him spew his hatred for the world to see! Bill the [pig emoji].”
The latest development took place this week when Takei mocked Shatner’s fitness amid his flight on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin.
“He’s boldly going where other people have gone before,” snarked Takei, 84, to Page Six when asked about Shatner making history as the oldest person to ever go to space.
“He’s a guinea pig, 90 years old and it’s important to find out what happens,” Takei added while at the opening of “Thoughts of a Colored Man” on Wednesday night.
“So 90 years old is going to show a great deal more on the wear and tear on the human body, so he’ll be a good specimen to study. Although he’s not the fittest specimen of 90 years old, so he’ll be a specimen that’s unfit!”

The actors have famously feuded for years in the public arena. Takei has accused Shatner of ignoring him on set as well as changing up the script for “Star Trek V” so that Takei’s character would not receive command of a spaceship.

Takei has also slammed the “T.J. Hooker” star as “very self-centered.”

Shatner has taken shots at Takei too. He once claimed there’s something Takei is “festering, and it makes him unhappy that he takes it out on me.” He called Takei’s public lambasting of him “sad.”
The 90-year-old actor joined Blue Origin Vice President of New Shepard Mission and Flight Operations Audrey Powers as well as Dr. Chris Boshuizen and Glen de Vries as they blasted off on the aerospace company’s latest suborbital spaceflight on Wednesday.
