How Nick Bosa’s mom chose Joey’s Chargers-Jaguars game over 49ers-Seahawks

It isn’t easy being the supermom of two NFL stars. But Cheryl Bosa makes it work.

This week’s conundrum: Her sons — 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa — both have playoff games Saturday. Timing and distance are an issue, though, with Nick in Santa Clara, where the 49ers will host the Seattle Seahawks at 1:30 p.m. PT, and Joey on the opposite coast facing the Jaguars in Jacksonville, Fla., at 5:15 p.m.

Ultimately, Mama Bosa had to make a decision on which game to attend.

“I was praying that I’d be able to get to both,” Cheryl told Ashley Adamson and Lisa McCaffrey on the “Your Mom” podcast. “Obviously, I didn’t get lucky this weekend. Hopefully the following weekend, I will.

“Joey’s been injured this year. I was at a couple of his first games, I was at the game that he went down in, and then he’s been out for 10 or 12 weeks. I went to his first game back, which was two weeks ago. I guess it’s just a numbers game, you know? Like, I need to be there for him.”

Joey registered six tackles (two for loss), 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble in the first two games of his seventh NFL season before going down in Week 3 with a groin injury. He was out for 13 consecutive games before returning in Week 17, and he still finished the season with the sixth-most sacks and tied for the first-most quarterback hits on the Chargers.

“I was just with Nick, we went to dinner after the game on Sunday [against the Arizona Cardinals],” Cheryl said. “And I was just like, ‘Babe, I’m really sorry, but I’m going to go to Joey’s game,’ and he’s like ‘Absolutely, Mom.’ “

While Joey was out, Nick solidified his case for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He finished the season with a league-high 18.5 sacks, just one shy of Aldon Smith’s franchise single-season record of 19.5, set in 2012.

The 49ers are riding a 10-game win streak into the postseason and will look to build on it so Mama Bosa can cheer on the DPOY front-runner next week at Levi’s Stadium.

Idaho murders: Kaylee Goncalves’ father believes suspect ‘chose to go’ upstairs to potentially target victims

MOSCOW, Idaho – The father of one of the four University of Idaho students who were killed in their off-campus home on Nov. 13 believes his daughter and her best friend may have been targeted based on the perpetrator’s suspected entry and exit point.

Steven Goncalves, father of deceased 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves, on Sunday morning told “Fox & Friends” that the suspect’s alleged “entry and exit” point through a sliding glass door or window on the second floor of the home — which meets a hill on the ground level in the backyard — “are available without having to go upstairs or downstairs.”

Goncalves and her childhood best friend, 21-year-old Madison Mogen, were found dead on the third floor of the Moscow, Idaho, residence around noon on Nov. 13, while victims Xana Kernodle, 20, and her boyfriend, 20-year-old Ethan Chapin, were found on the second floor.

“I’m not a professional, so I want to specify that, but they’ve said the entry point was the slider or the window. It was the middle floor. So, to me, he doesn’t have to go upstairs,” Goncalves said. “His entry and exit are available without having to go upstairs or downstairs. Looks like he probably may have not gone downstairs. We don’t know that for sure, but he obviously went upstairs. So I’m using logic that he chose to go up there when he didn’t have to.”

His daughter’s text messages sent before the attack revealed to Goncalves that she was not in fear at the time, he added.

IDAHO MURDERS: FORMER FIRST-FLOOR TENANT OF MOSCOW HOME SAYS HE COULDN’T HEAR ACTIVITY FROM OTHER FLOORS

“So, I’m just putting the dots together,” he said. “As far as the investigators, they’re very tight-lipped, and they’re keeping everything close to their vest, and I understand that, and I’m probably not the right person to share all these things with. So, I’m just trusting … that their case is super tight, and they don’t really need to reach out to the community, and … all the evidence is right there in that home.”

The Moscow Police Department has maintained that the quadruple homicide three weeks ago was “an isolated, targeted attack,” but authorities also say it is unclear whether a specific victim was the target or their residence in general. All four victims were stabbed to death and had been stabbed multiple times, while only “some” victims had defensive wounds, according to the Latah County coroner.

IDAHO MURDERS: KAYLEE GONCALVES’ MOM SAYS POLICE RULED OUT CERTAIN PEOPLE ‘VERY FAST’

The grieving father said he “can’t” specify whether he believes his daughter or any of the other victims were targets of the attack.

Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, along with the women’s two other roommates in Kaylee Goncalves’ final Instagram post, shared the day before the slayings.

“I asked for permission to do just that, and they said no,” Goncalves said of police. “I probably over-disclosed information that they wish I wouldn’t have said, but the story’s going cold. There’s less people coming to Moscow. I’m not going to go sleep in my bed knowing that I could get up and I could go to town and I could do something, and I’m not going to go away. I hate to be a pain, but as a father, I just can’t even sleep thinking that I could be doing something.”

Goncalves also wants police to share the alibis of certain individuals.

“Just share the alibi,” he said. “If you’re not sharing an alibi, to me, it tells me that you’re not 100% confident that it’s going to stick.”

IF IDAHO VICTIMS ‘WERE GOING TO GO, THEY WERE GOING TO GO TOGETHER,’ FRIEND SAYS

The father went on to describe Kaylee as a “hard worker” and a “Punky Brewster-type girl.”

“We missed out on a really smart person,” he said.

Goncalves and Mogen considered each other sisters.

University of Idaho students who left campus for Thanksgiving break were given the option to stay home and learn remotely instead of returning to campus with a suspect still on the run.

Police also have yet to announce any kind of motive in the quadruple murder.

Jan. 6 hearing live updates: Trump ‘chose not to act’ as mob attacked, committee says

The House select committee shared never-before-seen raw footage of outtakes from former President Donald Trump’s recorded message on Jan. 7, in which he “still could not say that the election was over,” Rep. Elaine Luria, D-Va., said.

“This election is now over. Congress has certified the results,” Trump starts to say, then adding, “I don’t want to say the election is over.”

“I just want to say Congress has certified the results, without saying the election is over, OK?” he continues.

Trump had refused to record the address for hours, Luria said, but ultimately relented “because of concerns that he might be removed from power by threats of the 25th Amendment.”

The 25th Amendment lays out the procedures for replacing the president in the event of death, removal, resignation or incapacitation.

Apple reportedly chose a standalone AR / VR headset over a more powerful tethered design

Apple’s rumored mixed reality headset seems like the worst-kept secret in tech, and a new report about the device from The Information (its second this week) is chock full of details about the unannounced product’s turbulent development.

One of the most notable parts of the story is about Apple’s decision to go with a standalone headset. At one point, Apple hadn’t yet decided whether to move forward with a more powerful VR headset that would be paired with a base station or a standalone one. While Apple’s AR / VR leader Mike Rockwell apparently preferred the version with the base station — which included a processor that eventually shipped as the M1 Ultra, according to The Information — Apple executives chose to go with the standalone product. Bloomberg reported similar details in 2020.

That choice has apparently had long-term effects on the development of the headset. “By the time the decision was made, the device’s multiple chips had already been in development for several years, making it impossible to go back to the drawing board to create, say, a single chip to handle all the headset’s tasks,” The Information reported. “Other challenges, such as incorporating 14 cameras on the headset, have caused headaches for hardware and algorithm engineers.”

The report also includes details about Jony Ive’s continued consultation on the project’s design even after his official departure from Apple. Ive “prefers” a wearable battery, perhaps like what Magic Leap offers. But other prototypes have had the battery in the headset’s headband, and it’s unclear which will be used in the final design, The Information says.

Apple reportedly showed the headset to its board of directors last week, so it could be nearing a public reveal. That said, it may not be announced until later this year, and it might not hit store shelves until 2023, so we could be waiting a while to try it for ourselves. For further down the line, Apple is developing a pair of AR eyeglasses that look like Ray-Ban wayfarer glasses, but The Information says those are “still many years away from release.” (I’m curious how they’ll differ in style from Meta and Ray-Bans’ actual wayfarer-like glasses.)
