Janet Jackson Looks Chic in Black as She Poses with Christian Louboutin at Rose Ball in Monaco

Janet Jackson was full of grace during her visit to Monaco.

The Grammy Award winner, 56, put on a dazzling display in a head-to-toe black ensemble by Christian Siriano as she and shoe designer Christian Louboutin attended Friday’s annual Bal de la Rose (Rose Ball) at the Salle des Etoiles.

She donned a slim black ankle-length dress with long sleeves, padded shoulders and a short train, which she carried on the red carpet. Jackson finished the look with black studded strappy stilettos, a black snakeskin clutch and some chunky statement jewelry.

Jackson added a pop of color to her look with a hot pink manicure and pedicure.

The Rhythm Nation artist shared the look in a photo on Instagram, where she earned praise from Siriano, 36, in the form of pink fluttering heart emojis. “Love the 👀! 🔥🖤” her sister La Toya Jackson wrote in the comments.

Louboutin, 59, wore a floral blush suit with a matching printed fez cap. He finished the look with a pink shirt, a brown printed bowtie and a pair of purple leather dress shoes.

The French designer curated this year’s Bal de la Rose, which was themed “Return of The Twenties.” It was the first time in years the ball wasn’t designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld, who in 2019 died at age 85 from complications of pancreatic cancer. Friday’s ball precedes L’Exhibition(niste), a retrospective on Louboutin’s work running through Aug. 28 at the nearby Grimaldi Forum.

Established by Princess Grace in 1954, the Rose Ball has been organized by her daughter Caroline, Princess of Hanover, since the late screen legend’s death in 1982. Proceeds benefit the Princess Grace Foundation.

Friday’s Rose Ball was the first since the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was rescheduled this year from its traditional March date.

Insiders say Met Gala fashions no longer chic: ‘very Halloween’

In 1883, Alice Claypoole Vanderbilt attended her sister-in-law’s famed masquerade party in a dazzling gold-and-silver gown, custom from Paris, dubbed Electric Light, complete with hidden batteries that illuminated a torch she held above her head.

Today’s A-listers hope to generate their own electricity at Monday night’s Met Gala, the dress code for which is “gilded glamour.” Yet instead of cutting-edge frocks like Mrs. Vanderbilt’s, some insiders fear that attendees will embrace the tackiest aspects of late-19th-century Manhattan society. Will dresses resemble the costumes on the popular HBO series “The Gilded Age,” in which Carrie Coon’s social-climbing Bertha swans around her Fifth Avenue mansion in couture?

While flamboyance has helped make Anna Wintour’s annual Met Gala the most anticipated red carpet of the year — “It’s a bigger deal than the Oscars,” said Christina Pacelli, who has dressed celebs such as Laverne Cox for the big evening — some observers say the get-ups have gotten too garish.

“It’s turned into a costume party,” designer and frequent gala chair Tom Ford told journalist Amy Odell in her book “Anna: The Biography,” out Tuesday.

“[It] used to just be very chic people wearing very beautiful clothes going to an exhibition about the 18th century,” Ford continued. “You didn’t have to look like the 18th century, you didn’t have to dress like a hamburger, you didn’t have to arrive in a van where you were standing up because you couldn’t sit down because you wore a chandelier.”

Ford may have a slightly idealized view of the galas of yore — at least one person showed up to 1981’s ball, themed for the exhibit “The Eighteenth-Century Woman,” dressed in knee breeches! But the clothes and themes have gotten kookier in the days since Princess Diana attended in a sleek Dior slip dress.

Recent years have seen Rihanna don a pope hat for 2018’s “Heavenly Bodies,” Jared Leto carrying a replica of his own head for 2019’s “Camp” and Lil Nas X model a sexy C-3PO costume for last year’s “American Independence,” which he shed to reveal a sparkly Versace catsuit underneath.

And lest you think Ford was exaggerating, Katy Perry did wear a chandelier and a hamburger costume — on the same night.

‘It’s very Halloween’

“Some of the things that Kim Kardashian has worn — I mean, it’s very Halloween,” said John Tiffany, a fashion historian and brand consultant who once assisted Eleanor Lambert, the legendary fashion publicist who dreamed up the Met’s first Costume Institute benefit, then called the Party of the Year, in 1948. Back then, Tiffany said, the party was a fund-raiser dinner, but in the 1970s, when freshly fired Vogue editor Diana Vreeland started manning the Costume Institute, the gala became linked with whatever fashion exhibit was opening at the museum, “which were always completely over the top.”

“It’s always been a creative party,” said Dennita Sewell, a fashion professor at Arizona State University who worked at the Costume Institute in the 1990s — when lower-rung staffers could actually attend the party. “People always dressed up, but it wasn’t so extreme … No one would have done something that wasn’t graceful and elegant.”

“The themes were noted,” she added, “but it wasn’t like the whole party was competing with the exhibition.”

Sometimes it can feel that way.

“It’s gone from an industry event celebrating the history of fashion to one celebrating celebrity,” stylist Tracy Taylor told The Post. “Designers were really the focus of the galas in the 20th century and early 21st century: Alexander McQueen, Halston — Halston would have never designed something that you couldn’t sit in! But lately, the focus is on themes, and I do feel like it’s encouraging more extreme interpretations and outfits.”

The invite list has changed to include more celebrities — particularly, in recent years, musicians, who are used to wearing costumes onstage and often treat fashion as performance.

“When you’re a musician like Rihanna, it’s not such a huge stretch to look outlandish,” Taylor said. “They’re expected to be a bit more flamboyant or really be creative and show who they are through how they dress.” And that translates to the red carpet.

Gilded controversy

“Gilded glamour” is a dress code that allows for lots of different interpretations — from a corset gown with a huge bustle and swaths of sumptuous taffeta to a slinky gold lamé slip to a sequin frock — and plenty of ways to up the ante.

The Gilded Age was one of “enormous growth and wealth due to industrialization and real estate, and the dresses reflected that opulence,” Taylor said. “It was about these new celebrities and peacocking, and that’s what the Met Gala is about.”

Yet it could read as tone deaf. The era, which spanned from 1870 to 1900, was also characterized by extreme poverty — with exploited immigrant families living in crowded, unsanitary tenements on the Lower East Side while Fifth Avenue’s titans dined on oysters and lobster in their Parisian couture (modeled, perversely, on 17th-century French court fashion).

“The world is in a state of flux,” said Bronwyn Cosgrave, host of the podcast “Fashion Conversations,” citing the war in Ukraine and the uptick in violence in the US. “In New York City, where the Met Gala takes place, there’s huge problems with homelessness, problems with mental health … I’m not sure gilded glamour is what we need.”

Others argue that it’s exactly what’s needed right now.

“When times are tough, people turn to fantasy,” Phyllis Magidson, a fashion curator who worked with the Museum of the City of New York, told The Post.

“Everybody’s battered, and what better way to escape than through period fashion?”

Some attendees, too, are embracing the gala’s gloriously gaudy theme.

“I think that dressing on theme is part of the fun of it, personally,” Katy Perry’s stylist, Tatiana Waterford, told The Post. “Katy always dresses on theme. But she’s always had a distinctive sense of style that lends itself to an over-the-top Met Gala look.”

That said, even Perry plans to tone things down this year. “She won’t look kooky, but it’s Katy, so there will be no shortage of drama,” Waterford said. “I wish I could reveal more but you’ll just have to wait and see!”

Zara Tindall looks chic in a polka dot navy dress at Easter Church service

Zara Tindall looked stylish in the spring weather as she attended today’s Easter Mattins Service in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, accompanied by husband Mike, and their eldest daughter Mia, eight.

Princess Anne’s daughter, 40, appeared to have taken inspiration from the Duchess of Cambridge, as she arrived for the seasonal service wearing a navy polka dot dress from LK Bennett, similar to the signature Alessandra Rich dress Kate previously wore to visit Bletchley Park in 2019.

Zara teamed the £350 statement dress with nude heels and a striking pillbox-style headpiece, while schoolgirl Mia looked pretty in a blue ditsy floral dress. The couple left their youngest children, Lucas, one, and Lena, three, at home.

The Cambridges led the senior royals for the Easter service, while the Queen was unable to attend because of ongoing mobility issues.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, who represented the Queen at Thursday’s Royal Maundy service at the same chapel, also chose not to attend the Easter Sunday service, which is a staple in the royal calendar.

Zara styled her blonde hair swept back from her face to reveal elegant drop earrings and kept her makeup subtle with the addition of a neutral lipstick.

She coordinated her navy dress with a black envelope clutch bag and a floral headpiece and nude block heels.

The mother-of-three appeared to have also matched with Mike, who looked dapper in a blue suit, while their daughter Mia donned a floral dress, similar to the one worn by Princess Charlotte, and dark blue headband.

Miranda Holder, who is the Founder of the Feel Good Fashion Coach, commented: ‘Zara Tindall put a twist on classic monochrome by swapping black for navy with fresh white polka dots, accessorised with a striking navy and white fascinator and keeping the look modern and fresh with nude heels.

‘And her daughter looks pretty as a picture in a shirred floral pale blue dress completing the blue Royal Easter Sunday entourage.’

The Tindall family looked polished, meanwhile the Cambridges and Sophie Wessex also arrived wearing blue.

‘I have found myself heartbroken at the sufferings of the innocent victims of conflict, or persecution’: Prince Charles’ emotive Easter speech

This year I had the enormous privilege of representing Her Majesty The Queen at the Service for Maundy Thursday, when Christians remember that humility and sacrifice are at the heart of our faith.

At that service, which he attended with my mother so many times over the years, my father, The Duke of Edinburgh, always used to read the Gospel which tells how on the night of the Last Supper, Jesus knelt before his disciples and washed their travel-weary feet.

Our Lord told them that he was doing this to give them an example of how to look after and to serve one another. It is a message they never forgot, and it is as challenging today as it was then.

Today, millions of people find themselves displaced, wearied by their journey from troubled places, wounded by the past, fearful of the future – and in need of a welcome, of rest, and of kindness.

Over the past years, I have found myself heartbroken at the sufferings of the innocent victims of conflict, or persecution, some of whom I have met and who have told me stories of unutterable tragedy as they have been forced to flee their country and seek shelter far from home.

But amidst all this sadness and inhumanity, it has been profoundly moving to see how so many people are ready to open their homes to those in need, and how they have offered their time and their resources to help those facing such soul-destroying sorrow and hardship.

This Easter, as always, we are reminded of Our Lord’s timeless example of goodness in the face of suffering, of courage in the face of fear, of faith in the face of despair. His light triumphed in that dark time. I pray with all my heart that his inspiring example might help us all dispel the darkness of the world…

The Queen ‘s eldest granddaughter opted for white slacks and a white riding shirt under a blue blazer as she joined fellow equestrians at the prestigious three-day horse trails.

The former Olympian, with decades of experience on the British circuit looked delighted as showed off her skills.

Zara, who won a Silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics rode Classic Eurostar, and eight-year-old Gelding.

The royal gave birth to youngest son Lucas in March last year. In 2020, Zara described how riding for her country is what ‘dreams are made of’ and how she is lucky to have her horses with her in lockdown.

The silver Olympic medal-winning equestrian lives on her mother Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.

She told a royal special edition of Horse & Hound magazine that she enjoys the pressure of competing.

She said: ‘I love riding for my country; those have been the best experiences of my career, to get your horse to that level is what it’s all about, and what we all strive for,’ she said at the time.

‘I love the big occasion because I love the pressure – sitting on a horse that you know is good enough, you are fully prepared, riding for your country, it’s what your dreams are made of.

Ozark’s Julia Garner ditches her trademark corkscrew curls for a chic beehive

She is best known for her starring role as straight-talking criminal Ruth Langmore in Netflix hit Ozark.

But Julia Garner looked worlds away from her alter-ego’s scruffy go-to wardrobe of plaid shirts and ripped jeans as she made an exceptionally stylish appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday.

Ditching her trademark corkscrew curls in favour of a chic beehive style, the talented actress, 28, revealed the surprising inspiration behind her Ozark character; the paintings of Italian Renaissance artist Caravaggio – and boxer Mike Tyson.

Chic: Julia Garner looked worlds away from her Ozark alter-ego Ruth Langmore as she made an exceptionally stylish appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday

The star turned heads in a 60s-inspired crystal-embellished tulle mini-dress by Prada, teamed with black suede slingback pumps.

Julia wore her platinum locks coiffed into an elegant beehive and completed her retro chat show look with a slick of winged eyeliner.

Chatting to host Jimmy Fallon, 47, the actress made the surprising revelation that she is inspired by the paintings of Italian Renaissance artist Caravaggio and boxer Mike Tyson when it comes to her character Ruth’s angry scenes.

Jimmy gushed over her performance, enthusing: ‘Dude you just crush it every episode, you are so good.’

Elegant: Ditching her trademark corkscrew curls in favour of a chic beehive style, the talented actress, 28, revealed the surprising inspiration behind her Ozark character

In character: Julia is is best known for her starring role as straight-talking criminal Ruth Langmore in Netflix hit Ozark

He then played a video of Ruth screeching ‘If you wanna stop me, you’re going to have to f**king kill me’ to her former employers turned enemies Marty and Wendy Byrde, played by Jason Bateman and Laura Linney.

Speaking of her inspiration behind the scene in the current fourth and final season of the Netflix crime drama, Julia said: ‘The scream could be any scream in Ozark, but this is not a typical scream. I’m mad. I’m very, very angry.

‘I’m very visual and I get inspired by different things and I really just wanted the spirit of a Caravaggio painting and the darkness. I feel like Caravaggio paints intensity and chaos so well.

‘My dad is an art teacher. I like the chaos. She’s [Ruth] obviously getting defensive and very mad. Not necessarily the faces, but more just the chaos. I want my mind to feel claustrophobic like that.’

Sixties siren: The star turned heads in a 60s-inspired crystal-embellished tulle mini-dress by Prada, teamed with black suede slingback pumps

Julia went on to add that a particular photo of Mike Tyson during his iconic 1996 fight against Evander Holyfield was another source of inspiration.

She added: ‘I got inspired by it [Caravaggio] but there was still something missing. Then I realised Mike Tyson is another inspiration for me. This face could be a Caravaggio painting.’

Julia went on to discuss her latest role as infamous fake heiress and convicted scammer Anna Sorokin in new Netflix drama, Inventing Anna.

Posing as a German heiress with a $67 million trust fund back in Europe named Anna Delvey, Sorokin scammed banks and New York’s downtown socialite scene out of thousands of dollars while living in Manhattan between 2013 to 2017.

Inspiration: The actress went on to add that a particular photo of Mike Tyson during his iconic 1996 fight against Evander Holyfield was another source of inspiration

In April of 2019, Sorokin was convicted of four counts of theft services, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of attempted grand larceny and was sentenced to a minimum of four years in prison.

Detailing the nuances of the accent she adopted, Julia explained: ‘It’s about this girl who scams New York’s high society and pretends to be something she’s not. She’s a very complex character and it’s better to watch her.

‘She says she’s Russian, but she’s not really Russian, so first I had to do like a European accent. Like a German accent, but very subtle. Then add a bit of bad Russian for certain words.

‘Then it gets Americanised and I like add a question at the end of every sentence. Europeans don’t do that.

New role: Julia went on to discuss her latest role as infamous fake heiress and convicted scammer Anna Sorokin in new Netflix drama, Inventing Anna

‘I really wanted to make sure it was one of those things where if she goes back to Europe all of her friends would be like, “You sound so American”. And then here they’d be like “Oh my god, you sound so European!”. ‘

Julia also spoke about meeting the real life Sorokin behind bars in jail.

She explained: ‘I went to go and visit her in jail and she was like “So, uh, how’s the shoot going?” I said it’s going well and she asked, “How are you playing me? What are you doing with my character?”

‘I didn’t know what to do and just started mirroring what she said and she was like [giggling], “That’s so funny!”‘

Ozark season four is streaming on Netflix now. Inventing Anna will hit Netflix on February 11.

Angelina Jolie is effortlessly chic for grocery run with daughter Vivienne, 13, in LA

Angelina Jolie was spotted stocking up on groceries at a Bristol Farms in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

The 46-year-old Academy Award-winner was joined on the errand run by her youngest daughter Vivienne, 13, who helped her carry bags out of the store.

Jolie looked ultra chic in an oversized black coat styled with a pair of black skinny jeans.

Stocking up: Angelina Jolie was spotted stocking up on groceries at a Bristol Farms in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

The Maleficent actress slipped her feet into a pair of black leather booties and toted her belongings in a purse resting in the crook of her arm.

Her brunette hair was worn down and she accessorized with a pair of tinted glasses.

Meanwhile, Vivienne looked comfortable in a white crewneck sweatshirt, shorts, and a pair of slip on Nike sneakers.

The mother-daughter duo carried several reusable bags filled with grocery items, while also carrying a pack of canned sparkling water.

Angelina shares Vivienne, as well as daughters Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 15, and sons Maddox, 20, Pax, 18, and Knox, 13, with ex husband Brad Pitt.

But regardless of having six kids to look after at her home in Los Angeles, Angelina has managed to find time to also work with teens around the world to better their education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Eternals star has been doing so in partnership with the Maddox Jolie Program which is overseen by her eldest son Maddox.

On Sunday the red carpet fixture shared a post to Instagram that detailed her recent work adding that she ‘loves’ to see young women excel.

The rumoured girlfriend of singer The Weeknd said she is very hands on with one student in particular.

‘I have been working with Gitanjali Rao, fifteen-year old problem-solver and innovator,’ began the ex of Brad Pitt.

‘She is a leading light in promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics for children and young people across the world. Most of all for girls, who are under-represented in the sciences, and particularly in ICT, a growth area for employment in the future,’ added the Maleficent star.

ICT stands for Information and Communications Technology.

Jolie then wrote that in late December 2021, students from Samlot High School, a school MJP Foundation supports, connected with Gitanjali on the other side of the world, to inspire and be inspired.

The MJP Foundation is dedicated to alleviating extreme rural poverty, protecting the environment and conserving wildlife in rural northwestern Cambodia.
