Atlus introduced new characters and stat / skill building features for Shin Megami Tensei V during the second volume of its Shin Megami Tensei V News program.

Introduction

Hello, it’s time for Shin Megami Tensei V News. This show Atlus will deliver information regarding Shin Megami Tensei V, a Nintendo Switch exclusive RPG launching November 11th, 2021. I am your host, Chiaki Matsuzawa.

Here are today’s Shin Megami Tensei V News topics:

  • New Characters (Vol. 2)
  • New Stat / Skill Building Features to Survive Da’at

Let’s begin the show.

New Characters (Vol. 2)

Have you had a chance to catch the latest, third trailer released last week? If you haven’t, be sure to check it out via our official website. Let’s start off by watching the following clip.

  • Shohei Yakumo (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita) – “I thought you’d be cleaning up the stragglers… but he looks like no angel I’ve seen.” A mysterious man who stands in the way of the protagonist as he advances through Da’at. “Take solace in our meeting, boy. I’ll make your death a painless one.” He has labeled himself as “he who hunts all demons.” “Maybe then you’ll see the truth.” His motives and true colors remain unknown, but he seems to work alongside Nuwa, a demon. “See gods and demons alike fighting over humanity… and Tokyo caught in the crossfire.”
  • Nuwa, Lady (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu) – A goddess that appears in Chinese mythology. “Are you part of the reinforcements sent by Bethel? The man beside me is Yakumo…” She’s worked alongside Yakumo since he was young to fulfill a certain goal. “I suppose one could say he is my other half. The angels that infested this area are now dead.” She suddenly appears before the protagonist, and attacks. “And I daresay they could use some company.”
  • Abdiel, Archangel & Bethel’s Deputy Angel Commander (voiced by Romi Park) – An angel who oversees Bethel’s headquarters. “Am I to understand you went against the Condemnation?” Stern and uncompromising, she eradicates anyone who threatens the order of Bethel through sheer force. “Answer, boy. Bethel will have no mercy for one who violates the will of God.” She’s fervently devoted to God and is committed to defending his order at all costs. “It is a duty I am sure you will continue to perform.”

The protagonist will come across a number of mysterious humans and demons on this journey… But what exactly are their ultimate motives? All across Da’at, the conflict between gods and demons intensifies even further. What future will await Tokyo…?

You just watched the introduction of the new characters. It’s exciting to imagine how the story will develop further.

Next, we will introduce new stat/skill building features for the protagonist.

Let’s take a look.

New Stat / Skill-Building Features to Survive Da’at

User Questions

Here at Shin Megami Tensei V News, we are always accepting messages from our viewers. We’ve been highlighting a few of them at the bottom of the screen. For this next segment, I’d like to read one out loud.

We received the following message from @Nine.

“Is it possible to fast forward the special effects for skills during battle?”

Yes, in the game you will be able to shorten the attack animations during battle. You can configure this feature in your options menu, and choose to keep it “always on”, “on only when holding the A button”, or “always off.” You can also fast-forward enemy skills as well, aside from a few exceptions. We also have an “auto-play” feature which will automatically repeat a standard attack. Be careful using this feature when going up against Girimekhala.

Please continue to send along your messages and questions. Tweet your questions with the hashtag #AskSMT5! We look forward to hearing from you!

Shin Megami Tensei V News Vol. 1 introduces new characters, Magatsuhi Skills

Atlus introduced new characters and the “Magatsuhi Skills” battle feature for Shin Megami Tensei V during the first volume of its Shin Megami Tensei V News program.

Introduction

Hello, it’s time for Shin Megami Tensei V News. This show from Atlus will deliver information regarding Shin Megami Tensei V, coming out exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on November 11th, 2021. I am your host, Chiaki Matsuzawa.

Here are today’s Shin Megami Tensei V News topics.

  1. New Characters
  2. Battle Features

Let’s begin the show.

New Characters

Have you had a chance to catch the latest trailer released last week? For this first segment, we’d like to introduce the new characters who made an appearance.

Let’s take a look.

  • Tao Isonokami (voiced by Saori Hayami) – “So how about we all walk home together?” The protagonist’s classmate. A third-year student who is a member of the lacrosse club. “I’ve had spiritual powers ever since I was little. Everyone at Bethel calls me the Saint.” She’s caring and kind-hearted. “I’ve just been having these weird dreams lately.” She’s had a sixth sense since she was little. She assists Bethel’s Japanese branch, and supports the protagonist and his friends when they join Bethel. “I keep hearing this distant voice. Like someone faraway’s calling out to me.”
  • Yuzuru Atsuta (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) – A friend of the protagonist who is responsible, capable, and assertive. “Hey, you heading back alone? You should walk with us.” He is a principled and upright young man, and fights alongside Bethel in a provisional unit to protect his sister Miyazu. “We’re the only family we’ve got. I don’t think it’s that strange to look out for my little sister.” By wandering into Da’at alongside the protagonist, he obtains further abilities, and newly swears to fight to protect the peace of Tokyo.- What could have possibly happened to Tokyo while we were in that tunnel?
  • Ichiro Dazai (voiced by Kishou Taniyama) – The protagonist’s classmate. A cheerful guy, though he can be gauche at times. “All right, so word on the street is a bunch of monsters have been seen hanging around this tunnel!” While livestreaming, he, too, becomes involved in the Takanawa Tunnel collapsing incident and wanders into Da’at. “Yow! Sheesh, ceiling’s pretty low… Pretty dark in here, too. Looks dangerous.” He embraces Bethel’s call to action and swears to fight the demons, hoping to prove his worth for a noble cause. – Look, I’m borderline useless at school… And I’m always making trouble for other people. “But even a guy like me wants to be someone people can turn to!” “Oh, um… hi there.”
  • Miyazu Atsuta (voiced by Ryou Hirohashi) – Yuzuru’s little sister and only living family member. “Uh, would you mind checking up on my brother?” Shy and reserved, she’s often seen visiting the nurse’s office. When Jouin High School is assaulted by demons, she, too, is caught up in the chaos. “I know he’s always looking after me, but… I get worried about him, too.”
  • Hayao Koshimizu (voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda) – Prime Minister of Japan, Chief of the Bethel Japan Branch. Japan’s prime minister and Bethel’s main representative of the Japanese branch. “My name is Koshimizu. I’m in charge here in addition to being Japan’s Prime Minster.” Calm, collected, and strategic… “Apologies for dragging you into this.” …he offers the demon summoning program to Ichiro and friends, asking them to assist Bethel. “Thank you. I admire your courage.”

The protagonist obtains newfound, supernatural powers after wandering into Da’at. Upon safely returning to Tokyo, he joins Bethel, an elite organization devoted to fighting demons, and swears to protect Tokyo, along with his classmates.

However, a band of demons suddenly attacks their academy. Will the protagonist and his friends be able to protect other students? And what is the motive behind the legendary demon that awakens in Da’at, the “other” Tokyo?

You just watched the introduction of the new characters. It’s exciting to imagine what story will ultimately unfold from this cast.

Battle Features: Magatsuhi Skills

Next, we will introduce new battle features. Let’s take a look.

During Press Turn Battles, your actions will gradually fill up the Magatsuhi Gauge. Once full, you can activate special moves called Magatsuhi Skills. These can unleash powerful attacks dealing massive damage, as well as various support and healing skills. However, enemies can utilize these too, so beware. By strategically using these skills to your advantage, you’re sure to enjoy an even wider range of tactical gameplay.

You just watched the latest battle feature: Magatsuhi Skills. It seems we may be able to enjoy a Press Turn Battle system that has evolved even further.

‘Batman Is Ours Alone to Exploit.’ DC Comics Warns Against Using Its Characters In NFTs

Publisher DC Comics, a subsidiary of Warner Bros, itself a unit of Time Warner, is unhappy with artists using its intellectual property (IP) in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and said it has its own plans for characters.

In a letter written by DC Comics, Jay Kogan, senior vice president, legal affairs sent out to freelancers employed by the firm Thursday, it was stressed it is against company policy to sell digital images featuring DC’s IP with or without NFTs.

Kogan said DC Comics has its own plans to enter the NFT space and is currently exploring opportunities to enter the market.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are becoming the newest fan collectibles and have generated significant press and buzz in the digital space. DC is exploring opportunities to enter the market for the distribution and sale of original DC digital art with NFTs including both new art created specifically for the NFT market, as well as original digital art rendered for DC’s comic book publications.

As DC examines the complexities of the NFT marketplace, and we work on a reasonable and fair solution for all parties involved, including fans and collectors, please note that the offering for sale of any digital images featuring DC’s intellectual property with or without NFTs, whether rendered for DC’s publications or rendered outside the scope of one’s contractual engagement with DC, is not permitted. If you are approached by anyone interested in including any of your DC art in an NFT program, please let Lawrence Ganem, DC’s VP, Talent Services know.

We expect the participation of DC’s freelance talent will be an integral component of the NFT program that DC puts into place. We’ll share further information as it becomes available, and we appreciate your cooperation and partnership.

Letter sent by DC Comics, Jay Kogan, senior vice president, legal affairs to company freelancers.

Former DC Comics artist Jose Delgo, who is known for his sketches of Wonder Woman, has made $1.95 million by selling NFTs featuring the super hero and other licensed characters, reports Gizmodo.

Recently NFTs have become a craze with millions of dollars being spent on rare or desirable digital artworks. On Thursday, a piece of digital artwork or NFT by crypto artist Beeple was sold for a record $69.3 million by the auction house Christie’s.

The NFT industry had a market capitalization of $338 million at the end of 2020, according to nonfungible.com.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans stunned by character’s death in midseason premiere

[WARNING: Spoilers ahead about the March 11 midseason premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy”]

“Grey’s Anatomy” fans were left in tears Thursday night after the medical drama’s midseason premiere killed off a beloved character.

Dr. Andrew DeLuca, played by actor Giacomo Gianniotti since 2015, was stabbed while trying to track down and expose a sex trafficker.

In the episode, which was also a crossover with “Station 19,” it appeared DeLuca was going to pull through at first.

But then while on the operating table he had a vision of love interest Meredith Grey, who’s been in a coma battling COVID-19.

‘GREY’S ANATOMY’ CAST THANKS MEDICAL WORKERS FIGHTING CORONAVIRUS: ‘WE ARE SO GRATEFUL’

DeLuca told her in a beach dream sequence, “No matter what happens, I want you to know that I never felt seen the way you saw me. I never felt inspired the way you inspired me. You made me want to be not just my best self, but better. And yeah, I felt small around you sometimes. I felt insecure. I wanted something from you that I needed to give to myself. But here, now, on this beach with you, I get it. I don’t just get it, I feel it. I get who I am. I know my own soul, my strength.”

“I’ll miss you. If I go back and you don’t, I’ll miss you,” Grey told DeLuca.

“You’ll be okay, Meredith,” he said. “I have to go.” Then, he ran other to his mother who was waiting for him.

While in her coma, Grey has also seen and talked to her late husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), and T.R. Knight’s character, Dr. George O’Malley, who died in a 2009 episode.

‘GREY’S ANATOMY’ FANS STUNNED BY PATRICK DEMPSEY’S RETURN IN SEASON 17 PREMIERE

Meanwhile, fans took to social media to react to DeLuca’s sudden departure.

“NOOOOOOOOO THIS IS WRONG DELUCA CAN’T BE DEAD,” one person wrote.

“Yeah you know what I’m never going to be okay,” said another.

“Andrew Deluca went from being a character I pretty much ignored to one of my top 2 favs and now he’s gone I’m absolutely heart broken,” reasoned someone else.

“HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME AGAIN SHONDA,” yelled a fan.

Gianniotti reacted to his character’s death on social media. “So much I could say… but all that comes to mind is thank you. Thank you to all the fans who loved Deluca as much as I did. Telling his story was and will be one of the great honors of my life. Thank you. @GreysABC,” he tweeted.

Pompeo told fans online she was “sorry for the heartache.” She added, “making the show and characters leaving is equally heartbreaking for us.”

Get the details below.

■ Characters

Van Arkride

  • Age: 24
  • Weapon: Stun Caliber
  • Affiliation: Spriggan
  • Height: 180cm

“That’s what the job is all about. Never underestimate a Spriggan.”

A young “Spriggan” with blue-streaked black hair and deep blue eyes who works mainly in the old town of the capital city Edith.

While he comes off as dry and pragmatic, he tries not to be insincere and is not bad at looking out for others.

He has contact with people in various industries due to his work, and seems to have a wide range of personal connections, but also has a side that
does not allow people to get too personal with him.

Although he began working as a Spriggan almost by sheer coincidence, he seems comfortable with its way of life, and even though he complains when he has to deal with bad jobs, he still makes sure to handle it.

Agnes Claudel

  • Age: 16
  • Weapon: Orbal Staff
  • Affiliation: Aramis High School (First-Year Student)
  • Height: 158cm

“I understand Mr. Van’s style… but there are some compromises even students can’t make!”

A first-year student at “Aramis High School,” a prestigious academy in the capital city.

A girl with a neat and gentle atmosphere, and beautiful long blond hair, but great willpower behind her cool eyes.

She takes an orbal staff self-defense course as an elective at her school, and is also a member of the student council. While working alongside her close friends, she strives everyday in the General Affairs department.

Upon learning that someone stole the “Orbment” left to her by her great-grandfather, who passed away due to certain circumstances, Agnes avoided consulting the police and Bracer Guild for some reason, and instead put in a request at “Arkride Solution Office,” which accepts any job…

Feri Al-Fayed

  • Weapon: Assault Sword
  • Affiliation: Kurgha Soldiers
  • Height: 150cm

“I will protect you… with the blessing of the flame and goddess Arusha!”

A girl with brown skin, short-styled hair, and a petite physique who is also a young member of the high-ranking jaeger corps “Kurgha Soldiers.”

Having experienced serious combat training since childhood, she shows her fierce jaeger side in battle, but being a young girl unfamiliar with a large city, she also shows reactions expected from a girl her age in day-to-day life.

Upon receiving word that a jaeger corps she had previously networked with has suddenly gone missing, Feri initiates her own search. Meanwhile, she attempts to contact the Republic’s “Spriggans” that she heard rumors about.

Aaron Wei

  • Age: 19
  • Weapon: Twin Fencer
  • Affiliation: None
  • Height: 175cm

“Don’t get in the way, old man… If you can’t understand the East men’s way.”

A playboy who had made a name for himself as a philanderer in the massive Easterner Quarter of the Republic, and the leader of the hot-blooded youth.

While being a master of sword and fist of the “Moon Flower Style,” one of three major martial art styles, he never stops attracting the attention of others with other feats such as earning heaps of money at a casino and performing sword dances in Eastern theatre as a female role.

Because of his extravagant behavior, he is nicknamed the “Prodigy” and “Young Emperor of Luo Zhou.”

There are movements to appoint him as an executive in “Heiyue,” the syndicate that dominates the Easterner Quarter, but he himself does not seem to have much interest in the organization.

More Characters Coming Soon

At least four more characters are planned to be announced, who are ages 20, 15, 22, and 69.

■ Setting / Keywords

Republic of Calvard

One of the largest nations on the continent, located in Midwest Zemuria.

Originally a monarch, it became a democratic republic following the democratic revolution that occurred one hundred years ago.

After many years of bloody war over Crossbell, which is located between Calvard and the huge Empire of Erebonia in West Zemuria, Crossbell regained its independence as an autonomous state following several years of events…

Although Calvard no longer receives tax yields from the autonomous state, the huge reparations from the Empire brought about an unprecedented economic boom, and it is rising to become the top nation on the continent in economic and military affairs.

Capital City Edith

The capital city of the Calvard Republic, and the largest metropolis on the continent.

Locations include Revolution Plaza, which looks out onto the office of the president and Republic Assembly Hall built 90 years ago; the prestigious high school that produces many elites; the districts lined with publishers and orbal movie theaters; the old town untouched by developments; the commercial district that looks out on the riverside; and on the main street, you can see “White Clove Trees” on the roadside.

As the continent’s leading orbal vehicle superpower, a variety of vehicles ride along the streets, and traffic lights were introduced here before other countries. It is also widely known to be the first city in the continent to adopt a “subway” system in place of a tram network.

Spriggan

A kind of “underground profession” born from the melting pot of diversity that is the Calvard Republic. Some days as detectives, some days as negotiators, and other days as bounty hunters, they are up for any job from any client.

Since cases accepted in the public eye are meant to be dealt with by the police and Bracer Guild, the line of work that comes to them tend to be those that the CID (Central Intelligence Department) does not want to hand to the guild, citizen consultations that cannot be made public, and even “honest” work from criminals and underground organizations.

■ New Battle System

In The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki, the command-style AT (Action Time) battle system used in the series thus far has been revamped. With a unique new system that seamlessly transitions from action battles on the field to command-style battles, you can enjoy even speedier and more strategic battles.

Basic System

(1) When you discover an enemy on the field, you can commence an action battle. (You can also avoid the battle.)

(2) During an action battle, you can shift to a command battle by deploying the combat orbment “Xipha.” (Withdrawing the Xipha will return you to (1), allowing you to shift back to an action battle.)

Use Various Actions on the Field, Including Combo Attacks and Dodges

You can perform various actions on the field including combo attacks and strong attacks at targeted enemies, and if you are in a party, you can freely switch between characters mid-battle. And since the enemy side will also launch various attacks at the player side, actions such as adjusting your position on the field and evasion are vital to avoid damage.

—Directly attack enemies on the field with combo attacks!

—Each character has their own evasive actions.

Command Battles: Strategic Combat with Crafts, Arts, and Other Turn-Based Actions

In command battles, the battle will progress by selecting commands such as Standard Attack, Craft, Arts, and Items as has been done in the series thus far.

By keeping your actions in mind, such as using Crafts with various effects and Arts with from the seven elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Time, Space, and Mirage), you can even compete against stronger enemies on equal footing.

Additionally, you can receive a temporary boost with the combat orbment “Xipha,” and if a party member is nearby, you can activate additional attacks—or additional effects such as sharing each other’s Arts.

—Select a command for each character to take action.

—Deal double the damage with Arts attacks according to attribute.

—When a Craft is used, the camerawork changes to flesh out the combat!

—Activate additional effects with the combat orbment “Xipha.”

The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki is due out in 2021 in Japan for unannounced platform(s).

Nintendo Characters Star in Awesome Godzilla vs. Kong Mash-Up

Hype is quite high for Godzilla vs. Kong following the release of the film’s first trailer, and one Nintendo fan has taken the opportunity to reimagine the upcoming battle with a pair of the company’s characters. Artist @TinaFate1 on Twitter shared an amazing match-up between a different dinosaur and ape: Bowser and Donkey Kong! The characters seem to fit in quite well for the two monsters, though it seems that their conflict will cause a bit less destruction than the battle between Kong and Godzilla. That’s because, rather than a city, the backdrop for this titanic tussle is the Battlefield stage from the Super Smash Bros. franchise!

The image from @TinaFate1 can be found embedded below.

The decision to use Donkey Kong in this role is very fitting, considering the history between the two characters. The King Kong films had a major influence on Shigeru Miyamoto’s development of the original Donkey Kong arcade game. The game found a significant amount of success, prompting MCA Universal to bring a lawsuit against Nintendo in 1984. However, Nintendo was able to successfully prove that the King Kong character actually existed in the public domain, and the company won the lawsuit, as a result.

Since those early days, Donkey Kong has strayed quite a bit from his King Kong-inspired roots, while remaining one of Nintendo’s biggest characters. Despite starting out as Mario’s arch-rival, the character eventually went on to become a full-fledged hero, starring in the massively popular Donkey Kong Country series. Of course, Bowser took on the role of Mario’s greatest enemy with the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985. Ironically enough, Bowser’s next role will see the character growing to Kaiju-like size in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. In that game, players will be able to take part in a massive battle between Bowser and a giant version of Mario. Sadly, there’s no Donkey Kong in site!

With Godzilla vs. Kong set to release in just a few short months, it’s not hard to imagine that the film will inspire a slew of additional artwork like the one made by @TinaFate1!

Are you looking forward to Godzilla vs. Kong? What do you think of the artwork by @TinaFate1? Let us know in the comments or share your thoughts directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp to talk all things gaming!
