Royal family shares photo of Queen Elizabeth II’s final resting place in Windsor chapel

Britain’s royal family shared a photo on Saturday of the ledger stone marking the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II, who died two weeks ago at the age of 96. She is interred in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, which is in the larger St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Elizabeth is alongside her husband, Prince Philip, who died in 2021 at the age of 99. The late queen’s mother, Queen Elizabeth, and father, King George VI, are there, too.

“The stone is made of hand-carved Belgian black marble with brass letter inlays, to match the previous ledger stone installed in the Chapel,” a statement from the royal family said.

The final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II is shown at the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The Royal Family

The memorial chapel was completed in 1969. Queen Elizabeth II commissioned it as a final resting place for her father.

Also located in the memorial chapel are the ashes of Queen Elizabeth II’s sister, Princess Margaret.

Construction on St. George’s Chapel began under King Edward IV in 1475, and was completed more than 50 years later, when King Henry VIII was in power.

Since then, several members of the royal family have been married there, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank later that same year.

In April 2021, Prince Philip’s funeral was held in the chapel. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Queen Elizabeth II had to sit alone during the service.

A committal service for Queen Elizabeth II was held there on Sept. 19, hours after her state funeral. She was later interred in a private service.

The chapel still has daily services, which are open to the public.

Jason Momoa apologizes after taking photos in the Sistine Chapel

Momoa, 42, is currently in Rome shooting “Fast X”, the 10th installment in the “Fast & Furious” film saga. The actor posted snaps of himself below the famous Michelangelo paintings that adorn the walls and ceilings of the chapel on May 9. In the caption, he wrote, “I LOVE YOU ITALY what a beautiful start to our day off enjoying ROMA.”

But disgruntled fans quickly pointed out in the comments that visitors are typically forbidden from taking photos or videos in the chapel, which is located in Vatican City.

On Saturday, Momoa posted another video in which he addressed the controversy — after a brief moment of working out.

“It’s my last day in Rome, and I just love you and Italy,” he said after setting down the dumbbells. “If you ever thought I disrespected your culture, that wasn’t my intention.”

He mentioned that he had previously visited the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel when he was 19 or 20. For the current trip, he provided a “donation” so that his friends and crew members from the film could join him on their days off from shooting “Fast X.”

“I found people really wanted to take photos with me,” he said. “I was very respectful and I asked for permission for what I thought would be okay. I would never want to do anything to disrespect someone’s culture. So if I did, I apologize.”

“I definitely paid to have that private moment and gave a nice donation to the church,” he added.

The apology video had reached almost 3 million views as of Sunday morning.

Jason Momoa is apologizing after taking pictures and videos during a recent trip to the Sistine Chapel.

Earlier this week, the “Aquaman” star took to Instagram to share pictures he took of himself admiring the artwork inside the Apostolic Palace. The only problem is photography is off-limits, due to the fact the flash can be harmful to the artwork.

“I LOVE YOU ITALY what a beautiful start to our day off enjoying ROMA,” Momoa captioned his post. Fans were outraged and some even believed the actor, 42, received special treatment.

“We, regular people, are not allowed to film inside the Sistine chapel,” one user commented. Another fan said, “We can’t take pics but ofc celebrities can nothing against Jason (I adore him) but it’s not fair.”

“I came here when I was 19 or 20 to experience the Sistine Chapel. I’ve always wanted to and now that I can, I gave a wonderful donation to bring my friends and crew because we only had a couple days off to experience these places.”

He continued, “And then I found people wanted to take pictures with me, which is very odd, during a trip to the Vatican with all this wonder and they want to take pictures with me, which I don’t get, but regardless, I did.

“I was very respectful and I asked for permission from what I thought, would be okay. I would never want to do anything to disrespect someone’s culture. If I did, I apologize. It was not my intention. I paid to have that private moment and gave a nice donation to the church. I love you. I’m sorry if I offended you.”
