Queen Elizabeth II’s final resting place revealed in new Windsor Castle photograph

London
CNN
 —

Buckingham Palace has released a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II’s final resting place within St. George’s Chapel following her interment in Windsor on Monday.

An engraved ledger stone featuring the name of the late monarch was installed in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, an annex to the main chapel, on Monday evening after a private service attended by her family.

The slab is hand-carved from Belgian black marble and features brass letter inlays reading the names of her parents – King George VI and Queen Elizabeth – followed by the late Queen’s name along with that of her husband, Prince Philip. A garter star separates the two royal couples, and the years of birth and death have been inscribed next to each name.

The four royals were members of the Order of the Garter, the country’s most senior order of chivalry that dates back to medieval times and the reign of King Edward III. The group’s members are personally chosen by the sovereign in recognition of an individual’s service to the nation and includes several members of the royal family, former prime ministers and other senior figures. The order’s spiritual home is St. George’s Chapel.

The Queen was laid to rest, after an elaborate state funeral at London’s Westminster Abbey attended by leaders from across the world. More than 26 million people in the United Kingdom tuned in to watch the funeral service on Monday, the first to be televised for a British monarch.

When the Queen’s husband of 73 years Prince Philip died in April 2021, his coffin was initially placed in the Royal Vault, set below St. George’s, where it remained until it could be relocated to the memorial chapel upon the Queen’s death. The ashes of the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret, who died in 2002, are also interred in the chapel.

Royal residences, including Windsor Castle, have been closed since the monarch’s death on September 8. But the general public will be able to visit the Queen’s resting place when the castle reopens on September 29.

Some areas within royal residences reopened to tourists on Thursday, including the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Queen’s Gallery in Edinburgh, Scotland, according to the Royal Collection Trust. However, Buckingham Palace’s summer opening of the State Rooms and Royal Mews will not return this year.

Additionally, special displays marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse will not reopen to the public, the trust added.

The photograph of the ledger stone comes a day after Buckingham Palace released a new portrait of King Charles III with the sovereign’s signature red boxes.

The image was taken by Britain’s PA Images and shows Charles at work last week.

“The image was taken in the Eighteenth Century Room at Buckingham Palace last week and shows His Majesty The King carrying out official government duties from The King’s Red Box,” the palace said in a statement.

The red boxes contain important papers from government ministers in the UK and from representatives across the Commonwealth and beyond.

“The documents are sent from the Private Secretary’s Office to The King, wherever he may be in residence, in a locked red despatch box,” it added.

In the background behind the new monarch is a black and white photograph of the late monarch and Duke of Edinburgh, which was a Christmas gift to the couple from King George VI in 1951.

The royal family are observing a further week of mourning after the state funeral at the King’s request. Charles III has now reportedly returned to Scotland with the Queen Consort to grieve privately.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle ‘delayed’ Windsor Castle walk

Prince William and Prince Harry’s showstopping reunion over the weekend to greet mourners with their wives outside of Windsor Castle was delayed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a royal expert has claimed.

King Charles III’s feuding sons were supposed to walk out alongside Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, an hour earlier than when they arrived outside of Windsor on Saturday.

But it’s reported that the foursome — often referred to as the Fab Four — got caught up thanks to the Sussexes.

According to NBC’s royal commentator Daisy McAndrew, Harry and Meghan had to “quickly go and get changed” to meet mourners.

McAndrew claimed Meghan had to have her “hair and make-up” done.

“Interestingly, the reason that the walkabout was so late — it was scheduled to be nearly an hour before they actually came – was because of course Harry and Meghan had to go and get changed,” McAndrew told The Today Show, noting that they were an hour late.

“They weren’t wearing the proper formal mourning attire, so they had to quickly go and get changed – I guess, do hair and makeup for Meghan. So that’s why they were late.”

The Sussexes’ reps did not immediately respond to request for comment.

The two princes and their wives strolled together outside Windsor Castle to thank the crowds that had gathered there to offer sympathy and to view the mounds of bouquets and balloons left by well-wishers.

William, who now holds his father’s title of Prince of Wales and his status as heir to the throne, invited his estranged brother to join him in the brief walkabout.

It was the first time the two couples were seen together since Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in June.

WWE Clash at the Castle results: Roman Reigns retains, thanks to Solo Sikoa

WWE closed out its big Clash at the Castle pay-per-view (PPV) from Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, today (Sat., Sept. 3, 2022) with the long awaited Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns WWE Universal championship match. All signs pointed to — with some rumors suggesting there may be a real chance of it — Reigns finally dropping the title after two years as champion.

Nope!

It was sold that Reigns was as vulnerable as ever because he came into this match alone. Paul Heyman is still selling his injuries from SummerSlam and The Usos, as they put it, weren’t medically cleared to attend the show. That meant it was truly McIntyre vs. Reigns straight up.

There were outside influences anyway. Such as:

Later, it appeared as though Austin Theory was going to cash in the Money in the Bank contract, but Tyson Fury, sitting ringside, knocked him the hell out.

Then, right as it looked like McIntyre had the match won and he was going to become champion, Solo Sikoa made his main roster debut, yanking the referee out of the ring before he could count to three. That opened the door for Reigns to hit a Spear to get the pinfall.

There was so much more to the match, one you need to see to truly appreciate, but this was an absolute banger of a main event that had a little bit of everything.

WWE Clash at the Castle gets another tag team match

It’s been clear for weeks now that we would be getting The Judgment Day vs. Edge in some form at the upcoming Clash at the Castle pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for this coming Sat., Sept. 3, 2022, in Cardiff, Wales. As it turns out, we’ll be getting a straight up tag team match.

2 v 2, though. Not 3 v 3, despite the numbers.

Indeed, Edge will team up with Rey Mysterio to take on Finn Balor & Damian Priest at the big show:

On Monday Night Raw this week, it was sold by Rey that it was a decision they both came to and he expected his son, Dominik, to have their back in the match. Dom went along with it, though he was clearly not the happiest about it.

For what it’s worth, Ripley has been putting the boots to Dom for weeks and the live crowd in Pittsburgh at Raw sure sounded ready for Dom to use a kendo stick in retaliation this evening. An intergender match doesn’t seem to be in the cards just yet, however.

The updated Clash at the Castle match card:

  • WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Shayna Baszler
  • Intercontinental Championship: GUNTHER (c) vs. Sheamus
  • Bianca Belair & Alexa Bliss & Asuka vs. Bayley & Dakota Kai & IYO SKY
  • Matt Riddle vs. Seth Rollins
  • Edge & Rey Mysterio vs. The Judgment Day

Murder at Castle Nathria – Hearthstone Card Reveal!

The next Hearthstone set is hitting the game on August 2nd (August 3 in ANZ), and will add 135 new cards, not to mention an air of mystery. With a central whodunnit, complete with a character called Murloc Holmes on the case, Murder at Castle Nathria is shaping up to be a lot of fun. In addition to ten legendary “suspects” (one for each class), it introduces a new card type: locations. Location cards are played to the board and can then be activated a set number of times, with a turn off between each activation. It’s all very Cluedo-esque. Alongside this is a new keyword: infuse. Cards with infuse are powered up when a certain number of friendly minions die while they’re in hand. You can see examples of all these new additions in the gallery below.

Murder at Castle Nathria Reveal Cards

Today we’re revealing a brand new Warrior legendary card from Murder at Castle Nathria and it’s unlike anything Hearthstone has ever seen before. Introducing Remornia, Living Blade:

Transformative!

Yes, this card starts as a minion then swaps to a weapon after attacking, which can also attack immediately… and back and forth it can potentially go! It’s an intriguing effect, capable of picking apart boards of small to medium-sized minions. Check it out:

Quite what role Remornia will play in the new meta remains to be seen. Warrior is currently quite weak (having had a host of its key cards nerfed relatively recently), but that will almost certainly change once Murder at Castle Nathria is released. Remornia will offer versatile removal for the class – albeit at the cost of some health or armour – and there’s plenty of synergy potential: anything that can buff weapons or minions, or that triggers on attacks could work well with it. We’ll start to see what’s possible as more cards are revealed.

I also love how Remornia fits into the set’s lore. Here’s a blurb from the Hearthstone team: “Every warrior is only as strong as their blade. Luckily for Sire Denathrius, his blade is Remornia. This sentient sword wants nothing more than to hack and slash away at the enemies of her wielder until all that’s left is the red of their sins. There are many reasons why it is advised to stay on the Sire’s good side, and Remornia is about a third of them.”

Sire Denathrius, incidentally, is the set’s murder victim… and also a pretty sweet-looking new card:

The more friendly minions die the bigger Sire Denathrius’ effect.

And if you log in to Hearthstone now, you’ll get Prince Renathal (above on the right) to play with straight away! You can find out more about the set and pre-order bundles at the official site, as well as checking out all the cards that have been revealed so far. See you in the tavern!
