Cardi B given second chance by judge for community service hours

NEW YORK, Jan 17 (Reuters) – Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B has until March 1 to complete 15 days of mandatory community service over a 2018 assault at a strip club, a New York City judge ruled on Tuesday.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office told Reuters the hearing was a “compliance update” and the judge had asked Cardi B to come in because she had not completed her 15 days of community service as per her plea deal.

The “WAP” artist arrived at the Queens County Criminal Court wearing a white form-fitting dress and long white coat.

“Personally and professionally, Cardi is dedicated to community service and charitable endeavors. She therefore appreciates the court giving her until March 1st to complete her community service commitment in Queens, New York,” Cardi B’s attorney said in a statement.

Police said that Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, got into an argument with female bartenders at a club. She had accused one of them of having an affair with her husband and fellow rapper, Offset.

The 30-year-old rapper pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor assault charges last year after being accused of starting a fight with two bartenders, claiming she wanted to be a better example for her children.

“Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions,” she said after her hearing in September.

Cardi B slams inflation: Rapper says grocery prices have tripled and is outraged lettuce now cost $7

Cardi B has slammed President Biden for soaring inflation that has, she says, seen grocery prices triple and a lettuce rise to $7.

While the wealthy rapper does not specifically name the President, she angrily demands ‘anybody that is responsible’ to bring prices down immediately.

The rapper, 30, revealed on Wednesday that she budgets every week to avoid going broke despite her $62 million net worth.

She urged officials to address the crisis, especially for the middle and lower class who might not be able to afford the soaring prices.

‘When I go to the f***** supermarket… I’m seeing that everything tripled up – that like lettuce was like $2 a couple of months ago and now it’s like f****** $7,’ the rapper said in a video posted to Twitter.

‘And I have a big platform, so I do want anybody that is responsible for these f****** prices to put that s*** the f*** down.’

Cardi B, 30, slammed ‘anybody that is responsible’ for the rising cost of living. The rapper posted a video onto Twitter claiming lettuce is now up to $7

Cardi acknowledged that she could either keep silent or speak up while arguing the price to buy groceries is more than eating out.

‘Of course I’m going to say something. The f****. Because if I think that s*** is crazy, I can only imagine what middle class people or people in the hood is m***** f***** thinking, so yes I’m going to say something.’

Some people argued that the rapper shouldn’t be complaining about inflation since she is a millionaire.

But the Grammy winner who is no stranger to indulging in the finer things in life, including $10,000 Hermès handbags, quickly addressed the contentious comments and claimed that managing money helps to ensure the longevity of wealth.

‘Let me tell you something, when I be complaining about food and all y’all m***** f***** be like “ain’t you rich why you complaining about lettuce? Why you complaining about this?” That just goes to show me when you become successful – when you have money – you’re going to f***** go broke soon because y’all not budgeting.

Cardi furiously opened up about her own money management techniques and how she needs to know exactly what it is being spent on.

‘I got a summary of the money that is being spent in my home every week, so when I’m starting to see that like groceries is like tripling up, it’s like “ay yo, what the f*** is going on.’ I want to see for myself what the f*** s*** is being spent on.’

The rapper owns a luxurious 22,000 square foot mansion in Atlanta, Georiga with her husband Offset. The two share two children, Wave Set, one, and Kulture, four.

Offset is also father to sons Jordan, 12, and Kody, seven, and daughter Kalea Marie, seven, from prior relationships.

Their $5.8 million dream home has 5 bedroom with 7 bathrooms and 4 half bathrooms. The property is completed with an underground shooting range and wine cellar.

She argued that something has to be done to help the middle and lower class, especially if she is noticing a dent in her $62 million net-worth

Back in September, Cardi shared her outrage over the ‘unbearable’ cost of living and the hot housing market.

She admitted that she has to financially help her family and friends and questioned how others survive.

Voicing her thoughts, she exclaimed: ‘There’s no m************ inventory when it comes to homes. Nobody’s gonna try to sell their f****** homes.

‘I was looking at some areas. The way that the prices soar up… like how are people surviving? I want to know.

‘My family and my friends, they’re so grateful to have me, but it’s just like, what happens to people who don’t have a me?’

The rapper appears to enjoy the finer items in life, especially luxury handbags. But it appears she doesn’t let her wealth get in the way of speaking out for other people.

Cardi has history in commenting on politics, famously getting into an online war of words with  Candace Owens back in 2020, after the conservative commentator called the Grammy-winning rapper ‘illiterate’ and an ‘embarrassment’ to black people.

The feud began when Owens shared a clip of her appearance on The Ben Shapiro Show, in which she slammed then-Democratic nominee Joe Biden for taking part in an interview with Cardi for Elle.

Owens said it was ‘one of the biggest insults’ to black voters that Biden decided to do the interview with an ‘illiterate rapper’, rather than someone who could ask the ‘tough questions’.

The Republican went on to say that Biden thinks ‘black people are stupid’ and likened his interview with Cardi B to Donald Trump being interviewed by Justin Bieber.

Candace Owens, a conservative political commentator, harshly criticized Cardi B’s Grammy performance

Cardi caught wind of Owens’ comments and hit back at her in a video on Instagram, in which she insisted Biden decided to sit down with her because of her wide-ranging influence.

‘It’s not a secret I use my platform to encourage people to vote,’ Cardi, who previously endorsed Bernie Sanders said during the video.

‘I have millions of followers. I pay millions in taxes. I have the Number One song in this country, I have the Number One song in the United Kingdom, I have the Number One song in Australia, I have the Number One song in New Zealand.

‘Just like I can make millions of people pop their p****y,’ she said of her hit-single WAP, ‘I can make millions of people go out and vote.’

Cardi previously said she used to talk more openly about politics but halted when she was continuously ‘attacked’ by conservatives, according to Billboard.

One person on Twitter questioned why she stopped being vocal in 2021.

‘I was tired of getting bullied by the republicans and also getting bashed by the same people I was standing up for,’ she wrote in response.

Cardi continues to voice her opinion and previously spoke out about Russia and Ukraine before they officially went to war in February.

At the time, she was asked on Twitter what she ‘thinks about the whole Russia thing.’

Insisting her phone wasn’t hacked, Cardi told fans ‘I feel like if I don’t say the right things I might get killed’ before urging world leaders to ‘stop tripping on power.’

The rapper shared a tweet in response to the fan question about Russia, writing: ‘Wish these world leaders stop tripping about power and really think about whose really getting affected (citizens) besides the whole world is in a crisis. War, sanctions, invasions should be the last thing these leaders should worry about.’

After another fan wrote ‘okay, pass Cardi her phone back now,’ she jumped on a video to insist her ‘phone is not hacked, it’s really me.’

‘I actually wanna say a lot of things but I’m just gonna mind my business because sometimes I feel like I have such a big platform that if I don’t say the right things I might get killed,’ she explained.

‘But I’m really not on Nato’s side, I’m not on Russia’s side, I’m actually on the citizens side because at the end of the day the world is having a crisis right now,’ Cardi continued.

‘There’s inflation not only in America but everywhere in the world. It’s really hard to get the economy back up. There is so much shipments backed up.’

The consumer price index rose at the fastest rate in 40 years earlier in 2022

The Fed rapidly raised interest rates in 2022 to fight inflation, increasing recession risks

While inflation came down slightly in the later months of 2022, the U.S. saw record-high rates earlier in the year.

In November, inflation in the US came in at 7.1 percent. The number, still high, marked the fifth-straight month of shrinking annual increases.

The Wall Street Journal survey of 23 primary dealers, the large financial firms that do business directly with the Federal Reserve, found a majority expect a recession in the coming year.

It follows the Fed’s rapid rate hikes designed to battle soaring inflation last year, which saw the benchmark rate rise from near zero in March to a range of 4.25 percent to 4.5 percent by the end of the year.

The central bank forecasts that will reach a range of 5 percent to 5.25 percent by the end of 2023. Its forecast doesn’t call for a rate cut before 2024.

The Fed policy rate is now at its highest level since prior to the 2008 recession, as the central bank attempts to bring inflation down without triggering an economic downturn.

By the Fed’s preferred measure, inflation is still running nearly three times its 2 percent goal, having risen earlier in 2022 at its fastest pace in 40 years.

President Joe Biden signed Inflation Reduction Act into law in August in low-key ceremony

Biden signed the $430 billion Inflation Reduction Act in August to combat rising prices.

But Republicans argued the legislation would lead to higher energy prices, higher taxes for the middle class, and, potentially, more audits from the Internal Revenue Service.

The act includes incentives for the clean energy industry, permits Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for the elderly, seeks to ensure corporations and wealthy people pay their taxes through enhanced IRS resources, and aims to combat inflation by reducing the federal deficit.

Biden argued he and the Democrats have helped steer the economy back to more solid ground.

The president originally wanted to pass his trillion-dollar social welfare bill known as ‘Build Back Better.’ But it died a legislative death when moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin refused to support it, citing concerns it would raise the deficit.

Manchin signed onto the Inflation Reduction Act after months of negotiations.

An artist is considering legal action against Cardi B for her butt-baring Halloween costume

  • Cardi B dressed as Marge Simpson in a Thierry Mugler-inspired dress for Halloween on Instagram.

  • AleXsandro Palombo, who created the original art, wants to take legal action against the rapper.

  • Palombo’s lawyer says Cardi B misappropriated his work without proper credit.

A contemporary pop artist known for transforming The Simpsons in his art says he could take action against Cardi B for recreating his work in a Halloween Instagram post.

Italian artist aleXsandro Palombo claims Cardi B was never authorized to use his art for her Oct. 31 post, in which the rapper portrayed Marge Simpson in a dress cut out on the backside to expose her butt cleavage.

Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, did not credit Palombo in her post but used a picture of his art in the series of photos that she posted.

She did, however, nod to French designer Thierry Mugler, the designer whose dress inspired Palombo’s work, in her Instagram caption.

Palombo, who created the artwork for Vogue UK in 2013, wrote in an Instagram post that he contacted Cardi B and did not receive a reply.

Claudio Volpi, a lawyer working with Palombo, told Artnet News that Cardi B defied  “the most elementary rules on copyright and Instagram policies” when she used Palombo’s art without credit.

Volpi also told Artnet that after the image was posted on the social media accounts of Cardi B and two of her team members, Palombo reached out to them and requested that those involved correct the error and link to his Instagram page.

When that request was not fulfilled, Volpi sent a formal notice, saying that if Cardi B and her team did not follow through with the demands, they may take legal action, Volpi told the outlet.

In October, Cardi B won a lawsuit after a man accused the rapper of misappropriating his likeness by using his tattoos in her raunchy album art.

Representatives for Cardi B and Palombo did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Cardi B Rocks a Sexy Marge Simpson Costume for Halloween

We just need to hear her say, ‘Oh, Homie!’

Cardi B has solidified herself as a music icon, but now she’s ready to gain some fame for her dedication to the fashion world.

The “Tomorrow 2” singer went all-out with her Halloween costume this year, posing as a very sexy Marge Simpson for Instagram. And while describing the iconic cartoon character as “sexy” seems wrong, everything about Cardi’s costume is oh-so-right.

The award-winning rapper shared a slew of photos to the social media platform earlier today, Oct. 31, and we’re not sure how anyone else is supposed to compete with her–especially Lizzo, who also dressed as Marge this year.

In the first set of images, Cardi painted herself yellow, donned a kiwi green corset, red pumps, and a matching statement necklace, and fastened a blue beehive wig to her head. While the celeb recreated some scenes from The Simpsons, she also made sure to work her own legacy into each photo.

In the first image, Cardi dusted off her Grammy award, and in the third, a copy of her 2018 record Invasion of Privacy was neatly tucked away in the background. Along with her tattoos, Cardi’s tongue and famous laugh made an appearance–as to not forget who the real star of the show is.

In a second post shared by the 30-year-old artist, Cardi offered fans a “Mugler-inspired” version of Marge, referencing the late French fashion designer Thierry Mugler who was known for his eccentric and extravagant avant-garde designs.

In the photos, Cardi wore a sleek, black and white gown outfitted with a crystal cut-out back. Showing off her curves and modeling capabilities, the singer perfectly recreated a 2013 version of Marge initially drawn by the contemporary pop artist aleXsandro Palombo

Her fans couldn’t get enough of the cosplay, and many took to the comments to tell her how much they loved these looks.

“ATEEEEE,” exclaimed choreographer Sean Bankhead, while celebrity makeup artist Norvina later added, “loveeeeeee🔥🔥🔥.”

“Oh you won Halloween on G,” another follower declared.

Or, as Marge Simpson would say, “Mhmm, oh, Homie!”

Cardi B Reacts to Madonna’s ‘Sex’ Book Reflection – Billboard

Update: As of Sunday late morning, Cardi B and Madonna have made amends. Cardi wrote on Twitter that she had a “beautiful” conversation with Madonna. And the Queen of Pop tweeted, “I love you @iamcardib!! Always have and always will.” Cardi has also deleted her reactionary tweets.

Cardi B is feeling disrespected after being mentioned in Madonna‘s reflection on the 30th anniversary of her Sex coffee table book.

The superstar rapper took to social media on Sunday (Oct. 23) to fire back at the Queen of Pop following an Instagram Post about how the iconic singer’s then-scandalous book — released in conjunction with her 1992 album, Erotica — helped pave the way for other female artists expressing their sexuality.

“30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X. In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone,” Madonna wrote on Saturday night, noting that she faced a great deal of criticism at the time. “Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball.”

She closed with, You’re welcome b—-es,” alongside a clown face emoji.

In a series of since-deleted tweets the next morning, Cardi wrote that she felt disrespected by the post, especially Madonna’s use of the clown emoji.

“I literally payed this woman homage so many times cause I grew up listening to her …she can make her point without putting clown emojis and getting slick out the mouth,” the rapper wrote alongside a screenshot of a 2018 Billboard article in which she praises Madonna. “These icons really become disappointments once u make it in the industry that’s why I keep to myself.”

Some Twitter users wrote that Cardi failed to comprehend Madonna’s point, noting that Madge was saying she “paved the way for sexual songs to become mainstream” and that the singer wasn’t trying to insult the rapper.

“I know exactly what she said and I understand,” Cardi replied, “but it’s about THE TONE …Calling me b—-es and putting clown emojis ? The f—!”

In a similar reaction, the rapper wrote, “EXACTLY SAY WAT YOU WANT TO SAY BUT DONT INSULT ME THE F— …nobody gonna lil girl me (specially a white woman).”

Later Sunday morning, Hollywood Unlocked founder Jason Lee tweeted that he was “on the phone with Madonna and Cardi” and listening to the stars “share their perspective on the communication going on has broadened their love for each other.”

Shortly after, both Cardi and Madonna took to Twitter to share that they had patched things up. “I talked to Madonna …It was beautiful …Have a great day and drive safely yallll,” the rapper wrote. Madonna added, “I love you @iamcardib!! Always have and always will.”

In 2018, Cardi gushed after meeting her “idol” Madonna at an Oscars afterparty, where she posed for pictures alongside the singer and Kardashian.

“I met my real life IDOL Madonna. I can’t even believe I performed at her event and it was the most meaningful performance ever,” Cardi wrote on Instagram at the time. “I grew up with my mom listening to Madonna for hours. I performed ‘Material Girl’ freshman year in High school, listen to her on all my photo shoots to have super confidence and always mentioned her in my interviews. The best part about it is she was everything i thought she would be a Liberal Kick ass feminist bitch. I’m soo happy.”

A Man In Cali Is Suing Cardi B Over An Image Literally Nobody Thought Was Him

Cardi B arrives at a photo call for “Hustlers” on Aug. 25, 2019, in Beverly Hills, Calif . The rapper turns 30 on Oct. 11.

I doubt anyone’s ever bought or streamed Cardi B’s music to admire the accompanying album artwork, but here we are. A man in California is suing the rapper, claiming she humiliated him and damaged his reputation by using his image on a mixtape cover from 2016. Yep, six years ago.

The story goes like this: Back then, Cardi was a rising star still in the early stages of parlaying her role on Love & Hip Hop into her current megastardom. Along the way she dropped a few mixtapes, one of which featured an image of Cardi posing with a man’s head between her legs.

The problem is that the picture was digitally altered to add part of a distinctive back tattoo that belongs to Kevin Michael Brophy, who now says he’s traumatized that—again, six years ago—people who’ve never met him and don’t know who he is saw the tattoo on a dude who was simulating having a Cardi B sandwich for lunch.

From U.S. News and World Report

“Their life has been disrupted,” Cappello told the jury as Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, watched from the defense table. He said the image disturbed Brophy along with his wife, Lindsay Michelle Brophy, who he says initially questioned her husband if it was him in the cover art. The couple has two young children.

Brody has said he once considered his back tattoo featuring a tiger battling a serpent to be a “Michelangelo piece” that has since become “raunchy and disgusting.”

We question that whole bit about the wife questioning Brophy, not because he’s likely not Cardi B’s type, but simply because of this: he’s white and the model wearing his tattoo is Black.

Brophy is asking for $5 million in the case.

Cardi B pleads guilty to 2 misdemeanors

Cardi B has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors today, Pitchfork reports, at least one of which was in relation to an incident that took place at a strip club back in 2018. The rapper and musician has been sentenced to 15 days of community service in relation to the crime, as well as being ordered to pay court fees.

Specifically, Cardi B (and two co-defendants) entered a guilty plea on assault in the third degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree, in relation to an incident in which the musician was accused of ordering her bodyguards to beat up bartenders at a strip club in Queens. Ten other charges, including some felonies, were initially brought up against her and her entourage, but were later dropped. (There was also, per Pitchfork, an attempt at one point by the D.A.’s office to use social media posts to prove that the assault was allegedly pre-meditated, but Facebook and Instagram refused to play ball.)

Cardi B issued a statement about the charges today:

Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it’s a practice that I am trying to instill in my children, but the example starts with me. I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to. These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now. I’m looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most—the music and my fans.

The Queens district attorney’s office issued a statement of its own today, noting that, “No one is above the law,” and expressing its happiness at the outcome of the case.

Cardi B pleads guilty in Queens strip club fight, avoids time in jail

NEW YORK (WABC) — Cardi B will avoid jail after pleading guilty to two misdemeanors for her role in a 2018 brawl in a Flushing, Queens, strip club.

The rapper, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, pleaded guilty Thursday to third degree assault and reckless endangerment, both misdemeanors.

The charges had been upgraded to felonies when she was indicted in 2019, but on Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to the initial charges from the Aug. 29, 2018 attack.

She agreed to 15 days community service. If she fails to complete the community service, she will have to serve 15 days in jail.

The attack at the Angels Strip Club in Flushing stemmed from a long-simmering feud between Cardi B and two sisters who are bartenders at the club.

Cardi B reportedly accused one of the women of having an affair with her husband, Offset, a member of the rap trio Migos.

A fight broke out and Cardi B and others with her threw bottles, chairs and hookah pipes in the clash.

The rapper appeared in court with two co-defendants, Tawana Jackson-Morel and Jeffrey Bush, who also pleaded guilty in court Thursday.

The 35-year-old Bush, accused of the actual assault, will serve six months behind bars.

All three agreed to stay away from the two female victims.

Attorney Drew Findling said outside court that Cardi agreed to the last minute plea because she has “moved to another part of her life” and “a three week jury trial would be a distraction from the things that she felt were most important.”

He said for her, 15 days of community service is no different than the community service she has served over the past few years, ticking off prior examples.

“As soon as she does this community service, which will obviously be consistent with community service she does anyway, that will be the end,” he said.

Another attorney, Jeff Kern, said the community service would be in Queens, and hinted it would involve children.

“The idea is she’s going to do something that plays to her strengths, in terms of reaching people, particularly young people,” Kern said. “Positive messages about education, about staying on track.”

Before Thursday morning’s plea, jury selection was set to begin Friday and Cardi’s trial would have started Monday.

Cardi B released the following statement:

“Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it’s a practice that I am trying to instill in my children, but the example starts with me. I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to. These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now. I’m looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most–the music and my fans.”

“No one is above the law,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “In pleading guilty today, Ms. Belcalis Almanzar and two co-defendants have accepted responsibility for their actions. This Office is satisfied with the resolution, which includes appropriate community service.”
