Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach under investigation after car crash

A Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach is under investigation after he was involved in a car crash that left a 5-year-old child with life-threatening injuries.

Britt Reid, the outside linebackers coach and son of head coach Andy Reid, got in a car crash on Thursday near the team’s stadium, according to a Kansas City Missouri Police Department report obtained by ESPN

The collision involved three vehicles: Britt Reid’s and two others that were parked on the side of the road. One car ran out of gas on the ramp to Interstate 435, so the driver called family members for help.

While the two cars were parked on the side of the ramp, Reid hit the car that ran out of gas and then rear-ended the second car, which left a 4-year-old injured and a 5-year-old with life-threatening injuries. Both children were taken to the hospital, according to the report.

A police officer’s statement obtained by ESPN said the officer at the scene smelled “a moderate odor of alcoholic beverages” and saw that Reid’s eyes were bloodshot.

Reid, who has a history of driving under the influence, admitted that he had a couple of drinks before driving in addition to taking prescribed Adderall, the statement said. Reid ended up complaining about stomach issues and is now in the hospital.

Reid’s injuries are unknown, but he could be in the hospital for days, a source told ESPN. Another source said that Reid will not be going to the Super Bowl on Sunday with his team.

The police told ESPN that any charges won’t be filed until after the Super Bowl. No one else who was involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries.

“The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”

The Hill has reached out to the Kansas City Missouri Police Department for a copy of the report.

Sabrina Carpenter Sits On Car In New Video After Apparent Olivia Rodrigo Feud

So! High School Musical: The Musical: The Series costars Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett were apparently dating (although this was never confirmed) and when they apparently broke up, things were rumored to be getting pretty messy behind the scenes.

On the same day as Joshua was pictured on an apparent lunch-date with Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia dropped a picture on Instagram wearing a “dump him” T-shirt, which seemed pointed to say the least. And so, an apparent love-triangle/feud was born.

The 17-year-old wouldn’t be drawn on whether the song was about her costar, but she also didn’t shut the rumors down either. In an interview with Billboard, she said: “I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song.”

Then in steamrolled Joshua, who also released a few songs of his own which seemed to be a response to Olivia. One such track was called “Lie Lie Lie” which…well, it’s not exactly subtle, is it?

Somalia: Ongoing siege following car explosion at hotel gate in Mogadishu

Police told CNN the country’s former defense minister, Mohamed Nur Galal, is confirmed dead in the attack. Officials did not provide further details and did not confirm whether there were more casualties in the ongoing battle.

Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble sent condolences following Galal’s death.

“My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the heinous terror attack in Hotel Afrik including Gen Mohamed Nur Galal who served his country with valor for over 50 years,” Roble said via Twitter. “This attack is yet another reminder of the savage enemy we face. We must unite against terror.”

A car bomb exploded at the gate of Afrik hotel and was followed by gunfire heard inside, Somali police captain, Ahmed Hassan, told CNN. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. local time (9 a.m. ET), Hassan added.

Gunmen from the al Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab gained access to the building after the car bomb explosion at the gate, he said.

There is an ongoing operation to rescue people from inside the hotel, according to police.

The reason for the attack is also unclear but Hassan said a top military commander was inside the hotel at the time of the attack. Other senior military officials and lawmakers were also inside the hotel, Hassan said.

The hotel is frequented by members of Parliament, politicians and security officials, but not foreigners.

Outside the hotel is the main security checkpoint to the airport and Halane base, which houses western missions, including the US embassy.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack through a statement broadcast by Andalus Radio, its mouthpiece channel. CNN has been unable to independently verify this claim.

The Islamist insurgent group, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, wants to turn Somalia into a fundamentalist Islamic state.
It claimed responsibility for a a truck bombing outside Mogadishu in December which killed 85 including two Turkish citizens.
Another terror attack at a hotel in Kismayo in Somalia’s Jubaland state in July left more than 26 people dead including journalists and local government officials.
The militant group also said it was behind a triple car bombing near a hotel in Mogadishu in which at least 52 people were killed and 100 injured in November 2018.
US forces that had been based in Somalia began their withdrawal from the country in December and were redirected to other bases in East Africa.

US troops in Somalia primarily train and advise local Somali forces as they battle Al-Shabaab. The US military also carries out airstrikes against the group and the local ISIS affiliate in the country, killing a top Al-Shabaab leader in a targeted strike in September.

Former US President Donald Trump ordered the majority of US troops to leave Somalia “by early 2021,” in just one of the major military policy decisions taken in the final days of his administration.

Omar Nor reported from Mogadishu and Radina Gigova wrote from Atlanta, Georgia.

Hyundai said to be ‘agonizing’ over Apple’s electric car

Hyundai might not be in a rush to make Apple’s electric car despite reports of a tentative deal. Reuters sources claim Hyundai executives are “agonizing” over how the company will cooperate with Apple, or whether or not it’s a wise idea in the first place. The Korean automaker is reportedly hesitant to work with outside firms, and might even replace higher-ups to prevent a conflict between the two fiercely independent companies.

The company might have Kia team up with Apple to avoid associating the core Hyundai brand (and the upscale Genesis badge) with contract manufacturing. It would be “just like Foxconn,” one executive told Reuters. Apple is rumored to want Hyundai primarily for final assembly in the US. The chassis, drivetrain and other components would come from other companies, the sources said.

Apple declined to comment. Hyundai didn’t mention talks with Apple when discussing its latest earnings.

There could be incentives for Hyundai to cooperate. It might get access to some of Apple’s self-driving hardware and software. More importantly, Hyundai could use the business. It currently has unused manufacturing capacity, and an Apple car could make better use of those production lines. It may just be a question of whether or not Hyundai is willing to swallow its pride to strike a deal that might help its bottom line.

GUANGZHOU, China — Shares of the electric vehicle unit of Chinese property giant Evergrande surged as much as 67% on Monday after the company raised significant funding through a new share sale.

China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group surged to an all-time-high of 50 Hong Kong dollars before paring some of those gains. Shares of the company closed at 45.35 Hong Kong dollars.

The stock rocketed after the Chinese electric car company issued 952.38 million shares to six investors at a price of $27.30 Hong Kong dollars and raised net proceeds of 26 billion Hong Kong dollars ($3.35 billion).

The funding is another sign that China’s electric car market is heating up, and Evergrande could pose a challenge to Tesla as well as domestic rivals such as Nio and Xpeng Motors.

Last year, Evergrande showed off six new electric vehicles under a brand called Hengchi, with the hope of starting production this year. The company has not sold a single car yet.

In September, the company raised around 4 billion Hong Kong dollars through the sale of shares to investors including Chinese internet giant Tencent and ride-hailing service Didi.

China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group is also preparing for a listing on Shanghai’s Nasdaq-style Science and Technology Innovation Board, or the Star Market.

China’s electric car companies have been aggressively raising capital to ramp up production and take a lead in the competitive market.

Xpeng Motors raised $1.5 billion in an initial public offering in the U.S. last year and this month secured a credit line of 12.8 billion yuan ($1.98 billion).

This month, BYD — the Chinese electric carmaker backed by American billionaire Warren Buffett — said it raised 29.9 billion Hong Kong dollars through the issuance of new shares.

Or climate justice,” said Scarlette Bustos with Women’s March Sacramento.”All of those things are women’s issues.
