Florida Burger King employee Shateasha Hicks shoots customer who threw mayo at her

A Burger King employee in Florida allegedly shot a customer after he threw mayonnaise at her face, police and local reports said.

Shateasha Hicks, 30, was arrested Thursday and charged with discharging a firearm in public after the incident at the Miami Gardens fast-food joint.

Police said Hicks opened fire on a man after an argument at the drive-thru window.

A relative of Hicks told NBC 6 that the customer she shot had squirted or thrown mayonnaise in her face.

The customer drove off and parked in the Burger King lot, according to a witness.

Hicks then allegedly went to her car, grabbed a gun and squeezed off five shots at the person’s vehicle as they drove away, according to an arrest report obtained by the outlet.

She got into her car and fled the scene, but was arrested after cops spotted her vehicle about a mile from her home, the report said.

A gun was found on the floorboard of Hicks’ car, and investigators recovered five bullet casings in the Burger King parking lot, according to the report.

Hicks walked out of Miami-Dade County jail on Friday evening after making her $1,000 bond.

It’s not clear if the customer, who hasn’t been tracked down by authorities, was injured in the shooting.

Hicks’ aunt claimed her niece was defending herself.

“She was protecting herself. I don’t blame her. Everybody else might, but I don’t,” she told Local10.

A witness who identified himself as Kevin told the outlet that he was purchasing a burger at the time of the shooting — and saw the victim “making faces” at Hicks.

“He was making faces at her through the car window, out here in the road, and that’s when he pulled in here and that just set her off,” he said.

The employee’s aunt claimed her niece was defending herself.

A Burger King spokesperson called the incident “unacceptable.”

“We are horrified to learn of the events that unfolded at this location. This unacceptable behavior does not align with our brand values of safety and security,” the spokesperson said. “Our franchisee is cooperating with local authorities. As this remains an ongoing investigation, we aren’t able to share additional details at this time.”

Mother of slain Burger King cashier Kristal Bayron-Nieves demands justice

The family of a young woman gunned down at a Manhattan Burger King demanded justice Saturday as they thanked supporters at a makeshift memorial.

Kristal Bayron-Nieves, 19, was killed during a robbery while working the night shift last week.

Her mother, Kristie Nieves, 36, clutched a big teddy bear handed to her by a supporter. She came to the crime scene, walking distance from the family’s home, with a sister, brother-in-law and cousins.

She began speaking to reporters and well-wishers but did not get far.

“Thank you everyone and everyone who supported me including my family” she said, growing increasingly emotional. “The only thing I want is justice for my daughter. And maybe she is not the first one but I do hope she is the last one …”

Nieves then broke down, and was unable to continue. A relative helped her back to the car in which she came.

One of Nieves’ relatives said the family is meeting with lawyers to discuss a possible lawsuit against Burger King.

Posters reading “Don’t Shoot I Want to Grow Up!” and “Boycott Black Murder – I Can’t Kill My Brother” and “Justice for Kristal” among others were part of a memorial of candles, flowers and stuffed animals outside the Burger King.

The family, which moved to New York from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, lives just five blocks away.

The young woman, who had just started working at the fast-food restaurant three weeks before — and already wanted off the late shift because she was so scared — was fatally shot in the stomach over $100 on Jan. 9, cops said.

“We really don’t have any safety in here. All the Burger Kings have security. They see how bad it is in here … they never got security for us at all,” co-worker Samantha Martinez told The Post. “I don’t really think they care about us.”

She said Krystal’s colleagues don’t want to go back to work at the East Harlem location where she was so cruelly gunned down.

“I was on the phone with her when she was gonna change her shift. I told her to change it because that was my fear — me and her was the youngest ones in here and they have us working so late, almost midnight,” Martinez said.

Winston Glynn, 30, — who previously worked at the same Burger King location — was arrested Friday and hit with first-degree murder and robbery charges.

His rap sheet dates back to 2017, and includes a November arrest for threatening a security guard at the homeless shelter in Queens where he was living. Glynn was released from jail on his own recognizance after the incident because the misdemeanor charge was not “bail eligible.”

The alleged victim in that case, for which Glynn is due in court in March, declined to comment to The Post Saturday.

A man who claimed he was Glynn’s roommate at the homeless shelter for several months said he was shocked the man he knew as “Junior” could be capable of murder and called him a “pretty stand-up guy.”

“He had a lot of issues with him with seeing demons and stuff like that,” Tyrique Brisco, 35, told The Post. “He smoked crack and he used to see things. But he wasn’t a bad dude.”

Brisco said Glynn was “definitely on medication” including “sleeping medicine.”

“I know he’s from Jamaica and he came here. He have no family really,” Brisco said. ” He was just trying to get out of here with his voucher. If they helped him a little better or faster, he wouldn’t be in the situation now. You can blame the shelter system for that in a way because they are not giving us what we need.”

A viewing and wake for Bayron-Nieves will take place at Manhattan Funeral Services, 300 East 104th St. on Tuesday, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her body will then be taken to Puerto Rico for burial.

Burger King murder suspect Winston Glynn held behind bars, calls judge ‘liar’ in court

The man charged with the “cold-blooded” murder of a 19-year-old Burger King employee blew up in court, repeatedly screaming “Liar!” at the judge during his arraignment Friday night.

Winston Glynn, 30, was ordered held without bail on charges of first-degree murder and robbery in the Jan. 9 killing of Kristal Bayron-Nieves, who was shot dead during her shift at the fast-food joint on East 116th Street and Lexington Avenue.

The alleged gunman had multiple outbursts during his first appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court, yelling at Judge Jay Weiner while being escorted out of the courtroom, as his Legal Aid attorney apologized.

“Liar! You didn’t see the judge liar?” the suspect ranted.

The brief hearing was attended by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who did not comment.

Assistant District Attorney Dafna Yoran requested that Glynn be remanded into custody, citing the seriousness of the charges, the fact that he does not have a “stable address,” and his connections to Florida and Jamaica.

“He intentionally killed a 19-year-old Burger King employee in a premeditated gunpoint robbery… He also pistol whipped two others, who were present – including a 60-year-old female manager,” Yoran said.

Glynn’s next court date was set for Jan. 19.

He was busted earlier Friday at an address in Brooklyn, “where detectives recovered items of clothing worn by the killer he tried to dispose of,” Yoran said.

Police said they tracked him down by reviewing “extensive” video footage that captured him carrying a distinctive backpack and white earbuds.

Investigators were also able to trace Glynn to a Manhattan store where he used an EBT card for a purchase prior to the slaying, police officials said.

Glynn — a Jamaica national whose address is listed as a Days Inn in Queens that also serves as a homeless shelter — once worked at the same Burger King, though investigators do not believe that he targeted Bayron-Nieves in the early Sunday-morning stickup.

Winston Glynn was ordered held without bail following multiple outbursts directed at Judge Jay Weiner.

The teen was working as a cashier at the restaurant at around 1 a.m. when a masked and armed robber walked in and pistol-whipped a male customer before punching a female manager in the face, cops said.

“Give me the cash!” he shouted while pointing a gun at Bayron-Nieves, according to a police source, who said the teen had trouble opening the register drawer.

When she got it open, she handed the robber the cash. She was crouching behind a second register when she was shot, police officials said.

The teen — who had started the job only three weeks earlier — was taken to Metropolitan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, cops said.

The killer got away with just $100, the victim’s family said

Earlier Friday, Glynn yelled at a crowd of angry onlookers as cops marched him out of 25th Precinct stationhouse to take him to court.

“Where’s our reparations for four hundred years of f–king slavery!” the suspect yelled.

“F–k you all!” he yelled, according to a video taken at the scene by a Post photographer.

Mayor Eric Adams attended a news conference announcing the suspect’s capture, saying he felt compelled to speak about the “cold-blooded killer.”

“When I visited her [Bayron-Nieves’s] mother, just sort of the pain of the face, how much this tore her apart. We don’t see those cries, you don’t see the pain often,” the Democrat said.

Burger King murder: Distinctive belt led cops to person of interest in killing of 19-year-old Kristal Bayron-Nieves in East Harlem

EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) — A person of interest is being questioned in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old cashier at a Burger King in East Harlem.

The unidentified 30-year-old man was picked up by detectives in Brooklyn on Thursday. No charges have been filed.

The family of 19-year-old Kristal Bayron-Nieves was told of the possible break in the case.

Police released a security camera video showing the suspect:

A distinctive belt and an EBT card led detectives to the man they believe fatally shot the 19-year-old Burger King cashier.

The man is believed to have actually worked at the same Burger King at some point in the past, although it is not believed he knew his victim.

Although most of his wardrobe at the time of the killing was non-descript, he was spotted wearing a distinctive “Guess” belt by detectives during an extensive canvass of surveillance video.

Detectives were able to match the belt to one he was wearing on a picture he posted on Instagram.

The man was also linked by an EBT card he used after the fatal shooting.

He is believed to have fled the scene on a number 6 subway train, taking it from 116th St to 110th Street.

He walked into a bodega off 110th Street, and instead of using the proceeds from the robbery, bought a fruit drink using his EBT card.

Detectives got his name from the card, and tracked him to a Days Inn near Kennedy Airport in Queens, which is currently being used as a shelter.

He was not caught there, instead nabbed while visiting a girlfriend Thursday on Patchen Avenue in Brooklyn.

Detectives are still looking for the .9 millimeter handgun used in the shooting.

He allegedly pistol-whipped the manager with the gun and also took the managers phone.

He then apparently shot the female cashier as she struggled to get the register open.

He has seven prior arrests in New York City.

Sunday’s cold-blooded killing of a young person working a dangerous overnight shift to save money shocked many in the city.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams brought up the case Thursday while talking about unacceptable levels of crime.

“The 19-year-old baby that was shot, we have to catch that guy,” said Adams. “And I refuse to apologize for people who are violent in our city. Those crimes, we are zeroing in on. And we are going to make sure they are taken off our street like the district attorney did with that gang takedown.”

Adams, who previously said the murder was particularly senseless because the victim gave the suspect the $100 that was in the cash register, and he shot her anyway, once again expressed his outrage at the killing on Friday morning.

“I am so focused on stopping 19-year-old girls from being shot in Burger King,” he said at an unrelated event in Queens.

The mayor said he has not received an update on the person of interest being questioned.

Bayron-Nieves had moved to New York from Puerto Rico with her mom, her 14-year-old brother and the family cat two years ago.

Family members are raising money to return her body there for burial. Family members are raising money to return her body there for burial.

A GoFundMe campaign had raised $24,000 as of Friday morning.

Her wake will be held next Tuesday.

Meantime, the reward posted in connection with the case stands at least $20,000.

Community activists gathered outside the Burger King Tuesday night where Bayron-Nieves was shot.

As Jim Dolan reported, they called for an end to the violence and their pleas were loud and filled with pain and grief.

Taco Bell Chicken Sandwich Taco

Photo: Kotaku

Taco Bell has a new chicken sandwich that’s also a taco, but is also not a taco or even really a sandwich. It’s weird. Yet, even weirder than all that is that I.. like it?

In the world of fast food, the chicken sandwich wars rage on. It all started in 2019, when Popeyes introduced a new fried chicken sandwich to its menu. People lost their collective shit over it. Where I live, the local Popeyes was packed in the weeks and months following the new menu items rollout. I remember passing by the joint as a line of 40 cars in the drive-thru stretched out past the parking lot and into the road. In response, other places like McDonald’s and Burger King have added new and (supposedly) improved chicken sandwiches.

And now, surprisingly, Taco Bell has decided to join the ongoing war with its new chicken taco sandwich. And folks, I hate myself for typing this next sentence but: I love it.

So what is the chicken taco sandwich? Well, it’s essentially a crispy and fried large chicken tender placed inside a soft pita bread “taco shell” with some Taco Bell chipotle sauce. You can also get a spicy variant which is the same thing, but with some jalapenos tossed into the mix. Is this actually a sandwich? I don’t think so. Is it a taco? That’s probably a better way to describe it, but I’m still not so sure. I get why Taco Bell decided to just go with the name Chicken sandwich taco, because while that name really doesn’t make sense, it would end up being what most folks called this thing anyway. Most likely, saying the name with a high-pitch voice and in a questioning tone.

Thing is, crispy chicken and pita bread plus some decent sauce is not a hugely unique concept, but still a tasty creation. I ordered two as I wasn’t sure how big they would be and I ended up eating both of them and not hating a minute of it. The chicken is very crunchy and contains just enough spice so as not to be bland, but not too much so your boring uncle or whatever can still enjoy it. The spicy variant is spicier, but anything is spicier if you add jalapenos to the recipe.

Photo: Kotaku

The pita bread-like shell is soft, but not as soft as a standard tortilla you would find at Taco Bell. However, it’s also not as messy or crunchy as a hard shell taco either. It sits somewhere in the middle.

Taco Bell has said it’s a temporary item only, which is sad. I’d be happy to have it on the menu for the foreseeable future. Unlike some past Taco Bell experiments (the waffle taco…*shivers*) this crunchy chicken sandwich taco is a winner in my book. And after trying all the other fast-food chicken sandwich contenders, it’s by far the most unique spin on an item that is quickly becoming overdone and dull.

I guess you could say, Taco Bell really did think outside the bun on this one.

No. Wait. Stop. I can’t end this blog like that. Oh, I’m out of time.

Shit…

Memphis police seek woman after Burger King drive thru shooting over wait time

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A drive-through order at a Tennessee fast food restaurant took a violent turn Tuesday.

A customer angry about how long her order was taking at Burger King decided to shoot up the restaurant, and it was all caught on camera.

“Crime is just getting bad everywhere now,” said Eddie House, a customer at the Burger King.

House is disappointed a woman is accused of shooting up his local Burger King, but said he’s not surprised.

“More security, more police in the area would probably help,” he said.

Memphis police are now looking for the woman.

It all started when she got angry about how long she was waiting in the drive-thru for her food, police said.

She got out of her car, walked up to the drive-thru window, started arguing with an employee before she began shooting, according to officials.

“I hate they was impatient,” said customer Dewayne Wilson. “Kids work there. So you know that’s the thing.”

Surveillance video shows employees run for cover, as well as a glimpse of the shooter’s car.

No one was injured, WHBQ reported.

“That’s kind of messed up, I’m glad everyone is OK,” Wilson added.

Memphis police are looking for the public’s help in finding the suspect. Anyone who recognizes the shooter or her car is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-cash.
