Bucs’ Antoine Winfield Jr. shows off massive Super Bowl tattoo

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie Antoine Winfield Jr. celebrated winning his first Super Bowl ring with a giant tattoo of the Lombardi Trophy across his forearm.

Winfield posted the photo of his tattoo on his Instagram Stories on Monday. The tattoo stretches from his elbow to his wrist. The top of the trophy is at his limb while the bottom “LV” stretches down his wrist. The tattoo includes the Buccaneers’ logo and two hands praying.

Winfield received his first Super Bowl victory earlier this month when the Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9. Somehow, the game was still costly for the defensive back.

PATRIOTS SHOULD TAKE LOOK AT MAC JONES AS FUTURE QUARTERBACK, EX-COACH SAYS

He was fined more than $7,800 for taunting Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Winfield, after breaking up a pass on fourth down during the game, gave Hill the peace sign right to his face. The “deuces” symbol had been used by Hill throughout the season when the wide receiver would scurry past defensive backs and linebackers on his way to the end zone on some plays during the season.

Winfield told reporters he “had to” give some sort of taunt back to Hill.

“It’s something I had to do,” he said, via the New York Post. “When we played earlier, he back-flipped in front of my face and gave me the peace sign. So, it was only right that I gave him the peace sign back to him. It felt amazing to do that. I’m not even going to lie.”

Bucs GM Jason Licht has epic response to daughter of Lombardi Trophy designer seeking apology

If Lorraine Grohs is looking for an apology over Tom Brady’s handling of the Lombardi Trophy during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl boat parade last week, she certainly isn’t going to get it from general manager Jason Licht.

Licht, like nearly every person on the internet, saw the viral video of Grohs, the daughter of the silversmith who crafted the original Vince Lombardi Trophy, saying she felt it was “disgraced and disrespected” when Brady chucked the trophy from his boat to other Bucs players on another boat.

TOM BRADY’S KNEE SURGERY ‘MORE THAN JUST A LITTLE CLEAN-UP’: REPORT

“It just really upset me that this trophy was disgraced and disrespected by being thrown as if it was a real football,” she said in the video posted on Saturday. “I didn’t sleep the past two nights because of this, I was that upset. Because I know the passion that goes into this trophy.”

She continued: “I personally would like an apology, not just to me and my family, and the other silversmiths but to the fans.”

Licht commented directly to the video posted on Twitter with a GIF from the popular 1981 Bill Murray film, “Stripes.”

“Lighten up Francis,” the message read.

It certainly not the first time that the Lombardi Trophy has been in less-than-favorable situations.

After winning the Super Bowl in 2019 with the New England Patriots, Rob Gronkowski was celebrating with his team when he used the trophy as a bat and hit a fast one by teammate Julian Edelman, denting the award.

He even joked immediately after the Bucs win that that was the reason why he hadn’t been able to hold the trophy yet.

The Bucs celebrated their first Super Bowl win since 2003, and Licht, his first since taking over in 2014.

‘Drunk Tom Brady’ trends as NFL legend is seen partying during Bucs’ Super Bowl parade

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and the rest of his teammates celebrated their Super Bowl LV victory on Wednesday afternoon with a boat parade.

At one point during the parade, Brady was captured launching the Lombardi Trophy from his boat to tight end Rob Gronkowski, who caught it with ease just like the two touchdown passes he caught on Sunday to help the Bucs win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.

Soon after a video surfaced of Brady being helped off the boat, which led to “Drunk Tom Brady” trending on social media. Brady himself decided to have some fun with fans on Twitter when he retweeted the video.

“Noting to see her…just litTle avoCado tequila,” Brady wrote.

There was a ton of reaction to the Brady video that went viral all over social media.

For the Tampa Bay players and the team’s fans, celebrating their first Super Bowl win since 2003 was the main attraction on Wednesday.

“We just made history in all the world,” linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul said. “This means so much to me, I’ll do it again. We’re gonna do it again.”

Antonio Brown ran wrong route on Super Bowl LV touchdown catch, Bucs coach says

Antonio Brown did just enough to impact Super Bowl LV in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Brown scored a touchdown on a pass from Tom Brady with 6 seconds left in the half to put Tampa Bay up 21-6. Tampa Bay quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen revealed Monday the route that Brown ran wasn’t exactly what he was supposed to do.

“A.B. on his touchdown catch was supposed to go down and in and then pop back out. He goes out and pops back in,” Christensen said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “I’m kind of going through the headset like ‘did he run the right route? Did he just do opposite of what he was supposed to do and we hit it for a touchdown?’ That was the case.”

Brady didn’t appear fazed by the play and found the wide receiver for the touchdown, and that was what impressed Christensen the most.

“And that’s where Brady doesn’t get thrown for a loop,” Christensen said. “He just hits the guy. ‘Hey, you get open, I’ll hit you.’ That’s where he’s pretty darn unique. A lot of quarterbacks are like ‘hey, he’s supposed to do this. A to B to C.’ This guy, A.B., goes C to F back to A and he just hits him for a touchdown. It was unbelievable.”

Brown and Brady hooked up five times for 22 yards in the game.

Tampa Bay signed Brown in the middle of the season while he was on an eight-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy over allegations of rape and sexual assault made by a former personal trainer and an arrest for an incident with a truck driver.

Brown played in eight games and had 45 catches for 483 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season.

Bucs QB coach says Antonio Brown ran wrong route on Super Bowl touchdown

Antonio Brown scored a touchdown for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl and managed to accomplish the feat while running the wrong route.

According to Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen, Brown did the exact opposite of what he was supposed to do on the play.

“A.B. on his touchdown catch was supposed to go down and in and then pop back out. He goes out and pops back in,” Christensen said in an interview with former NFL punter Pat McAfee on YouTube and Sirius XM. “I’m kind of going through the headset like ‘did he run the right route? Did he just do opposite of what he was supposed to do and we hit it for a touchdown?’ That was the case.”

Brown was lined up one-on-one against Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu on the play. He ran a “whip” route, which was supposed to see him initially cut inside before bouncing back toward the sideline. Instead, Brown reversed the action and whipped back inside instead.

Despite the mistake from Brown, Tom Brady managed to compensate for the diversion from the plan and still connected with Brown for the score.

Bucs WR Antonio Brown talks his past before Super Bowl

There was a time not so long ago when wide receiver Antonio Brown was widely considered the best wide receiver in the NFL. But one thing that escaped him during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers when he was breaking records was a Super Bowl. This Sunday, Brown has a chance to change this as a reserve with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brown spoke to the media on Wednesday and went out of his way to paint himself the victim in the whole debacle with the Steelers. “Scrutiny, adversity, you name it, I’ve been through it,” Brown said. “But it didn’t stop me. It didn’t make me want to give up.”

It’s important to remember that every one of the things that became a barrier to Brown’s success in the NFL after leaving Pittsburgh was a self-inflicted wound. All the off-field theatrics are on him. Brown may get himself a Super Bowl ring this weekend and I’m glad to see he seems to be showing a glimmer of sanity at this point in his life.

But I want to pass the question off to Steeler Nation. Will you be rooting for Brown to win a Super Bowl this weekend? Let us know in the comments below.

Bucs and Chiefs Super Bowl LV uniform colors revealed

The NFC champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers will wear their white jerseys with pewter pants in Super Bowl LV next Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

That means the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs will wear their red home uniforms, just as they did in their Super Bowl LIV win over the San Francisco 49ers last season. With the NFC having the home-team designation, the Bucs had the opportunity to choose first.

Back in their Week 12 loss, the Bucs wore red jerseys while the Chiefs wore their road whites. Perhaps the thinking was, if it’s broken, try to fix it.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs beat Bills, return to Super Bowl to meet Bucs

CLOSE

SportsPulse: Tom Brady made the right call. By leaving New England and joining Bruce Arians in Tampa Bay he was able to get the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl in 18 years.

USA TODAY

The Kansas City Chiefs knew the NFL had their number all season. They didn’t blink.

The Chiefs used stellar coaching and a stable of talent to answer nearly every challenge and engineer a second consecutive Super Bowl berth.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted a spectacular AFC championship performance just one week after entering the NFL’s concussion protocol. He cleared protocol on Friday and returned to lead his team to a decisive 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday night.

The Chiefs will face Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in Tampa for Super Bowl 55 on Feb. 7. The Bucs beat Green Bay in Lambeau Field 31-26 in the NFC championship game and will become the first team in NFL history to play the Super Bowl in its home stadium.

The Chiefs will aim to become the first team to defend their Super Bowl title since Brady and the Patriots after the 2003 and 2004 seasons. And they’ll have to beat Brady, who reached his 10th Super Bowl in 20 seasons, to do so.

“The job’s not finished,” Mahomes said. “We’re going to Tampa. We’re going to try to run it back.”

OPINION: Tom Brady needed the Bucs just as much as they needed him

MORE: Bucs defense overcomes three Tom Brady interceptions, helps seal trip to Super Bowl

The AFC championship, for much of the night, wasn’t close.

The same Chiefs team that had won its previous eight games by an average of four points fell into a 9-0 hole after second-year receiver Mecole Hardman muffed a punt halfway through the first quarter. Buffalo recovered at the 3-yard line and promptly scored a touchdown the following play. But by halftime, the deficit — and Hardman’s blunder — were mere memories. The Chiefs scored 21 unanswered points, Hardman pitching in to set up Kansas City’s first touchdown with a resounding 50-yard jet sweep.

Perhaps a four-play, 75-yard touchdown drive summed up the Chiefs’ day best. Mahomes was sacked for no loss, then nailed Hill on a slant route just as he gained the first down. Hill didn’t stop there. He zigged and zagged, breaking tackles and outracing defenders at a top speed of 20.76 miles per hour, per NextGen Stats.

By the time defenders at last managed to drag him out of bounds, Hill had moved the chains 71 yards to the 3. Three snaps later, Kelce would muscle a shovel pass from Mahomes for a 1-yard touchdown.

The Hill-Kelce duo overwhelmed Buffalo defenders, Hill scurrying for 172 yards on nine catches while Kelce had 118 yards and two touchdowns on a championship game-record 13 catches. The method – a low shovel, a high loft each to the end zone– mattered less than the player, Kelce seemingly unstoppable as the Chiefs posted their highest-scoring game in three months. A week after beating the Browns, Hill and Kelce became the first teammates in postseason history to post multiple 100-yard games each, according to CBS.

The Bills, in contrast, couldn’t find rhythm. Star receiver Stefon Diggs struggled mightily until it was too late. Allen’s arm was strong at times, inconsistent at others. The sturdy Bills quarterback took advantage of his scrambling acumen, taking off for 88 yards on seven plays. But the Bills couldn’t sustain drives, converting just 5 of 14 third-down conversions and settling for field goals twice in the red zone.

That might work against some, but not against Mahomes, whose Chiefs entered the red zone five times and exited with five touchdowns.

Mahomes, who said Friday he had no further concussion symptoms nor did doctors expect lingering issues, finished an efficient 29-of-38 for 325 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions.

“We’ve got the Lamar Hunt Trophy back in Kansas City and now we’ve got to go get the big one, baby,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “Let’s bring home the gold.”

Packers’ gaffe allows 39-yard TD for Bucs’ Scotty Miller with :01 before half

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have taken a four-point game and turned it into an 11-point game at halftime against the Green Bay Packers with quarterback Tom Brady airing it out to Scotty Miller for a stunning 39-yard touchdown to make it 21-10 Bucs.

Miller reached 20.6 miles per hour on the play as he outran Kevin King with 8 seconds left on the clock. Just one play before, the Bucs converted on fourth-and-4, on a short pass to Leonard Fournette.

In the first half, Brady completed 13 of 22 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns, with Fournette spinning his way to a third on the ground. Brady was particularly effective on the deep ball, going 2-of-2 on throws 30-plus yards downfield in the first half, tying his best for most such completions in a game all season. He was 0-of-2 on those throws in the Buccaneers’ first two playoff games combined, according to ESPN Statistics & Information.

There was plenty of swift reaction from social media on the Packers’ defensive lapse.

Meanwhile, on the Bucs’ first drive of the game, Brady connected with Mike Evans twice on the opening drive to give the Bucs an early 7-0 lead. Brady hit Evans for a 27-yard catch on a corner route working against Chandon Sullivan on third-and-4.

Evans then leaped up in the end zone working against Kevin King for a 15-yard touchdown grab.

A win today would send Brady to his 10th Super Bowl and the Bucs to their second.
