Shawn Mendes discusses Camila Cabello break up

The “It’ll Be Okay” singer took to Instagram to talk about his feelings following his change in relationship status.

Sitting at a piano reflecting on his music and lyrics, he explained, “You don’t realize when you’re like, breaking up with someone, you think it’s the right thing to do, you don’t realize all this s— that comes after it.”

He says in the aftermath of the breakup he was wondering who he could turn to.

“Like, who do I call when I’m like, in a panic attack? Who do I call when I’m like, f—ing, on the edge?” he said. “I think that’s the reality that kind of hit me – it’s like, ‘Oh, I’m on my own now.’ Now I feel like finally, like, I’m actually on my own, and I hate that. That’s my reality, you know?”

Cabello told Apple Music earlier this month that she still has love for Mendes.

“I love Shawn and I feel like there is literally nothing but love for him,” she said.

‘Vanderpump Rules’ stars Katie Maloney, Tom Schwartz break up

Bubba-bye.

“Vanderpump Rules” stars Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz have broken up after nearly 12 years together.

“Well this sucks,” Schwartz began in a lengthy statement posted on Instagram Tuesday night. “How am I supposed to capture 12 years of love in a f–kin canned Instagram caption. What picture am I supposed to use? Is there a go-to break up font?”

He continued that he wanted to clear up rumors going around.

“Katie & I are separating. I’m not quite ready to use the “D” word bc it’s too painful. Yes my heart aches but I’ll be ok. Not looking to evoke any sympathy here. I’m not the victim. Not gonna write too sad a song.”

He then revealed that she decided to leave him and the pair have had “healthy” and “productive” conversations about their relationship. He also added that it felt “tone def” to ask people to respect their privacy.

“So instead I’ll ask to please be kind,” he wrote. “I don’t fault you for any snap judgment. If I was watching us on VPR for the last 9 years I’d be making them too. Perception gets skewed bc of seeing [sic] snipets of our lives on the show, but I’m telling you we had some of the most blissful, romantic, fun times humanely possible over the course of our relationship. I’m talking heaven on earth level joy.

Schwartz announced the split on his Instagrams, adding photos of the pair in happier times at the end.
Tom Schwartz/Instagram

“She taught me so much about love & being a better partner.”

He said he doesn’t look at their marriage as a “failure” despite being sad, adding that there is “no anger or bitterness.”

“I don’t think we were ever a model couple. Maybe we are model divorcées. A dubious title I suppose,” he continued, ending his post saying that he’ll be fine.

“So I’ll shut up now and say it one last time, love you Bub. Always & forever you’ll be in my heart. On my ass? Maybe not so much.”

Maloney also took to Instagram to release a statement about their split on Tuesday evening.
Tom Schwartz/Instagram

He added several photos of the pair throughout their relationship together as well.

Maloney also announced the split on her Instagram with a much shorter note.

“After 12 years on an adventure through life together Tom and I are ending our marriage,” she wrote. “This ending is not met with resentment or animosity, no sides to choose. We have deep admiration for one another that will always remain and we cherish our friendship. Although we may be on different paths we will continue to love and support one another’s happiness.

“Thank you all for the kind words and support,” she ended, adding two photos of the couple together.

“Vanderpump Rules” fans have witnessed the now-estranged couple’s ups and downs over the years.
Bravo

The Bravo couple first sparked split rumors on March 10 when fans noticed that Maloney was not wearing her wedding ring during a girls’ night out with former co-star Stassi Schroeder.

“Left hand perfectly positioned to show us no ring,” one Instagram user commented at the time.

One month prior, however, Maloney, 35, and Schwartz, 39, appeared to still be on good terms, as he posted a selfie for Valentine’s Day with his gold wedding band clearly visible.

“It’s Friday, I’m in love,” he captioned the sweet selfie.

As documented on “Vanderpump Rules,” the pair faced many love hurdles throughout their long-term relationship — namely cheating, rage texts and explosive arguments.

Maloney and Schwartz had fewer disagreements during Season 9.
Bravo

However, during 2021’s Season 9, Maloney and Schwartz seemed to have put the drama behind them and were in a good place in their marriage.

And yet, they still had some hiccups, including arguing over Maloney’s involvement in Schwartz and co-star Tom Sandoval’s new business venture, a bar named Schwartz & Sandy’s.

Maloney ultimately ended up taking a step back and partnered with Sandoval’s girlfriend, Ariana Madix, to start a sandwich shop, Something About Her.

Maloney and Schwartz also documented their fertility journey as they struggled to get pregnant despite not using contraception.

Maloney told us in January that she and Schwartz had stopped actively trying to conceive.
Frazer Harrison

In January, Maloney told Page Six she and Schwartz were no longer “actively trying” to conceive.

“I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on myself, on my marriage, on [Schwartz], on anyone. I’m perfectly content with where I’m at,” she said at the time.

Maloney and Schwartz started dating in September 2010 and tied the knot in a woodsy ceremony in front of Bravo cameras in August 2016.

They later realized they were not legally married and jetted off to Las Vegas with close friends in July 2019 to make their union official.

West Point cadets overdose on fentanyl during Spring Break in South Florida, police say

Steve Gollan, battalion chief of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, told WTVJ on Friday that four of the people involved took a substance that appeared to be cocaine laced with fentanyl, and that two other people in the group were exposed to the opioid when they tried to administer CPR. The two people exposed to the fentanyl also went into cardiac arrest, Gollan said.

“Officers from the Wilton Manors Police Department took precautionary measures by evacuating and securing the residence due to the unidentified powdery substance,” police said in a news release. “The Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Hazmat Team responded to the scene, tested the material and discovered the substance was laced with the powerful and deadly synthetic opioid drug, Fentanyl.”

All six of the men were administered Narcan, an emergency medicine that restores breathing halted by overdoses of fentanyl, Gollan said.

Military Academy spokeswoman Beth R. Smith confirmed to The Washington Post that four cadets, including one football player, were taken to the hospital. A fifth cadet was not taken to the hospital, she said. One of the young men involved is not a cadet. None of the individuals involved have been publicly identified, and police have identified them only as “college students on Spring Break from the State of New York.”

“The U.S. Military Academy is aware of the situation involving West Point cadets that occurred Thurs. night in Wilton Manors, FL,” Smith said in a statement. “At this time, the incident is under investigation and no other details are available at this time.”

Gollan told local media Friday that two of the men were in critical condition and were intubated in intensive care units. He added that another was in stable condition and that three patients had been released from the hospital. Smith said she did not have updates on the conditions of those involved as of early Saturday.

The Wilton Manors Police Department announced late Friday that one person has been arrested by the city police and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in relation to the incident. They did not release any further details.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.

The news comes not long after the U.S. drug epidemic hit another terrible milestone. The government announced in November that more than 100,000 people had died of overdoses between April 2020 and April 2021, marking the first time that drug-related deaths have reached six figures in any 12-month period.

When it comes to fentanyl — the synthetic substance that has displaced heroin in many parts of the United States — data shows there are now more overdose deaths from the illegal synthetic opioid than there were overdose deaths from all drugs in 2016. There were more than 64,000 deaths linked to fentanyl by the end of April 2021, according to data.

As spring break gets underway in much of the country, authorities are warning young people of potential fentanyl exposure. Wilton Manors, located 10 minutes north of downtown Fort Lauderdale, is no exception. Gollan told the New York Times that his units have responded to 215 possible overdoses this year.

Wilton Manors police tweeted out a warning to all spring breakers about the dangers of fentanyl.

“This is extremely alarming to us, here we are in the first week of spring break and we have something like this taking place,” Gollan said to WTVJ. “Obviously if there’s a bad batch, it’s normally not isolated just to one buyer, it normally goes to everyone that purchased that same substance from whoever they got it from. It brings great concern that there could be other ODs over the next couple of days.”

Police said in a news release that they are committed to preventing fentanyl in Wilton Manors during spring break and long after college students leave Florida.

“This synthetic opioid continues to have detrimental impacts on many communities, and our agency remains committed to drug prevention and intervention initiatives,” police said. “Our agency also remains committed to investigating and prosecuting acts of illegal drug activity.”

6 West Point cadets overdose on fentanyl during spring break, police say

Authorities in Broward County, Florida, have made an arrest in connection to the overdoses, which happened Thursday in a vacation rental house in Wilton Manors, according to a news release from the Wilton Manors Police Department.

The Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the house around 5 p.m. Thursday and aided six male college students, who were feeling overdose symptoms and taken to hospitals. A woman was also hospitalized after feeling sick, police said.

A hazmat team tested the powdered material and found that it was laced with fentanyl, an opioid drug, according to the department.

The names of the patients have not been released, though police said the college students are from New York who were vacationing in Fort Lauderdale on spring break.

“This incident serves as a stark reminder to all, especially those visiting for Spring Break, of the deadly impacts of Fentanyl,” Wilton Manors police said in the news release.

Beth Smith, a spokesperson for the US Military Academy at West Point, acknowledged to CNN the college students were cadets and said the academy is investigating.

Local authorities are investigating the overdose incident, police said.

Fentanyl is a synthetic drug that can be up to 50 times stronger than heroin, up to 100 times stronger than morphine and commonly resembles prescription drugs, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is often added to other drugs by dealers “because of its extreme potency, which makes drugs cheaper, more powerful, more addictive, and more dangerous,” the CDC said.
On Friday, Wilton Manors police warned in a tweet about the dangers of fentanyl.

“WMPD wants to warn spring breakers about the dangers of using illicit drugs & to avoid mixing drugs with alcohol or other forms of drugs. Protect yourself from the dangers of Fentanyl,” police said.

Last year saw a record high of drug overdose deaths, with more than 100,000 people dying from April 2020 to April 2021, according to provisional data published in November by the CDC. It was a 28.5% spike compared to the same period a year earlier and nearly doubling over the past five years.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich gets 1,336th win to break Don Nelson’s all-time NBA record

Gregg Popovich became the all-time winningest head coach in the NBA with 1,336 victories.

Popovich surpassed Don Nelson, who previously held the record for most regular-season wins, with the San Antonio Spurs’ 104-102 victory over the visiting Utah Jazz on Friday night.

“It’s just a testament to a whole lot of people,” Popovich said. “Something like this does not belong to one individual. Basketball’s a team sport. You preach to your players that they have to do it together and that’s certainly been the case in my life with all the wonderful players and coaches, the staff that I’ve been blessed with, the support of this wonderful city. The fans support us no matter what.

“All of us share in this record. It’s not mine. It’s ours, here in the city.”

The Spurs released a video from Nelson after the game, congratulating Popovich — whom he called one of his best friends — and telling him how proud he is of his former assistant’s accomplishments “and all the wonderful things you’ve done for basketball, worldwide.”

“I’m so proud of you for doing it,” Nelson said. “I couldn’t wait for this day to happen. And I just want you to know as one of my best friends in life I just wish you the best for your remaining years in the NBA.”

Popovich, 73, is in his 26th season with the Spurs, the longest tenure of any head coach in all four of the U.S. major sports leagues.

“Gregg Popovich’s success with the Spurs is unprecedented in our league so it’s only fitting that he now holds the record for most career wins,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement.

“His leadership and unwavering commitment to the game are widely admired by generations of players and coaches alike. Congratulations to Coach Pop on this latest achievement in his legendary career.”

Following the game, Popovich was presented with the game ball by Spurs All-Star guard Dejounte Murray in a joyful locker room celebration.

“Coach Pop you deserve it and we all love you and we’re glad we’re here to be able to enjoy this moment with you,” Murray said in presenting Popovich the ball to commemorate the feat.

Murray earlier had said the Spurs did not discuss Popovich closing in on the record but added that the players were ready to celebrate the milestone.

“Pop doesn’t like praise,” Murray said. “He doesn’t like any of that. It’s kind of a good thing. But you also want to remind him of his success because it’s rare. Because he’s a guy that just wants to focus on winning and every day. He never brings up anything to praise himself.

“We don’t talk about [the record], but we damn sure going to enjoy it when we do get it for him because he’s a great man and he deserves it. He pushes all his players, whether you’re the first guy, last guy, G-League player, 10-day contract, he embraces you from day one. He deserves everything.”

Longtime Spurs point guard Tony Parker also offered early congratulations to his former coach.

“Very happy for Pop,” Parker told ESPN. “Very happy. That is a helluva achievement. Well-deserved. That shows his hard work ethic and longevity.”

Popovich, who was named among the NBA’s 15 greatest head coaches of all time in February, has won five championships and three Coach of the Year awards. He has a record 23 consecutive winning regular seasons and also had a streak of 22 straight playoff appearances.

After coaching at Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, California, Popovich joined Larry Brown’s Spurs staff in 1988. After four seasons with the Spurs, Popovich joined Nelson’s staff in Golden State in 1992 as an assistant.

“He’s just the greatest coach to ever lace them up,” Nelson told ESPN. “When I hired him as an assistant coach, I figured he could learn something from me. But I learned more from him than he learned from me, that’s for sure.”

He’s the fourth coach, going back to the end of the NBA’s first season, to stand atop the wins list. Red Auerbach held the mark for about a half-century, followed by Lenny Wilkens, followed by Nelson — and now, Popovich.

“The ironic thing about this is Nellie gave me a job when I didn’t have one back in ’92,” Popovich said. “He took me on. To be in this position, as the same breath as him, is in my opinion undeserving and quite awkward because he was so wonderful in saving my family’s ass. So, it’s ironic that I’m sitting here in this situation.”

Popovich was with Golden State for two seasons before returning to San Antonio as the general manager and vice president of basketball operations in 1994.

During the 1996-97 season, Popovich moved back to the bench, taking over as head coach, where he has remained ever since.

“It’s like a no-brainer,” said Milwaukee head coach Mike Budenholzer, who spent 17 seasons as a Spurs assistant coach. “If you want to do the top three or the Mount Rushmore [of coaches], I don’t think there’s any doubt where he is and where he belongs. The success, consistency and the longevity, and the impact he’s had on an entire organization, on individual players, on coaches, on GMs, on scouts, on equipment guys, on families. He’s been incredibly impactful in just so many ways that go way, way beyond the wins and the games and the championships and all those things.

“Just the consistency to have it, not now, but for 20 years to be a championships contender, playing for championships and playoffs, I just don’t think you will ever see that again from one organization, from one coach. That run, the [New England] Patriots kind of similar, I think that is the thing that I know I am probably the most in awe of.”

With the Spurs in a rebuilding phase, wins have been tougher to come by for Popovich this season. But those close to him point out that this is just another example of his greatness — his ability to adapt to the times, the changing game and talent and skills on his roster.

“I think he’s adjusted, he’s adapted,” Hall of Fame center David Robinson told ESPN. “He’s won under different circumstances with different mixtures of teams. We were a dominant defensive team, to [the teams] with Kawhi [Leonard] and all those guys, they were dominant offensively. They had a nice mix [on both sides]. And even now, you see how he’s had to adjust to a very, very different team.

“I think that’s what’s made him great. How do you win 67% of your games or whatever it is for 25 years? It’s ridiculous. It’s pretty amazing.”

Popovich has long had the respect from his players and his peers. Besides his coaching success, Popovich has always been vocal about what he believes in, taking stands for social justice and racial equality.

And while Popovich has now won more games than any other NBA coach, some of his players and staff members also remember how he did some of his best work after excruciating losses by keeping his team together.

After an overtime loss in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals, when the Spurs lost in part due to Ray Allen’s iconic 3-point shot, Popovich gathered his team for dinner in Miami and consoled each of his devastated players. The Heat beat the Spurs in seven games, but San Antonio bounced back to beat them in the Finals the next season.

“After losing Game 6 when it was almost the championship won, his phrase was [often], ‘Win it together. Lose it together. Man’s got to eat.’ So we ate together,” longtime Spurs forward Manu Ginobili told ESPN. “We talked and basically cried together, and we looked at each other and he went one table at a time with different players, had conversations and tried to cheer us up when we were devastated. That was another great example of leadership and trying to hold us together and optimistic about the next one or trying to find answers.”

ESPN’s Marc Spears, Dave McMenamin, Brian Windhorst, Baxter Holmes and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Grimes and Elon Musk break up again after welcoming second child

It’s tough keeping up with the Musks.

Hours after news broke that Grimes and Elon Musk secretly rekindled their romance and welcomed a second child via surrogate, the “Oblivion” singer revealed that she and the Tesla founder have split again.

“Me and E have broken up *again* since the writing of this article haha, but he’s my best friend and the love of my life, and my life and art are forever dedicated to The Mission now,” Grimes tweeted Thursday.

“I think Devin wrote that part of the story rly well. Sique – peace out.”

In her Vanity Fair cover story, Grimes said the surrogate gave birth to their daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, in December after she and Musk had gotten back together in some capacity.

“I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time. … We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it,” she explained to the publication.

“This is the best it’s ever been,” she said of their happiness. “We just need to be free.”

Despite being broken up, it appears Musk, 50, and Grimes, 33, still have plans to expand their family, as she said they’ve “always wanted at least three or four” children together.

The couple are already parents to son X Æ A-XII. Musk is also a father to twins Griffin and Xavier, 18, and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai, 16, from a previous marriage to author Justine Wilson.

They Want to Break T. Rex Into 3 Species. Paleontologists Aren’t Pleased.

They found some of the specimens difficult to classify. But 26 seemed to group into three types, Mr. Paul said: one robust form from early in the Hell Creek with two sets of incisors in its lower jaws, and a robust and gracile form from later with only one incisor set.

These three forms, Mr. Paul and his colleagues concluded, were probably different enough from one another — and appeared over a sufficient length of time — to warrant separate names. Therefore, the earliest, bulky Tyrannosaurus to show up in the Hell Creek received the name Tyrannosaurus imperator (“emperor tyrant lizard”), which then — over the course of one million to two million years — split into the robust Tyrannosaurus rex and the newly named, comparatively slender Tyrannosaurus regina (tyrant lizard queen).

That proposed evolutionary trajectory — from one tank-like population to another relatively lithe one — matches ecosystems earlier in the Cretaceous period that were dominated by Tyrannosaurus relatives, Mr. Paul said. In that period, bruisers like Daspletosaurus coexisted with long-legged hunters such as Gorgosaurus.

According to Dr. Holtz, such an idea is entirely plausible — but proving it will require support from future finds.

“It’s a testable hypothesis, as any statement of species identity should be,” Dr. Holtz said. “With additional new specimens, we can see if specimens they didn’t include or we haven’t found yet are consistent with this suggestion, or if they reject it.”

While Dr. Holtz felt the authors’ case would be more convincing if the different species they describe were organized more chronologically in specific rock layers, he noted that the Hell Creek Formation contains other examples of species divergence. Other fossils found there led to a general agreement that there was more than one species of triceratops, Dr. Holtz said. And there’s a possibility that the hadrosaurs and dome-headed Pachycephalosaurus found at the top of the formation differ significantly from those at the bottom.

“At the same time, in the same place, the same size classes of organisms are going through a succession of species,” Dr. Holtz said. “It’s not inconceivable that Tyrannosaurus did so as well.”

The Call of Duty series is reportedly taking a break in 2023

There has been a new mainline Call of Duty title every year since 2005, but that will apparently change next year. Activision Blizzard is delaying a Call of Duty title that had been scheduled to release in 2023, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

Activision is pushing the game, which Schreier says is being developed by Call of Duty: Black Ops maker Treyarch, after last year’s annual release, Call of Duty: Vanguard, didn’t meet expectations. That led executives to “suspect that it had been cannibalized by the previous year’s game,” Schreier reports. A recent SEC filing said that Vanguard failed to meet Activision’s fourth-quarter projections.

However, it seems that Activision will release other Call of Duty content. The 2022 title, which Activision has already announced will be a sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, will get “a steady stream of additional content,” Schreier says. There’s also a new free-to-play online game that will be available in 2023 as well, and it appears that will be in addition to the eventual release of Warzone 2, a game that Schreier mentioned in a tweet.

“We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year and beyond,” Activision spokesperson Neil Wood said in a statement. “Reports of anything otherwise are incorrect. We look forward to sharing more details when the time is right.”

Activision announced initial details about the Modern Warfare sequel and a “new Warzone experience” (which is perhaps the Warzone 2 Schreier mentioned) earlier in February, and both are scheduled to come out this year. While Activision said they will be “designed together from the ground-up,” it’s unclear if the new Warzone is a full sequel or a big update to the existing game. Both will be powered by a new engine.

Activision has been under significant scrutiny due to California’s lawsuit alleging it fostered a culture of “constant sexual harassment” and labor protests from staffers, including some who work on Call of Duty. Microsoft announced in January it had struck a deal to acquire the company for $68.7 billion, though the deal isn’t expected to close until sometime in Microsoft’s fiscal year 2023, which begins in July.

Update February 22nd, 7:40PM ET: Added statement from Activision.

Google and Mozilla are ready for Chrome and Firefox version 100 to break some websites

Chrome, Firefox, and Edge are about to hit version 100, in a triple release that could break some websites. The move to version 100 in the coming weeks could result in bugs or compatibility issues on some websites not ready to read triple-digit user-agent strings. Google, Mozilla, and Microsoft are busy trying preempt any big issues.

Mozilla, Google, and Microsoft have been warning about the upcoming version 100 release for months, which is about to drop in March for both Chrome and Edge, followed by Firefox in May. Mozilla and Google have both been running experiments to test websites and report breakages. There’s a running list of issues, which is fairly small right now, and Engadget notes that the notable sites affected include HBO Go, Bethesda, and Yahoo.

“When browsers first reached version 10 a little over 12 years ago, many issues were discovered with User-Agent parsing libraries as the major version number went from one digit to two,” explains a team of web developers in a Mozilla blog. Much like the infamous Y2K bug that made the year 2000 indistinguishable from 1900 for some computers, browsers have different formats for user-agent strings, and “it’s possible that some parsing libraries may have hard-coded assumptions or bugs that don’t take into account three-digit major version numbers.”

While there are concerns around some websites breaking, a lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes — much like what happened to avoid major headaches with the Y2K bug 22 years ago — to make the transition to version 100 go smoothly. Developers can enable a special flag in current versions of Chrome, Edge, and Firefox to make the browsers report as version 100 and aid in testing sites.

There are also plans in place if there are widespread issues. Mozilla says it will either hot fix broken websites or temporarily freeze Firefox’s major version at 99 if breakages are widespread and unmanageable. Google’s backup plan is to use a flag to freeze the major version at 99, and Microsoft hasn’t detailed a backup plan as far as we can tell.
