2023 NFL playoff schedule: Updated bracket, dates, times, TV channel, live stream for championship round

The NFL playoffs roll on to the title games after the defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals routed the Buffalo Bills on the road on Sunday and the San Francisco 49ers held off the Dallas Cowboys.

The divisional round of the 2023 NFL playoffs kicked off on Saturday as the Kansas City Chiefs and a hobbled Patrick Mahomes held on to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 27-20, and the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely destroyed the New York Giants, 38-7.

The Chiefs, the AFC’s top-seeded team each of the last four years, will now be playing in the AFC Championship Game for a record fifth straight year. On the NFC side, after their convincing win over their rivals, the top-seeded Eagles will be making their first appearance in the NFC title game since the 2017 season.

Two more teams look to punch their tickets into the conference championship today.

2023 NFL playoff schedule, updated bracket: Dates, times, TV, streaming for 49ers-Eagles and Bengals-Chiefs

The NFL season is officially down to its final four teams and we’re going to be seeing some very familiar faces.

For the second year in a row, the 49ers, Chiefs and Bengals are all in the conference title round. The only newcomer this year is the Philadelphia Eagles, who are playing in the NFC Championship for the first time since 2017.

The Eagles will be hosting a 49ers team that knocked off the Cowboys on Sunday continuing Dallas’ 27-year drought without a conference title game appearance.

This the Eagles-49ers game will be give us a matchup of two of the most successful NFC teams of the 21st century. Including this year, the Eagles have now made it to seven NFC title games, which is the most of any NFC team since 2000. The 49ers are tied for the second-most with six. Although they’ve both made multiple appearances in the NFC tile game over the past two decades, they’ve never played each other.

In the AFC, we’ll be getting a rare rematch. The Bengals-Chiefs game will mark just the third time over the past 35 years that the AFC Championship has been a rematch. The last time it happened came in 2011-12 (Ravens-Patriots), and before that, it hadn’t happened since 1986-87 (Browns-Broncos).

The AFC Championship is also a rematch of a game played back in Week 13, which was won by the Bengals, 27-24. Cincinnati has played the Chiefs three times since Jan. 1 2022 and the Bengals have won all three games.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the entire postseason schedule and bracket.

Super Wild Card Weekend

Saturday, Jan. 14

  • (2) 49ers 41-23 over (7) Seahawks. The 49ers got a brief scare from the Seahawks on a day where Seattle jumped put to a 17-16 halftime lead. But in the second half, San Francisco broke the game open with a dominating performance. Brock Purdy threw for 332 yards while also becoming the first rookie in NFL history to total four touchdowns in a playoff game. (Purdy finished with three passing touchdowns and one rushing score).
  • (4) Jaguars 31-30 over (5) Chargers. The Jaguars won this game by pulling off one of the biggest comebacks in NFL history. The Jags fell behind, 27-0, early in the game due in large part to four interceptions from Trevor Lawrence, but they rebounded to pull off the stunning win, thanks in large part to Lawrence, who threw four touchdown passes.

Sunday, Jan. 15

  • (2) Bills 34-31 over (7) Dolphins. The Dolphins went into this game as the biggest underdog in the history of the wild-card round (+14) and despite those odds, they were still able to put a major scare into the Bills. In the end, the Bills were able to stave off the upset thanks to Josh Allen (352 passing yards, three touchdowns) and a defense that came up with multiple big plays, including two turnovers, four sacks and a fourth-down stop that iced the game with just 2:30 left to play.
  • (6) Giants 31-24 over (3) Vikings. New York was able to pull off the upset in Minnesota thanks to a historical performance from Daniel Jones, who became the FIRST QB in NFL playoff history to throw for at least 300 and two touchdowns while also adding at least 70 yards on the ground. Not only did Jones throw for 301 yards, but he also the game’s leading rusher with 78 yards on 17 carries. The win over Minnesota marked the Giants’ first playoff victory since they beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI back in February 2012.
  • (3) Bengals 24-17 over (6) Ravens. The Ravens had Cincinnati on the ropes for most of this game, but the Bengals were able to escape with a win thanks to their defense, which came up with one of the biggest plays in NFL postseason history. With the Ravens at Cincinnati’s one-yard line, Tyler Huntley fumbled and Sam Hubbard returned that fumble 98 yards for what ended up being the game-winning touchdown.

Monday, Jan. 16

  • (5) Cowboys 31-14 over (4) Buccaneers. The Cowboys dominated this game from start to finish, and a big reason why that happened was because of Dak Prescott, who had a historically big night. The Cowboys QB set a franchise record with five total touchdowns (four pass, one rush) while also throwing for 305 yards. The only Cowboys player who struggled in this game was kicker Brett Maher, who missed an NFL-record four extra points. The Cowboys will now have to decide if they want to keep him around for Sunday’s game in San Francisco.

Divisional Round

Saturday, Jan. 21

  • (1) Chiefs 27-20 over (4) Jaguars. After leaving the game in the second quarter due to a serious ankle injury, Patrick Mahomes returned in the second half to lead the Chiefs to the win. Playing on one foot didn’t seem to slow him down as he completed 10 of 15 passes for 107 yards after suffering the injury. The Chiefs’ defense also came up with two key turnovers in the fourth quarter to help propel Kansas City to its fifth straight AFC title game.
  • (1) Eagles 38-7 over (6) Giants. The Eagles jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and then coasted to the win from there. The Eagles were able to pick up the dominating win thanks to a defense that racked up five sacks and a rushing attack that totaled 268 yards on the ground. Jalen Hurts also had a big night, and more importantly, his shoulder looked fully healthy as he totaled three touchdowns (two passing and one rushing).

Sunday, Jan. 22

  • (3) Bengals 27-10 over (2) Bills. The Bengals offense put up some big numbers, but it was the defense that stole the show in this game. The Bengals limited the Bills to just 10 points, which was Buffalo’s lowest total of the season. Cincinnati’s offense also came through with a big game that included 242 yards and two touchdowns from Joe Burrow along with 105 rushing yards from Joe Mixon.
  • (2) 49ers 19-12 over (5) Cowboys. The 49ers earned their second-straight trip to the NFC Championship by winning a defensive battle with the Cowboys. The 49ers picked off Dak Prescott twice and got six points off those turnovers, and that proved to be the difference in the game. Robbie Gould proved to be a huge weapon for the 49ers, scoring 13 of their 19 points with four field goals and an extra point.

Championship Sunday

Jan. 29

NFC Championship

  • (2) 49ers at (1) Eagles, 3 p.m. ET (Fox, stream on fuboTV). The NFC’s top-two seeds will be meeting in Philadelphia in what should be a showdown of epic proportions. The Eagles will be showing up with the NFL’s third-highest scoring offense from the 2022 season and the 49ers will be looking to slow it down with a defense that gave up the fewest points in the NFL.

AFC Championship

  • (3) Bengals vs. (1) Chiefs 6:30 p.m. ET (CBS, stream on Paramount+). The Chiefs will get another crack at taking down a Bengals team they just haven’t been able to beat. Since January 2022, the Chiefs have gone 0-3 against the Bengals, including a loss in last year’s AFC title game. This will game will mark the first rematch in the AFC Championship since the Ravens-Patriots in 2011 and 2012.

Super Bowl LVII

Feb. 12

AFC Champion vs. NFC Champion at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, 6:30 p.m. ET (Fox, stream on fuboTV)

2023 NFL playoffs bracket: Divisional round schedule, TV, odds as Cowboys and 49ers renew playoff rivalry

Super Wild Card Weekend was wild to say the least. Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers went on a 25-point run in the second half to defeat the rival Seattle Seahawks, and Trevor Lawrence threw four straight touchdowns after throwing four straight interceptions to complete the third-largest comeback in NFL history after being down 27-0 to the Los Angeles Chargers. Sunday was full of surprises as well.

Skylar Thompson and the Miami Dolphins gave the Buffalo Bills quite the scare, the New York Giants upset the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis behind a great performance from Daniel Jones and then the Cincinnati Bengals won a close game with the Baltimore Ravens.

On Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys destroyed Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, snapping an eight-game playoff road losing streak.

This upcoming week, the No. 1-seeded Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles enter the fray. Remember, first-round byes didn’t exactly help the No. 1 seed teams last year, as both the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers were upset in the second round of the playoffs. What will happen this year? Below we will break down the NFL divisional round schedule, kickoff times, spreads and more. We are one more round closer to Super Bowl LVII.

These two teams faced off in November, with the Chiefs defeating the Jaguars, 27-17. Jacksonville’s defense struggled to stop Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 331 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. That Jaguars defense has been playing some good ball as of late, however. They scored the game-winning touchdown against the Titans in Week 18 to earn a playoff berth, and then held the Chargers to just three points in the second half on Saturday night while they waited on the offense to shape up after a nightmare start.

It says something about the Jags that they were able to bounce back and complete the third-largest comeback in NFL postseason history, and Lawerence deserves a ton of credit. On his first seven drives, he completed 5 of 18 passes for 35 yards and four interceptions. On his last five drives, he completed 23 of 29 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns to pull out a 31-30 win.

Looking forward to this next weekend, the Jaguars offense can’t afford a slow start vs. what is statistically the top offense in the league. Hopefully, we are in for a shootout, with both offenses trading blows.

(3) Cincinnati Bengals at (2) Buffalo Bills

When: Sunday, 3 p.m. ET
TV: CBS | Stream: Paramount+
Line: Bills -5, O/U 50

It feels right we get this matchup. Bills vs. Bengals was set to be our Week 17 Monday night finale, but everything came to a screeching halt when Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. Thankfully, he has recovered, and both teams have been able to refocus on football. It looked like we were in for quite the shootout before that unfortunate event took place, and now, we get a rematch.

The Bills defeated the Dolphins on Super Wild Card Weekend, 34-31, but it didn’t feel like much of a victory. Despite playing a third-string rookie quarterback, Skylar Thompson and the Dolphins went on a 17-0 run in the second quarter to tie the game with 33 seconds remaining before halftime, and then the defense recovered a fumble for a touchdown early in the second half to acquire a 24-20 lead. While Buffalo eventually gutted out a win, the Bills were the biggest favorites in NFL wild-card round history. They didn’t exactly live up to expectations.

Josh Allen threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions and fumbled three times, losing one of them. Buffalo can’t lose the turnover battle against Cincinnati if it wants to advance to the AFC Championship Game.

Cincinnati didn’t put together an incredibly impressive performance on Super Wild Card Weekend either, as Joe Burrow and Co. downed the Ravens, 24-17. Tyler Huntley and J.K. Dobbins gave Cincy a run for its money, but a 98-yard fumble recovery touchdown from Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard early in the fourth quarter ended up being the game-winning touchdown.

Both teams will have to play better moving forward. I’m not sure how many people expected Miami to drop 31 points on Buffalo with a third-string quarterback, or the Ravens to record 364 yards of total offense with an injured backup quarterback.

(6) New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (1)

When: Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET
TV: Fox | Stream: FuboTV
Line: Eagles -7.5, O/U 47.5

Here’s a divisional matchup in the divisional round. The Eagles swept the season series with the Giants this year, blowing them out by 26 points in December, and then Davis Webb kept the rematch close in the regular-season finale, with the Giants ultimately losing, 22-16.

The Giants offense looked pretty awesome in their 31-24 win over the Vikings Sunday. Daniel Jones became the first player in NFL playoff history to record 300-plus passing yards, two passing touchdowns and 70-plus rushing yards in his first postseason start, while Isaiah Hodgins caught eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. Saquon Barkley wasn’t too shabby either, as he recorded 109 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns. Sunday marked the Giants’ first playoff win since Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots on Feb. 5, 2012.

While the Giants were able to take advantage of a bad defense in the first round of the playoffs, a much tougher challenge awaits them next weekend. The Eagles are the only team in the NFL to have a top three offense and top three defense, as they’ve looked like an elite team since the 2022 season began. Philly is going to be rocking as Jalen Hurts takes the field for his second career playoff start.

(5) Dallas Cowboys at (2) San Francisco 49ers

When: Sunday, 6:30 p.m. ET
TV: Fox | Stream: FuboTV
Line: 49ers -3.5, O/U 46

Fresh off snapping an eight-game playoff road losing streak, the Cowboys will look to carry the momentum from a blowout victory over the Bucs into Santa Clara as they take on the 49ers. The last time these two teams met came last postseason when San Francisco went into AT&T Stadium and pulled off the upset, sending Dallas home early on Super Wild Card Weekend.

As they look to avenge that loss from a year ago, Dak Prescott will have to take on arguably the best defense in the NFL in the Niners. That unit held the Seahawks to just six points in the second half of their playoff win on Saturday and also boasts an offense that has been sparked by rookie sensation Brock Purdy. Interestingly enough, both Purdy and Prescott threw for multiple touchdowns and rushed for a score in their playoff wins. There’s also no shortage of star power at the skill positions in this head-to-head with Christian McCaffrey, CeeDee Lamb, Deebo Samuel, and Tony Pollard.

2023 NFL Playoffs Schedule: Bracket, game dates, times and TV networks for Cowboys vs Bucs Wild Card, Divisional Round and more

For the first time since 1970, the NFL’s Wild Card Weekend features rematches in all six games. From Tom Brady and the Bucs renewing acquaintances in Tampa against Dak Prescott and the Cowboys to divisional rivals Cincinnati and Baltimore meeting in the Queen City, each of the six wild card match-ups are dripping with history and subsequent storylines, and the team at NBC Sports EDGE has you set for Wild Card Weekend picks and predictions heading into the upcoming action.

As sports bettors size up each game and look for advantages they can take to the betting window they need to recognize and eliminate meaningless stats. For example, a team’s record in the regular season has proven to matter not one bit in the opening round of the postseason. Over the course of the last 14 seasons, teams that one more regular season games are just 25-26 SU and 21-29-1 ATS with the teams sharing the same record on nine occasions.

RELATED: NFL Wild Card Weekend Schedule 2023

Most people agree coaches and quarterbacks matter. First-time playoff coaches have been far more successful than rookie signal callers. In the last four years, rookie head coaches have gone 8-3 SU and ATS (72.7%) when facing a more experienced coach. Since 2004, first-year quarterbacks in their first playoff game have fared poorly, going 17-40 SU and 17-39-1 ATS (30.4%) when facing an opposing signal caller with playoff experience.

Take and do what you will with those stats. Know that our NFL staff at NBC Sports have gone beyond those numbers to find their favorite plays for each game this weekend on everything from sides and totals to player props. The group includes Jay Croucher (@croucherJD), Vaughn Dalzell (@VMoneySports), and Lawrence Jackson (@LordDontLose). Tail (or fade) as you see fit.

Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers -9.5 (Over/Under 43)

Note: The 49ers rank 4th all-time with 32 playoff wins compiled over 27 years of playoff appearances – 26 in the NFL and one in the AAFC.

Croucher: DK Metcalf UNDER 61.5 Receiving Yards

Metcalf had 55 and 35 receiving yards in his two matchups against the Niners in the regular season. In the last game Metcalf was covered by Charvarius Ward, by far the Niners’ strongest corner. Expect Ward to get the Metcalf assignment again and the Seahawks to target Tyler Lockett more often, who will be covered by the weaker Deommodore Lenoir.

Dalzell: Seahawks +10

During the entirety of NFL history, only 14 times have teams defeated the same opponent three times in a single season. The 49ers will try to do just that versus the Seahawks here.

Seattle only managed 7 and 13 points in two meetings against San Francisco, but both situations were not ideal times to back the Seahawks. The Seahawks faced the 49ers in Week 2 fresh off a one-point win versus Russell Wilson and the Broncos on Monday Night Football. The second meeting came following a loss on a Sunday in Week 14 before playing the 49ers on Thursday Night Football (short week) in Week 15. The Seahawks will be better prepared this time around and rookie quarterbacks (e.g. Brock Purdy) often struggle in their first playoff starts as noted earlier.

Jackson: Kenneth Walker OVER 16.5 rushing attempts (-105)

Kenneth Walker’s 16.5 o/u (-105) on rushing attempts may be a trap, but I am taking the bait. He has averaged 26 carries in his last three games as the Seahawks have a made a concerted effort to run the ball taking some pressure off of Geno Smith. Interestingly enough, the last time Walker was under 16.5 carries (12) was against the 49ers in Week 15. The Seahawks are 9.5 points dogs, but even in a two-score loss against the Chiefs in Week 16, Walker had 26 carries.

Note: This is the only Wild Card matchup in 2023 between two 4,000-yard passers in Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert.

Croucher: Austin Ekeler OVER 36.5 Receiving Yards

No team allows more receiving yards to running backs than the Jags. The Jags rush defense has been excellent this season (6th best in Rush EPA allowed) and their pass defense has been dreadful. Expect the Chargers to target Ekeler in the passing game. In the first meeting between these two teams Ekeler was targeted 8 times for 48 receiving yards.

Dalzell: Justin Herbert OVER 37.5 Pass Attempts (-120)

Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert are both making their first career starts. I trust Herbert much more in this spot and given Herbert’s resume on NBC Sports Primetime games, I like the chances he lights it up in his first playoff game.

Herbert is second in the NFL with 4,739 yards and 279 or more yards in nine out of 17 games this season and 37 or more pass attempts in 11 games. I am expecting plenty of passes from Herbert, so back the Over on pass attempts at 37.5. I lean the Over 280.5 Passing Yards.

Jackson: Travis Etienne OVER 76.5 Rushing Yards (-110)

Etienne has averaged over 77 rushing yards over his last four games, including a 17-yard game against an elite Titans’ run defense. The Chargers have given up 100 or more rushing yards to three of the last four running backs they have faced. Zack Moss could not do it because Nick Foles was too busy giving the ball to the Chargers. You can run on this Chargers team until proven otherwise.

Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills -9.5 (Over/Under 46.5)

Note: Buffalo has won 10 of the last 11 meetings in Orchard Park against Miami. Watch this spread. If it gets to double digits, remember this: In the last 13 games featuring a spread of 10 or more points, the underdog has won outright just one time.

Croucher: James Cook OVER 36.5 Rushing Yards

Over the past two weeks the Buffalo running game has trended more to James Cook, with Cook out-carrying Devin Singletary. 36.5 is too low for a potential RB1 on a 13-point favorite.

Dalzell: Game Total UNDER 43.5 (-110)

Tua Tagovailoa is out for this matchup and now the spread moved from -9.5 to -13.5 in favor of Buffalo. With Skylar Thompson at quarterback, plus Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle dealing with injuries, I don’t see Miami scoring more than two touchdowns here, so I will take the Game Under.

Jackson: Josh Allen UNDER 33.5 Passing Attempts (-105)

In two games against the Dolphins this season, Josh Allen attempted 103 passes. With the Bills being 13.5 favorites, it doesn’t look likely he’ll need to do that again which is why I like him to go under 33.5 passing attempts. The Dolphins are ravaged with injuries, the biggest one being Tua Tagovailoa, who won’t be there to trade shots with Allen.

New York Giants @ Minnesota Vikings -3 (Over/Under 48.5)

Note: The Vikings led the NFL in 4th quarter scoring this season averaging 9.9 points in the final 15. The Giants ranked 5th with an average of 7.4 points in the 4th each week.

Croucher: Game Total UNDER 48.0

Star Vikings tackle Brian O’Neill is out, starting center Garrett Bradbury is banged up and the Vikings run game has been awful of late. The Giants defense is the healthiest its been all season, with Adoree Jackson trending in the right direction to return, and the defensive line suddenly a serious strength, with Kayvon Thibodeaux 100% integrated alongside Dexter Lawrence, Leonard Williams and a healthy Azeez Ojulari. Everything points to a lower scoring game than the previous match-up.

Dalzell: Minnesota Vikings -3 (-110)

This looks like one the most challenging games to cap on the slate, but considering the Giants are 2-5-1 on the ML in the last eight games and they clearly are not playing their best brand of football and are worth a fade.

New York is 1-4 on the ML in the last five road games, only beating Washington. As a favorite, Minnesota has gone 12-0 on the ML this season compared to 1-4 as an underdog. I will take the Vikings as a favorite and back the more dynamic offense at home in a dome.

Jackson: Daniel Jones OVER 241.5 Passing Yards (-120)

Daniel Jones’ passing yardage number is set at 241.5 (-120) and I’m looking for him to go over that. Sure, he’s thrown for less than 200 yards in three of his last four games, but you know which one of those games he went over that? Against the Vikings, where Jones threw for 334 yards. Furthermore the Vikings are giving up a whopping 29.6 points per game in their last five contests. While most are riding Danny Dimes’ rushing props, think differently.

Note: Joe Burrow is 19-4 ATS in his last 23 starts.

Croucher: Samaje Perine OVER 16.5 Rushing Yards

Perine has gone over this number in 7 of his past 8 games, albeit with Joe Mixon not present for 2 of those games. Perine squeaked over the line in both games against the Ravens (17 and 18 rushing yards). Cincinnati couldn’t run the ball at all against Baltimore last week (no run longer than 8 yards, 2.8 yards per carry overall), so look for them to potentially use Perine more than expected as a change of pace.

Dalzell: Game Total UNDER 41.5 (-110)

Lamar Jackson’s status in this game makes all the difference and if he is out, everyone will be on the Bengals, and rightfully so. Even if Jackson plays, there should be a significant rust factor for the quarterback who hasn’t played in over a month. Take the Bengals if Jackson is out, or take the Under if he is in.

Jackson: Ja’Marr Chase OVER 77.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Ja’Marr Chase simply balls out against the Ravens. I’m taking the over at 77.5 (-115) yards. Chase averages 115.5 receiving yards per game in his career against the Ravens. Even if you subtract his 201-yard outburst as a rookie, he still averages 87 yards in meetings against the Ravens.

Dallas Cowboys -2.5 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Over/Under 45.5)

  • Kickoff: January 16 at 8:15 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN)
  • Site: Raymond James Stadium – Tampa, FL
  • Dallas Playoff History: 35-29 (8 Super Bowl appearances – 5 wins)
  • Tampa Bay Playoff History: 11-10 (2 Super Bowl appearances – 2 wins)
  • Series History: Dallas and Tampa Bay have met 21 times including two playoff games. The Cowboys have won 15 of the 21 games including both playoff games. The Bucs, however, have defeated Dallas in their season opener each of the last two seasons.

Note: Buccaneers’ quarterback Tom Brady is a perfect 7-0 in his career against the Dallas Cowboys throwing for an average of 277.9 yards with 15 total TDs and 5 INTs.

Croucher: Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2.5

The Dallas pass defense has fallen apart. Over the past 5 weeks the Cowboys’ defense ranks 29th in dropback EPA. The Cowboys made Gardner Minshew look like Patrick Mahomes and then the following week Minshew could do less than nothing against the Saints through the air. Against the Panthers, the Bucs showed they still have the ceiling to exploit and dominate a struggling secondary. Combine the Dallas pass defense with Dak Prescott’s obsession with turnovers lately and how dreadful he looked against the Commanders, and it seems like the wrong team is favored in this game.

Dalzell: Buccaneers +3

Tom Brady and the Bucs get the best draw possible as they take on the Cowboys. Brady’s teams are 7-0 all-time versus Dallas, including a win in Week 1 this season. We have yet to see Tampa Bay peak or play its best ball this year, while Dallas is playing mediocre football right now. Their last three games include a loss to the Commanders last week, a narrow win over Philly and a backup quarterback in Week 16 and an OT loss against Jacksonville the week prior. Nothing would be surprising about the Bucs winning this game outright.

Jackson: Buccaneers ML (+120)

Tom Brady is in the playoffs and there is no one you trust more in the postseason, even at age 45. Taking the Buccaneers outright almost feels like a trap, but it is hard to ignore the Cowboys’ recent struggles. The Bucs’ offense has gotten back on track in recent weeks and they are healthier on both sides of the ball than they have been in weeks.
