Lacey Evans latest repackaging has begun

It’s been an… interesting… year for Lacey Evans.

Her return from more than a year off began with a series of videos chronicling the real-life hardships she’d faced getting to WWE. Those aired on SmackDown, but then she was moved to Raw. She didn’t work any televised matches on the red brand, and when she showed up live in the arena it was as a heel. Eventually, she was back on Friday nights en route to working July’s Money in the Bank.

Long-believed to be a favorite of now-former WWE head honcho Vince McMahon, she disappeared again after Triple H took over creative. Since then, she’s worked three television matches — two of which were multi-person #1 contender affairs where it seemed she was just there to fill out the line-up.

Then last night (Dec. 2) on SmackDown, we got this…

Jokes about how many times WWE’s changed their minds about Evans aside, this feels like they’ve finally landed on the right gimmick for her. As good as she was drawing heat as a “Sassy Southern Belle” (there was always debate about whether it was of the “go away” variety, but it got a reaction), it never really fit her actual backstory as a member of the United States Marine Corps. This seems to blend the arrogance of her best known character with a legitimate reason for Lacey to believe she’s better than her rivals.

It also recognizes that Evans’ on-screen history will make a face run a tough sell, regardless of how moving her actual story might be. Referring to the rest of the women’s roster as “the whiners, and the weak” is pretty clearly a line you put in a villain’s video package.

Unless they change their minds again as Lacey’s “Back To Basics” rollout continues…

A New Limited-Time Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Tera Raid Battle Has Begun

Update [Sat 3rd Dec, 2022 00:30 GMT]: This event is currently underway, so if you haven’t already joined in on the fun, do it while you still can. This Tera Raid Battle will run until the 4th of December and will take place again on 15th – 18th of December.

Original article [Thu 1st Dec, 2022 03:00 GMT]: Following the special “Eevee Spotlight”, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are now hosting their second Tera Raid Battle event. This time it features the mighty Charizard.

This first event runs from 1st – 4th December and will then run once again between 15th – 18th December. Charizard apparently isn’t native to the Paldea region, so this is a rare catch. This particular one comes equipped with Dragon as its Tera Type. Trainers can expect it to put up quite a fight in battle, with some “devastatingly powerful moves”. This Charizard will have the same mark, Ability, and moves regardless of when it is caught, and can only be caught once per save file.

It’s worth noting Tera Raid Battles at black crystals can only be challenged after completing certain postgame events. However, players who haven’t completed these events may still participate in these battles by joining another trainer’s battle (via multiplayer group or by using a link code).

The memeification of Aaron Rodgers’ struggles has officially begun | Aaron Rodgers

During Green Bay’s 15-9 loss to the (previously) one-win Detroit Lions on Sunday, the TV cameras happened to catch Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers angrily slamming down a phone on the sideline. This is not inherently interesting. Rodgers is far from being the only NFL player unable to hide frustration when playing badly. He’s not even the only future Hall of Fame quarterback to take his anger out on technology this season.

However, such is the nature of his season (which can pretty easily be described as his worst – more on that later), that this otherwise insignificant moment has already been turned into a meme. Sunday’s loss to lowly Detroit may represent a new rock bottom for the perennial contender Packers, but it wasn’t a surprise. Coming into Sunday’s game, the Packers had lost five of their last eight games, the worst start of the Rodgers era.

Before the season started, it wasn’t obvious that Rodgers was heading for his annus horribilis. Most pundits were high on him – after all, Rodgers had just won his second, consecutive MVP award – as well as the Packers, who were the sixth most-favoured team to win the Super Bowl. Despite such backing, however, there were areas of concern. Most glaringly, the Packers had traded All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams in the offseason, leaving Rodgers surrounded by mostly untested receivers.

With all of that in mind, it’s tempting to assume that the blame for the Packers’ poor performances falls on the shoulders of Rodgers’ inexperienced teammates – a dropped pass here, a poorly run route there. At some points in 2022, this has certainly been true. Against Detroit, however, there’s nobody to blame but Rodgers.

Detroit came into the game with the worst defense in the NFL, allowing opponents an average of 32.1 points per game (five points more than the second-worst defense in the league). Against such a normally porous defense, Rodgers threw a career-high three interceptions (all to rookies on the Detroit defense), including two in the end zone and one off the helmet of a member of the opposing team. These errors weren’t on the Packers receivers. Hence the 38-year-old taking out his frustration on a phone. Hence the online mockery.

Rodgers’ metamorphosis from man to meme is his own doing, at least partly. During his MVP run last year, much of the coverage of Rodgers focused on his extracurricular interests. Indeed, his fringe beliefs led to his being nicknamed ‘Q-Aaron.’

In 2022, Rodgers’ on-field play has begun to mirror his off-field pseudo-intellectuality – aimless and without merit. The Packers have lost five-straight and are now 3-6 – their worst start in the last 15 years – and are four wins behind the first-place Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North, a division they were expected to win with ease. Rodgers is the only person to start a game with two straight endzone interceptions in at least the last 20 years. Last month, Rodgers criticized his teammates, saying, “Guys who are making too many mistakes shouldn’t be playing.” Maybe it’s time he followed his own advice.

Joe Mixon, running back, Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals were up 35-0 at one point in their 42-21 win over the Carolina Panthers, revealing that the game was somehow even more of a blowout than the final score indicates. Perhaps surprisingly, the game’s hero was neither Joe Burrow nor Ja’Marr Chase. Instead, Mixon scored five touchdowns (four rushing and one receiving) in the game’s first three quarters, breaking the Bengals’ franchise single-game record for touchdowns by a single player.

178. That’s how many rushing yards Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields tallied in his team’s 35-32 loss to the Miami Dolphins. If that seems like an uncommonly high number for a quarterback, that’s because it is – Fields just set the regular season record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game, an accolade held for nearly 20 years by Michael Vick. Though Fields’ efforts were ultimately in vain, the Bears offense appears to be in the capable hands (or, feet?) of their steadily improving second-year quarterback.

Quote of the week

He’s the best in the league, baby. He’s the most accurate in the league – know that.” Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill on Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa.

Statistics support Hill’s high opinion of his quarterback. Tagovailoa already had the best passer rating in the NFL before Sunday’s game, and his performance in Miami’s 35-32 win over Chicago improved those already lofty numbers. He completed more than two-thirds of his pass attempts and, for the second week in a row, Tagovailoa threw for at least 300 yards and three touchdowns, while simultaneously avoiding any interceptions. Most impressively, Tagovailoa’s Dolphins remain undefeated this season when he plays a full game.

For the last three years, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan has maintained a second gig as the owner of All Elite Wrestling (AEW). In Sunday’s 27-20 loss to Khan’s Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Rock Ya-Sin appeared to be auditioning for a second career in the AEW.

In the second quarter of the Raiders’ 27-20 loss to the Jaguars, Las Vegas’ Rock Ya-Sin lifted Jacksonville’s Marvin Jones off his feet before flipping the wide receiver onto his helmet using what can only be described as suplex. Ya-Sin, who was a high school wrestler before a coach steered him toward football, has body slammed NFL opponents before. No penalty was called on the play, and Jones appeared to be uninjured, but in a league under scrutiny for its controversial concussion protocols, perhaps it’s time to reconsider the future legality of tackles like those made by Rock (or should we say “The Rock”) Ya-Sin.

Patrick Mahomes was in the thick of it on Sunday night. Photograph: Ed Zurga/AP

— The Tennessee Titans pushed the Kansas City Chiefs all the way to overtime on Sunday Night Football before Patrick Mahomes (of course) led his team to a 20-17 victory. With Ryan Tannehill absent due to an ankle injury, the Titans were reliant on the ever-excellent Derrick Henry, who rushed for 115 yards. The Chiefs weren’t quite as reliant on the rush – Mahomes threw the ball 68 times, just two attempts off the NFL single-game record. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 63 yards on the ground to go with his 446 yards through the air. They still look like one of the favorites for the Super Bowl.

— The Los Angeles Chargers looked like they would blow yet another game due to a late error when Austin Ekeler fumbled in the final minute with the score tied at 17-17.

Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Ta’Quon Graham duly picked up the ball and rumbled down the field seemingly to set up a game-winning field goal for the Falcons. But then the Falcons out-Chargered the Chargers as Graham inexplicably dropped the ball. The Chargers recovered and moments later Cameron Dicker kicked the game-winner. Although, it should be noted, the Falcons have previous experience of this type of thing.

— Tom Brady continued to add to his long list of career milestones. In his team’s much-needed win over the reigning champion Los Angeles Rams, Brady became the first player in history to pass for 100,000 yards in his career. Moreover, Brady showed his old cool with a last-minute touchdown drive that won the game and moved the Buccaneers to a (shared) lead of the NFC South. There may be another opportunity to witness Brady’s playoff magic again after all.

— The New York Jets are no joke. Currently second place in the NFL’s toughest division (every team in the AFC East is currently over .500), the Jets overcame dazzling runs from Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (and a bizarre delay owing to a malfunction with the above-field sky-cam) to eke out a 20-17 statement win against a Buffalo team who are a favorite to win the Super Bowl this year. Zach Wilson managed to stay interception-free and the Jets’ excellent defense did the rest, with cornerback Sauce Gardner – who picked off Allen and broke up a last-minute Hail Mary – once again staking his claim for defensive rookie of the year.

— Who had the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings leading their respective divisions at this stage of the season? Geno Smith and Kenneth Walker III were excellent again for the Seahawks, who moved to 6-3 after their 31-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, who must be at least thinking about moving on from Kliff Kingsbury. The Vikings, meanwhile, are a surprising 7-1 and firmly in control of the NFC North after their 20-17 win over the Washington Commanders. First-year head coach Kevin O’Connell is having a very impressive debut year in Minnesota, where he has been reunited with Kirk Cousins after their time in Washington together.

— Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson made both of his field goal attempts in the Raiders’ loss to Jacksonville to continue his league-best streak of 41 consecutive field goals made. Carlson is now just three field goals away from equalling all-time leading scorer Adam Vinatieri’s regular season record of 44. Meanwhile, Davante Adams isn’t having a much better time than Rodgers since leaving Green Bay. The Raiders blew a 17-point lead for the third time this season, and are now 2-6. “If we played for a shitty team, then it’s one thing. But that’s not what it is,” said Adams after the game.

Russia has notified the U.S. its annual nuclear exercise has begun, U.S. officials say

Russia has notified the U.S. that its annual nuclear exercise has begun and that it will include launches of nuclear capable missiles starting Wednesday, according to two U.S. officials.

The annual exercise has been described by U.S. officials as “routine” around this time of year but nevertheless will take place against heightened Russian rhetoric about using nuclear weapons in Ukraine

The Russian “Grom,” or Thunder nuclear exercise, typically involves large-scale maneuvers of strategic nuclear forces, including live missile launches, a senior military official said earlier this month. Officials have expected the annual exercise for several weeks but only recently received notification from Russia.

“Russia is complying with its arms control obligations and its transparency commitments to make those notifications,” Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder told reporters Tuesday, after confirming the U.S. has been notified of the annual exercise.

The Russian exercise coincides with the long-planned NATO nuclear exercise “Steadfast Noon.” This year’s NATO exercise, hosted by Belgium, takes place from Oct. 17 to Oct. 30 and involves 14 countries.

U.S. B-52 long-range bombers will participate, flying from Minot Air Base in North Dakota. The exercise also includes fourth and fifth generation fighter jets, but no live weapons will be used.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters earlier this month that the NATO exercise is meant to ensure NATO’s nuclear deterrence capabilities “remain safe, secure and effective.”

Stoltenberg said NATO will “monitor” the Russian exercise and “will remain vigilant not least in light of the veiled nuclear threats and the dangerous nuclear rhetoric we have seen from the Russian side.”

The last time Russia held a nuclear exercise was in February, just ahead of its invasion of Ukraine.

Jackson, Mississippi, water crisis: Repairs have begun at the water treatment plant but residents are still without clean water

“We made some positive gains within the system. We are encouraged,” Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said in a news conference Thursday.

City residents already had been told to boil their water since late July because of quality concerns, and the water system has been troubled for years.

The rental pump installed Wednesday at the treatment plant will help add 4 million more gallons of water a day into the system, authorities believe. The state also contracted with outside operators to begin work on critical emergency repairs.

But even as fixes are made, service has fluctuated. “There will be future interruptions … they are not avoidable at this point,” Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said during a Wednesday news conference, in which he also urged residents not to drink the water without boiling it.

The treatment plant sends treated water to above-ground tanks spread across the city, and those tanks — which send water to homes and businesses — are supposed to be full for optimal pressure, Reeves has said. Failure of the plant’s pumps led tank levels to drop.

More than half the tanks “have begun filling back up,” city officials said in a news release Thursday.

“We are hopeful that we will be able to increase the quantity of the water which will ultimately get the tanks more full and ultimately lead to a scenario in which we can do the proper testing and actually produce clean water,” the governor said Wednesday. “But we’re not there yet.”

The state Thursday opened seven new sites for distributing bottled water, which are in addition to distribution sites already established by the city, Reeves said.

The sites, staffed by the National Guard, include the state fairgrounds and Hinds Community College and for now, will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., he said.

Lumumba had said Wednesday he was optimistic that water service could be restored this week, but that “there is a huge mountain to climb in order to achieve that.”

Daily life upended in Jackson

While authorities rush to make repairs, get needed parts and deal with staffing shortages at Jackson’s water plants, the crisis is upending daily life.

Residents are seeing cloudy, discolored water coming out of their faucets and are being told it should be adequate for sanitation purposes. They can’t use the water to drink, cook or wash dishes, but they can shower and wash their hands in it, officials said.

“Please make sure in the shower that your mouth is not open,” Jim Craig, senior deputy and director of health protection at the Mississippi Department of Health, told residents Wednesday, adding pets should also not consume the water.

According to the mayor, it’s unknown when residents will no longer have to boil water, and that can’t be assessed until the water pressure returns to normal.

Residents have endured long lines to get bottled water and non-drinking water at distribution sites operated by the city. Some sites this week ran out of water and turned people away.

Jackson resident Anita Shaw, 63, arrived early Thursday at a site where the Salvation Army was to distribute bottled water — a site the group says ran out of 2,700 cases a day earlier before everyone in a long line could get one.

Shaw expressed frustration: Residents have been without clean water service for more than a month; not everyone can afford to keep buying bottles, and lines for free water are long. Water coming from her faucet Thursday was light brown, she told CNN.

She’s still had to pay her $100 water bill, she said.

“I paid $100 … and can’t use the water,” Shaw said. “What good is paying the water bill when you can’t use the water?”

All Jackson public schools shifted to virtual learning Tuesday. Jackson State University also shifted to online classes this week and set up portable showers and toilets across campus.

“It’s like we’re living in a nightmare right now,” sophomore Erin Washington told CNN. Another student described seeing brown, smelly water coming out of faucets on campus.

Businesses — many still trying to recover from Covid-19-related setbacks — are also struggling. Most affected is the city’s hospitality industry, said Jeff Rent, president and CEO at Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership.

“Hotels and restaurants, already on thin margins, either cannot open or they have to make special accommodations including the purchase of ice, water and soft drinks,” Rent said.

President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for Jackson, and Reeves said it will allow Mississippi to tap into critical resources to respond to the crisis.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell will head Friday to Jackson, CNN has learned.

Longer-term fixes are needed

Though Jackson has seen numerous water problems over the years, acute problems have cascaded since late July, when cloudy water was noticed at the city’s O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant. The state imposed a boil-water notice for Jackson, because the cloudiness carries higher chance that the water could contain disease-causing organisms.
Around the same time, the main pumps at O.B. Curtis — the city’s main treatment plant — were severely damaged, forcing the facility to operate on smaller backup pumps, Reeves said this week without elaborating on the damage. The city announced August 9 that the troubled pumps were being pulled offline.

City officials and Reeves’ office have not responded to CNN’s requests for details about the damage and the causes.

Last week, the governor was warned that Jackson would soon fail to produce running water, Reeves said.
Then, flooding: Heavy rains last week pushed the Pearl River to overflow and flood some Jackson streets, cresting Monday.

Intake water from a reservoir was impacted by the heavy rainfall, creating a chemical imbalance on the conventional treatment side of the plant, Craig said Wednesday. This affected particulate removal, causing that side of the plant to be temporarily shut down and resulting in a loss of water distribution pressure.

Even with the installation Wednesday of the temporary pump, substantial mechanical and electrical issues remain due to deferred maintenance, including various pumps and motors that must be replaced and sludge in basins that has accumulated to levels that are “not acceptable,” Craig said.

Staffing issues have further complicated matters, officials said.

Jackson’s water system also got walloped in February 2021, when a severe winter storm hit, freezing and bursting pipes and leaving many residents without water for a month.
That came after the city’s water system in early 2020 failed an Environmental Protection Agency inspection, which found the drinking water had the potential to be host to harmful bacteria or parasites.

In July 2021, the EPA and the city entered into an agreement to address “long-term challenges and make needed improvements to the drinking water system.” The EPA also recently announced $74.9 million in federal water and sewer infrastructure funds for Mississippi.

Advocates have previously pointed to systemic and environmental racism as among the causes of Jackson’s ongoing water issues and lack of resources to address them. About 82.5% of Jackson’s population identifies as Black or African American, according to census data, while the state’s legislature is majority White.

Asked Wednesday about claims that the deterioration of the water infrastructure in Jackson is a result of environmental racism, Reeves said the state does not run the water systems.

“In the state of Mississippi, we have a large number of municipalities that run their own water system. We have a large number of rural water associations that run their own water system. Prior to Monday of this week, the state of Mississippi runs exactly zero water systems,” he said.

CNN’s Amy Simonson, Melissa Alonso, Amara Walker, Isabel Rosales and Amir Vera contributed to this report.

Salman Rushdie: Author’s ‘road to recovery has begun,’ agent says, as stabbing suspect pleads not guilty

“He’s off the ventilator, so the road to recovery has begun,” Rushdie’s agent, Andrew Wylie, told CNN on Sunday. “It will be long — the injuries are severe. But his condition is headed in the right direction.”

“Though his life changing injuries are severe, his usual feisty & defiant sense of humor remains intact,” the statement said.

Rushdie was preparing to give a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution on Friday when a man jumped on stage and stabbed him in several places, including the neck and stomach.

Staff members and guests then rushed onto the stage and held down the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Hadi Matar, of Fairview, New Jersey, before a state trooper assigned to the event took him into custody, according to New York State Police.
The author’s injuries include three stab wounds to the right side of the front of his neck, four stab wounds to his stomach, puncture wounds to his right eye and chest, and a laceration on his right thigh, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt said Saturday during Matar’s arraignment. Wylie previously told the New York Times the attack left Rushdie with liver and nerve damage.

Rushdie was airlifted to a hospital following the attack and underwent surgery, police said. The author may end up losing his right eye, Schmidt said.

“We are so grateful to all the audience members who bravely leapt to his defense and administered first aid along with the police and doctors who have cared for him,” the statement said, “and for the outpouring of love and support from around the world.”

Another speaker at the event, 73-year-old Ralph Henry Reese, suffered a minor head injury during the attack. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance and later released with a facial injury.

In a tweet Sunday, Padma Lakshmi, the TV host and author’s former wife, said she was “relieved” Rushdie is “pulling through after Friday’s nightmare.”

“Worried and wordless, can finally exhale. Now hoping for swift healing,” she said.

The suspect has pleaded not guilty

Matar pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury with a deadly weapon, his public defender, Nathaniel Barone, told CNN on Saturday.

The attorney said Matar has been “very cooperative” and communicating openly, but he did not discuss what was said during those conversations.

Matar was refused bail and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail. His next court appearance is Friday.

He faces up to 32 years if convicted of both charges, Schmidt said.

The FBI is now working with local and international authorities to investigate the attack at the Chautauqua Institution, which happened in front of an audience as Rushdie was being introduced.

A witness, Joyce Lussier, was sitting in the second row when she saw a man leap across the stage and lunge at Rushdie. She heard people screaming and crying, she told CNN, and saw people from the audience rushing up to the stage.

Another witness, Stephen Davies, who captured video of the moments just after Rushdie was attacked, said he couldn’t tell if the attacker had a knife in his hand.

“He lunged onto Mr. Rushdie and started pummeling him with his hand, very quickly,” Davies said. “I was completely stunned and shocked.”

Authorities have not disclosed the specific type of weapon that was used in the attack.

The suspect had a pass to the event that now faces questions over its security procedures

The suspect arrived in Chautauqua at least a day before the event and bought a pass to the event two days prior, Schmidt said during Matar’s arraignment.

Matar traveled to Chautauqua by bus and had cash, pre-paid Visa cards and false identification with him, said Schmidt, who called the stabbing a “targeted, pre-planned, unprovoked attack on Mr. Rushdie.”

There were no security searches or metal detectors at the event, a person who witnessed the attack told CNN. The witness is not being identified because they expressed concerns for their personal safety.

The attack has raised questions about the security precautions at the host institution.

The institution’s leadership had rejected recommendations for basic security measures, including bag checks and metal detectors, fearing that would create a divide between speakers and the audience, according to two sources who spoke with CNN on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Institution President Michael Hill defended his organization’s security plans when asked during a news conference Friday whether there would be more precautions at future events.

“We assess for every event what we think the appropriate security level is, and this one was certainly one that we thought was important which is why we had a State Trooper and Sheriff presence there,” Hill said. “We will assess for each of the events at the Institution what we think the appropriate level of security is and that’s an ongoing process that we work in concert with local law enforcement on.”

Matar — who authorities say has no documented criminal history — was described as being a quiet person who mostly kept to himself. CNN exclusively spoke with State of Fitness Boxing Club owner Desmond Boyle, who said Matar enrolled at the gym in North Bergen, New Jersey in April.

“You know that look, that ‘it’s the worst day of your life’ look? He came in every day like that,” Boyle told CNN on Saturday.

As the investigation continued, police on Friday evening were seen at a New Jersey home believed to be connected to the suspect.

Rushdie had a bounty on his head

Rushdie’s writings have won him several literary prizes, but it was his fourth novel, “The Satanic Verses,” that drew the greatest scrutiny as some Muslims found the book to be sacrilegious. The book, which sparked demonstrations, was banned in multiple countries.

The late Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who described the book as an insult to Islam and Prophet Mohammed, issued a religious decree, or fatwa, calling for Rushdie’s death in 1989.

As a result, Rushdie began a decade under British protection.

The bounty against Rushdie has never been lifted, though in 1998 the Iranian government sought to distance itself from the fatwa by pledging not to seek to carry it out.

However, in 2017, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was asked if the “fatwa against Rushdie was still in effect,” and he confirmed it was, saying, “The decree is as Imam Khomeini issued.”

Scientists have begun major search for universal ‘dark matter’ in mile-deep abandoned gold mine

Scientists announced this week the launch of experiments in the deepest laboratory in the United States, investigations which experts hope will reveal answers to some of the most fundamental mysteries in the universe.

The research facilities at the Sanford Underground Research Facility are hoped in part to reveal the properties of what’s known as “dark matter,” a substance scientists cannot see but which equations indicate form a huge majority of the total matter in the universe.

The facility is located a mile underground in the former Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota. The depth of the facility was necessary in order to filter out electromagnetic background disturbance from the sun and other cosmic factors.

Authorities said on Thursday that the facility has actually been running experiments for two months so far, though at this point the device has found no evidence yet of the elusive dark matter.

Researchers said the project will likely take a considerable amount of time but that they are confident of ultimate success.

“You don’t go into rare search physics without some hope of finding something,” Kevin Lesko, a physicist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, told media this week.
