Travis Scott headlines first arena show since Astroworld deaths… as someone throws a heavy object

Travis Scott headlines first arena show in London almost one year after Astroworld deaths… as someone in the audience throws a heavy object at the Sicko Mode rapper

Travis Scott headlined his first arena show since the Astroworld tragedy last fall in London on Saturday.

The 31-year-old rapper took to the stage at The O2 to perform for a massive assortment of fans.

The show featured a scary moment for the performer when he was nearly hit by a sizable object thrown by someone in the crowd.

Travis wore a gray T-shirt with white and red designs on the front, as well as matching pants.

His hair fell in thick braids, and his eyes were covered with white shades that had just a slit across the eyes.

His first major show in many months got off to a rough start when a fan threw a heavy object at the nine-time Grammy nominee early on in his set.

The object made a loud crash behind him while he was rapping. He reportedly seemed annoyed and upset with the distraction but kept on rapping.

On top of that awkward moment, the star also revealed a new song for the audience.

Kylie Jenner’s baby daddy played the song God’s Country, a track scrapped from Kanye West’s hit 2021 album Donda.

Fans posted a number of videos on Twitter showing the star bouncing around while playing the unknown track.

TMZ reported that his daughter Stormi and lady love Kylie Jenner were also in the building for his big night.

Travis and Kylie were later spotted enjoying a night out at The Twenty Two in Mayfair. He wore a white leather jacket with black stripes running down his arms and red coloring the midsection. A thick gold chain hung down to his sternum.

Kylie wore a red and white crop top jacket and a frayed denim skirt. Her black hair was parted in the middle and fell down to the middle of her back. Sunglasses covered her eyes despite the late hour.

Scott’s concerts in London are just the latest events in his career comeback.

Comeback: Less than a year removed from the tragic Astroworld crowd crush that left 10 dead and hundreds more injured, Travis Scott has signed on for a Las Vegas residency; seen May 15

The rapper (born Jacques Bermon Webster II) announced his Road to Utopia residency at the Zouk Nightclub in Las Vegas’ Resorts World, via a press release, earlier in the week.

The show is billed as, ‘a mind-bending, first-of-its-kind nightclub residency experience,’ with tickets available for the first two shows — September 17 and October 15 — at ZoukGroupLV.com.

He also performed at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards in May, Rolling Loud in Miami last month, and was announced as a performer at the Primavera Sound festival in South America this coming November.

This comes after the November concert in Houston, Texas, which was marred by a crowd crush tragedy that left 10 people dead.

Travis Scott Hits O2 Arena for First Big Solo Show Since Astroworld

Travis Scott is back to headlining.

On Saturday night, the Grammy-nominated rapper took the stage at London’s O2 Arena for his first solo concert since last year’s Astroworld Festival. The two-night sold-out event kicked off around 9:30 p.m. local time with a stellar performance of “Hold That Heat.” Videos shared on social media showed Scott standing atop an elevated platform equipped with pyrotechnics. Of course, the audience were quick to match Scott’s energy, as they were seen jumping and cheering throughout the opener.

Scott went on to perform several more cuts before making his way off the platform. “Mamacita,” “God’s Country,” “Escape Plan,” and “Highest in the Room” were among the cuts that made the final setlist.

Scott will return to the stage Sunday night for his second O2 concert. His girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, and their four-year-old daughter, Stormi, are currently in London to support Scott during his big weekend. The rapper has landed a number of gigs over the last several months, including a performance at the Billboard Music Awards and a surprise appearance at Rolling Loud Miami; however, the O2 shows mark his first headlining concerts since the deadly events at his Astroworld Festival in November 2021.

The Houston rapper is now preparing to launch his Road to Utopia experience—a multi-date residency at Resorts World Las Vegas’ Zouk Nightclub. The experience begins Sept. 17, and will be followed by Scott’s much-anticipated Utopia album.

Nearly 5,000 people injured in Astroworld tragedy, new filing says

Nearly 5,000 people were injured in the tragedy at last year’s Astroworld festival, a new filing reveals.

A new court filing filed in Harris County, Texas on Monday (May 9) from three lawyers – Jason Itkin, Richard Mithoff and Sean Roberts – said that 4,900 people suffered injuries of differing extents, divided up into whether they needed “extensive” or “less extensive” medical treatment.

10 people died at Travis Scott’s Houston-based festival last November after a crowd surge, and the new filing, reported by Rolling Stone, includes 732 claims from attendees who required “extensive medical treatment,” 1,649 with “less extensive treatment,” and 2,540 cases where the extent is yet to be confirmed. The total of over 4,900 is by far the most injuries linked to the tragedy yet.

In January, a website was set up by the FBI in tandem with the Houston Police Department, asking people that attended the festival to submit photos and videos taken from the event.

The following month, it was then reported that hundreds of lawsuits against Scott and Live Nation related to the Astroworld tragedy would move forward as one case, combining over 380 separate filings that seek to represent nearly 2,800 alleged victims.

Last month, Scott released his first song since Astroworld – a collaboration between himself, Future and 808 Mafia producer Southside titled ‘Hold That Heat’. The rapper has been making a slow comeback since the tragedy took place – he reportedly performed a short set at a private pre-Oscars party, and a brief DJ set at a Coachella afterparty, before performing last weekend at a Miami nightclub.

The rapper also announced the launch of his multi-million dollar Project HEAL initiative, and said he would “always honour the victims of the Astroworld tragedy”. The rapper was, however, accused of violating a gag order by announcing the initiative. Scott is currently facing hundreds of combined lawsuits over the events that unfolded at Astroworld.

Travis Scott should be in jail: Astroworld documentary maker

Rapper Travis Scott belongs behind bars says the filmmaker of a new documentary about the Astroworld tragedy, “Concert Crush.”

“Travis Scott to me is a punk,” self-described  “victim-driven” documentary filmmaker Charlie Minn tells Page Six. “In my opinion, he is a criminal. Ten people died. How do we get around that?”

Four hundred lawsuits against Scott, Live Nation and others involved in Astroworld have been combined into one civil case representing nearly 2,800 victims. They have been accused of negligence.

Prior to the suits being combined, both Scott and Live Nation had denied allegations.

Scott’s November concert led to 10 deaths — with victims ranging in age from 9 to 27 —  and numerous injuries when the crowd surged.

“The reason he deserves criticism and jail time, he knew there was a problem,” Minn claims. “He acknowledged an ambulance in the crowd. He noticed people passed out and stopped the show on three occasions. I’m not saying he knew people were dead, but he knew there was a problem. An ambulance is not an ice cream truck.”

An ambulance made its way through the crowd during the concert.

The doc is playing in select theaters in Texas staring Friday for just one week. It is also available to stream online. It includes interviews with eight people who attended the concert and who give eyewitness accounts of what happened.

Minn says he is trying to give victims a voice and tells us he hopes, “every concert organizer and promoter uses Astroworld as a model what not to do.”

“I don’t want to see another person get hurt at a concert again,” he says. “Last time I checked you are supposed to go for fun and not to fight for your life.”

A spokesperson for Scott told Page Six, “Mr. Scott has not seen the movie. No one really has.” The rep also blasted the film as a “blatant piece of propaganda.”

A source close to Scott said, “This movie is not a serious investigative piece,” and called it “biased,” noting it was produced by a lawyer for the plaintiffs.

According to Billboard, attorneys for Live Nation have raised concerns to a judge about Minn’s film, which is being produced with a lawyer for the victims, Ricardo Ramos.

“The involvement of plaintiffs’ lawyers in the film, and the publicity the filmmakers and producers are trying to generate for it, raise significant issues about efforts to taint the jury pool,” lawyers wrote in a letter to the judge overseeing the festival lawsuit.

Minn tells us he was never contacted by Live Nation.

Scott has said he is “devastated” and “heartbroken” over the disaster. He told radio host Charlamagne Tha God that he did not hear screams.

In March, Scott launched Project HEAL, an initiative that aims to make events safer and protect youth.

Scott also previously told Charlamagne: “Anytime you can hear something like that, you want to stop the show, you want to make sure fans get the proper attention they need. And anytime I could see anything like that, I did. I stopped it like a couple times to just make sure everybody was OK.”

He continued that due to lighting, pyrotechnics and the show’s sound, it can be hard to tell what’s happening while performing. “You can only help what you can see and whatever you’re told, whenever they tell you to stop, you stop,” he said.

Minn says Scott is not the only one that should be held accountable.

“I want to make myself clear: I am not just blaming Travis Scott,” Minn tells us. “There is plenty of blame to go around… It’s almost the six months anniversary, and no one has been held accountable.”

Scott has been re-emerging into public life recently. He has a performance scheduled for May 7 at club E11even during the Formula One Grand Prix in Miami, and he’ll headline the Primavera Sound Festival in South America.

He has also played private events, including a Coachella bash — despite being cut from the official festival line-up — and a pre-Oscar party attended by the likes of Leo DiCaprio.

He also is featured on rapper Future’s track, “Hold That Heat,” which came out this weekend.

Travis Scott releases first new song since 10 people died from asphyxiation at Astroworld concert

Travis Scott released his new song Hold That Heat, his first single since the tragedy at his Astroworld concert last November.

The 30 year-old rapper, 30, collaborated with rapper Future and producer Southside.

The trio also released a new music video to go along with their new song.

Back at it: Travis Scott released his new song Hold That Heat, his first single since the tragedy at his Astroworld concert last November

In the video, Scott can first be seen hanging out in a hallway while holding on to a metal chain wrapped around an alligator’s neck.

He raps the same line repeatedly for the chorus, ‘Hold that, hold that heater.’ ‘Heater’ is a slang term for a gun.

Later on in the video, Scott sits on a couch near his collaborator Future and the two smoke marijuana together while Scott continues to rap.

One man later watches a woman, wearing mesh netting and pasties, as she performs a striptease.

The song is laden with references including one to his upcoming album, Utopia. He rapped, ‘Six months down out in Cabo,’ referencing a rumor that he’s been going back and forth from a studio in Mexico.

He also made a nod to his close friendship to NBA shooting guard James Harden with the line, ‘Took her to Brooklyn to meet with thirteen.’ Harden, who dated Khloé Kardashian for several months, wore uniform #13 on the Brooklyn Nets before he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this year.

While he made a number of references to drugs and alcohol in the rap, the star did not seem to mention Astroworld or his own reclusiveness in recent months.

On November 5, the goosebumps singer played a show in Houston that descended into chaos when the huge crowd began to push forward.

The resulting phenomenon, known as a crowd crush, led numerous people to try and escape from the crowd by climbing up sound equipment or shouting or help.

While this was happening, Scott continued to perform before eventually stopping the show and pointing out the chaos.

Though members of the crowd eventually received the help they needed, 10 people died because of injuries sustained during the tragic event.

Their names, according to CNN, were: Axel Acosta Avila, 21, Danish Baig, 27, Ezra Blount, 9, Madison Dubiski, 23, John Hilgert, 14, Jacob Jurinek, 20, Franco Patino, 21, Rodolfo Peña, 23, Brianna Rodriguez, 16, and Bharti Shahani, 22.

Eight of the 10 victims died on the night of the concert while Blount and Jurinek died in the days following the tragedy.

Scott offered to pay for the funeral arrangements for the victims though some of the families ultimately turned him down.

Ezra Blount’s family’s attorney Bob Hilliard turned down the offer in a letter to Scott’s attorney according to Rolling Stone and wrote, ‘I have no doubt Mr. Scott feels remorse. His journey ahead will be painful. He must face and hopefully see that he bears some of the responsibility for this tragedy.’

Scott is now facing a much larger lawsuit against him with 2,800 people as plantiffs. There were nearly 400 lawsuits pending in January that were combined into one large lawsuit to be put before a single judge.

The concert’s organizer Live Nation was also named in the suit which alleges negligence and mismanagement of the event.

The Texas Task Force on Concert Safety released a report earlier this week revealing the concert had permitting issues and a lack of security safety training, according to Billboard

While he’s disappeared from the public eye for the last few months, the Out West singer has also been dealing with big changes in his family.

He and his partner Kylie Jenner welcomed their second child, a boy, to the world back in February.

Though they originally named him Wolf, the couple later reconsidered the name and said they would change it though they haven’t shared a new one yet.

The couple also share a daughter, Stormi Webster, who was born February 1, 2018.

The “Goosebumps” artist faced major backlash after he continued to perform on stage despite fans begging him to stop after things got out of control.

Scott has since claimed that he “1,000 percent” did everything he could to help those that were dying and that he didn’t hear fans pleading with him to stop.

Astroworld has since been dubbed one of the deadliest live-music crowd events in the country. Scott, organizer Live Nation, streamer Apple Music, and special guest Drake are facing more than 140 lawsuits in addition to a mass litigation suit by 1,500 concert attendees.

Astroworld Relatives Blast Kanye West’s Demand Billie Eilish Apologize

The grandparents of Astroworld’s youngest victim didn’t hold back Thursday when asked what they thought of Kanye West threatening to pull out of Coachella unless Travis Scott got an “apology” from Billie Eilish.

“To hear Kanye’s words, that’s hurtful to us. What an idiotic thing to say,” grandfather Bernon Blount, whose 9-year-old grandson Ezra Blount died following the Astroworld crowd control disaster, tells Rolling Stone.

Tericia Blount, Ezra’s grandmother, said West should be praising Eilish, not lashing out at her after she stopped a concert in Atlanta on Saturday to help a fan who was struggling to breathe.

“I think it’s just crazy, and I hate to use that word, but I think it’s ridiculous,” Tericia Blount said of West’s treatment of Eilish. “She’s making sure that she is caring for the patrons at her concert, and I just think that’s crazy of Kanye to even let that demand come out of his mouth.”

West issued his ultimatum to the Happier Than Ever singer in an Instagram post earlier Thursday. He apparently considered it a diss on his fellow rapper and de facto family member Scott, the frontman of the Nov. 5 Astroworld tragedy, when Eilish briefly paused her Saturday show because she noticed the fan was in distress.

In videos of the concert shared on social media, Eilish is heard asking her team to fetch the fan an inhaler. She then waited to make sure the concertgoer was all right before resuming her set. “We’re taking care of our people. I’m waiting for people to be OK until I keep going,” she said from the stage.

“Come on Billie we love you please apologize to Trav and to the families of the people who lost their lives no one intended this to happen,” West wrote in his post. “Trav didn’t have any idea of what was happening when he was on stage and was very hurt by what happened.”

The Donda rapper, 44, then added, “And yes Trav will be with me at Coachella but now I need Billie to apologize before I perform.”

Eilish, 20, quickly commented on the post in her own defense. “Literally never said a thing about travis. was just helping a fan,” she wrote.

“That’s crazy that he wants someone to apologize for putting the welfare of someone else before their profits. That’s someone who needed their asthma pump. They could have lost their life, right then. This world is twisted, and we have to stop doing this,” Bernon Blount tells Rolling Stone.

“I totally commend Billie Eilish for having that decency about her,” Terecia Blount says. “I think what she did was wonderful, and I would love to tell her myself how brilliant and awesome she is for doing so.”
