Charlotte Hornets’ Miles Bridges charged with felony domestic violence; wife posts pictures of apparent injuries

Charlotte Hornets restricted free agent Miles Bridges has been charged with felony domestic violence stemming from an incident earlier this week, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Friday.

The LAPD posted on Twitter that Bridges was arrested for “intimate partner violence with injury,” a felony, on Wednesday following an incident two days earlier in West Los Angeles, and he was booked on a felony domestic violence warrant.

He was released on $130,000 bond and has a July 20 court date. The LAPD said it does not release police reports on domestic violence arrests.

Mychelle Johnson, the mother of Bridges’ two young children, posted several pictures on Instagram on Friday of what appeared to be injuries and a medical report that read “adult victim of physical abuse by male partner; Assault by strangulation, Brain concussion; Closed fracture of nasal bone; Contusion of rib; Multiple bruises; Strain of neck muscle.”

She did not mention Bridges by name, but wrote on Instagram: “I hate that it has come to this but I can’t be silent anymore. I’ve allowed someone to destroy my home, abuse me in every way possible and traumatize our kids for life. I have nothing to prove to the world, but I won’t allow anyone who could do something so horrible to have no remorse and paint a picture of something I’m not. I won’t allow the people around him to continue to silence me and continue to lie to protect this person.”

Bridges’ agent, Rich Paul, has not returned phone calls to The Associated Press and it was unclear whether he has an attorney. Attempts to reach Johnson also were unsuccessful and AP could not locate an attorney of record for her.

The 24-year-old Bridges is a restricted free agent who is expected to command big money in the free-agent market this summer following a breakout season.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Bridges was the Hornets’ leading scorer last season, averaging 20.2 points and seven rebounds in his fourth NBA season.

The Hornets extended Bridges a qualifying offer earlier this week, allowing them a chance to match any offer sheet made by another team. The team indicated earlier this week — prior to knowledge of Bridges’ arrest — that it wanted to re-sign him.

The Hornets released a statement on Thursday, indicating they are looking into the incident. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said “we are in the process of gathering more information.”

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Miles Bridges’ wife posts photos of her apparent injuries on social media after Charlotte Hornets forward is arrested in Los Angeles

Johnson described injuries she says she received to her nose, wrist, ear and neck “from being choked until I went to sleep and a severe concussion” in the Instagram post on Friday.

“I hate that it has come to this but I can’t be silent anymore. I’ve allowed someone to destroy my home, abuse me in every way possible and traumatize our kids for life,” she wrote in the post accompanying the images.

“I have nothing to prove to the world, but I won’t allow anyone who could do something so horrible to have no remorse and paint a picture of something I’m not. I won’t allow the people around him to continue to silence me and continue to lie to protect this person.”

One of the images uploaded to Instagram appears to be a discharge document from a hospital emergency department. It describes Johnson as an “adult victim of physical abuse by male partner” and “assault by strangulation.”

According to the document, her diagnosed injuries included a closed fracture of her nasal bone, a rib contusion, multiple bruises and a neck muscle strain.

In the Instagram post, Johnson also said she was “scared and hurting for my kids who were witness to everything.”

Johnson’s husband, the 24-year-old Bridges, was arrested and charged in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Bridges was “arrested for a felony violation of 273.5(a) Penal Code, Intimate Partner Violence with Injury” related to a June 27 incident, according to an updated news release issued Friday.

CNN has reached out to Bridges’ representation for comment but hasn’t received a response.

When asked about the images and allegations, NBA spokesman Mike Bass told CNN, “We are in the process of gathering more information.”

Bridges’ bail was set at about $130,000 and he has since been released, jail records show.

“The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges. We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time,” the team said in a statement earlier this week.

Bridges was drafted by the Hornets in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft out of Michigan State and is coming off his best year professionally. He was set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.

According to the jail record, Bridges’ next court date is scheduled for July 20.

CNN’s Homero De la Fuente contributed reporting.

Former NBA Player Andrew Bogut Slammed for Apparent Kendall Jenner Dig

Social media users are calling foul on Andrew Bogut‘s recent tweet about Kendall Jenner.

The retired basketball player appeared to take a dig at the supermodel following her split from Devin Booker.

“With the 2022 @NBA draft completion yesterday, one big name has yet to find a home. Which team will snap up @KendallJenner??” he tweeted on June 24. “Solid talent, versatile. ?? marks around team culture + habit of endless self promotion. Doctors will need to do medical as body has been banged up.”

Several social media users criticized Andrew for the comment. “This is an awful way to speak about a woman,” one Twitter user wrote. Added another, “Such a gross remark.” Tweeted a third, “This is disgusting come on.”

And while it initially looked like Andrew might apologize for the remark, he ended up just taking another shot.

“I would like to formally apologize for this tweet,” he wrote on June 28 while resharing his old post. “My scout take forgot to include the elite level of rebounding. I will do better in the future.”

‘ER’ actress Mary Mara dies after apparent drowning in St. Lawrence River in New York

Actress Mary Mara, best known for her roles on “ER,” “Nash Bridges” and “Ray Donovan,” died Sunday in what authorities are describing as an “apparent drowning” in a river in Upstate New York. She was 61.

The New York State Police responded to a call of a possible drowning in Cape Vincent on Sunday morning, authorities said in a news release. When first responders arrived at the St. Lawrence River, they discovered a dead woman later identified as Mara.

“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim drowned while swimming,” Major Michael S. TenEyck wrote. “The victim’s body showed no signs of foul play and was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy to determine an official cause of death.”

Craig Dorfman, her manager, confirmed Mara’s death to The Washington Post on Tuesday.

“Mary was one of the finest actresses I ever met,” Dorfman said. “She was electric, funny, and a true individual, and devoted to her family. Everyone loved her. She will be missed.”

A family spokesperson told Deadline that Mara was staying at the summer home of her sister, Martha Mara. The property is near the St. Lawrence River, which separates the United States and Canada.

Mara was a celebrated character actress with more than 80 screen credits to her name. She’s best known for her time in the ’90s as a recurring character on NBC’s hit show “ER,” playing patient Loretta Sweet, and her stretch as Inspector Bryn Carson, a main character on CBS’s “Nash Bridges.” She later played recurring characters in the Showtime shows “Dexter” and “Ray Donovan.”

Born on Sept. 21, 1960, in Syracuse, Mara studied at San Francisco State University and Yale before starting her acting career. Roger Mara, her brother, told the San Francisco Examiner in 1996 that they were both encouraged to pursue acting after seeing “their mother’s flair for the dramatic.”

Mary Mara’s first credited role was in the 1989 made-for-TV movie “The Preppie Murder,” according to her IMDb page. After appearing in the 1992 Billy Crystal film, “Mr. Saturday Night,” Mara broke through on “ER” at a time when the NBC show was the hottest prime-time medical drama on television. She appeared in nine episodes between 1995 and 1996, playing Sweet, a former prostitute diagnosed with cervical cancer.

The recurring spot on “ER” helped catapult Mara into a main cast role on “Nash Bridges,” appearing in 23 episodes in the first two seasons between 1996 and 1997. After appearing on such shows as “NYPD Blue,” “Ally McBeal” and “Law and Order,” Mara landed recurring roles as Valerie Hodges on “Dexter” in 2009 and Mrs. Sullivan on “Ray Donovan” in 2013.

She most recently appeared in the 2020 film “Break Even.”

Dorfman told The Post that the outpouring of grief he’s received since Sunday has been “extraordinary.” Some of the people who had worked with Mara over the years went on social media to remember a colleague described as the consummate professional.

Actor and director Jon Lindstrom recalled working with Mara during a theatrical run of “In Heat” in Los Angeles at a time when, he said, she had undergone chemotherapy for cancer.

“She was plowing through the aftereffects of Chemo,” Lindstrom wrote, saying Mara’s death left him “crushed.” “Brave, brilliant, Uber-talented. Earth will be much less-colorful without her.”

Screenwriter Bob Saenz posted a black-and-white photo of Mara, whom he said he worked with for “2 great years.”

“This the Mary I remember,” Saenz tweeted. “Consummate pro, funny, sharp, kind, a first class human being. She was kind enough to participate in a table read of one of my earliest scripts.”

He added, “RIP Mary. You’ll be missed.”

Mara is survived by stepdaughter Katie Mersola, sisters Martha Mara and Susan Dailey, brother-in-law Scott Dailey and nephew Christopher Dailey, according to Variety.

The investigation into Mara’s death is ongoing, police said.

Mona Lisa smeared with cake in apparent climate protest at the Louvre

The most famous smile in the world was briefly obscured Sunday when a man smeared some cream cake over the Mona Lisa, in what seems to have been a climate protest.

The 16th century masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci was untouched, however, as it is protected behind bulletproof glass in the Louvre museum in Paris.

Social media quickly lit up with videos posted by tourists who were in the gallery at the time.

Visitors posted that a man disguised himself as an elderly lady in a wheelchair, presumably in order to gain access to the spot right in front of the painting reserved for the handicapped. Then he stood up and smeared the cream cake over the glass case that protects the Renaissance painting.

As security guards pounced on him, the man, who was wearing a wig and makeup, threw red roses at their feet.

As they led him away, the man told the crowd, in French: “Think about the Earth. There are people who are destroying the Earth. Think about it … all artists, think about the Earth — this is why I did this. Think about the planet.”

The Louvre issued a statement Monday saying the painting had not suffered any damage. The museum said the man had hidden the cake inside his personal belongings.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said Monday that the 36-year-old man was detained following Sunday’s incident and sent to a police psychiatric unit for evaluation. An investigation has been opened on charges of damage of cultural artifacts.

Apparent Trailer Leaks to Social Media – The Hollywood Reporter

The first full trailer for the seventh installment in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise appears to have leaked to social media.

Twitter was abuzz on Saturday afternoon after the apparent — and previously unreleased — Mission: Impossible 7 — Dead Reckoning: Part 1 trailer began to spread. A trailer for the film was screened at CinemaCon last month.

Paramount Pictures does not appear to have officially released the two-minute spot online. Representatives for the studio did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.

The Hollywood Reporter is not including the apparent leaked footage in this article. Multiple tweets that contained the trailer have since had their video disabled, with a Twitter message citing “a report by the copyright owner.”

Cruise, whose Paramount film Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters May 27, appeared in a video message that played during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation on April 28. During the footage, he announced the full name of the seventh Mission: Impossible film.

The star, who plays Ethan Hunt in the franchise, explained that he couldn’t attend the Las Vegas event in person due to filming overseas. “Wish I could be there with you,” he said in the video while seated in an antique plane. “I’m sorry for the extra noise. As you can see, we are filming the latest installment of Mission: Impossible.”

Director Christopher McQuarrie’s latest film in the hugely popular action franchise is set for theatrical release on July 14, 2023. The following film in the series is expected to be released on June 28, 2024.

Videos Show Russian Troops Leading Ukrainians Before Apparent Execution: NYT

  • A photo taken in Bucha in April showed a group of Ukrainian men who appeared to have been executed.
  • A NYT investigation showed the men were in custody of Russian troops before apparently being killed.
  • A video showed the Ukrainian captives being marched in a single file and flanked by Russian troops.

Videos from Bucha, Ukraine, appeared to show a group of Ukrainian captives being led at gunpoint by Russian troops moments before they were executed.

The videos, obtained and verified by The New York Times, were taken on March 4 by a security camera and a civilian who witnessed the ordeal.

The security camera footage showed a group of nine Ukrainians hunched over, holding the pants of the person in front of them and some with their hands placed over their heads, crossing a street in a single file. Two Russian soldiers with guns can be seen at the front and back of the group, directing the line.

Eight witnesses told The Times the captives were then taken behind an office building, gunshots were heard, and the group did not reappear.

Additional drone footage obtained by The Times confirmed the witness accounts, showing the groups’ bodies beside an office building as Russian soldiers stood over them.

The videos were not independently verified by Insider.

The group of apparently executed men from the videos were also seen in a photo taken April 3. The Times said its investigation, published Thursday, uncovered the “clearest evidence yet” that Russian forces intentionally executed the group, “directly implicating these forces in a likely war crime.”

Reports of atrocities and executions poured out of Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, after Russian forces began retreating in late March. Stories and images from Bucha fueled international calls for a war crimes trial against Russia.

Russian officials have repeatedly dismissed reports of atrocities committed in Bucha, calling them “fake.”
