Brad Pitt recalls taking up sculpting following bitter split from Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt has recounted taking up sculpting in the aftermath of his contentious split from Angelina Jolie.

The actor, 58, who recently debuted his first-ever collection of sculpture at an art gallery in Finland, recalled bonding with artist Thomas Houseago back in 2016 over their ‘mutual misery’, several months after officially splitting from Angelina.

The duo were both grappling with heavy issues at the time, but Brad told the Financial Times their ‘mutual misery’ ultimately turned into a ‘flame of joy.’

‘Our mutual misery became comic,’ Pitt, who met Houseago at a New Year’s Eve party in 2016, told the publication. ‘And out of this misery came a flame of joy in my life. I always wanted to be a sculptor; I’d always wanted to try it.’

After their meeting, Pitt found himself hanging out at Houseago’s art studio, where he was able to explore his new passion for artwork.

Pitt has joined forces with singer Nick Cave and Houseago for their joint exhibition, WE, which debuted last month at the Sara Hilden Art Museum in Finland.

‘We were thrown together in trauma and catastrophe,’ Houseago told the site, referring to their shared past struggles. Both Houseago and Pitt have grappled with alcohol in the past, while Cave suffered from a heroin addiction in the 1980s and also lost two of his sons in the past decade. Pitt, of course, is also still in the throes of an ugly legal battle with ex Angelina.

Speaking to Finnish broadcaster Yle last month at the opening, Brad said: ‘For Nick and I this is a new world and our first entry. It just feels right.

‘To me it’s about self-reflection. It’s about where I have gotten it wrong in my relationships, where have I misstepped, where am I complicit.

‘For me, it was born out of ownership of what I call a radical inventory of self, getting really brutally honest with me and taking account of those I may have hurt, moments I have just gotten wrong.’

Pitt did not elaborate on who he ‘may have hurt’, but his most noteable past relationships were his marriages to Angelina and Jennifer Aniston.

The actor was married to Aniston from 2000 to 2005 and then entered into a relationship with Jolie the same year.

The original pieces included several under the umbrella title of ‘Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound to the House’ consisting of trapped bullets crystalized in platinum silicon.

Larger pieces included a coffin-sized bronzed box with hands, feet and faces breaking through in various angles, and a plaster wall sculpture called ‘Aiming At You I Saw Me But It Was Too Late This Time.’

One of the smaller pieces included a modest miniature house made from what appeared to be blocks of wood and tree bark.

The Oscar winner crafted several wooden ‘Candle Holders For Loved Ones’ which the artist described as ‘made in the time of Covid.’

No word on how much the various pieces are going for or if any has been sold.

The actor is scheduled to re-team with his Ocean’s 13 buddy George Clooney, 61 for the as yet Untitled George Clooney/Brad Pitt/Jon Watts project described on IMDB.com as a story of ‘two lone wolf fixers who are assigned to the same job.’

DeBranne, who is an artist herself, used spicier language to heap compliments on the Bullet Train star’s work in her Instagram stories.

Brad Pitt’s rep disputes details in Angelina Jolie’s latest allegations about 2016 airplane incident

A countersuit filed Tuesday by actress Angelina Jolie against her ex-husband Brad Pitt includes more information about an alleged physical altercation between the former couple that took place on a plane in 2016.

In a statement to CNN, a representative for Pitt called the latest allegations “completely untrue.”

Jolie and Pitt are battling over Jolie’s sale of her stake in their joint French winery, Chateau Miraval. Jolie sold her half of the winery in 2021 to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of Stoli Group, controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler.

Pitt sued Jolie in February, claiming that he and Jolie had an agreement that neither would sell without the other’s consent.

Jolie claims in her countersuit that there was never any such agreement and that she sold her portion of the winery in an effort to have “financial independence” from Pitt and to “have some form of peace and closure to this deeply painful and traumatic chapter of her and their children’s lives.”

In the court documents, obtained by CNN, Jolie also shares more details about an alleged incident on a private plane on September 14, 2016, five days before she filed for divorce.

In a section of Jolie’s counterclaim titled “Why Jolie separated from Pitt,” the document alleges that, before arriving to the airport, Pitt got into an argument with one of their six children, who at the time were between the ages of 8 and 15. The filing goes on to allege that on the plane Jolie asked Pitt “what was wrong?” and that Pitt went on to verbally attack her and then an hour and a half later “pulled” her into the bathroom, “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall.”

The claim also alleges, “Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face. Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying.”

In a statement provided to CNN on Tuesday, a representative for Pitt said: “(Jolie’s) story continues to evolve each time she tells it with new, unsubstantiated claims. Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn’t do. These new allegations are completely untrue.”

CNN previously reported some of these details from a heavily redacted FBI report in August.

Pitt was not arrested or charged in connection with the incident after the FBI completed an investigation in 2016.

“In response to allegations made following a flight within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States which landed in Los Angeles carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation. No charges have been filed in this matter,” FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said in a statement to CNN at the time.

“All parties have had this information for nearly six years and was used in previous legal proceedings. There is nothing new here and serves no purpose other than being a media stunt meant to inflict pain,” a source close to Pitt said of the August report.

CNN has reached out to representatives for Jolie regarding the most recent court filing, which states that during the plane incident, Pitt allegedly “lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow.”

The court documents also claim that the children “rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other” and that Jolie and the children “sat still and silent under blankets. Nobody dared to go to the bathroom.”

For this reason, the legal documents state, Jolie and her six children have not been able to return to Chateau Miraval due to the “pain Pitt inflicted on the family that day.”

Many of the details in Jolie’s countersuit echo those made in a countersuit filed last month by Nouvel LLC, Jolie’s former company.

In his earlier claim, Pitt had alleged that Jolie “did nothing to drive (the) growth” of the business, which he turned into a “multimillion dollar international success story.”

In its countersuit, Nouvel disputed this, saying “Pitt refused to grant Jolie or Nouvel equal access to Chateau Miraval’s records or an equal voice over management,” effectively “holding the most significant part of her net worth hostage.”

Jolie’s countersuit adds that “like other couples,” the two “divided their responsibilities and generally split costs.”

“Jolie made her career as an actor and director secondary to her primary responsibility of raising the children. She also oversaw the day-to-day running of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, to which she not only contributed substantial amounts of time but also substantial amounts of cash (over twice what Pitt contributed),” the document states. “Pitt continued with his Hollywood career and took primary responsibility for renovating the chateau.”

She also claims that she repeatedly tried to sell her stake in the winery to Pitt, as recently as last year and that Pitt was going to buy her portion for $54.5 million in February but that Pitt “demanded” she sign a broad non-disparagement clause “that would prohibit Jolie from discussing outside of court any of Pitt’s personal conduct toward her or the family,” inherently including the allegations of abuse from the 2016 incident.

Jolie claims that she refused to sign this clause and called it “an abusive and controlling deal-breaker.”

The counterclaim asks the court to declare Jolie’s sale of her stake final so that the actress can “move on from the winery and chateau.”

Angelina Jolie, son Knox hit Universal Studios amid FBI bombshell

Angelina Jolie enjoyed a Universal Studios day with her 14-year-old son, Knox, after news broke of her anonymous lawsuit against the FBI.

The actress, 47, paired a white dress with aviator sunglasses and sandals at the Los Angeles theme park.

The teenager, for his part, wore a graphic tee and pants during the Wizarding World of Harry Potter visit.

While the duo were joined by three bodyguards and a tour guide, Knox’s five siblings were absent from the outing.

Jolie is the mother of Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 16, and Vivienne, 14, whose custody she is currently fighting over with ex-husband Brad Pitt.

The former couple, who wed in 2014, broke up in September 2016 after an alleged altercation on their private jet.

The duo visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Jolie made headlines Tuesday when she was identified as the anonymous plaintiff in an April lawsuit against the FBI over their choice not to arrest Pitt, 58, over her assault claims.

When the lawsuit was initially filed, many speculated that Jolie was the plaintiff. While Page Six reached out to reps for the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” co-stars at the time, their spokespeople didn’t comment.

The intelligence agency’s report, which has been released, show that the assistant United States attorney and the assistant United States chief of the Criminal Division discussed the case in November 2017 but did not charge the actor.

In the report, which has been seen by Page Six, the “Maleficent” star described her “mad” then-husband — who she claimed had been drinking — allegedly “shaking” her, punching the ceiling of the plane and yelling at her for “f–king up” their family.

News broke earlier this week that Jolie anonymously sued the FBI over their investigation of Brad Pitt.

When one of their children, whose name was redacted, called Pritt a “p—k,” the “Fight Club” star reportedly ran toward them.

In her efforts to stop him, Jolie allegedly suffered injuries to her back and elbow, which she submitted photos of to the FBI.

The actor got in an altercation with Jolie during a 2016 flight with their six kids.

Jolie also alleged in the report that her then-partner poured beer on her as she tried to sleep during the flight from Nice, France.

The filmmaker subsequently filed for divorce from Pitt. Although they were declared legally single in April 2019, they are still fighting over assets and custody.

In 2017, the “Fury” star told GQ that he stopped drinking because it had “become a problem” for him.

“I had to step away,” Pitt said at the time, noting that he had “feeling in [his] fingertips again.”

Brad Pitt sues Angelina Jolie over French estate Château Miraval

Brad Pitt is suing ex-wife Angelina Jolie, accusing her of illegally selling off her share of their French estate, Château Miraval.

Pitt alleges they had agreed that neither would sell their share of the Château — where they married in 2014 — and its profitable vineyard without agreement from the other party.

But the “Fight Club” star claims in the suit that while the vineyard became “Pitt’s passion,” Jolie brazenly sold off her share to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler without his permission.

The court documents, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, state, “Jolie consummated the purported sale without Pitt’s knowledge, denying Pitt the consent right she owed him and the right of first refusal her business entity owed his.

“She sold her interest with the knowledge and intention that Shefler and his affiliates would seek to control the business to which Pitt had devoted himself and to undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval.”

The vineyard property is worth $164 million.

The Miraval estate is located in the village of Correns in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in southeastern France. The 35-room mansion is surrounded by lush gardens with a moat, fountains, aqueducts, a pond, a chapel, and a vineyard that Pitt says he has invested a large amount of money in.

Jolie, 46, and Pitt, 58, bought the estate in 2008 for $28.4 million, with the intent to bring up their children there and build a family wine business. The couple tied the knot there in 2014, splitting in 2019.

And while their messy divorce has been finalized, the couple is still embroiled in court battles over child custody and their considerable assets.

Pitt developed the vineyard at Miraval into a multimillion-dollar business and one of the world’s top producers of rosé wine.

But the court papers state that, by 2013, “Jolie stopped contributing altogether” for the renovations, while Pitt “continued to invest millions of dollars … [funding] roughly 70 percent of the couple’s investment in Miraval.”

In January 2021, “Jolie informed Pitt in writing that she had reached a ‘painful decision, with a heavy heart,’” the suit alleges.

“Jolie explained she had purchased Miraval with Pitt ‘as a family business’ and as the place she believed they ‘would grow old’ together,” the suit continues.

“Nevertheless,” Jolie continued, she could “no longer maintain any ownership position in an alcohol-based business given her personal objections.” Pitt began negotiations to buy out Jolie’s share.

Then, in October 2021, the wine division of the Stoli Group, Tenute del Mondo, announced it purchased Jolie’s 50 percent stake in the estate and the wines it produces. The business is controlled by Russian businessman Shefler.

The sale was a surprise to Pitt, who now claims he is deprived of using the Château as his private home and can no longer oversee the company that he helped to create and invested millions of dollars into.

The suit adds, “Jolie seeks to recover unearned windfall profits for herself while inflicting gratuitous harm on Pitt. Jolie long ago stopped contributing to Miraval — while Pitt poured money and sweat equity into the wine business. Jolie seeks to seize profits she has not earned and returns on an investment she did not make.”

Plus, “The purported sale deprives Pitt of his right to enjoy his private home and to oversee the business he developed from scratch.”

And while Pitt’s investment and work to develop Miraval wine now means the property is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, “Miraval’s success and associated rise in value allowed Jolie an opportunity to capitalize on Pitt’s success and cash out, without ever having lifted a finger to grow the enterprise.”

A source familiar with the situation added, “Unfortunately, this is another example of the same person disregarding her legal and ethical obligations.

“In doing so, she has violated the rights of the only person who poured money and sweat equity into the success of the business by purporting to sell both the business and family home to a third-party competitor.

“She is seeking a return on an investment she did not make and profits she did not earn.”

Lawyers and a rep for Jolie were not immediately available for comment.

She finalized her divorce from actor and filmmaker Billy Bob Thornton in 2003.

But Angelina Jolie still has a warm relationship with her stepson Harry James Thornton all these years after ending her marriage.

Harry revealed Wednesday in an interview with ET that the 46-year-old Academy Award winner still chats with him on the phone occasionally and even sends him Christmas presents every year.

Billy Bob shares Harry with former Playboy model Pietra Dawn Cherniak, whom he was married to from 1993 until their divorce in 1997 amid her claims that he had abused her in front of their children.

Thornton and Jolie first starred together in 1999’s Pushing Tin before their whirlwind courtship. After only two months together, the couple wed in 2000.

Harry gushed that ‘she was so cool’ to him and his siblings.

Still close: ‘To this day, she still sends me Christmas gifts every year and stuff like that,’ Harry said. ‘I don’t talk to her on the phone every day but every now and then we talk’

‘She took us camping every week and she rented, like, an RV one time, and we went on a full camping trip,’ he recounted.

‘She was just so fun for us back when we were, like, younger. Like, she was a lot of fun.’

In addition to Harry, 27, Thornton also shares William Thornton, 28, with Cherniak. The Sling Blade star, who has been married six times, shares his daughter Amanda Brumfield with his first wife, Melissa Lee Gatlin, and he shares daughter Bella Thornton, 17, with his current wife Connie Angland.

Prior to starting his relationship with Jolie, Thornton had been engaged to Laura Dern, whom he dated for two years.

Late in their relationship, Jolie adopted her son Maddox from Cambodia on her own, and she separated from Thornton three months later in 2002.

In a 2004 profile for Vogue, the Changeling star described how her marriage fizzled out, seemingly ‘overnight.’

‘It took me by surprise, too, because overnight, we totally changed. I think one day we had just nothing in common,’ she explained. ‘And it’s scary but … I think it can happen when you get involved and you don’t know yourself yet.’

Angelina Jolie was spotted stocking up on groceries at a Bristol Farms in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

The 46-year-old Academy Award-winner was joined on the errand run by her youngest daughter Vivienne, 13, who helped her carry bags out of the store.

Jolie looked ultra chic in an oversized black coat styled with a pair of black skinny jeans.

The Maleficent actress slipped her feet into a pair of black leather booties and toted her belongings in a purse resting in the crook of her arm.

Meanwhile, Vivienne looked comfortable in a white crewneck sweatshirt, shorts, and a pair of slip on Nike sneakers.

The mother-daughter duo carried several reusable bags filled with grocery items, while also carrying a pack of canned sparkling water.

The Eternals star has been doing so in partnership with the Maddox Jolie Program which is overseen by her eldest son Maddox.

On Sunday the red carpet fixture shared a post to Instagram that detailed her recent work adding that she ‘loves’ to see young women excel.

The 57-year-old Hollywood star has partnered up with record producer Damien Quintard on the renovation project, and it sounds like the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star could break out into music.

Angelina Jolie avoided answering a question about the nature of her relationship with The Weeknd while promoting her latest movie, “Eternals.”

While appearing on E!’s “Daily Pop” with co-star Salma Hayek on Monday, host Justin Sylvester asked Jolie if her children are more excited about her Marvel film or her friendship with the “Secrets” crooner.

“They’re very excited about this film, if that’s what you’re asking,” a smiling Jolie said, glancing at her co-star Salma.

“They’re very excited about this film,” she repeated.

The “Maleficent” star, 46, and The Weeknd, 31, have been spotted out on multiple dinner dates in Los Angeles in recent months, sparking rumors that the pair are romantically involved.

The Maleficent star, 46, was radiant in coffee-colored pleated silk with a high collar as she wrapped her arms around her eldest daughter, 16, and Gorman, 23, one of the evening’s honorees.

The American poet joined Katy Perry, Lorde, Channing Dungey, and Rita Moreno as they were recognized at the event for their philanthropic work.
