Patriots vs. Titans score: Live updates, results, highlights, game stats, TV, streaming for key AFC game

The New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans have two quarters of their Week 12 matchup in the books. As they look for their sixth-straight victory, Bill Belichick’s team was able to strike first with a Mac Jones touchdown pass to Kendrick Bourne on the club’s first possession of the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Titans had some early struggles that dug them into a hole. Penalties by Tennessee gave New England a short field on their lone touchdown drive of the half and kicker Randy Bullock has already missed a PAT and a 44-yard field goal. However, they were able to cut down a double-digit lead thanks to a 68-yard touchdown run by Dontrell Hilliard just before the break.

Will New England hang on to extend its winning streak or will the Titans mount a comeback? We’re about to find out. As the game continues to unfold, be sure to hang out in our live blog of this matchup. Below, you’ll find instant analysis as the action develops in real-time and also all the big highlights from this game.

Week 12 AFC playoff picture: Here come the Patriots

Getty Images

Eleven weeks of the 2021 NFL season are in the books and the playoff picture is starting to come into focus with Thanksgiving a few days away

The Titans remain on top of the conference, but a Week 11 loss to the Texans has dropped them closer to the competition and they could be off their perch entirely come Sunday night. They’ll face the Patriots, who have won five straight games to move to the top of the AFC East and position themselves as a possible top seed in the entire conference if they can keep that hot streak going.

With 12 AFC teams at .500 or above, there’s a lot of other things going on in the playoff chase and here’s how everyone stacks up heading into Week 12:

1. Titans (8-3) Sunday’s loss ended a six-game winning streak, but their sweep of the Colts keeps them comfortably ahead in the AFC South heading into that big matchup with the Patriots.

2. Ravens (7-3) The next three games on the schedule are all divisional games, so the Ravens will be hoping to have Lamar Jackson back at 100 percent to continue their push for the AFC North title.

3. Patriots (7-4) The Patriots are surging at a moment when the Bills are flailing, which could mean that their absence from the top of the AFC East was only a one-year change.

4. Chiefs (7-4) Two straight wins makes it feel like they’ve righted the ship and they’ll have a bye week to rest up for the stretch run.

5. Bengals (6-4) The Bengals snapped a two-game losing streak in Las Vegas and they can deal the Steelers a blow this week.

6. Chargers (6-4) Outlasting the Steelers on Sunday night was a good thing and rolling up 533 yards in the process gives hope that the Chargers have more big wins in their future.

7. Bills (6-4) Sunday’s loss to the Colts knocked them out of first place in the AFC East and was ugly enough to create doubt that they’ll stay in the playoff mix when all is said and done.

8. Steelers (5-4-1) They played better against the Chargers than they did in a Week 10 tie with the Lions, but a loss is still a loss and the Steelers can’t afford too many more of them.

9. Colts (6-5) Jonathan Taylor‘s huge day in Buffalo moved the Colts to 6-2 in their last eight games and they’ll try to continue the surge in Tampa this week.

10. Browns (6-5) Their win over the Lions felt like a loss, but no one will be complaining if they win ugly in Baltimore this week.

11. Raiders (5-5) Sunday’s loss was their third straight and it’s starting to feel a lot like the last two seasons for the Raiders.

12. Broncos (5-5) Denver has the Chargers and the Chiefs the next two weeks, so they could be out of realistic playoff hopes by Week 14.

13. Dolphins (4-7) Three straight wins is reason for some happiness in Miami, but they probably stacked up too many losses to overcome.

14. Texans (2-8) Sunday’s matchup with the Jets has major draft implications.

15. Jaguars (2-8) Urban Meyer said Trevor Lawrence played one of his best games in a blowout loss to the 49ers and player development is all that’s left for the Jags this year.

16. Jets (2-8) The continued struggles of the Seahawks, who traded their 2022 first-round pick for Jamal Adams, are a silver lining to another losing season.

Raiders vs. Bengals score: Live updates, game stats, results, highlights, TV, NFL live stream for AFC clash

The Cincinnati Bengals overcame a horrendous start to take a 10-6 lead over the Las Vegas Raiders at halftime.

Cincy’s first drive ended in disaster after Joe Burrow was strip-sacked by Yannick Ngakoue, but the Bengals’ defense clamped down inside the red zone and held Vegas to a field goal. They then did the same on a later Raiders drive into Bengals territory. The Bengals’ offensive line could barely hold up long enough to give Burrow time to throw the ball down the field, but Raiders penalties repeatedly gave Cincinnati the opportunity to get free first downs — including two on the drive that gave Cincinnati its lead. The drive ended in a Joe Mixon touchdown run that was aided by a terrific block from backup receiver Stanley Morgan Jr.

Can the Bengals close things out on the road, or will the Raiders stage a comeback in the second half? Keep it locked to our live blog throughout the rest of the game as we update you with stats, scores, and highlights.

Colts, Carson Wentz get big win on road over 49ers, add to AFC traffic jam

Carson Wentz battled through ugly weather and a couple of bad plays to help the Indianapolis Colts defeat the San Francisco 49ers on the road and in the middle of a bomb cyclone, 30-18.

Wentz threw the game-sealing touchdown pass to Michael Pittman Jr. after 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw his second interception of the night to kill any chance of San Francisco tying the game.

Wentz finished 17-for-26 with 150 passing yards, two touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown. He an ugly play that was later ruled a fumble but recovered nicely to get the win. Jonathan Taylor led the team with 107 yards on ground and a touchdown. Mo-Alie-Cox had the other score.

Garoppolo didn’t look as great. He was 16-for-27 with 181 yards, a touchdown pass and two picks. He targeted Deebo Samuel 11 times during the game as George Kittle is still out with an injury. Samuel had seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. Elijah Mitchell led the way on the ground for San Francisco. He had similar numbers to Taylor with 107 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown.

TITANS HAVE LOOK OF AFC CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER NOW

The Colts got a big defensive effort. Kenny Moore II and Darius Leonard had seven tackles each. Xavier Rhodes and Khari Willis had an interception each while Anthony Chesley and Kwity Payne had fumble recovers. The defense is going to be key down the stretch.

With the win, Indianapolis moves to 3-4 on the season and is put right in the middle of the traffic jam in the AFC playoff picture.

The Colts are two games behind the Tennessee Titans for the AFC South lead. The Titans are looking like one of the best teams in the AFC East and catching them may be impossible unless they pick up a win against them next week.

There are six teams in the AFC who are either 4-3, 3-3- or 3-4. The Colts, New England Patriots (3-4), Cleveland Browns (4-3), Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3), Kansas City Chiefs (3-4) and Denver Broncos (3-4) are all in that group. Out of those teams, the Browns would be in the playoffs if the season ended Sunday.

The next few weeks will separate the contenders from the pretenders and building off a road victory against a team who made the Super Bowl two years ago is huge for morale.

AFC East rival defender vouches for former teammate Tua Tagovailoa

Some things run deeper than NFL divisional rivalries — even between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets. The Jets and Dolphins usually go together like cats and dogs; even amid the downturn of both franchises over the course of the past decade. But when asked about his former teammate Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins on ‘The Zach Gelb Show’ last week, Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams offered his quarterback plenty of love nonetheless.

“I think (Tagovailoa will) be an amazing quarterback, man. He’s an amazing leader. Great arm, great player, great leader, just a great teammate in general, man, and I just think, just like me, some guys need more time than other guys to become that player that everybody know they can be in the NFL,” said Williams.

“He probably struggled a little bit his first year, man, but I’m pretty sure he’s not going to struggle his second year just due to the learning and experience that he had getting a chance to be on the field his first year, and the things he did wrong his first year he won’t let hisself do wrong again his second year. It’s just how we built at Alabama.”

Williams and Tagovailoa overlapped for the 2017 & 2018 seasons in Tuscaloosa and won a National Championship together in early 2018 after defeating the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff. So Williams has seen the best Tagovailoa can offer. And, to be fair, the Dolphins saw the best that Williams can offer with his play in 2020 against Miami. Williams was an absolute terror in both games against the Dolphins, winning gaps up front with quickness and power alike. Williams tagged the Dolphins for 1.5 sacks in their second matchup of the season, a 20-3 Dolphins victory with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm amid a thumb injury to Tagovailoa.

The next time the two teams cross paths figures to be the first time Williams and Tagovailoa will line up as starters against one another in the NFL — and here’s hoping Tagovailoa can prove his former college teammate right to help Miami stay comfortably ahead of the New York Jets in the standings.

AFC East Rumors: Watson,

Add veteran NFL reporter Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com to the list of writers who have heard that Texans QB Deshaun Watson is not budging on his desire to be traded, and that he continues to ignore every call from Houston brass. Of course, Watson has a no-trade clause that he could use to help dictate where he goes — assuming the Texans give in and deal him, which they have insisted they are not going to do — and we recently heard that the 49ers and Broncos are on his destination list.

Dunne’s source indicates that the Dolphins — who have been considered one of the frontrunners for Watson since trade speculation started to swirl — and the Niners are Watson’s top two preferred clubs. In Dunne’s view, a trade to Miami makes too much sense to not happen, and he believes the ‘Fins and Texans could line up on a deal that sends Watson to South Beach in exchange for the No. 3 and No. 18 overall picks in this year’s draft along with Miami’s 2022 first-rounder.

Now for more rumors from the AFC East:

  • Recent reports have indicated that Raiders QB Marcus Mariota is generating legitimate trade interest, and Mike Reiss of ESPN.com believes the Patriots could be in the mix. New England obviously needs a quarterback, and Mariota is attached to a reasonable $10.6MM salary for 2021 and would not cost much to acquire in terms of draft capital. Although he could demand a raise if he is being acquired to serve as a starter, his current salary would not preclude the team from continuing to explore other options, like Jimmy Garoppolo — if the the 49ers land a different QB and release Garoppolo — or a collegiate passer.
  • Reiss does not expect the Patriots to make a deal with the division-rival Jets for Gang Green QB Sam Darnold, though what the Jets do with Darnold could certainly have a major impact on New England (for instance, if New York trades Darnold to San Francisco, Garoppolo could become available).
  • The Jets have among the most cap space in the league at just shy of $70MM, and they can easily create even more flexibility, thereby giving them a huge advantage in what could be a buyer’s market given the decreased salary cap. Connor Hughes of The Athletic believes New York will release DE Henry Anderson, which jibes with a report from December. That move will save the club $8.2MM in cap space, and Hughes suggests that guards Greg Van Roten and Alex Lewis might be goners as well (their releases would save $3.4MM and $5.1MM, respectively).
  • Meanwhile the Jets don’t have too many of their own free agents that must be retained. Hughes expects safety Marcus Maye to be re-signed, and he also says OL Pat Elflein — who played well in 2020 after being claimed off waivers from the Vikings — is a logical candidate to return, especially if the team moves on from Van Roten and/or Lewis.
  • Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News does not foresee the Bills laying out major free agent dollars this offseason. Instead, he expects the club to use the majority of its cash on an extension for QB Josh Allen, which means that the Bills will likely allow LB Matt Milano to test the open market — contrary to GM Brandon Beane‘s assertion that a franchise tag could be in play — and will not be in the running for a top pass rusher like Shaquil Barrett or Bud Dupree.

And this one won’t go over well with Jets fans hoping for a deal with the Houston Texans.

SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano reports that “according to a source who has spoken with people close to Watson, the 25-year-old quarterback doesn’t have the Jets at the top of his wish list.”

On top of that, NFL scout Matt Miller says “No disrespect to other reporters, but I’ve been told the Jets are NOT his preferred destination should a trade take place. His no-trade clause makes this very important.”

But there a silver lining here. Even though the Jets are not atop Watson’s trade wish list, New York is one of the teams to which he would accept a deal. Vacchiano reports “the Jets are one of them, the source said, because of Watson’s affection for new Jets coach Robert Saleh. But the Dolphins might be just as attractive, if not more, because of Watson’s respect for Dolphins coach Brian Flores, their young core of talent, and the fact that there’s no state income tax in Florida.”

Watson, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is disgruntled after being frozen out on Houston’s decision-making process when the Texans hired general manager Nick Caserio and head coach David Culley.
