Edmond City Council votes to allow face covering ordinance to expire

The Edmond City Council has allowed the face-covering ordinance within city limits to expire.The ordinance that required all people 11 and older to wear a face-covering in indoor public spaces will no longer be in effect as of midnight Tuesday, March 23. Although the ordinance will expire, city officials said in a news release that all residents are still highly encouraged to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that include washing hands, social distancing and mask-wearing.Businesses and establishments are not required to post a mask policy for their location, according to a news release. If a business or establishment does post that they require masks in their facility, however, city officials said all residents are asked to comply.The Edmond City Council also voted to extend the current emergency declaration related to the COVID-19 pandemic through April 27. The extended declaration of emergency removes several previous requirements and aligns closely with Gov.
