Jay Leno Marvels at How Fast and Comfortable the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Is

You will eventually be able to choose between multiple trim levels and powertrain ratings for the Lucid Air, but the one that’s making noise right now is the Dream Edition variant, available in either Range or Performance specification. The difference between them is obvious, one is quicker, and the other’s battery lasts longer.

The Dream Edition Performance can deliver a total of 1,111 hp (1,126 ps), with up to 471 miles (758 km) of range, getting you from zero to 60 mph (97 kph) in just 2.5 seconds. Meanwhile, the Range version is good for 933 hp (946 ps) with up to 520 miles (837 km) of range, hitting 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. Both models produce a maximum torque output of 1,025 lb-ft (1,390 Nm).

If you think about it, there’s not that big of a difference between them. You’re basically trading 0.2 seconds (0-60 time) for an extra 50 miles (80 km) of range. Fair trade, from a practical standpoint. Keep in mind, you will have to opt for the 19-inch wheels as opposed to 21-inch wheels if you want to extract maximum range from either specification.

One automotive enthusiast who is clearly appreciative of everything the Lucid Air is capable of is none other than former Tonight Show host, Jay Leno, a man who really knows his cars and has come to embrace the EV revolution, so to speak.

Leno drove the Lucid Air Dream Edition and found it quite thrilling, from straight line performance to overall maneuverability and handling. He was also impressed by how much leg room there is – more than in a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class, according to Lucid Motor design VP, Derek Jenkins.

One misconception about the Lucid Air is that it is a very large automobile, when in fact, it’s more midsize, but features a generous wheelbase and very clever packaging underneath. Technically, you could call it a Mercedes EQE rival with Tesla Model S Plaid-rivaling power.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer says a PlayStation version of Xbox Game Pass is ‘inevitable’

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, says it is “an inevitability” that PlayStation will produce its own version of Xbox Game Pass.

Speaking to IGN, and responding to recent rumors surrounding the future of PlayStation Plus, Spencer says Game Pass-style services meet many player interests and provide a freedom of choice that isn’t given elsewhere. He expects Sony will try to emulate the success of Xbox’s approach with a similar service of its own.

“I don’t mean it to sound like we’ve got it all figured out, but I think the right answer is allowing your customers to play the games they wanna play, where they wanna play them, and giving them choice about how they build their library, and being transparent with them about what our plans are in terms of our PC initiatives and our cross-gen initiatives and other things,” he says.

“So when I hear others doing things like Game Pass or coming to PC, it makes sense to me because I think that’s the right answer.”

He adds that the industry’s move to subscription-based services was always going to happen. Now, the question becomes who can innovate or improve upon that system best in the future.

“When I’m talking to our teams, I talk about it as an inevitability,” Spencer says.

“So for us, we should continue to innovate, continue to compete, because the things that we’re doing might be advantages that we have in the market today, but they’re just based on us going first, not that we’ve created something that no one else can go create.”

“Because I think the right answer is to ship great games, ship them on PC, ship them on console, ship them on cloud, make them available day 1 in the subscription. And I expect that’s what our competitor will do.”

Analysis: the game streaming wars are coming

Xbox Game Pass has been one of Microsoft’s most warmly received gaming projects of the last few years. Praised by players for providing access to a huge library of games at a low cost, it’s also been continually touted as a success by Xbox heavyweights, including Spencer.

PlayStation’s interest in emulating that success with its own subscription service – rumored to be codenamed Spartacus – was first revealed last year in a Bloomberg report, but it was little surprise to many. A subscription service that embeds you within a console’s ecosystem, while encouraging you to stick with it by constantly handing you more games to dig into, has proved as enticing for players as it has the console manufacturers.

As Spencer alludes to here, the bigger question remains how, exactly, PlayStation will implement the service, and what additional features it will provide over Xbox Game Pass. According to the Bloomberg report, one of its key features will be providing access to older PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles.

It’s looking likely that we’ll find out more details in the near future. The appearance of PS3 games on the PS5’s store earlier this week alongside the recent removal of PlayStation Now subscription cards from UK and US retail stores last week suggests changes to the service are incoming. That change could well be the big one: the announcement that PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus are being combined into Spartacus.

God of War Has Passed Horizon Zero Dawn and Is Now Sony’s Biggest PC Launch

God of War on PC is off to a strong start and has passed Horizon Zero Dawn to become Sony’s biggest launch on the platform with an all-time peak of 73,529 players so far,

The stats were revealed by SteamDB, a site that tracks Steam’s data, and it revealed God of War reached that number on January 15 – one day after the once-PlayStation exclusive arrived on PC.

Furthermore, God of War was the best-selling game for the past week that ended on January 16, and it held off Monster Hunter Rise, Ready or Not, Elden Ring (pre-order), and more.

Prior to God of War’s arrival on PC, Horizon Zero Dawn had the highest all-time peak for a Sony first-party game at 56,557 players. Days Gone, Sony’s second first-party release on PC, topped out at 27,450 players.

Sony’s focus on putting some of its biggest exclusives on PC appears to be working out in its favor, and God of War director Cory Barlog revealed that PlayStation’s own studios were key in convincing Sony that it was a “really good idea” to make this happen.

Barlog and Santa Monica Studio lead UX designer Mila Pavlin also shared how bringing God of War to PC allowed them to not only take advantage and experiment with the increased power of PC, but it also gave them a chance to make it an even more accessible experience for all types of players.

In our God of War PC vs. PS5 Performance Review, we said that “this PC port offers some nice boosts over the PS4 Pro release, it scales well, and although impactful on hardware, it does give you the choice of increasing resolution, quality, frame rates, and even aspect ratio over what PlayStation consoles offer.”

Samsung announces first smartphone chip with AMD ray tracing GPU

Samsung has announced the Exynos 2200, its new in-house mobile processor for smartphones. It’s the first mobile system-on-a-chip to include a GPU with AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture, enabling features like hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

The collaboration with AMD has been long in the making. The two companies first announced a licensing deal in 2019, then AMD confirmed last year that Samsung’s “next flagship mobile SoC” would use RDNA 2. Samsung recently teased an announcement event for the Exynos 2200 that was supposed to take place on January 11th, but it was mysteriously delayed.

The Exynos 2200 is manufactured on Samsung’s 4nm EUV process. Samsung is branding this GPU as “Xclipse,” and AMD’s SVP of Radeon GPU tech David Wang says in a statement that it’s “the first result of multiple planned generations of AMD RDNA graphics in Exynos SoCs.”

On the CPU side, the Exynoss 2200 uses Armv9 cores: one high-powered Cortex-X2 “flagship core,” three Cortex-A710 cores for balanced performance, and four more efficient Cortex-A510 cores. There’s also an upgraded NPU that Samsung says offers twice the performance of its predecessor, and the ISP architecture is designed to support camera sensors of up to 200 megapixels, one of which Samsung announced last year.

Samsung’s highest end Exynos chips usually make their way into the company’s flagship Galaxy S phone series, although models sold in the US and certain other markets use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoCs. Other phone makers like Vivo occasionally use Exynos chips in their own devices, but we’ll likely have to wait until the presumptive Galaxy S22 is in our hands to find out if AMD’s technology translates into a meaningful leap forward in mobile GPU performance.

Samsung Introduces Game Changing Exynos 2200 Processor With Xclipse GPU Powered By AMD RDNA 2 Architecture – Samsung Global Newsroom

The new premium mobile processor comes with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and state of the art Arm-based processing technology

Samsung Electronics, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today announced its new premium mobile processor, the Exynos 2200. The Exynos 2200 is a freshly designed mobile processor with a powerful AMD RDNA 2 architecture based Samsung Xclipse graphics processing unit (GPU). With the most cutting-edge Arm®-based CPU cores available in the market today and an upgraded neural processing unit (NPU), the Exynos 2200 will enable the ultimate mobile phone gaming experience, as well as enhancing the overall experience in social media apps and photography.

“Built on the most advanced 4-nanometer (nm) EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) process, and combined with cutting-edge mobile, GPU and NPU technology, Samsung has crafted the Exynos 2200 to provide the finest experience for smartphone users. With the Xclipse, our new mobile GPU built with RDNA 2 graphics technology from the industry leader AMD, the Exynos 2200 will redefine mobile gaming experience, aided by enhanced graphics and AI performance,” said Yongin Park, President of System LSI Business at Samsung Electronics. “As well as bringing the best mobile experience to the users, Samsung will continue its efforts to lead the journey in logic chip innovation.”

The Industry’s First Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing on Mobile for the Ultimate Gaming Experience

The Xclipse GPU is a one-of-a-kind hybrid graphic processor that is positioned between the console and the mobile graphic processor. Xclipse is the combination of ‘X’ that represents Exynos, and the word ‘eclipse’. Like an eclipse, the Xclipse GPU will bring an end to the old era of mobile gaming and mark the start of an exciting new chapter.

With the high-performance AMD RDNA 2 architecture as its backbone, the Xclipse inherits advanced graphic features such as hardware accelerated ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS) that were previously only available on PCs, laptops and consoles.

Ray tracing is a revolutionary technology that closely simulates how light physically behaves in the real world. By calculating the movement and the color characteristic of light rays as they bounce off the surface, ray tracing produces realistic lighting effects for graphically rendered scenes. To offer the most immersive graphics and user experiences even on mobile, Samsung has collaborated with AMD to realize the industry’s first ever hardware-accelerated ray tracing on mobile GPU.

Variable rate shading is a technique that optimizes GPU workload by allowing developers to apply lower shading rate in areas where overall quality will not be affected. This gives GPU more room to work on areas that matter most to the gamers and improve frame-rate for smoother gameplay.

In addition, the Xclipse GPU comes with various technologies such as advanced multi-IP governor (AMIGO) that enhance overall performance and efficiency.

“AMD RDNA 2 graphics architecture extends power-efficient, advanced graphics solutions to PCs, laptops, consoles, automobiles and now to mobile phones. Samsung’s Xclipse GPU is the first result of multiple planned generations of AMD RDNA graphics in Exynos SoCs,” said David Wang, Senior Vice President of Radeon Technologies Group at AMD. “We can’t wait for mobile phone customers to experience the great gaming experiences based on our technology collaboration.”

Enhanced 5G Connectivity and Ironclad Security Features

The Exynos 2200 is one of the first in the market to integrate Arm’s latest Armv9 CPU cores which offer a substantial improvement over Armv8 in terms of security and performance, the two areas that are becoming critically important in today’s mobile communications devices.

The octa-core CPU of Exynos 2200 is designed in a tri-cluster structure made up of a single powerful Arm Cortex®-X2 flagship-core, three performance and efficiency balanced Cortex-A710 big-cores and four power-efficient Cortex-A510 little-cores.

“The digital experiences of tomorrow require new levels of performance, security and efficiency,” said Rene Haas, President of IP Products Group (IPG) at Arm. “As one of the first processors to incorporate the new Armv9 CPU cores, Samsung’s Exynos 2200 takes advantage of Arm’s Total Compute strategy and key security features, like Memory Tagging Extension (MTE), to deliver the purpose-built compute and specialized processing needed to power future mobile experiences.”

The Exynos 2200 offers more powerful on-device artificial intelligence (AI) with an upgraded NPU. The NPU’s performance has doubled compared to its predecessor, allowing more calculations in parallel and enhancing the AI performance. The NPU now offers much higher precision with FP16 (16bit floating point) support in addition to power efficient INT8 (8bit integer) and INT16.

Also, the Exynos 2200 integrates a fast 3GPP Release 16 5G modem supporting both sub-6GHz and mmWave (millimeter Wave) spectrum bands. With E-UTRAN New Radio – Dual Connectivity (EN-DC), which utilizes both 4G LTE and 5G NR signals, the modem can boost the speed up to 10Gbps.

For safekeeping, the Exynos 2200 comes with Integrated Secure Element (iSE) to store private cryptographic keys as well as to play a role as RoT (Root of Trust). Also, an inline encryption HW for UFS and DRAM has been reinforced to have user data encryption safely shared only within the secure domain.

Providing Enhanced Visual Experience and Professional-Level Quality Images

The Exynos 2200’s image signal processor (ISP) architecture has been redesigned to support the latest image sensors for ultra-high resolution of up to 200 megapixel (MP). At 30 frames-per-second (fps), the ISP supports up to 108 MP in single camera mode, and 64+36 MP in dual camera mode. It can also connect up to seven individual image sensors and drive four concurrently for advanced multi-camera setups. For video recording, the ISP supports up to 4K HDR (or 8K) resolution.

Together with the NPU, the ISP utilizes an advanced content-aware AI camera for more refined and realistic results. When taking a photograph, the machine learning based AI camera recognizes multiple objects, the environment and faces within the scene. It then applies optimal settings for color, white balance, exposure, dynamic range and more to produce professional-level quality images.

With 8K resolution support, the Exynos 2200’s advanced multi-format codec (MFC) makes videos truly come to life. It decodes videos up to 4K at 240fps or 8K at 60fps and encodes up to 4K at 120fps or 8K at 30fps. In addition, the MFC integrates power efficient AV1 decoder enabling longer playback time. The advanced display solution features HDR10+ adding more dynamic range and depth to the picture and offers refresh rates of up to 144Hz for a more responsive and smoother transitioning experience when scrolling or playing games.

The Exynos 2200 is currently in mass production.

Among Us Shares Its Roadmap For 2022

Image: Innersloth

A 2022 road map for the smash hit multiplayer game Among Us has been released by developer Innersloth. Apart from ‘Map 5’ – which is still on the way, the team’s main focus “at the moment” is a friend list and quality of life improvements.

“I know I know, you’ve been asking for a Friend’s List for ages!! It’s happening!! Finally you’ll be able to keep in contact with any Crewmates you get along with … or keep tabs on your greatest enemies, I guess? We know a ton of you have found some lifelong friendships from this game and that’s really cool – we want to allow you to keep in touch and continue playing games together!

“As for quality of life updates, many of you have found some of the account creation, Cosmicube redemption, chat choice, and other aspects of the game flow a bit confusing. Understandable! You’re basically experiencing the building of Among Us and our adjustment to its popularity with us haha. That being said, confusing you isn’t the goal, so making improvements to the UX is also coming up next. Thanks for being patient with us!”

In the near future, players can also expect “more roles”, “more cubes”, Hide ‘n Seek and more collaborations. Here’s the visual:

One other additional thing “coming soon” to Among Us is Ghostface cosmetics (inspired by the new Scream movie). A manga and Nendoroids were also recently revealed.
