NVIDIA & AMD GPU Prices Expected To Fall Further By End of August, Green Team To Issue Aggressive Cuts To Clear Inventory

According to a report by the Chinese tech outlet, ZOL, who are quoting their sources within the supply chain, it looks like AMD & NVIDIA GPUs may see further price cuts by the end of August.

NVIDIA & AMD GPUs To Get Even More Cheaper To Buy Later This Year, Green Team Readies Aggressive Price Cut Strategy

It’s been just a few months and we have seen the GPU market crash in a spectacular fashion. Several factors have led to this such as the crypto crash, a declining PC market, and overall poor demand due to the anticipation of the next-gen GPUs.

According to the news from the supply chain, at the end of August, NV and AMD will take more aggressive actions to reduce the price of graphics cards, among which NV’s price reduction is larger than that of AMD.

via MyDrivers (Machine Translated)

Currently, most AMD & NVIDIA graphics cards sit well below the MSRPs that were hard to obtain for almost two years, and now the same GPU makers are having a hard time selling them. This has taken a toll on both AMD and NVIDIA as witnessed within their Q2 financials where the gaming dGPU segment isn’t doing really well & the overall shipments have taken a major blow. Now, AMD & NVIDIA are deciding to further cut down the prices of their consumer GPUs significantly, with the green team reportedly taking some aggressive steps to clear away its inventory. It is reported that a new series of price cuts may hit the retail segment by the end of August so we can expect graphics cards to get cheaper.

Currently, NVIDIA’s high-end graphics cards such as the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti are available for up to -47.5% lower than MSRP prices. If this report is anywhere close to the truth, then we can see over a -50% drop in prices versus the MSRP. Furthermore, NVIDIA is said to have resumed the production of its 12 GB RTX 3080 graphics card to tackle the excess inventory of GA102 GPUs, a chip used for a total of 5 different graphics cards.

So it looks like those in search of a new NVIDIA & AMD graphics card can expect even lower prices in the coming months but how this affects the launch and pricing of the next-generation GeForce 40 series GPUs remains to be seen.

Microsoft Dev Box now ready for developers to try cloud-powered workstations

Microsoft is now allowing developers to access a preview version of its Microsoft Dev Box cloud-powered workstations. The software giant announced Microsoft Dev Box earlier this year, and it’s effectively an easy way for developer to spin up powerful cloud PCs for testing applications. Dev Box includes apps and services designed specifically for developers to quickly access preconfigured workstations.

Windows 365 helps manage Microsoft Dev Box, and developers can now preview quickly accessing these Azure Virtual Desktop machines anywhere from a modern browser. Microsoft Dev Box machines will support any integrated development environment (IDE), software development kit (SDK), or tools that run on top of Windows.

Developers will be able to preview a Microsoft Dev Box configured with eight virtual CPUs and 32GB of RAM. Businesses can try out the first 15 hours of free CPU and memory usage per month, alongside the first 365 hours of a 512GB storage SKU. Final pricing will mean developers and businesses only pay for what they use on a consumption-based model. Microsoft plans to charge organizations on a per-hour basis for compute and storage.

Microsoft Dev Box will support machines with up to 32 virtual CPUs and 128GB of RAM. Developers will be able to deploy dev boxes in their local Azure region and each machine is equipped with gigabit connection speeds. Microsoft has also created a portal for developers to organize dev boxes, which makes it ideal for managing legacy apps or older versions of apps for certain customers.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered modder gets banned over mod that replaces LGBT flags

A modder for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered got attention for his mod that replaces LGBT flags in the game with American Flags.

Not long after the “Non-Newtonian New York” mod was published, it started getting noticed and soon after got pulled from Nexus Mods.

The maker of the Spider-Man Remastered mod was also banned from Nexus Mods, with a rep from the mod portal confirming the user and mod have been removed and banned as they are “no longer welcome on Nexus.”

As with anything of this nature, once the mod was published and users had it – it has since been rehosted numerous times just not on a massive modding community like Nexus Mods.

User responses to the mod itself and its prompt removal varied from “based” to some being upset the mod existed in the first place – and naturally some were upset the mod was pulled as well.

Regardless, the entire debacle once again brings up the debate over not only an owner’s right to a product they own, let alone free speech. Does such a mod that swaps one flag for another fall under protected speech?

Some will likely say that Nexus Mods is a pivate entity and thus can do whatever they want with the content and users on their website. This same logic can be applied to game publishers and developers – who can now legally revoke your access to a digital game you legally own, for a variety of reasons.

Spider-Man Remastered was just released PC (via Steam and Epic Game Store) and PS5 – expect our thorough review shortly.

Mario Strikers: Battle League Version 1.1.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Image: Nintendo

Mario Strikers: Battle League has just received a new update. It bumps Next Level Games latest release up to Version 1.1.1.

Compared to the previous update (Version 1.1.0), which added Daisy, Shy Guy, a new stadium and more, this latest patch appears to be quite small. Here’s the full rundown, according to Nintendo’s official patch notes. It addresses an issue tied to a goal keeper glitch.

Ver. 1.1.1 (Released August 15, 2022)

Issues Fixed

Fixed an issue where the goal keeper would sometimes fail to react to a free lob pass from certain positions, which would result in a goal being scored.

If you’ve not tried out Mario Strikers on the Switch yet, it’s well worth a look – we praised it as “simply the best sports game on Switch”. Awarding it an excellent nine out of ten stars.

Unified Pixel Launcher search missing on Android 13

After installing Android 13’s stable release today, beta users might notice that the new unified Pixel Launcher search experience has disappeared.

One of Android 13’s best features on Pixel phones is that it unifies web and device search. The search bar at the bottom of your homescreen is now the same as the field that appears at the top of the app grid.

After updating to the stable release of Android 13 from Beta 4.1, all our devices have lost unified search. This includes phones where we manually sideloaded the update and those that received the small on-device OTA from Beta 4.1 to stable. We’re seeing this issue on several Pixel 4a, 6, 6 Pro, and 6a units.

One telltale sign of this regression is how the search fields are no longer identical, with the app drawer’s bar losing the ‘G’ logo, microphone, and Google Lens icon. The actual experience from the homescreen returns to the years-old one with no Material You stylings.

Google told us this evening that it’s aware of the issue and that it will be resolved in an “upcoming release.” Hopefully, this can be fixed via a server-side fix as the issue appears to have regressed without any end user action or app update.

Android 13 Beta users had unified search throughout the preview and briefly after updating to the stable release. The new UI automatically disappears after some time or following a device reboot.

Meanwhile, Google has a fix for how Android 13 Beta users cannot sideload the OTA due to the image being older than the Beta 4.1 patch. The on-device (Check for OTA) update is widely rolling out this afternoon.

Kimberly and Juri’s pre-battle introductions and special facial animations revealed for Street Fighter 6

Kimberly and Juri were first revealed to be taking part in Street Fighter 6 just over a week ago, and now there’s a bit more new footage to see the characters in motion.

Capcom has now released a new video showcasing Juri and Kimberly’s pre-battle introductions and special facial animations during the loading screen for SF6.

After being selected, the characters are shown walking out into the new stage from the last trailer where get more of a show of the characters’ personalities.

Juri unsurprisingly appears to mock and taunt her opponent to their face while Kimberly’s energetic positivity comes through her waving, jumping around and doing back flips.

Like the previously revealed world warriors, the brand new and returning ladies also show off their best pouty and wild faces in the Soul Calibur-esque loading screen feature.

These can be performed by simply pressing a directional input while on that screen, so each SF6 character will probably come packing at least 4 different faces to make.

You can check out the new Street Fighter 6 footage below, and if you haven’t already, take a look at our previous breakdown of how Kimberly’s moves compare to that of Guy and Zeku from past games here.

Windows 10 and Chrome are about to make switching default browsers even less painful

Microsoft lost quite a bit of goodwill by forcing the Microsoft Edge browser on uninterested users — but maybe those days are nearing an end? For a possible preview of the future, check this GIF from Leopeva64, who has a future version of Google’s Chrome web browser on their machine, alongside the 2H22 update to Windows 10.

With Windows 10 22H2 and Chrome Dev, you can apparently now switch your default browser with one click, from inside the browser itself.
GIF by Leopeva64

As of this March, switching your default browser in Windows 11 had already been improved to take just a few clicks in a settings menu, but you can see how the older Windows 10 is even cleaner than that. And with the Chrome and Windows 10 22H2 updates, you can seemingly just hit the pop-up in the browser itself (in this case, Chrome Dev version 106.0.5231.2) to set it right away. That would sure be nice to have in Windows 11 as well.

If you add the fact that rival browsers like Firefox and Opera already support the same kind of one-click, in-browser default app switching, we could be entering a new golden age where browsers can actually compete on their merits instead of begging or pushing you around. Just click to switch your browser, as often as you like, till you’ve settled on the one you want.

I wouldn’t count on it, necessarily, as Microsoft isn’t the only browser manufacturer that’s pushy with prompts. And it’s not clear whether this one-touch feature will work at all in Windows 11. My colleague Tom just tried it with the 22H2 update (you’ve been able to install the release preview since June) and it just pushed him into the settings menu while doing nothing at all. It didn’t work for me on Windows 11 21H2 either.

Chrome Dev is typically nine to 12 weeks ahead of the stable version of Chrome, according to Google’s FAQ. Windows 11 22H2 is coming this September, according to Tom’s sources. Windows 10 22H2 should also be out this fall.

Correction, 6:34PM ET: It’s Windows 10 that Leopeva64 is demonstrating, not Windows 11 like we originally wrote. We regret the error.

Update, 7:05PM ET: Added that it does not currently work for us in Windows 11, even with the 22H2 update.

Google’s Pixel 6 phones can’t revert from Android 13 back to Android 12

Android 13 is now rolling out to Google’s Pixel phones, but if you want to flash the update onto your Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, or Pixel 6A, with the company’s custom Tensor chip, you won’t be able to flash back to Android 12 because of a bootloader update, according to a notice on Google’s developer website.

“Warning: The Android 13 update for Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and the Pixel 6a contains a bootloader update that increments the anti-roll back version,” the notice reads. “After flashing an Android 13 build on these devices you will not be able to flash older Android 12 builds.”

Additionally, if you’ve been in the Android 13 beta test group and you’d like to get out of the cycle of accelerated updates without erasing your device — usually a necessary step for exiting the queue — then this is the time to do it. Once your phone has updated to the most recent release version of Android, simply visit Google’s beta site and unenroll. On the other hand, if you stay in the beta group, then you’ll get early access to test builds of future Feature Drops for Android 13.

Android 13 comes with some nice new features like improved customization tools and a new permission option to reduce notifications. Right now, the release is just rolling out for Pixels, but it’s expected to hit devices from other vendors like Samsung and OnePlus later this year.
