Image: Nintendo, PlatinumGames

After an incredibly long wait, this month Switch owners will finally get their hands on PlatinumGames’ new title, Bayonetta 3.

Ahead of the game’s launch on October 28th, Nintendo has shared a news post on its website introducing players to the main cast of characters in the game. There’s the main Umbra Witch Bayonetta, her best friend and rival Jeanne, the mysterious witch in training Viola and the bright and toothy Cheshire.

PlatinumGames has also started up a Bayonetta 3 developer blog. In the first one, director Yusuke Miyata broke down the Nintendo Direct “Ways of the Witch Trailer”. Take a look on Platinum’s website.

The original Bayonetta game also got a physical release in certain parts of the world last week, although it was unexpectedly delayed in the UK and Europe. Bayonetta 1 and 2 also received new updates on the Switch, adding additional language support.

Rumour: This Might Be Our First Look At Sephiroth’s Super Smash Bros. amiibo

Image: Nintendo

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might be done with development, but Nintendo is still releasing amiibo for it on a regular basis.

Now that the Minecraft amiibo Steve & Alex have been released, the focused has switched to the Final Fantasy VII antagonist Sephiroth. Masahiro Sakurai and Nintendo haven’t actually publically shown off the amiibo yet.

With this in mind, we’ve now got a photo (via @zaypiie on Twitter) – potentially giving us a first look. One reply suggests it’s from the Zürich Pop Con & Game Show, which took place on the weekend. There seems to be a crowd of people in the cabinet’s reflection, as well as amiibo below Sephiroth.

Keep in mind, this is just a photo plucked from social media – and we haven’t been given an official look at the Sepiroth amiibo just yet. Masahiro Sakurai’s only announced it. Following Sephiroth will be Pyra, Mythra, Kazuya, and presumably Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

Will you be adding the Sephiroth amiibo to your collection? Tell us down below.

More Galaxy S23 details emerge, and they bring some good news

Renders of Samsung’s next flagship series, the Galaxy S23, were recently leaked, showing us the design for all three models. That wasn’t the first Galaxy S23 leak, though, and it certainly won’t be the last.

We’ve heard rumors about some of the changes Samsung could be bringing to the table with the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra, including upgrades to the battery capacities of the non-Ultra models, and our friends over at GalaxyClub have now revealed some precise information about the same in their latest report.

At least one Galaxy S23 model could get bigger battery than its predecessor

According to GalaxyClub, the Galaxy S23+ will come with a 4,700 mAh battery, 100 mAh larger than the one inside the Galaxy S22+. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, meanwhile, will get a 5,000 mAh battery like previous Galaxy S Ultra smartphones. Unfortunately, the battery capacity of the base Galaxy S23 model is still a mystery, although we can assume that the base model will get a similar bump in battery size as the Galaxy S23+.

GalaxyClub also says that Samsung will be sticking to a 12MP ultra-wide camera for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+, and again, if we were to make an educated guess, the same is likely to be true for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Not that we are surprised – Samsung will likely be putting all its focus on that massive 200MP camera that is expected to be mounted at the back of the S23 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 series is expected to be unveiled in early 2023. According to a recent rumor, Samsung could move the unveiling up by three weeks compared to the Galaxy S22 lineup, although the exact announcement date will probably not be revealed by the company for at least another month or two.

We will also have to wait and see how Samsung is going to price the Galaxy S23 smartphones. Samsung’s 2022 foldable flagships cost the same as their predecessors in major markets, but given the current economic circumstances, it might not be easy for the company to keep the price tags unchanged for its next flagship offerings.

Google’s Pixel Watch just got an early unboxing

TL;DR

  • Somebody managed to get their hands on a Pixel Watch early.
  • The Redditor shows the watch off from every angle without the screen on.

Since Google I/O earlier this year, we’ve gotten our fill of Pixel Watch renders. We’ve even seen leaks of the packaging appearing at retail stores. Now it seems someone has actually gotten their hands on the device itself and is showing it off.

In what has almost become a trend at this point, someone has found another upcoming Google product ahead of Google’s October 6 hardware event. Posted on Reddit this afternoon, the device in question is Google’s highly anticipated Pixel Watch. In addition to describing it, the Redditor also did a photo shoot of the smartwatch.

According to the post, the user says the watch is slimmer than they were expecting. They also state that they were unable to turn on the device.

As for what the unboxing revealed, the watch is wrapped around a piece of cylindrical cardboard, sitting on what appears to be a magnetic charging puck. Inside the cardboard cylinder is what looks to be the wire connected to the charging puck. There’s also space for the instruction book.

Most notably, however, we get two up-close views of the smartwatch. Despite the screen not being on, these images still provide a pretty good look at the thickness of the bezels.

There’s not a whole lot that can be gleaned from just these photos, but we already know a fair amount about what to expect from the device. Based on other information we know, the device will require a companion app for setup, it will have deep Fitbit integration, will launch alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, and the Wi-Fi model could cost $349.99.

Surprise, Fortnite servers will be down for maintenance earlier than expected

Ahead of Fortnite’s latest update, the Epic Games team shut off the game servers. The maintenance suddenly happened tonight, and the team has announced that they will not return until sometime in the early morning. The maintenance is preparing for update 22.10, expected to drop in the early morning of October 4.

The announcement of the servers going down happened shortly after 5 PM ET on the Fortnite Status page.

“Due to an issue, we are entering downtime early,” reads the Fortnite Status tweet, following the announcement of the upcoming update for 22.10. “Update 22.10 will still release tomorrow, October 4. We’ll let you all know when downtime has ended!”

Related: What to do when Fortnite says server offline

The tweet does not offer an official time for the servers’ return. However, the original downtime was scheduled to happen at 8 AM UTC or 4 AM UTC. Instead, it happened 11 hours earlier, surprising everyone. We do not believe this was scheduled maintenance from the Epic Games team, but the decision was likely made to ensure a smooth update time for players early on October 4.

With the maintenance happening earlier than expected for Fortnite’s update 22.10, we expect it to follow the same pattern of being available early in the morning for October 4. However, we do not have any confirmation from the Epic Games team. We imagine if they have to take longer with their maintenance, they will reach out to players through their Fortnite status and will likely reply to the thread they’ve already made for update 22.10.

It’s surprising the servers had to be taken down earlier than expected, but it’s good to see the communication from the Epic Games team. While players won’t be able to access to game throughout Monday night, it’s better than dealing with any problems throughout the week.

The 2023 Audi R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD Is One Hell of a Goodbye

Photo: Audi

Audi’s R8 has been an incredibly long-serving and successful mid-engine supercar for sensible people who own dental practices or accounting firms. It’s somehow as face-meltingly fast as its twin, the Lamborghini Huracan, but it’s simultaneously more buttoned-down and less intimidating. It’s also currently going the way of the thylacine, and that’s sad. But before Audi puts its mid-engine naturally aspirated supercar out to pasture, the company is giving it one last hurrah.

Photo: Audi

The 2023 Audi R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD will be limited to just 333 units worldwide, and as swan songs go, it’s pretty good. The yowling 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine produces a very healthy 612 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque, directed through a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to the rear wheels exclusively.

It also gets a new driving mode called “Torque Rear,” which lets drivers select their level of stability control intervention. It’s kind of like the big dash knob on a Mercedes-AMG GT R, only different. The important thing is that it will allow the brave or foolhardy to dial back their traction control without necessarily turning it all the way off and subsequently yeeting themselves off a cliff and into the sea or something.

Photo: Audi

Other notable changes include a 44-lb weight reduction compared to the non-GT RWD Coupe and a black intake manifold, so nerds 15 years from now will know that you were once very cool, moderately wealthy and possessed of a fine relationship with your local Audi dealer. The GT also comes with the carbon aerokit as standard, which looks pretty boss.

The 2023 Audi R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD will retail for 225,000 euros (currently around $220,500, but there are fees and taxes and blah blah, so expect a different price here), and it should start reaching customers sometime next year.

RUMOR: Nintendo changes policy, no longer allows games with uncensored bare breasts

Ever since the launch of the Switch, Nintendo took a stance on censorship with games that was considerably different from their competition. While Microsoft and Sony required games with nudity, bare breasts specifically, to censor that imagery, Nintendo allowed for that same content to be uncensored. Now it seems Nintendo may have nixed that approach.

Gamuzumi, the developer behind Hot Tentacles Shooter, claims that they’re game was shot down for release on Switch due to this new policy. When they submitted the game for release, Nintendo said it wouldn’t be allowed due to uncensored bare breasts. The same goes for Elves Christmas Hentai Puzzle, another game with nudity that Gamuzumi was planning to bring to Switch.

According to Gamuzumi, Nintendo is making this move because they believe “obscene content could damage the brand,” and it also infringes on their policies. Nintendo has given no reason as to why this change was made recently, nor have they shared a public statement on the decision.

This is just one developer so far, but we’re going to try and get comment on this matter to verify the news.

Phasmophobia ‘Sex Pest’ Kicked From Official Discord Server

Image: Kinetic Games

An admin on the official Discord servers for Kinetic Games’ extremely popular indie horror game Phasmophobia was recently removed after a Twitter user issued a public condemnation of the studio for not keeping its community safe from sexual harassment and racism.

Last week, Twitter user @CrownedCollider posted a thread in which they alleged problematic behavior by one of Phasmophobia’s Discord admins, “Charcoal Salamander.” The accusations, backed with Discord screenshot receipts, concern inappropriately shared nudes and outright racist behavior. While the developer’s lead artist, CJ, initially responded skeptically in a private DM and seemed reluctant to act, two days later they issued an apology tweet stating that Charcoal Salamander had been removed from the server. Yesterday, Kinetic Games tweeted its own statement detailing issues with the admin in question, which go back to the beginning of the year.

Kotaku has reached out to Kinetic Games for comment.

According to Kinetic Games’ statement, Charcoal Salamander had been accused of sexual harassment on January 25 of this year, specifically sharing nude images and broaching several “on-the-line” topics. At the time, Kinetic Games was content with Charcoal Salamander’s response, believing that the images had been shared publicly elsewhere on Discord.

@CrownedCoIIider’s initial call-out tweet last week was met with dismissal by Kinetic Games lead artist CJ via Twitter DMs. In shared screenshots of the conversation, CJ disagreed with the nature of sharing nude images, dismissed it as essentially boys being boys, and claimed that this alone wasn’t a punishable offense.

A day later, @CrownedCoIIider shared videos of a private conversation with Charcoal Salamander, in which the former Discord admin can be seen making racist comments. Following this, CJ issued their apology, suggesting that their dismissal of the inappropriateness of what is arguably revenge porn was taken out of context.

Per their statements, the artist CJ pledged to “not let a situation like this happen again,” and Kinetic Games said it “will do better.”

Pixel Watch band price revealed in early hands-on

Google’s Pixel Watch is set to cost $349 as we’ve reported, but what about its bands? According to a new early hands-on, the Pixel Watch “Active” band will cost around $50.

The folks over at Droid-Life obtained two “Active” bands for the Google Pixel Watch ahead of launch from an unnamed “mega-retailer” who briefly had the product available for sale recently.

While there’s obviously not a ton we can gather from looking at bands without their accompanying smartwatch, there are some interesting details here.

For one, the price of these Pixel Watch bands apparently landed at $49 a piece. The “Active” band is expected to be Google’s default band choice for the Pixel Watch, which means $49 is likely the lowest price we’ll see for an official band. That’s certainly a hefty cost, as Fitbit charges $29 for its “Infinity” bands on Sense and Versa smartwatches. But it’s in line with Apple’s cost, with a “Sport” band for the Apple Watch also running $49.

According to this early hands-on, the bands are in small and large sizes, with the small size going from 130mm to 175mm adjustments, and the larger at 165mm to 210mm.

We also get a good look at Google’s proprietary connector in this leak as well as a look at the manual, which explains how the band connects to Google’s watch. A “band secure button” helps you remove and lock the band into place, with a sliding move to get the band into the right position.

Droid-Life describes the band as “very premium rubber” and “quite soft” to the touch. In terms of how they connect, it looks virtually identical to Fitbit’s “Infinity” system, which is also similar to recent bands from Apple.

The Pixel Watch goes official on October 6.
